Dr. Mailapur performed my gastric sleeve surgery in May of 2021. From the very first appointment until now during my post surgery appointments, my experience has been flawless. I had my weight loss surgery in November 2019 with Dr. Mailapur as my surgeon. From the first time I stepped foot in his office, he and his staff made me feel right at home. Almost 2 years later, I feel the exact same way. Dr. Mailapur truly cares for his patients and wants them to succeed with their tool. I had my sleeve gastrectomy procedure done June 23rd and so far I’m happy with my results 60 pounds down in 3 months it was a struggle at the beginning but it was well worth it. Dr.Mailapur and Amanda and his team are by far the best and amazing at what they do. Communication is very well on point I had issues at the beginning and Amanda stayed on top of answering my questions and making sure I was well. Dr. Mailpar took out my gallbladder October, 2021. If I need surgery in the future I will definitely let him do it. My experience with Dr. Mailipar and his staff was great. He was professional, explained the procedure and the risk. Before and after surgery he came to check on me. I cant say enough about him and his staff. He is a great Doctor.

BLUF: I had the Lap Band ~8 years ago & without success. I happily had it removed simultaneous with a gastric sleeve. I would have this gastric sleeve surgery again 10x over. 90 days post surgery I am down 77lbs...or 33% overall reduction from my high water mark. IN ADDITION: I an no longer on ANY prescription medications. I was on 5 (both weight and anxiety-related)...now nothing! I highly recommend Dr. Mailapur and his staff to get you through the insurance wickets, pre-surgery & post surgery tasks. If you are on the fence about doing this, this is highly do-able. Any 5-10 days post-surgery pain or discomfort (there is zero pain or discomfort now) is 100x overshadowed by how I feel and look now...and the loss is still far from over!

It’s been 1 year since my sleeve surgery. I have never met another surgeon so compassionate and caring about his patients. Amanda (nurse practitioner) is excellent. Staff is 50/50. Some (Jessica, Amber) are exceptional. The others seem a little checked out like they’re just going through the motions, but overall, great practice. I always had an easy time making appointments. My calls were returned in a timely manner whenever I had an issue that I needed help with. I really appreciated having to take a nutrition class prior to surgery. I met Dr. Mailapur when my wife decided to have the gastric sleeve. She wanted us the have the surgery done at the same time, but I was very skeptical of it. I watched my wife do fantastic with it and is still crushing it. That and a health scare is what helped me in making my decision to have the surgery. During this time, Dr. Mailapur was always very supportive and continued to encourage me to consider the surgery for not just me but for my family. I had the gastric sleeve surgery the Friday before Labor Day 2020. I weighted 384lbs on the day of surgery. I had tried many many times on my own to loose weight with me actually weighing at my heaviest 425lbs. The lowest I was ever able to get to was 371lbs but slowly gained it back to my weight before surgery. Since surgery I have lost 80lbs and just finished my first ever 5k this past weekend. I’ve never wanted to run unless something was chasing me or I was running to get in line to eat. Now I run with my family to stay healthy and be around for a long time. I cannot say how thankful I am for Dr. Mailapur for all his help and encouragement.

Dr. M. and his staff are super nice and easy to work with. The wait time in his office is kind of long, but it’s because he’s a busy man. He performed my sleeve gastrectomy and I’ve had zero issues and have had great success. I’m currently about to have my gallbladder removed by him as well. I trust him 100%.

I began my weight loss surgery prep with a different surgeon and it was a terrible experience. I switched to Dr. Mailapur and it has been wonderful the whole way through. I was referred to Dr. Mailapur after a bad experience with a previous surgeon. He was kind, compassionate, and communicated well. I went in for a what I thought was a removal of 3 sebaceous cysts. One turned out to be a rare sarcoma. Dr. Mailapur discussed with me and we went in for a more detailed removal of the camcer and the next results were negative!! I highly recommend Dr. Mailapur and his skills. He treated me like family, so what else could you ask for? Its good to know he is there again, if I need him. His nurse practitioner also rocks!

