The staff and facility has cared for my dad a long time and served wonderfully. They are professional and work well together across the roles to love him as family. There’s no better place in my book and vote well done Avamere leadership. Carry on !

This has nothing to do with the caregivers at Avamere. They were always very polite and treated my mother very well. They genuinely cared for her. This is about their business office and billing practices. My mother passed away at the beginning of the month. I paid for her portion of her care each month, in advance. They would automatically charge my credit card and other than them raising the price on me without notification, it was fairly pain free. After my mother passed I asked about the billing policy and what I needed to do to make sure I wasnt charged the following month. They said that wouldnt be a problem and that I would also be getting a prorated refund from them. That never happened. After waiting and calling and never getting a call back, I guess I finally bugged them enough to respond. They left me a VM. It was short: You are not entitled to a refund. Even though your mother did not stay with us for the entire month (only days actually), we do not offer refunds. We should not have told you you would be getting one. If this answer is not good enough for you (she literally said this in the VM), take it up with Medicaid. So, thats it. How much money do you think they get to keep by charging patients families for an entire month after theyve passed? Im guessing its considerable when you think of how many patients they have there. The unfortunate thing is that this is probably pretty common within the industry. Theyre out to make a buck any way they can even if its absolutely unethical. They simply do not care. Please beware of them.

We have been both unhappy and happy with information provided regarding ongoing care, on plan of treatment, how long Ted is expected to have to be in the facility, the food, the treatment by some staff and ability to keep in contact with each other. The phone in his room does not connect to incoming calls so we have to leave a message with some one to tell him we called. He has been left for several hours in soiled underwear which is not a very good idea.No one has told the family what is happening with his progress, details on medical appointments or his progress or proposed further treatment, how long his stay might be, or just about anything. We have both had our COVID vaccines and it is now past two weeks since the second so why am I still not able to see him. Is there no way he can meet me outside or something? We are very disappointed and challenged wit the situation as it stands.Jill Rickman, 3/26/2021

First time I put my trust into Avamere they took great care of my Grandmother. Second time was shocking to hear and see. They did not take care of her hygiene well. She was left in dirty clothes for multiple days and Im not talking small stains. I had called and was very nice and asked why this was happening and i did not get a call back. Also i was told on multiple occasions she would be helped into the bathroom and then be left in there for 20 minutes or longer, so long that my dad and my uncle had to help her out because no one came back. What the hell Avamere? You charge $12,000 for this type of care? Is that how you want to be treated when youre elderly? Do not go into this type of career field if you cannot act decent and treat people correctly. I cant believe this.

My father is in rehab there now and they are very slow to respond to his needs and one of the attendants told me I should not be vising now because they said it was not a good time at 930 am . Took them well over 30 minutes to respond to the call button for help to the bathroom and to bed. Update we had a meeting today with the director and he was quick to address the issues .

This place is not a safe place for nothing. It was a very bad experience on my grandmother and would not wish this on anyone. No matter the feedback of the staff should you believe it. This doesnt even deserve any stars. The nurses wouldnt come for about 30 minutes after she pushed the EMERGENCY BUTTON and this is NOT OK. These people deserve to be fired and treated the same way. You try having a wet diaper for hours. NEVER AGAIN AND DONT TRUST IT FOR YOUR FAMILY!!!This was torture and supposedly for any person with dietary restrictions it is DISCRIMINATION to aide to those restrictions. Not good for aftercare or for a home facility. This is not a safe place whatsoever. My grandmothers patient next door to her even pressed her button and it took more than 30 minutes for the both of them. This place is DISGUSTING, DISRESPECTFUL, and INHUMANE.

Avamere is the best!! Becky was so helpful with placing my 93 y.o. Mother! It was a difficult decision. But it has proved to be the best one ever for mom!! She loves it!! Lies the care givers and the food. She is so “busy” with activities and friends she forgets to call!! The staff is very good and very kind and patient with her. I would recommend Avamere to anyone needing care for their loved one!!

From the beginng I found Avamere to be a nightmare. I was kept awake by nurses outside my door, gossiping loud enough to wake the dead. Needless to say, they got you up at 6:00 a.m. for vitals and then disappeared while you tried to go back to sleep. I had a hip replacement that bled during the night and filled the sheet with blood. They did nothing but change the sheets. You couldnt go to the bathroom without one of the staff hovering around to make sure you didnt fall. You were supposed to call them so they could be there. You could not get out of bed to go by yourself. Once I waited up to an hour to get relief. Women were showered by men without being given a choice. The worst of it was an aid who got her face in mine at 2:00 a.m. and yelled in my face, asking if I had to go to the bathroom. I had been fast asleep. After that she continued to bully me all the time I was there. I consider her actions to be elder abuse. So forget your placating little response to this review. Im considering a lawsuit.

This place should go union. In building 1, I always hear Rebeca raising her voices at her caregivers. All these caregivers do way to much there basically slaves. Sorry to break it down that way. Although all the caregivers here are nice & positive... there human and shouldn’t not be screamed at. I’m so glad my mother isn’t here anymore. The other buildings 2 & 3 are good.

