Three Asians, including me, were asked to leave without any explanation after the first round of riding. This should be a two-day course. On the first day, It’s knowledge lesson in the morning and driving in the afternoon, but after the lunch, I was console out for no reason after the first round of riding. This is so ridiculous. Is this racial? Asian hater? An Asian who was also asked to leave asked reason? The coach said perfunctorily that we did not follow the instructions, and then asked the specific instructions which we were not followed, and the coach did not speak any more, but insisted that we must leave. Is this legal?

Glad I went here for learning motorcycle safety basics. Those who have rode motorcycle outside of USA and are confident in their skills in riding a motorcycle stateside, think again, you really should get your skills redone here. Mike Davis was my instructor here and he is Fantastic! Learned a lot from him. Thank you!P.S. You may not get time to go out and get lunch/snack during your course here. Bring what you want to eat that day with you if youre going to be here all day.

Two of the instructors—Jim and Jeff—are absolutely fantastic. In just two days they transformed our diverse group of students into safe, confident riders, while facilitating an incredibly fun learning environment. If youve been on the fence about learning to ride, drop everything and sign up ASAP. (just remember to read through the confirmation emails for necessary attire. If you show up in flip-flops and a t-shirt, for obvious safety reasons youll be kicked out of the class).

Once the training was done, we were able to do the testing and clearance for the endorsement. If you go through the Can-Am website, you can get a large discount for the price of the class. They have Can-Am Rykers and Spiders and a Trike as well for people to take the class and test.

I rarely write reviews, but, my experience taking the Basic Rider Course at Totem Lake Evergreen Safety Council has been so great that made me write a review. In general, the classroom material, and practice motorcycles were in very good shape. But, in particular, my instructors, Jim and Jeff were amazingly great. Jim and Jeff are incredible people and I look forward to taking the additional riding course with them. Jim and Jeff are very respectful, considerate, thoughtful, kind, caring, and passionate people. They are just great instructors. The world would be a much better place if there were more people like these guys. They make you realize how passionately they care about their students and students’ safety, not only during the course, but also for the rest of their lives as long as riding a motorcycle on the roads. They make you feel responsible towards them and take every precaution for the rest of your life to avoid any incidents while riding a motorcycle.

I took their Basic Rider Course course at Totem Lake in order to get my motorcycle endorsement. It was a blast! Jeff B. and Jim were my instructors, and both were excellent guys. They had a genuine interest in helping all of the riders improve and pass the tests. I only briefly spoke to other employees there, but they all seemed kind and that they wanted to be there (not just another job). The equipment provided was pretty good for such a cheap class. $125 for the subsidized one ($50 if you are under 18), and I didnt even have to sign up far in advance, I think it was about 4 days prior to the first class. They also have options if you want to complete it in 3 days or just 2 longer days. From what I saw of other classes, the size ranges from about 6 people to 10 or so. It is small enough to get good individual instruction, and large enough to have some other cool people to learn with.I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to take a class. I am considering going back and taking a more advanced class in the future.

