My mom was brought in by EMS 1am this morning and I feel compelled to share our experience. My mom is 80 yr old patient with dementia. She was treated quickly, properly, and with the utmost respectful care in this ED. Her nurse Jennifer was by far the nicest, most Informative nurse I’ve ever dealt with. The patience and kindness she showed my mom, who was confused and scared, was incredible. She took extra time to ask me questions and to help me better understand my moms diagnosis. I feel better equipped mentally to communicate with my mom after speaking with her nurse. I am so pleased with every staff member we encountered during this visit from the intake coordinator to the triage nurse and even the nurse at the front who was observant enough to see that I was shaken up and soaked from the rain and provided me a blanket to get warm and rubbed my back to calm me down. My moms fearful visit turned into a calm visit which is not always easy to do with someone who has dementia. I commend all those who were involved in my moms care today. Thank you all so very much for treating her like she truly mattered!!

Waited in the waiting room for 8 hours with life threatening phosphorus levels. They took my blood in triage as soon as I got there and it took 12 hours in total, eight of which were spent in the waiting room, before a Doctor finally was able to read my blood work and diagnose me. I’ll only go back if I have absolutely no other option.

I had a horrible experience at the emergency room. I went in and the hospital was packed I had to wait for 5 hours and ended up leaving and going to another hospital. I’m pretty sure I saw someone having mini seizures and none of the staff seemed to do anything about it and there was clearly very serious emergencies there and no one was doing anything. The staff I saw (front desk, triage, and hospitality) were friendly and as helpful as possible but that was the only positive about this place. I’m not from around here so I’m not sure how the hospital itself is but I 10/10 DO NOT recommend the ER. They’d let you drop dead before you saw someone. I’ve heard bad things about this ER from others as well. I’m glad my problem wasn’t as serious as others there and I was able to get to a different hospital.

My aunt is staying here. She was admitted at 330pm and did not get a chance to order her food by 6:30 because they came in and did all sorts of test. By the time they left the cafeteria was closed. All cafeterias were closed. So what can she eat nothing but snacks. You have a staff that works round the clock and all they have is snacks. What kind of hospital is this? You should have a small cafeteria open at least til 8. Shame on you.

Definitely the worst hospital I’ve been in my life. You can die before they take you back to be seen, I sat there as a lady incessantly coughed without a mask and vomited phlegm into a bag. There was one nurse taking people back and forth I sat in the “triage” area for 1.5 hrs before they sent me to the waiting area. I left the hospital before even being seen, I figure I’d just try my luck at home. It was just ridiculous, I’ve never seen anything like it. Literally people standing and sitting on top of each other. HORRIBLE.

My grandmother was in the hospital for 3 days. During the three days she said that was the worst hospital experience that she ever had. We stayed at 302 N and to hear my grandmother say that I know it was really bad. When we needed help it took at least 20+ mins to get someone in the room. We waited majority of the three days for answers on a small GI Endoscopy SAME DAY procedure. Granted, I understand it takes a few days for certain test to come back, but know one kept us updated until we requested for the charge nurse only to find out we could of went home a couple days earlier. DONA one of the nurses had a really bad attitude. We requested a wheel chair during the discharge and she never made sure we had one. My grandmother had to walk out of that big hospital. Even though we experienced this bad visit a nurse named ERICKA and a housekeeper named PHILLYS seemed to brighten her day whenever they entered the room.

I’ve been to the hospital about 5-6 times visiting my sister. My issue has always been the lack of information I get from the doctors and staff. I’m 65 yrs old and have communicated with doctors and nurses in many medical facilities but have never felt like my questions are answered poorly. The last draw is when my sister was sect home while still lethargic and had to go right back. After my visit last Friday I called to check on her status. After speaking with a nurse I did not have a “warm and fuzzy” that they knew what they were talking about. So, today I call a number I’ve had in my phone for about 5 years and no one answers. So I go to the website and use a different one. After it’s answered I’m transferred to another number that I let ring until it disconnects. Oh, also my name has been on her records for next of Kim for about 5-6 years and now had to have my nephew tell them to add it. 🤨