We had an awful experience while my mother was at AvaNightmere. The first night she was there it took over 30 minutes to get someone to come into her room to help her move to the restroom. She called me and I had to call the front desk to get them to have someone go in and help her. The next day I was there and it took close to 20 minutes for me to find a staff member to assist her. Another afternoon she was left on the bedside commode for 45 minutes. We were told “we would like to respond to the call button within 5 minutes but it takes closer to 15mins”.The food is highly salty and I never saw any fresh fruit or vegetables. I had to take fruit and packaged oatmeal cups to her So she would get food she could eat. Serving adults hot dogs, warmed up frozen waffles (the fruit with it was a scoop of cold apple pie filling) and other canned and frozen food service items you would expect to find at a middle of no where summer camp is completely unacceptable for adults in rehabilitation that need nourishment to to build strength. The room was never cleaned and dark. The blinds were broken, light bulbs were burned out and took a number of days to get replaced and fixed. The toilet in the room backed up and the staff told my mother and her roommate. “This happens a lot”. They left wet towels in the restroom for 4 days. My mother was supposed to have her bandage changed twice a day and they only changed it once over 3 days.Pros:The Physical Therapy was great and she really liked how they cared for her.Her overall experience was a nightmare. She ended up with a significant infection and had to be rushed to the ER and have another surgery. We refused to let her go back to Avamere.

Most of the staff try hard to ensure that this is a safe place for the residents. Many of the staff have worked here for years. The food service has changed recently, and is now much worse. The food is generally served overcooked and cool or cold. They no longer have the wonderful soup and salad bar they used to have at lunch and dinner. I lost weight during my recent stay. Response to residents call buttons is often slow, as staff often seem overworked - a 20 minute wait is not unusual. Physical therapy staff are generally good. OT staff is ok. Many caring nurses, but a few are subpar. The building really needs a deep cleaning, many repairs, and cosmetic upgrades. Overall, I think this is best nursing home you can find in Salem, but there is definitely room for improvement.

I retired from Senior Living Care. When I came to visit my sister this week I was on the defensive. I was pleasantly surprised at the radiant care of each staff member. I smelled NO offensive odor which is often present in facilities. One staff member said, The reason I got up this morning was to care for you.My sister said if she could not be home, this is were she wants to be.I am aware of staff challenges and encourage each member to remember:Young people travel in groupsAdults travel in pairsOld people walk ALONE.

Comment: My dad is currently residing in avamere assisted living. He receives decent care. The management has always been responsive to any concerns that we have had. I believe that he gets the care that he pays for. This facility is not the most luxurious but it is clean and does not smell. Yes, it would be nice to have the next level up on food. Also, they could keep the hall blinds on an upward tilt to allow in more light. I do periodically see windows open to allow in fresh air and I am very grateful for that attention to detail. My family learned a hard lesson as we had to move our dad here from Bonaventure - yes, it looked nice there but there was no substance of management response or ability to provide care due to significant understaffing. It ended up being a modern facade that cost almost twice the amount and less care than he gets now. Avamere may not be perfect but it has been a solid decision for us.

As I am reading through the reviews Im finding that my mother is going through some similar issues. I cant believe they have done nothing to improve the bad reviews. Food is absoultley disgusting, call times are ridiculous. I have complained about the care my mother has received but what they do is hand you a pacifier, Im just going to have to call the state and voice my concerns there. Here are my thoughts, my mother has myself and two other sisters that will advocate for her, I couldnt imagine what type of care individuals are receiving that do not have family to advocate for them. I am very disappointed and I have requested a transfer. I will be making some calls to some folks that will take the time to here my concerns and look into it further.

I was at Avamere after a surgery. Most staff were kind and caring. Response time to call button ranged from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Facility was noisy-I was by the delivery entrance and shared a wall with the utility room where a large engine would start and run randomly. Food was cold most of the time, I was the last room on the hall many times my food order was wrong and the reply I got was- sorry the kitchen is closed we cant fix it. The toliet and shower in my room were both broken for all but the last day I was there.

This is a horrible place to go for rehabilition. We had a family member at Avamere Court in Keizer and are far from pleased about the service she received. When you arrive the building will look pretty nice from the outside but as soon as you walk through the front door you will realise they put lip stick on a nasty dirty pig. The rehab building is run down and absolutely disgusting. The walls in her room were all scuffed and crusted with god only knows what. The floor is so dirty that it looks like it belongs in my wood shop and not a hospital like setting. The nurses are 50/50 when it comes to attitude. One nurse appeared to truly care about my grandma while with other nurses it is obviously a job... And a job that they hate. They also tend to leave patients in their wheel chairs all day and give attitude when they are asked to help move one from their chair to their bed. I am yet to see any rehab done for her... Infact she only got worse due to neglect. They sent her to a doctors appointment without a bra and in short shorts which robbed her of her dignity. Even the medical transport was embarrassed for her and us. She fell out of her wheel chair while in their supervision and hit her head extremely hard on the ground. We received a phone call about it and were told that she fell backwards out her chair. We are talking about an 80 year old women who cant even stand and they want me to believe she was able to pop wheelies enough to fall out. I cant take back what she went through but i can try to keep others from going through it. Dont put any of your loved ones through this. I also learned to do more research before anyone else i know goes into one of these places. They have been busted several times and given numerous violations for much of what I just described and yet nothing has changed much. Obviously money driven and not passionate about what they do.

Not the cleanest.Appears some staff are there because it is a job not seeing much compassion. I work in a care center and we would dismiss staff if they responded like this.