Martin and Donna were amazing instructors and their personal experience showed their knowledge and love for riding. After not having ridden a motorcycle for 4 years, I decided to take the beginner motorcycle course to brush up on safety and skills. The morning class was good, and I did indeed learn a couple of new things, but was eventually dismissed from the course due to a very reasonable scheduling misunderstanding (See full story below). To keep things short, the instructor changed both the time and duration of lunch but did not clearly communicate the changes to the class. As a result, I showed up 5 minutes late when I thought I was showing up 20 minutes early. I was not issued a refund and to retake the course I would have to re-pay the class fee. When I signed up for the course, I received a class schedule that indicates which hours Id be spending in a classroom vs out on the course. On this schedule, it showed that students would have an hour for lunch in between the classroom and course sessions. However, before lunch our instructor noted that students without helmets (all but myself and one other student) should arrive 15 minutes early to select a helmet. Our instructor ended up letting the class out early for lunch at 10:54. The words I heard were be back at 11:45 which I took to mean be back 15 minutes early to pick up your helmets. Being a very punctual person, I arrived back from lunch at 11:40, even though I already had a helmet. Based on my understanding, I was arriving 20 minutes early and was prepared to sit around while folks selected their helmets. Unfortunately, that wasnt the case, and as I pulled into class I saw most of the students sitting on motorcycles outside.I quickly put on my helmet and made my way to the class, but as I arrived the instructor signaled me to join him at the front of the class. There, I was informed that I was late and would not be permitted to continue the course. When I let him know it wasnt even 11:45 yet, he informed me that lunch was only 45 minutes, even if we already had a helmet, and that class had let out before 11.This misunderstanding could have been easily avoided if the instructor had just followed the class schedule. If he had not ended class at an unusual time (10:54) and allowed students the full hour that the schedule specified, this wouldnt have happened. What really upsets me is that he didnt wait just a few more minutes for myself and the other student that was late. Given all the changes he made to the schedule, it seemed perfectly reasonable that someone might misunderstand what time we were supposed to be back from lunch. After all, the class was WAY ahead of schedule... its not as if they couldnt afford to wait for 5 more minutes for those who misunderstood.Being the extremely punctual person I am, this was a very upsetting experience. Again, I thought I was showing up early only to be penalized for a reasonable misunderstanding. I dont yet know if Ill have to re-pay for the course, but regardless, its unlikely I will attend again - we already get enough BS from the DOL, I dont need more of it from the Evergreen Safety Council.UPDATE: I called their office to ask for a refund, but was told they could not issue refunds despite the unfortunate misunderstanding. Instead, I was offered a discounted rate to re-take the class, which I declined.

I had a great experience in the Basic Rider Course with ESC. Jim and Jeff were excellent instructors - clear, communicative, encouraging, knowledgeable, engaging, and empathetic. They were also compassionate with regard to a few students tardiness, much more so than other reviewers have experienced. Course instructor started picking on me right from the start. I had zero motorcycle riding experience coming in and wanted to learn the ropes but I was never given a choice. Jeff apparently did not like my accent, ignored some of my questions and stated that I had a language barrier. This is the first time I have heard this expression applied to me in my many years of residing in US. Instead of explaining the concept and then letting person practice Jeff wanted me to get along with the program and made repeated threats to kick me out. This was very discouraging and demotivating. Still I felt I was able to keep up and never bumped into anyone or failed any of the tests. In fact there were none; however, it seemed every single exercise was some kind of test in Jeffs eyes. I felt I never got sufficient time to practice because Jeff expected for everyone to move along so he could dismiss the class by 4:30 pm at the end of the day instead of published end time of 6 pm. That was his personal goal he stated at the very beginning. One apparent example of Jeff showing me clear disrespect was our last interaction where he invited me to come over with his index finger rather than calling me by name or coming over by himself. Jeff asked how I was feeling about the program and I replied that my main goal was to try out motorcycle riding and that he was stressing me out by continuously passing judgements and not letting me practice. I also told him that I did not particularly care if I was going to get the certification but I wanted to evaluate my overall experience with the motorcycle and hence asked him to continue letting me practice. That was the last straw for Jeff. He said that I should have picked a different course and that this class was moving much faster than I was prepared for. He told me I should call the academy and ask to be rescheduled for another class that would take all of these steps in slow sequence. With this he made me sign the bottom of the pink sheet in front of classmates adding to my humiliation factor and stating this was the only condition I would get any credit for the money I paid. When I contacted the company the following weekday I was refused any refund.

We spent 9 of those hours on the bikes. My class had many first-time riders including myself and 9/10 of us passed. The tardiness policy and gear requirements are not a joke. Plan to arrive needlessly early each day. Read the gear requirements on the website carefully so that you dont get dropped from the course for having improper gear. Evergreen Safety had its ups and downs.I explained to the desk my skill level and they suggested intermediate. After careful consideration I joined that class. The theory part of class started out well and went over street tactics and lightly touched upon the fundamentals. The bike I received was in sub-par condition. I did however ask for a Ninja 250 and rather nicely they found one for me. I would, next time let the pick of the draw happen. Im sure I would have gotten a better bike as the class was small.Things moved at a fairly advanced pace in the street course. Dont join intermediate unless you feel you ARE already riding with confidence. It isnt for those who are long removed from riding. The teacher was unclear about several things: I thought I was waved to move once, some commands and explainations were vague. When the teacher confronted me about certain things he was a bit unprofessionally gruff and terse. It stole my confidence. All in all I would have taken the basic course, wade through ALOT of things I have a firm grasp on and do the road test at a more confidence inspiring pace.2.5/5 stars.

