Dr. Dearmas is the only vet I would trust with my boys. He is attentive and communicates with you before and during any procedures. His staff makes you feel welcomed. They answer all your questions and are very knowledgeable. I also like that they give you a quote before proceeding which leaves room for no surprises when it comes to your vet bill. The clinic is extremely clean and they help accommodate your pets to avoid stress. Thank you all as always I had a great visit with you.

I have been going to Paws and Claws for 5 years. I live in Cutler Bay and I drive over 30 minutes to go here even though I have many veterinary offices near me. Everyone in this office is kind and truly loves animals. I have never felt nervous of what they are doing to my cat or dog when I drop them off or if what they are telling me my pet has is accurate. I once came back and they had my kitten covered in a blanket because she was cold and getting nervous. It’s the little things that make us, the owners, trust and feel comfortable. The veterinarian is also VERY experienced and is also a wildlife (not sure if that is the proper term) veterinarian. He is very compassionate and loving towards all the animals. I have had 0 issues here!

Went in for a follow up 3 time. I was not charged on prior visits. Last visit doctor did not see my pets due to hes was to busy he claims but yet charges for the visit because I didnt want to do the procedure to both of my pets. Because the condition was gone. Then I asked the front desk girl to have doc call me never did until I reversed the payment because he didnt see my pets. Then he called irate and was rude disrespectful. I will never recommend or go back to such a pig of an animal.

However, their team was SO accommodating and went the extra mile to make us and our bunny feel more comfortable. It took us a long time to find a vet in our area and we are so glad we brought him here. Thank you!!!

EDIT AFTER RESPONSE: OWNER IS LYING IN THIS RESPONSE! DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE!!!I shared my story below to warn others of my negative experience at this place, and I have no reason to lie to google reviews. the doctor on the other hand wants your money so of course he will claim I am lying... you can decide for yourself after reading my story below. i am SHOCKED at the level of unprofessionalism.I have had my ball python for about a year now and decided it was time for him to get checked up on. I signed up for an appointment online and received a text message full of instructions: click this link, select your appointment time and prepay here. I did exactly that, following the link to a screen with appointment times from 8am to 6pm. I thought it was wonderful that they were open later than my work so that I could make it on time. I booked an appointment for 4:45pm the next afternoon, paid $60 and received a confirmation email after booking. When the day arrived, I showed up to the appointment very excited for my babys first vet appointment. However, the employee at the front desk announced that they were closed, rather rudely. Without apology, she explained that the form that I was sent was just for prepay and not for booking actual appointments. When I tried to speak I was cut off. It seemed instead of kindly informing me and apologizing about the miscommunication, she was on the defense, saying they had tried to call me before I showed up and tell me they would be closed. Regardless, it was too late because I had booked the appointment the night before and received a confirmation email; I had been working all day with no access to my phone so I showed up anyway. She did not listen to my questions or concerns about why there was such a huge miscommunication or why they would send new clients a specific link to sign up for appointments if the clinic/doctor was not actually available for appointments at those times. Just because of how unhelpful and unpleasant that interaction was, I would rate this place 1 star or less.Instead of answering any questions I was pressured into booking another appointment on the spot. After I left I immediately canceled that appointment because of how distasteful the experience was, and in my flustered state I didnt realize i would be out of town that day. I called to get my money back and they refused, as their contract states they can keep the money if you cancel the appointment you rescheduled. I should have never rescheduled but they knew what they were doing.$60 spent and not one helpful or pleasant interaction, let alone an actual visit for my Cinnamon. very displeased and disappointed as this was my first experience at any vet. If you are looking to come to a vet for the first time, this place is NOT it!! read the rest of the 1 star reviews if you need any more proof

Weve taken both our dog and cat here for years and loved it. This past year things changed there. They hiked up prices to unreasonable levels. To take a lethargic cat in for bloodwork to see what was wrong and it was $600. We never even got a call back from vet to explain results. (Cat got better on her own)We took our dog there for a regular, routine yearly exam, annual tag and 3 month supply of flea meds and it too was $600. In the past that same exam would cost us $350. max. We wont be going there again unfortunately.

