**Look at the 5 Star reviews.. no one writes anything. They are just false accounts helping boost their rating. Update 9/29/21… I called the number left in the response below and left messages every week for a month for the Director of Santee to call me. They NEVER returned my call like they said they would do in the response so don’t believe they care or will change how they care for your loved one.Never let an immobile loved one stay at this place! I can’t even begin to write about the horrible treatment my father received at Santee in Mesa. If you can’t advocate for yourself (which he couldn’t because of dementia) you are left completely on your own. In the 19 days that he was there (14 which were mandatory quarantine- no visitors allowed)1.He fell and they had no idea how long he had laid on the floor because no one had cared to check on him.2. After the fall, They refused to take X-rays to see if he had re-injured his leg.3. He lost 20 pounds because they wouldn’t feed him or place the food near his bed.4. We had 2 updates of his progress in 14 days. They wouldn’t even call our insurance case manager back. She left over a dozen messages.5. He contracted pneumonia while at Santee. The kicker is that is they didn’t diagnose it. They didn’t think he was even sick. The only reason he got help was that He was transported by Santee to his surgeon’s office for his post-surgery visit. The surgeon’s office called 911 and sent him straight to the hospital where he spent over a week trying to get well from the horrible care he got at Santee.6. The Santee case manager, PT, personnel and Administration were extremely rude to our family. If they treated us (able bodied people) horribly, I can’t imagine how bad they treated an elderly dementia patient with a broken leg who could advocate for himself.7. Santee made it very clear that my father had to be moved by day 21 (when Medicare stops paying in full) whether he could walk or not. Before his 14 day quarantine was over, before we were ever allowed to see my father and how bad he was being treated, they said by day 21 he needed moved. It didn’t matter that we had supplement insurance that would have paid Santee in full… they didn’t want to do the paperwork. They wanted the money.. just didn’t do any of the care my father needed. Day 19 was when he went to the hospital.8.It is very upsetting knowing that I sent my Father to such a horrible place to fend for himself.I am so grateful for current rehabilitation center. They have been so kind and caring! My dad is still in his 14 day quarantine but we get a FaceTime at least once a day and sometimes more. We get to visit with him through a window. He is happy and well taken care of. The difference between the 2 facilities is night and day. We had more information about my dad, his health and well being, and his care plan in the first 24 hours at Mission Palms than we had the whole 19 days at Santee. This is the first negative review I have ever done. I would hate to let someone else’s loved one be treated so horribly because I didn’t write of our ordeal. Of course there was more but there isn’t enough room to write everything!

The entire staff (nurses, aides, administrators, receptionists, kitchen staff, etc) showed concern for my well being. Everyone was extremely caring and kind. Since I was not able to be home, Sante of Mesa provided a safe and comfortable place to be through my long rehabilitation. I would not hesitate to recommend Sante of Mesa to anyone requiring extended rehab. Youre the best.Thom Long

I am giving 3 stars so this will be read, experience is 1 to 2 stars. The health care system is broken and this is perhaps just another example of how. We have not had experiences with other skilled nursing centers and do not know if this is the norm. 95 year old mother recovering from fractured hip. Upon admission, mom was assessed. She is close to deaf, very hard of hearing. She was fully verbally assessed without her hearing aids in, assessment was incorrect and WAY off base. Had to argue with the person who did the assessment and most everybody from top to bottom throughout the whole stay (3 plus weeks). Everybody takes notes but nobody reads them no matter how pertinent. If we were not there 2 times a day to correct problems, misdiagnosis, medications, and general care, the outcome would have in all probability been dire. I cannot list the problems without writing a novel. Jaw dropping from start to end. To make it short (to late), if you are capable of fending for yourself, Sante would in all probability be fine. But if you have any level of dementia or inability to communicate, you are in trouble and need a patient advocate visiting, following charts, medications etc minimally twice daily. I would not go back or recommend Sante of Mesa. Notably, a few of the staff were excellent, however the majority were not. Our communications with admin staff were wrought with untruths, unfulfilled promises (no return calls with info), incorrect information to the point of unbelievable. Very stressful sad experience. If this review is questioned, I would be glad to list the events of disbelief that we encountered in a future post...Response to Sante: I am not going to post names however, thorough full discussions and/or written complaints with the administrator (serious discharge problems), the case manager, the discharge manager, and the onsite customer / guest care agent were made. If you cannot find any documented information at the facility, i will give you a call, however see no point... All involved clearly know what problems were.