If you disagree with Clarey Maus, vindictiveness begins to become her guiding light. Her focus turns to manipulation of circumstances in order to harm your business or your career. No way the State of Washington should do business with a place that puts someone guided by narcissism, vindictiveness in a position to harm a persons business and reputation. No arbitration, no time taken in the class you pay $600 for to explain that 1 clerical error will cost you your business. How can a place who turns out flaggers that cant use radios, understand scope of work, the equipment on jobsites. Hold a person to perfection, when they are putting unqualified people on the road? No oversight and no competition. Thats why a business would move to an area far away from any union or the majority of workers needing the training the State allows them to have a monopoly on. Kirkland. How many flaggers live near Kirkland or Kirkland is s convenient location for? Probably less than 5%. But when youre allowed a monopoly, you can do all kinds of things that cause hardworking business owners their business. My real sin was not bowing down to Clarey Maus as she was yelling at me. Guess she knew she could be unprofessional, dishonest, even argumentative. All she has to do is lie and misrepresent the truth. Coincidentally after avoiding me for 3 weeks. The day she responded coincidentally was the last day this year I could have relicenced with ATSSSA. She knew what she was doing. She knew my business would be harmed and not until next year could I relicense with another agency. Not a coincidence at all. She said, when she was yelling at me that she would show me. With the blessing of Pemco insurance, Sound Transit, the Local Union halls and the State of Washington Clarely Maus is allowed to lie, scream , manipulate the truth and harm business owners that disagree with her. Im tired of big business stepping and manipulating us small contractors. Lookup Bothell Little Creek Interceptor project. I caught big business using union prevail workers at day and Temp services at not and not paying prevail. These things happen when people are put into positions their temperment and moral compass arent prepared for. Im angry, but honest. Im tired as a small minority contractor of being held to a standard the agency that has a monopoly with the State doesnt come close to reaching. As a minority contractor why is my fate always in the hands of people that have issues with me or similar? Clarey Maus is unprofessional and not the most honest person. She definitely wasnt in her dealins with me. Then to wait to the day she knows i cant relicence my business with another agency until next year, shows that she went out of her way to harm a business that as a single father i have put all my finances effort and energy into. Had i know my business was in the hands of 1 person who displayed questionable business practices, id have learn to cook or something other than this industry. Who knew in the big State 1 person could pick and choose who can be licensed and who couldnt. My sin was training my own on call flaggers. Im not allowed to do it, but temp services can. And as Bothell Little Creek Interceptor project shows, little flagging company owners like myself are susceptible to falling Victim to the Clarey Maus, Laborworks, Fowler type companies. Smh.

What a trip they make you drive (WA DOL) to get here but very accommodating once you finally arrive. This is the ONLY place you can do walk-in endorsement testing. Skills tests and written endorsements may be at other evergreen centers in the state by APPOINTMENT Im not sure though. Well thats not their fault, its our states.I was told that Friday would be open all day for skills testing and arrived around 3:00pm and then was told they only do walk-ins on Friday at 10:00am sharp. Wow talk about a tight schedule in a single location for a whole state! But they worked me in and I think the guy even stuck around late for me and one other guy, nice of him when he could have just left us to come next week 10am on the dot. I ended up waiting around for 2 hours but its ok. I did not see anywhere or was I told walk-ins would only be done at 10am and the other guy said the same thing so watch out for that. They might still accommodate you depending on schedules but take note.

That time Rob(Im not sure this is his name, maybe Bob?) is my couch, hes a nice old man, but his class didnt focus on the BRC book, just a mess of his experience, its good but not helpfull to pass the written test. And Robs skill couch is also not good enough, he didnt taught details like what Jeff taught how to use clutch brake and throttle. Yes, I know guys taking IRC should be aware of that, but to pass skill tests need special guide on these details. And Rob also didnt noticed I pulled clutch always when passing corners.