ThE BEST veterinarian in South Florida! I was lucky to get a late appointment yesterday for my dog that was sick! I was in urgent need of a facility for an ultrasound because another veterinarian wanted to plan a piometra surgery for my dog and I insisted saying that she may be pregnant, that we needed an ultrasound to make such a huge decision. They only had x rays in their facility that didn’t show any puppies, it was too early in time to be able see them. Well, the Paws and Claws Medical Center have their own ultrasound machine and the ultrasound proved she IS pregnant and has NO piometra. She is on antibiotics and probiotics treating the diarrhea and I’m very pleased we drove 60 km to meet this wonderful staff. God bless these professionals that REALLY care about our babies! 🙏🏼❤️

If I could, I would give this place no stars at all. Never ask the front desk lady about any information “she has no idea” and she would say it really loud to you and would not let you talk. It’s so frustrating to go get your pet checked and pay a lot of money for it and having to wait outside for hours, no place to sit... they could not tell me how much time would it take and didn’t let me talk to the vet. He called me on the phone to let me know he was done and basically hang up on me. It’s really hard to find a vet that would take rabbits and it’s really expensive but I would not recommend this place. I honestly think that the only reason they have good reviews is because they give $100, they literally let you know on the receipt.

GO TO COUNTRY CLUB ANIMAL HOSPITAL INSTEAD!!!If you’re thinking of bringing your pet here, just read the 1 star reviews and look at the RESPONSES of Dr. Armas to his unsatisfied customers. Super snarky and unprofessional imo. I think that should tell you enough about the type of person he is and the type of service you can expect from this establishment. My boyfriend brought his dog here and needless to say it was a horrible experience. The staff doesn’t really care about anything other than making money off your pet.Edit: My reply to Paws&ClawsAlthough it was not my dog, I accompanied him and therefore the negative experience was a shared one. Let’s forget the negative experience we had altogether, just based off the way you reply to customers with attitude and condescension is enough for me to rate your business 1 star. I’d rate zero stars if possible. It is unprofessional and tasteless in my opinion. Your side of the story doesn’t matter. Your company gives off the air of entitlement and feigned superiority in how you reply to dissatisfied customers. For that, I will never recommend you and will advise others of that as well. And that’s without taking into account the subpar service not worth the price you charge. I’m not cheap and I’m willing to blow money when it’s worth it. You, unfortunately, are not worth it.

I want to start by saying thank you to Dr. de Armas. He is truly a professional , kind knowledgeable doctor. My dog Muffy had an emergency last Thursday where she couldn’t hold her self up and her eyes where spinning. We rushed her to an emergency hospital. They could not be sure what exactly had happened to my dog but vestibular disease was a possibility (dog vertigo). I had a lot of confusion on what was the best thing to do for my beloved Muffy. I took her out of the hospital and brought her to Dr. de armas who was able to explain to me her condition and diagnose the high probability of what happened once he saw her. He said it was either a stroke, blood clot or brain tumor. He did an ultrasound and discovered she had a mass that had grown double its size from last year. I knew there was our answer and we knew the best thing was to put Muffy to rest. I appreciate this doctor so much because in a difficult time when you don’t have answers you need a knowledgeable and kind person to walk you through making a right decision for your pet. I will recommend this doctor to anyone.

