In 2013, a leading periodontist performed an implant procedure on my tooth #7 that went disastrously wrong. It resulted in severe bone loss and gum recession that permanently disfigured my smile. I am in the entertainment industry, so these consequences were far greater for me than for most. Although Dr. Sascha Jovanovic did not do the initial implant, I was referred to the gIDE Center to mitigate the damage. Conversations with other patients while in the waiting area revealed that others had come from far and wide to correct errant procedures. His reputation appeared to be stellar. I met with Dr. Jovanovic, he took x-rays and upon full evaluation, he promised me the moon. He touted a “gum regenerative” product that he had developed that would produce transformative results. I was to discover that promotion, swagger and false hopes are his genuine strengths. Delivering on his promises is not. During the following two years I endured at least six gum-graft surgeries using his patented product. All of them failed. The cost was exorbitant. I recall him saying he would never resort to using pink porcelain on me. He didn’t approve of the look of it and wanted better for me. In 2015 I left his practice for the last time with pink porcelain with the look of chewing gum visibly present above and around tooth #7 and worse yet, an implant crown that was a glaringly different color than my other teeth. Moreover, it was customary to wait at least an hour for my scheduled appointments at gIDE. No apologies. At times I was forgotten altogether. I was terribly unhappy, dissatisfied and self-conscious with every aspect of my gIDE experience. He on the other hand carried on, proclaiming his brand around the world. This year, 2021, after eight years of trying to hide and camouflage my defective smile, I found a little-known prosthodontist in Tempe, Arizona named Dr. Mark Montana. He does not advertise. He relies uniquely on word of mouth. In 6 months, prescribing a bold and innovative plan, he has beautifully restored my teeth, my confidence and my spirit.