My Mother is currently at this rehab center and from day 1 she has had a very bad experience which is a disappointment because its a beautiful facility. The good employees are limited. My Mother is immobile and cannot get out of bed by herself. The staff left her food on the opposite side of the room and she couldnt get anyone to move her food closer so she could eat it for a long time. They have been late on providing meds by hours. Another day she was waiting 45 minutes to have someone help her to use the restroom. These are just a few of the issues so far in 2 days. If she was mobile it would probably be a different experience. But for someone like her, the staff seems to leave without proper thought. Shes communicated these issues with the manager, Ingrid so my hope is that the care improves.

We had an excellent experience with Sante. We had another provider for 24 hours. We could tell immediately that a change was needed. We called Sante at 5 PM. Jenn came that evening and stayed till 10 PM. Jenn was absolutely wonderful. She really set us at ease. She answered all our questions. Sammy came the next day. She was such a wonderful nurse. Sammy came nearly every day until the end. We cold not have asked for a better nurse. Lance came a few times. His timing and serves were perfect. Ginka really helped as a social worker. I am sure she will be useful in the months to come. Thank you Sante for being so good in our time of need.

If i could give zero stars i would. If you care about your loved ones, dont let them go to Santé. They didnt give my parents their correct meds for 5 days. My dad lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks in their care. You can not get ahold of anyone and you cant even see them from the window. Thats apparently not allowed. So you leave them there to get better and they are put in a room and left to rot. They do not answer the nurse button when pushed. I could go on and on with specific AWFUL things that happened there. Long story short PLEASE DONT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES IN THEIR CARE!

Horrible experience for my grandmother who is patient. She had been there 7 days , 5 of which she was not given quite a few of her essential daily medications as a diabetic and 95 year old with heart condition. The error was found by a wonderful nurse and corrected however after leaving many messages have yet to hear back from the Administrator regarding this error which essentially could have been life threatening. Customer service is lacking within the facility select few aids, CNAs and nurses really seem to care and enjoy their jobs others are clearly there to just receive a paycheck. Based on experience thus far would not recommend.

Apparently staffs sleep on the job, take your loved ones to a place they will be cared for 24/7. A lot of agency staff because they can’t keep their own staff in the building, nurses don’t do their job, very lazy nurses that rather giggle around and spread rumors than ones that actually care for the residents. Alot of drama as well.

I do not recommend this place to anyone. They would only give my mom only 10 minutes of physical therapy and they dropped her did not send her to the hospital only did x-rays . When I asked why they didn’t send her to the hospital they said because the X-Rays showed nothing was broken. What if she had internal bleeding or anything else. Her ribs were bruised. Three days after her fall my mom passed away.I don’t feel they took good care of my mother. The nurses are no good there is plenty of more wrongs they did

ZERO stars!!! Not impressed with their communication or their skilled nursing skills. My first impression was a very good one, but once my mother was in there and over time, my impression declined. There were a few good nurses that she saw more than once, but not very often did she get a nurse twice. Never once in three weeks did a Dr. call me to discuss her health. Never once did a therapist call to discuss her health, and never once did they even call to check on her once she ended up in the hospital with a staph infection. In fact, Im still awaiting a phone call from her care manager and the Director of the facility to discuss the details that landed my mother in ICU. I was the one who found her disoriented and in distress and demanded an ambulance. They wanted to observe her, per the doctors orders (via text). Nurse did not believe anything was wrong. I truly believe had I not come and visited her she would not be with us. If I were to judge all skilled nursing facilities based on my experience with Sante of Mesa, I would have to believe they are all a farce and money making machine.