Paws and Claws Medical CenterDr. Ramon de Armas (Owner) and Senior Vet3858 SW 137 Avenue,Miami, FL 33175On late December 2020, one of the white pigeons living in my balcony had an accident where she receive a bad cut under the crop area. Realizing the severity of the wound I took the bird I immediately started searching for a avian veterinary. Most of the ones I found would not see the pigeon due to it being more of a fowl than an exotic bird. Pigeon are often referred to as pests. I called Paws and Claws clinic as an emergency situation and the receptionist inform me that they would see the bird. I drove for quite a distance and finally arrived at the clinic. The pigeon was was placed in an oxygen chamber because of difficulty breathing, while I filled the paper work. I completed my information and handed the paper to the lady attending to me which took them in to doctor Ramon de Armas. A while later I was presented with an estimate of nearly $700 in order to continue attending the bird. That was an unexpected amount and being a low income person I just dint have that amount with me at the time. I had taken all I had available at the time which was $200 and offered to leave a down payment and make a later payment to cover the cost. My main concern was to save the birds life. I was flat out refused the offer and was told the amount needed to be paid in full at time of service. After pleading to the staff to allow me to work on payments and getting no where, I ask to speak to the doctor. Mr. Ramon de Armas came out and informed me he could not attend to the bird if I dint have the money and that they did not accept partial payments. I was hit by lightning since I knew the bird would die, obviously DR. Ramons priority was the money and clearly not saving the animals life. An unfortunate case of a businessman first and doctor later personality. I had no choice than to ask for the bird back, which was taken off the oxygen chamber and immediately started gasping for air again. I was actually told that they would do me a favor and not charge me for the time the bird used the oxygen chamber, WoW! When I got home I tried several other county animal agencies but all they offer was to euthanize the bird. By now the bird was in a heavy breathing state, gasping for air, not eating or drinking and I knew it was too late to save him. I tried again to see if there was anyway I could do something and thought about trying to saw the wound myself but I didnt have the knowledge nor the equipment to do so and in desperation I put him back in the cage. I then pray that the animal would die quickly and with the least of suffering. The bird lasted throughout the rest of that day and part of the night. It was 1:00 AM when I last looked at the clock, I had not been able to sleep due to the desperate, heavy, gasping sound of the bird. I finally just fell to sleep. The next day I found the white I found I found her dead, with her beak clamped tightly to one of the cages bars, as if a desperate attempt to breathe became her last attempt for life. I have been an animal , activist and have been involved in many animal and ecosystem events, have filled thousand of petitions and sent thousand of letters to different governments, corporations and institutions in behalf of animals welfare. This is not the first time where an animal in my possession have died, but this one was a very disturbing situation which I still think about in desperation. All I can think is how can someone has the power to save a creatures life and refuse to do so in behalf of the money. I understand doctors and veterinarians pay heavy utility bills but saving an animal life for the sake of compassion and respect to the profession every once in a while is good for the soul and pleasing to God. I would have paid the required money anyway and would have signed any legal document to assure my commitment to pay. Rest in peace, unfortunate creature

Our guinea pig suddenly developed a painful, golf ball-sized growth in his throat. Another vet told us guinea pigs require the attention of exotic animal vets and referred us to a location on US1, but we found Paws and Claws using Google Maps as a closer option. So glad we did. Dr. de Armas and his staff run an amazingly professional shop, are incredibly friendly/courteous, treat their patients with care and dignity at par with that of family members, and run a shop (front and back - I saw it all) thats so unbelievably clean and organized it can only be described as sterile. Our cavie came out of surgery just fine and with a healthy appetite. I saw a couple of complaints about prices and can only say the following: (1) The shop, equipment, staff, supplies, medications, etc. all cost the business money and it also needs to make a fair profit; (2) If it was you or your child that was in need of medical attention, you would most likely want to receive treatment in this exact environment; (3) There was no pressure or upselling -- the doctor was very generous with his time and explanations, and also with exploring options with clients. For example, he strongly recommended a surgery to remove the abscess after identifying what it was, but after removing it agreed it sending it off to a lab for pathology testing would represent an unnecessary expense; (4) In my experience similar services at any Banfield cost at least as much if not more. If you legitimately care about your critters and understand them to be family, we can vouch for Paws and Claws and strongly recommend you pay them a visit/draw your own conclusions.