Six years ago, with the aid and guidance of Dr. Mailapur, I made the most important health decision of my life. I put myself in the most capable hands of Dr. M and committed myself to gastric sleeve surgery. To say that I truly feel that Dr. M saved and extended my life is a huge understatement. Having lost a total of 100+ lbs, I was able to once again return to the weight I returned from after a year in Vietnam at the ripe old age of 23. After an exam, Dr. Mailapur explained why surgery was necessary, what my surgery entailed, and what I could expect by way of post-surgical recovery. I originally visited with Dr. Mailapur in 2017 and attended his information seminar. At the time I had never any medical procedures done, so the thought of having surgery was completely overwhelming. 3 years later I ended up in his office terrified again but committed to following through with it this time. After being approved my surgery was performed on Mar 15, 2021 and as of July 7, 2021 I am currently down 93 pounds. I must admit that initially I was a little taken back by Dr. Mailapur because he is very direct and tells you exactly how it is. I could not decide if that was just his personality or if I was just another patient and he didnt really care. But, 3 weeks after surgery I was hospitalized for 5 days with an unrelated issue. Despite it being ruled out that I was not having complications from my sleeve, Dr. Mailapur or Amanda were the absolute first to be their to check on me each morning of all the teams involved in my care. Overall have had a great experience with his office, his nurse Jessica answered all of my emails despite how many or how frequent. Last but definitely not least, Amanda the Physician Assistant is absolutely amazing and has the best bedside manner that I have ever encountered.

Him and his staff, in order for me and anyone to become successful, have all of the tools, advice, and knowledge to prepare you for this life giving surgery. I just celebrated my five year anniversary of the gastric sleeve. I lost 135 pounds, and although Ive gained some back, I am still 100 pounds down. I have my family back and play with the grandkids all of the time. Also, August of 2020, he removed my gallbladder and repaired an umbilical hernia. I had Gastric Bypass done in 2010, lost 80% of the weight I needed to lose and have kept it off. I also went from 4 insulin shots per day to one low dosage shot at bedtime. Ive been to 3 ERs in the past week and none of them helped me. I saw Dr. Mailapur today and immediately felt like I was in good care. His office staff are friendly and professional. I felt heard by everyone. Dr. Mailapur was able to listen to my problems, review tests done at the ER, and clearly explain different options, and my procedure to me. I feel reassured and am looking forward to having my gallbladder removed tomorrow. Honestly, Im also relieved now after meeting Dr. Mailapur that the ER didnt help me and that he is doing the surgery instead of someone there. I started my weight loss journey with Dr Mailapur, 11 years ago. My weight was 248lbs I think, I just had my check up and weighed 120. Before I bwas insulin dependent, and not in control at all! My blood pressure was high, and arthritis in my feet and ankles was making any activity painful. As a new grandmother, I was convinced I needed to do something to stop this terrible cycle of dieting yo-yo!Dr Mailapur was honest and very straight forward. The surgery is a tool! How you use the tool determines the results.Yes, it was a terrifying decision! I’m so thankful that I didn’t back out! My husband suffered a serious automobile accident, a few months before I was scheduled to have surgery. And caring for him during his extended rehab only made me more aware of my own limitations! As soon as he was recovered enough for me to have the surgery, I did! I had surgery on Monday, came home on Tuesday, and in that short time my husband came down with a staph infection! On Wednesday I drove him back to Huntsville Hospital for another surgery, and we were there for a WEEK. Just saying the Bypass wasn’t that painful, all I ever took was Tylenol. But hey, I was kinda busy. LOLYes you’ll have rules you will need to follow to stay hess as healthy. But if you think about it there just common sense! Gonna need to follow up annually with lab work. I’m very happy with Dr Mailapur and his staff. They’ve always been wonderful and supportive.