I started back in 2015 as a server and over time I have been given so many wonderful opportunities to grow within the company which is something I will be eternally thankful for. Oh it looks great from the outside but you better be able to take care of yourself. My poor mother is there now, Ive been looking for another place because she has been neglected, we both got food poisoning there. The only shower in 10 days since she was admitted was because she soiled her sheets vomiting, they dont come when you ask. She has a broken pelvis, cant move on her own, shes helpless. Ive called asked when was the last time she got a pain med. Well unless she asks we dont ask her and its been 2 days ago that she asked. Not true. They threw her soiled clothes after she messed her pants in her hamper with her other clothes that I take home to wash, without rinsing them out. Leave her sitting in her wheelchair so she wont get a bedsore far to long. She misses meals, you are on your own, she is dehydrated and malnourished, Very little personal care. If you are seriously injured, dont go there or hire a private duty nurse to come in and help you. Its more independent, you eat whenever you want to, other than that its just nice looking.

I cant take away stars for the therapist. .All of them were great. ..very caring and worked hard on the patient. Our other experience was not so good. Understaffed, untrained. They might as well close down on weekends, there is no therapy and very little staff. This could be a good place if the patient just needed therapy., but if medical attention is needed. ..stay away. Medical needs were never addressed. A family member needs to be there at all times if meals, medication and personal care is needed. At a cost of $950 per day, one would think one would get decent care.

The restaurant is by far the best we have experienced in any hospital environment EVER! These folks go way above the average to provide the residents with a very good menu selection, lots of variety, attention to presentation and excellent quality of products used. HORRIBLE. My sweet grandmother will never walk again, due to their incompetence and laziness, after she was left unattended and fell again on her fractured hip. This was a week or so in to care, but since the staff was constantly confused at what to do, and though written instructions were clearly hanging on the wall, shell never walk again. We tried to stay there as much as possible to advocate and ensure care was properly administered, literally we were there almost 24/7, but THAT didnt even help since the second we werent there, she was mistreated. Even watching the aggressive and incompassionate way they handled and cared for her and literally begging them to change her surgery dressing or reminding them of her medication, was heartbreaking and sickening. If I could give this place 0 stars, or preferably have the place shut down, I would.

The aides have never offered to bathe him...I do that when I get there in the afternoon because no one else has done it. No one bothers to give him the daily menu, so I have to try to find one; his meals sit at the nurses station and get cold, before I can finally chase them down. Fortunately he is not a diabetic waiting for a meal! Pity the patient who has no one to do these things for them. The facility is clean and rooms are pleasant and nurses are efficient, but if you are confined to bed, you seem to be ignored.