I am giving this Emergency room 2 stars and for many reasons. The people here where very nice and polite that wasnt the problem I had with this Emergency department. I had been here once in August of 2019 and once in November of 2017 and both times I went I had health insurance we had met the deductible in which means it cost me nothing than when I went and had spinal taps done each time and each time I went the pressure in my head was double the normal pressure of any human which is 18 is normal pressure in any humans head and its said you can get by on 25 pressure in your head but no more than that. It took me a week to get the rest and energy I needed to drive from my hometown here in South Carolina to Eastern North Carolina Vidant Emergency room. I drove 4 hours and 20 minutes there to seek treatment and get another spinal tap done, so long story short Im there and got seen pretty fast and get into the emergency room just knowing finally I would get some relief from these massive pressure headaches caused by Pseudotumer Cerbi and be able to feel normal again, so the doctor comes in and talks to me about pain medicine and I tell her it doesnt respond to pain medicine and she says yes I know and I say why offer that to me, last time I was here in August of 2019 I took no pain medicine the guy doctor just numbed the area up he was going to insert the needle in to do the Spinal Tap and did and drained all excess fluid from my head, so she suggested I take a lower dose of pain medicine which was 2 ibuprofen 800mg and some Benadryl, so the nurse comes back in with that and I take it thinking she is waiting on the medicine to kick in to do my spinal tap well after laying there on the hospital bed for a couple of hours sleep with a IV pack draining into me with a needle in my arm the nurse comes back in the room and asked me how I felt and I said I feel ok but Im ready to get the spinal tap over with so the nurse leaves the room and 30 minutes later the Dr comes in the room and says to me since you are feeling better now we are going to let you go and in the morning later on you should see about seeing the Neurologist when they open up about getting a spinal tap done I said you mean to tell me you arent going to do the spinal tap but instead release me after giving me pain medicine I dont need and she said same thing again when the Neurologist opens up I suggest you go see them they open soon. Now mind you that you have to have a referral to see the Neurologist and she knew this and gave no referral for one and two now I have this awful pain medicine in my system thats completely useless to my problem and the fact I done drove 4 and half hours to this hospital to get treatment thinking they understand my situation because Ive been there twice with same problem but nope no help no nothing but some papers on my condition Ive had since 2011 that keeps re occuring sooner and sooner because had she done the spinal tap it of would of been my 5th one since 2013. So now Im semi rested from sleeping on the hospital bed thinking Im about to get some relief again finally and this Dr is discharging me with useless pain medicine in my system and Im have to drive back 4 and half hours to South Carolina in the dark with my head throbbing and feeling bloated and disgusted from the medicine she gave me. Now also mind you I dont have health insurance right now because Im having a hard time in life and most my problems has come from having Pseudotumer Cerbi in which my mother in law used against me to fire me in an underhand way because her son didnt want me at there company he was taking over and didnt like me because Im not good enough for their family. Either they didnt want to do the Spinal Tap because of the Dr not feeling competent enough in her abilities as a doctor are they didnt want to do it because Im down on my luck and have no health insurance but whichever the case I am still without any relief from this pain and the Dr at the free clinic here basically is of little to no help at all:-(

I hate this poor excuse for a hospital. The nurses dont understand the concept of triage.I was brought in on an ambulance, I had been in a wreck where my car had rolled over and was upside down in a ditch. I had a concussion and possibly a broken neck. I was not given a neck brace, and no one cared that with one wrong move from the point of the break down I would have been paralyzed.I sat in the lobby for two hours. It took me threatening to barf on the registration desk and my mother raising Cain to get anyone to notice the bad condition that I was in. My wreck was at 5:30 and I didnt get put in a room until 8:00, they were not busy either. The other patients in the lobby were more worried about me than the poor excuses for medical professionals that this horrid place hires.Once I finally got a room the staff were very worried about my possibly broken spine. They put me in a neck brace and didnt want me moving too much or sitting up too high in bed. Why did it suddenly matter after two and a half hours of no care what-so-ever.Once I did get a room everyone was very attentive. Thats the only reason why this poor excuse for a hospital is getting two stars instead of one.Vidant had better be happy that I didnt have a broken spine, all I had was a concussion from hitting my head on the roof of my car. If my spine had been broken, I would have been in a lawyers office the next day.DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TOO. Im certain that they would let you die in the lobby of the emergency room and not care.