Absolutely amazing and above and beyond!I was looking for an exotics veterinarian for my hamster and saw this office had reviews mentioning hamsters. For my last hamster, the veterinarian who saw him basically treated him with the same meds as cats and dogs just at much lower doses.I called to schedule my appointment in a panic and so worried about my little guy. The staff answered the phone promptly this morning and got me scheduled the same day.Upon arrival, the staff were very helpful through explaining the paperwork and process. I was thrilled by the consent about how exotic animals hide their illness as a survival instinct so when we notice illness they require extra care and time to be examined.Dr. Ramon de Armas was very informed about hamsters and asked questions about a variety of topics that I did not think about even possibly being relevant. He even looked at pictures of how the condition had progressed the past couple of months. Due to COVID-19 regulations, I was unable to be in the exam room but still felt the staff did a great job explaining the exam results and treatments.Lastly, I think the prices were more than reasonable, and the service was excellent!

We recently adopted a six year old kitty who is quite overweight and I remembered what a great experience I had as a teen being attended at this office and immediately told my husband we should make the drive to have her seen by this vet. We werent disappointed; the office, the staff, and the vet are knowledgeable, professional, and kind. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Paws and Claws is the best veterinarian! I had an emergency with my parakeet, he all of a sudden started having a seizure so randomly. Then I found online one of the top places to go. When I called they said to bring him in even though they were closing in 30 minutes. The nurses and doctor were so kind and helpful. Gave all the medications needed for that same day. They even called the next morning to see how he was doing. I highly recommend for taking your pets here!!

I received a follow up call everyday on how she was doing.I recommend taking your furry family member to Paws and Claws, you will not regret it.

High Tech Animal Hospital at a very fair price. Friendly and caring staff, I also recommend there boarding services. Most important, the Dr. is patient and takes his time with you and your critter, explaining in full detail the examination, and treatment options. For Example on one of my dogs, an 18 year old who walked in with her head tilted, I was able to see the ear examination, her ear canal, on a TV screen as it was being done, we started the Doctor started with a basic treatment plan, and if that was not a solution we would head move on to the next. This means, he does not take advantage of cost, but rather proceeds with the first possible solution before going into unnecessary testing or cost. LOVE THIS. His boarding excellent! Highly recommend:)

I took my dog once to this vet because we noticed their was something wrong with him kidney and they gave him a bunch of medicine that was not for his condition which we ended up paying a bunch of money for. He ended up passing away and we then took his medical record to another vet to see what happened and they told us that whatever this vet gave him did not help him at all with his problem that he had

Most amazing pet clinic I’ve been to! They had such a friendly and caring staff. The doctor was also was kind and explained everything to full detail and helps you understand. The place itself is very organized and clean. You don’t see very often vets taking full interest in your pet, but at this clinic they do. I’ve had so many animals and in all my years of going to different clinics , this is one I want to stick with. Completely recommend it and I will be taking my other pets and they don’t only deal with cats and dogs but rabbits too. My rabbit had gotten scratched on the eye and they helped me out so much. Thank you so much for the excellent service.

I brought in a snake that was displaying mild neurological issues. A slight head wobble when stressed. The doctor gave me some vitamin supplements to give the animal orally. After a few doses the snake was acting normal. But the day I brought in the snake I also brought in a fecal. The doctor sent it out for testing and the next day called me saying that they had found parasites. The office told me that they would have meds for me by the end of the day. But here I am almost two weeks later with a dead snake and no medication even after daily phone calls. I would not recommend this office.