My wife was fortunate to be able to go to Sante of Mesa after her stroke. After spending 6 days in Banner Baywood we had to choose a rehab facility. We looked at the reviews of several places. Most of the 4-star rehab places got such high reviews only because their employees and administrators gave them 5-star reviews. They got 1 or 2 star reviews by the people receiving services. Sante of Mesa got some good reviews from the families of those being served. The physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists were all personable and competent. The nurses and CNA’s were pleasant caring people. They went well beyond just doing their jobs. They were genuinely concerned with providing sensitive and tender care. I didn’t think it was possible to find a facility of this quality. My husband has been in other skilled nursing facilities but nothing compares to Sante. The overall cleanliness of the facility is remarkable, no “hospital smells “. Their PT and OT areas are well equipped, the patient rooms are large and well maintained, and as others have remarked, the food is delicious. Most importantly is the staff and the care they provide the residents. This is where Sante is most outstanding. From the moment you are greeted at the front desk, to the nurses, therapists, case managers and support staff, the focus is on providing excellent patient care. If I could honestly give this place no stars I would. The care here is so cold, its not even care. Majority of the people here are truly there for a paycheck. I witnessed my Grandma be treated terrible while I stayed with her, while I visited, and while other family members visited they witnessed the same. Rude nurses, ignore you and leave you in there when you need help. Ask for pain medicine they show up a few hours later and irritated you asked for medicine. Yep i witnessed all that. I had to fetch the idiotic nurse multiple times, and her assistant was basically useless. Grandma just had hip replacement a few days prior to the nurse grabbing her legs and flinging them back up on the bed. All whilst my Grandma cried in pain. No care at all, she didnt care. She was rude, huffing and puffing and clearly hated her job. Sure there are very few there that are kind but this place needs to be cleaned out. I am going to gather names and go to corporate because this play is awful. Grandma a nurse for over 60 years and she gets treated like garbage waiting to be thrown out. I hope those people working at this rehab in Mesa get awful care when they older. Ill speak my mind again when I return. Already told the nurse she was rude as her attitude was awful. Terrible place, DO NOT STICK YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE.Same short nurse with purple hair that flung her legs up was also telling a dimentia patient to shut up and stop yelling. You have a knee replacement and can get to the dining room on your own for meals or call and order your meals you MIGHT be OK here. My husband has been here 2-1/2 days. Hes had a stroke. The first nurse tried to move him in his wheelchair and couldnt figure out why it wouldnt move. I had to tell her that his feet were stuck all the way under the chair. Im surprised he didnt break an ankle. Then she tries to get him transferred from his wheelchair to the couch and falls to the couch with him. I told her he was wobbly and then she said I guess he is. Dah! He cant speak but a few words. So when she leaves he starts moaning. So I ask him if he hurts and he rubs his bad leg and calf. He hardly has any feeling in it, so what the heck. Then I order him supper. He is on a mechanical soft diet. They bring him pasta with sauce and chicken. Then chicken is chopped in one inch cubes. It should have been chopped smaller. If he swallowed that he would choke. I chopped it up for him. Then he gets a hamburger and French fries. Not a problem if they chop them. And I even tell them twice. They said, Dont worry the kitchen knows what he can eat. They send him the hamburger chopped in four and put back in the bun. A fourth of a hamburger is not soft. Then there were steamed baby carrots. Not cut-whole. Not soft. Good thing a friend happened to be there to cut them up for him. Then no lunch. The friend asked about him getting something. They said they thought the friend would order it for him. How would he know to do that?? They assume and dont come and check if hes eaten. Tonight they brought him a tuna sandwich cut in half on toast. Is toast soft? EEK. And he cant push the nurse button so he can go for hours without anyone checking on him. They are to busy answering the other peoples call buttons. I called the nurse today and asked if he could be moved to the couch. He said hed be back in five minutes he was getting something for someone else. He came back 45 minutes later. What am I going to do????

The first incident happened on December 7th when he was sent for an MRI on his knee and no one told me until I was there for our daily visit. Im glad he was sent for this test, but he doesnt hear well and has early stage Dementia so he is easily scared by doing unscheduled activities. The answer I got from Sante when I asked why I wasnt notified was we leave it up to our patients to let family know about appointments. On Sunday December 9th when I got there he told me two of the staff members were helping him off the camode and let him fall to the floor. Instead of telling me when I got there I heard it from my husband. When I asked questions the staff acted like they didnt know what I was talking about. I brought it up to his case manager and she too had no idea anything happened. After two weeks here he was weaker than when he was admitted. Dont leave your loved one here.

Hence the one star. However, the facility is NOT equipped to handle patients with high needs, and they should not accept care of patients who are not independent. There are NO rails on the beds, a huge safety risk especially for stroke patients. Minimal staff are available to help, and the staff are under-trained and transfer patients to wheelchairs unsafely. If you cannot press a nurse call button, you are basically ignored, and even when you do press a button it takes a very long time to get a response. The call button was even broken for a full day.Needless to say, another family member had to stay most of the day to supervise care. We had to make sure meals were provided, because if you cant get yourself to the dining hall you dont eat. Vital medications were never given at the same time each day.If you view the website, you will notice that the staff and board of the organization listed are mostly real estate investors and business people, NOT medical professionals. And it is obvious in the care received. This is a business who cares about profits not patients. If I was recovering from knee surgery or any other minor surgery, I might stay here. For any other reason, stay clear!

My dad came into this facility on November 4,2015. My dad came here for IV antibiotics. He needed 6 weeks of antibiotics to heal from a serious infection. The staff is so short handed that there is only 1 nurse for every 20 patient. My dad was left a lone most of the time when my mom or I were not there. My dad was left with wet pants for hours on end. I had to call the administer several times to get my dads need taken care of .

