The case manager and doctor walked in and said things to my dad in direct contradiction to what his long term doctors have repeatedly said (ie, he cant live alone again after his recent falls and multiple hospitalizations). It seemed as though they riffed without actually consulting his case notes or chart - or any messages Id left. And upset a frail old man in recovery, needlessly. It was extremely upsetting to learn of this, as Id left multiple messages asking I be consulted first as his only next of kin/daughter and power of attorney. Otherwise this place is clean and has good specialists.

If I could give California Rehab Institute 10 stars, I would. I take my mom there for neuro physical therapy. We have gone through many other clinics in LA but nothing compares. Our therapist Emily has been a godsend. She is so thorough, professional, yet incredibly kind. The therapy and exercises she been giving to my mom have improved her mobility and quality of life. The entire experience has been positive. Maureen and others in the front have been beyond helpful and so friendly. It has been such a pleasure working with them all. They even validate parking. I don’t know of any clinics that do that. I highly recommend California Rehab Institute. We feel so lucky to have been taken off the waitlist.

Draconian visitation policyHere is the policy: Only one visitor per day is allowed in the three hours between 5 and 8pm.The psycho-social needs of a patient is no less a part of rehab than PT, OT and nutrition. Denying the psycho-social needs of a patient is denying vital therapy. While some patients may do fine with this policy, others don’t and the across the board, no exceptions policy is void of logic. There is no medical reason that a person who’s fully vaccinated cannot visit a family member, if that member needs the familys support to recover.Policy and guideline should never subvert common sense and good clinical practice of medicine. Each case should be evaluated individually.Even though all the other aspects of this facility appeared good, this one glaring omission can be hazardous to your loved ones recovery.I hope Cal Rehab reconsiders this policy

During Covid this can be very isolating for recovering patients who are given limited interaction during the day and none on weekends. Recovering brain injury patients will decline during this time of forced bed restriction for hours at a time when their brains are craving and ready for therapy in the form of interaction of any kind. The reality is that nursing staff see many patients and are following charts and schedules and see very little of the patient as they rush from room to admin. They rely on charts and don’t have context to interpret medicines so can inadvertently mis advise patients and family, but access to those giving prescriptions/schedules is limited.Unless you cannot care for your loved one at home I would strongly advise against putting your loved one here if they are vulnerable to isolation issues and instead use outpatient options.

My mom who turned 88 Jan 1 2021 was admitted to California rehab for a partial hip replacement . Her surgery was successful at cedars and was up walking , laughing, eating when she arrived and the rehab institute. With in 2 -3 days she stoped eating didn’t want to get out out bed , extremely depressed. Dr said she was medically fine . Her date to come home was Jan 12 . The evening of 1-12 she was experiencing bacterial pneumonia symptoms.Dr said they caught it fast but she will do better at the hospital. She arrived at cedars Sinai that evening. The ER Dr called to tell me my mom was on her way out . I was shocked and confused. By Jan 13 my mom passed away . If California rehab would have noticed a bacterial Pneumonia sooner she may still be with us . If a patient isn’t eating and not feeling well he would assume they would send them back to the hospital and not wait to the last minute. This was very traumatic for my family and to see my mom in distress and not able to breathe was heartbreaking. I hope California Rehab Institute takes medical situations more serious sooner So this will not happen to another patient

Very clean establishment, nurses are so extremely nice and you see your doctor regularly. I was on the fifth floor with Dr. Turk and I found the entire staff encouraging and attentive. The therapists adjusted their programming to my specific circumstances and gave me a lot of support. Nice place to for acute physical rehabilitation.

Best experiences with my 92 year old mother. The crew of doctors, nurses, and help were impeccable. One particular person I want to acknowledge and thank is Catie Lingelbach, the occupational therapist. She was very attentive, super helpful in every question, even she managed to go out of her territory and help us to solve organizational problems at discharge. Her magic smile and kind soul is striking. Catie is a great person. Many thanks from the Olshanskys family

I am writing this on behalf of my husband who was a patient. We chose CRI for care after his discharge from UCLA after 3+ months of hospitalization and hospital bed confinement, as the loss of about 70 lbs of muscle. After considering 3 other facilities, CRI was the clear choice, based on the top equipped facility, private patient rooms, and great nursing and rehab care. The overseeing physician, Dr Turk, was excellent--available and conscientious in his individual care. All of the nurses were great, and we particularly thank Ruth & Vina, as well as CNAs Blanca, Ezu & Shawna. Therapists Kate, Jenna, and Debbie were excellent and made all the difference in enabling the ultimate discharge home. If we had to do it again (hope that we do not) we would choose CRI.

Disorganized hospital that has grown too fast. Maybe the hospital is good for physical rehabilitation of patients who otherwise are younger and healthy, but it provides horrible service or the elderly. The staff does not work as a team, is not coordinated, information is not communicated well between shifts, is inexperienced. The case workers are not friendly, caring or competent. The patient was readmitted to hospital due to consequences of poor treatment at this facility. Its sleek and clean, but the quality of care for patients with underlying health conditions needs a huge amount of improvement.

Very clean place, nurses very helpful and friendly. But the Parking Manager named EMERSON is not the kind of people this place needs. He makes me paid twice one day of parking. On top of that, the parking is expensive, I had to pay for one day $32.00 dlls!. Thats why I gave them 2 stars. But the nurses are good

Just admitted this evening and frankly I’m terrified ! You are not evaluated by a physician after your admission until NEXT DAY- absurd and never experienced in my 27 years as a nurse practitioner. My spouse and I also had CRI misrepresented by Cedars-Sinai- my medication Orders from Cedars did not roll over as promised by Cedars and Cedars pain control docs were not forthcoming this morning before DC. Whoever the MD on tonight at CRI did speak with me By phone but never did an assessment and @ least reordered pain meds per protocol I was on @ Cedars. Will do another review after I meet with CRI docs tomorrow. I am totally disappointed by both Cedars and CRI. It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. However the nursing staff try hard to make you comfortable but have little impact with CRI MDs.

My stay & the care I received at California Rehabilitation Institute was outstanding. The fifteen hours/week of physical, occupational & speech therapy allowed me to walk talk & eat by the time I left the facility. The patient to staff ratio was such that I did not wait for services. The facility was clean & carefully monitored. Among the MANY excellent staff members, four stood out. Dr. Christopher Boudakian lowered my anxiety by promptly answering my questions. Isabel Burrows PT provided community resources & exercises which can be done on my own. Rosa Rodriguez CNA gently & pleasantly attended to my personal needs. Shannon gave me much needs speech therapy which helped me swallow my many pills.

Inconsistent and terrible workplace in which patients and workers are treated with disrespect from impolite workers. The workers and supervisors seem to only care about themselves, creating an environment in which dedicated workers are treated unjustly as if there situations do no matter. I do not recommend this hospital, what Ive seen is truly shameful.

I spent three weeks in CRI on the 4th floor. Everyone treated me with respect. Dr Cushing and his team was awesome. All nurses were kind and very personable. My PT, Hannah was great, she made sure that I get stronger each day. My case manager Jody helped me to get everything I needed when I left the place. I think this is the Ritz of Rehabs, you have your own room with a view and a bathroom. Everyone is trying to make your stay more pleasant. You have to realize though that this place is still a hospital and you wont have that much privacy. Life starts at 7 each day so you better sleep at night if you can. You also have to know that you are on intense therapy sessions, 3 hours a day. You are here to get better and you have to work at it. I am glad that I got to spend three weeks here after my surgery. Thank you for everything.