First appointment was great, vet & team seems skilled; they advised I pay a lump sum ($1454) to have a few of my dogs teeth extracted ASAP. I agreed, and they took him in immediately to begin the procedure and said they’d call me to let me know when done. Didn’t get a call by the latest time they said they would be done by, nor any updates, so I called (5 1/2 hrs later) and they said yeah you can come get him he’s done. How long he’d been done for, I have no idea. Turns out they had to cut into his gums to remove the root, and put in stitches (they didn’t specify where/which tooth) so I would now need to have them removed two weeks later — but they made no attempt to schedule my appointment, and didn’t advise that it would be an extra cost on top of my already large fee. They started 2 IV’s, one of which they covered with a roll of tape (?!) rather than gauze which stuck to all of the hair on his wrist and took 2 days to remove, causing my dog unnecessary pain & infection risk. They have a text number that you can contact, which is very convenient, but in our conversations (where they pushed me to schedule an appointment for an allergy injection that he had literally received from them a week prior) I inquired 2 separate times regarding the scheduling of the suture removal, due Friday, to which I got no response. I also requested for his records to be forwarded to me since I’m moving to California, to which they responded that they would but didn’t do either. I was busy with school & work, and only realized on Saturday that I never got a response about an appointment, so called & they told me I could bring him in immediately. Then, when I got there said that since it’s Saturday they would be unable to sedate him in order to remove the stitches, and it was only then that they advised me it would be an extra fee anyways and since I’ll be moving to California on Monday I should just pay another vet over there to have them removed. So now I have to find & pay another vet a consultation fee, plus the cost of sedation and the cost for removal of the stitches — which was supposed to be included in my lump sum — in the middle of the move. Could just be my luck that I had such a bad experience, but their impartiality to the matter as well as the other things I’ve stated bothered me enough to write this review.EDIT:Changed to 1 star after the argumentative & exaggerated response from a clearly unprofessional vet. I wasnt even told how many teeth were removed, let alone the location of the sutures, & got no information other than what I stated in my review. I always call for appointments prior to showing up, and was told to come in at the time that I did. Had I received a follow-up appointment the first 2 times I requested it, I would have added it to my agenda and been there, but that obviously didnt happen. Perhaps the reason for the reviews complaining of long wait times is that you run your practice as a come in whenever you please basis, & that is why you didnt respond to my messages requesting an appointment. When you quote a person a lump number for a procedure such as teeth removal, its expected that cover the follow-up -- which was mandated in the contract I signed, and not provided in spite of my calling ahead & being at the clinic. At no point was I advised that sedation would be required to remove the sutures, and of course services should be paid for but as stated I paid an already-large sum of nearly $1500 to have a couple of a very small dogs teeth removed, and should have been told of any surprise fees on the day I went to pick him up. The vet didnt even have the decency to come out and advise me of his rational for sending us away, nor do the follow-up exam that was mandated for the procedure -- rather, he sent the vet tech to tell me and my dog to go home without so much as laying eyes on him after having me come all the way to the clinic. As I said, it wasnt so much one big thing as several small things that caused me to give you the review I posted, and youve made me very glad that I did.

This vet is the best vet in all Miami. He not only specializes in cats and dogs but in Rabbits as well. Treating my lops rabbit extremely well and diagnosing his ear infection. Very affordable and friendly environment. I’ve been to a few vets for my rabbit and honestly he’s the best experience I’ve had. I was recommended by a friend that had a eye removal surgery done on her rabbits eye and it was a total success. I recommend this vet to everyone.

Very clean clinic and the vet is very knowledgeable. Unfortunately 3 things stood out in our visit with Joni that prevented us from going back. First being the wait time. We were understanding that there was an emergency the day that we were there with a bearded dragon, yet what could’ve been a 30 minute trip turned into 4 hours of mostly waiting. Second, the vet was very confident and knowledgeable however when speaking with the assistant she had a hard time answering our questions and was nervous when we were giving some pushback on the treatments the doctor was recommending. Lastly, pricing was very high for us. Coming from 2 vets that offered similar treatments; pricing at this vet was quoted as triple the price. He explained there are things he was giving us that they didn’t, however the end result for us was the same. It just felt like there was little thought on his part giving us very pricey options when our dog is 170 pounds. (Almost $400 for 1 injection that lasts 2 weeks)We ended up finding a new vet for our follow up appointment and we felt a lot more comfortable. She did not speak negatively on what was done at this clinic as everything is high quality; however she felt injections on the size dog we have is very unreasonable considering the price difference between injections and oral medication. The office was very good with last minute schedule changes as we had to cancel follow up appointments due to our schedules; yet in the end we decided that going back and going through different trials of treatments for our pups skin condition was too costly at this clinic. We were willing to overlook the other negatives; yet the doctor did not make much of an attempt to accommodate our concerns with treatment pricing. Rather than making us feel comfortable and trying to understand where we were coming from, we felt attacked when we would give our opinion.Vets can be a hit or miss. What works for one person may not work for another. We ended up finding a vet that is what we were looking for and feel comfortable. I would recommend trying this clinic and forming your own opinion. This was just our experience.Kind Regards.