Poor, inept and unprofessional service. The case manager called me for update on my sister but never checked to see that my sister was sent to the ER. Another proof of incompetence is that while my sister is temporarily in the hospital, Sante wanted to ship her personal belonging out to me without checking with St. Joes to see that she was coming back to Sante. I am medical power of attorney and am not briefed without having to call constantly for updates even though Sante knows that I live 1200 miles from Phoenix. Ive been given inaccurate release dates that Ive had to correct but only after the care coordinators actually read their own files. No concern for family members and luckily for my sister Im on top of her care in spite of Sante

Some nurse ok, one was very good, most horrible and abrupt..mom, 94 yrs old was left on toilet 45 minutes bcs nurse went to lunch. Couldnt get meds for an hour. Was wheeled into dining room and left when it wasnt open. The activity director came into room abruptly YELLING... LETS PLAY BINGO. So rude. Therapist were good but talked too much. Mom was very glad to get out of there. Food was overcooked most of time so we had to furnish our own food.Left to sit in her own pee for hours and developed a butt rash and bed sore. We learned early on that if you have a loved one at this place you better make sure you have a family member in the room 24/7 or they wont be taken care of.

My father in law stayed at this facility for a couple a weeks and received great care. HOWEVER, the discharge process was a disaster. They considered his despicable health status “acceptable”. Not to mention there are major safety concerns regarding where they discharged him; he was sent home, alone. They sent him home on oxygen, with a walker, barely able to take more than 90 steps without becoming lightheaded or dizzy. The man is a high falls risk with the long oxygen cord extension, walker and poor coordination. To make matters worse, the case managers here failed to arrange any aftercare home health services, but instead loaded us up with pamphlets and papers. They wheeled him out the door and washed their hands of him. We will be following through with legal representation if anything bad should happen to him while at home.

Thank you to the people of Sante of Mesa. My care here has been outstanding. The employees are outstanding. It says a lot about Sante when you see the employees walking around and doing their jobs with a smile on their face. The food, the facilities, the services are outstanding. I highly recommend Sante. My biggest fear is that they are going to make me go home!

It should be negative stars! My mother is recovering from a knee surgery and these so called nurses refuse to give pain medication and even refuse to help her get to the bathroom. This place has the most incompetent employees that should not be in the health care field. And the main nurse is very rude to patients and their family members. Find another place to take your family member!!

Awesome place! They take wonderful care of my mom. Doctors and all staff from nurses, pt and cnas, housekeeping they are all professional. I can say this because at first my mom was at an other rehab. The place was so unsafe, bathed her one time in a week. I was there saw it for myself ,lunch was beans and a slice of bread, dinner mashed potatoes so cold the grave was hard and cold. Never saw any sort of meat on her plate! Took me 16 hours to get her transfered and it was a blessing! Sante, food..... home cooking with cloth napkins, water glasses with ice and fresh water. Put it thus way they do things they way u think they should be done for ur loved one!

Sante used to be an amazing place to work I have been there on and off since 2013,and I am disgusted to say at the least that they no longer live up to the standard of excellence in my book..they treat there employees with little to no respect and use workplace intimidation/ as well as verbal abuse to control there staff members ,when addressed nothing is done Absolutely disappointing 😕this place is a pretty face with ugly insides...

The Physical Therapists were WONDERFUL. The nurses and aides were nice but our overall experience was ok. Our biggest concern is we feel the facility is understaffed. If you have someone that is very weak from recent surgery, plan on being by their side for a good part of your day at least the first week. You really need to become their advocate and keep an eye on when pain pills are given and if they were able to eat during the day. My loved one was there and was too weak to use the call button to ask for pain meds so we would have to understand when pills were given and keep track. When we would hit the call button for pain meds, an aide would come in and reset the button so indicator light would go off. Wed ask for pain meds and response was always let me tell the nurse. You are lucky if you saw a nurse over the next half hour. Its more like 45 minutes to an hour. So pain would get out of control and take more time to get comfortable. This was especially true at 7PM shift change. There needs to be some overlap coverage during shift change. One of the weekend shifts an aide called repeatedly for help on the walkie talkie and no one responded. She had to leave the room and go hunt someone down.

I am a grateful person like my family who is very happy with the fact that all the staff has treated me well. Sante guaranteed it number 100 because all the staff is beautiful. It feels like home, I guarantee that anything happens - accident or rehabilitation they help. We thank you.