I want to start off by stating the receptionist in the front office and the nurse whom assisted were very sweet, nice, and professional. I can not say the same for the Vet whom saw my little princess. First time being at this establishment I would think the Vet would have the courtesy to come out and at least introduce himself. None of this happened which okay I understand and gave it a pass. The reason for a two star rating was because the website had misinformation about charges and bills. The website says and indicates their COVID-19 worries but NOWHERE does it say their prices will change due to COVID. The Only thing more disrespectful Is sendIng messages thru the nurse back and forth without speaking to me directly. $75 and $650 is a BIG difference. To tell me that they had called the web designer to have their website update and that the price will be higher because of COVID isn’t my fault and honoring the price is what should have been done. Dr. De Armas you are very unprofessional. I have proof and images, which have been uploaded. With your response and pettiness of saying what my dog had which by the way was not communicated to me directly ( again unprofessional) shows what kinda Vet this Man is. Images have been uploaded.

We were giving an estimate, when we picked up our dog, tje amount was 4 times the estimate. The dog apparently had nothing, they took 9 days to report the results from the biopsy. When my parrots vet retired, I had to look for a new one. I found Dr. De Armas on the Association of Avian Vets home page. I wanted to be sure to get an avian vet as there are various avian issues that a regular vet may not pick up on. Of course going to a new vet, I was a little nervous, but those fears disappeared once I arrived. Dr. Armas and his staff kept me up to date with the progress of the appointment and the health of my feathered family member. At the time of this review, we are still in Phase I of the Covid protocol which requires veteranary practices to have curbside drop off. As the owner of a pets taking them to maintain their health, it is natural to want to be with them in the vets office, however, the protocol is to help protect your pet as well as you. The office for me was a drive from my home over 9 miles away, but was worth the drive. Thank you Paws and Claws.

I came in with my 3 year old dog that I adopted 2 weeks ago for a free check up from the county and because she came from the adoption center with an eye issue. We brought her in and the receptionist was super sweet and friendly and was also friendly to our dog so she was awesome. But as soon as we got in the back room, the vet assistant barely asked any questions and didn’t do any check up on our dog. Didn’t check her heart or nails or anything else. He didn’t even touch our dog or say anything to her. Then we went to the back room and the vet didn’t even greet us or tell us his name. He just asked our dogs name and out of no where the vet assistant plopped her up on the table with out warning. The vet started rudely asking where we got her from, etc. Then he proceeded to start checking out her eye, he didn’t even check anything else and I brought her in for this “free check up”. He put a muzzle on her with out telling us anything about what was going on, he was just spraying some liquid in her eye and kept complaining “I can’t work with her like this” we didn’t even know what was going on still or at any point. She tried being aggressive, rightfully so, cause she’s an animal in pain and he patted her on the head multiple times super hard and said “no biting” even though she had a muzzle on.I was hugging my girlfriend because she was obviously uncomfortable seeing our dog in pain. The vet told us that we were acting as if something bad was gonna happen, that we were “tense”. Obviously anyone would be a bit worried when they have no idea what’s going on with their dog in pain. He then went on to say he was gonna sedate her because he couldn’t handle her and we told him that we would have the money a few hours later that a credit card replacement was coming later. He took off his gloves and said “well you can come back when you have the card then” and put our dog down off the table in a second. They didn’t even clean her eye of the liquid he put in it or still didn’t do our FREE CHECK UP. On top of that we were charged $20 for the liquid in her eye which they didn’t let us know about in the first part. This is the worst veterinarian experience I have ever had and it is shocking that this guy is a vet. Very rude to us and an innocent animal. He didn’t care about anything but only had money on his mind, I swore I could see dollar signs in his eyes. I have no clue how this place has 4.8 stars. I will not be coming back here ever again and I advise anyone bringing their dog not to bring them to this place.