From the security the security guard to the staff assistant who checked me in to the nurse and doctors that treated me, I could not have asked for a more more emotionally intelligent, caring, and professional staff who listened to my to my my problem and provided the best care I could expect. The Problems start with your entrance into the ER Department. The triage or screening department can be done with an RN or a Nurses aid however the RN will sign off on your Triage . They miss use the triage system in so many ways . I have gone in by ambulance and was then seated in the waiting room for hours . No matter what you and your primary care physician decide it is up to a triage nurse . I have asked my Primary Care Physician to call ahead as I was to sick to sit in the ER all day . When you get to see an ER doctor it most certainly will not be attending Physician. The attending may sign your chart after you leave but do not expect a visit from the attending during your visit to the ER . Residents are utilized to make all the decisions. Never ever are you admitted to the Hospital. I was sent home twice after having a heart attack. It was days or even months latter that I found out that I had a heart attack. Urgent care maybe your best change unless you need a trauma surgeon. The ER is not worth your time .What makes this worse is your own Primary care physician has no say if you should be admitted or not . The ER has to be your worst choice in medical care for sure !

There is no excuse for a lack of empathy. I know that is something every single hospital works on with their employees. I know someone who works there, and he has shared with me the monumental efforts and training they do all the time on their core values, which includes a focus on empathy. It is important to remember what these people face every day. Many patients are abusive. ONLY police have a higher occurrence of intentional workplace violence and harm. Lots of people react with, well if they dont like it, they should quit. They are. We have never- not even during world wars had a greater shortage of healthcare workers. Especially nurses.Wait times are terrible. However, the number of people who financially cannot afford to pay for healthcare services make it very difficult to afford to expand services to cover the demands. However, the country as a whole does nothing to combat the epidemic of factors contributing to the creation or worsening of population health. Food that is terrible for you is often cheap, and filled with addictive fat, salt and sugar. We are at the crisis point with population health, and that is why systems like Vidant are urging us to start taking care of ourselves, instead of expecting them to do all the work of taking care of us.No health system is perfect. While some of my encounters with Vidant have been frustrating, the overwhelming majority have been incredibly positive. I wish they did a better job of advertising that they are a not for profit company, and talk about the hundreds of millions of dollars they have gifted to our communities.

The wait is freaking ridiculous. They need to make it bigger I guess cause all I hear is they waiting on beds.I understand they go by severity and there is an outpatient ED. But what if they are the ones that brought you to this place. I didnt even want to come here in the first place but I think my fiancé has a pinched nerve or something and can barely walk.

The wait is off the charts ridiculous. If its close to shift change, prepare for an extra hour before you are seen. The medical treatment and care from the physicians has fell tremendously over the years and all this place cares about is money; not its patients. The doctors are getting younger and arent able to properly diagnose people while everyone else is walking around laughing about a posted video or lunch. I wouldnt recommend this so called hospital to anyone I actually cared about. If I could give a negative I would

Got there at 2:30pm and they took my vitals.. they gave me some tylenol for my fever of 102 and escorted me back to the waiting room. I didnt get checked again till 6pm and that was for my second vitals.. my temperature was still high but they told me to go sit back down again.. They kept adding more people in front of me .. At this point it is 8pm. My mother called me at 10pm and asked me if i had been seen yet and i told her no. She asked me for their number and called the nurses station.. Just say she had a few words for them.. I was then finally given a room at 11:30 pm since being there at 2:30pm... When i got back to the room and they took my temperature i was at 105... If not for my mother I probably would still be waiting in the waiting room.. My experience was horrible and the nurses were very impatient and dismissive.. Would rather go to urgent care than emergency room again..

I was at vidant Emergency with my sister they did not have enough room so they allowed her to lay on the floor. The checkiNg deck people are rude I asked for change for a 5 so I could go to the vending machine. The lady replied Do it look like we have change up here I said well the card thing did not work her reply was that is a vending machine. She could have at least told me where to find change or simply replied I do not have change, but thank the Lord for some patients that was kind enough to make change for me. I pray that Vidant can get more room for patients so they will not have to lay on the floor or sit in pain long.

My father stayed in the emergency waiting room with 100% blocked arteries and at the door of death; and it has been over 8 hours now. They should rename the Emergency Room as Morgue instead, because you will be waiting an eternity before you are ever seen.

I had a wonderful experience when visiting the ER. I was treating kindly and with respect from the moment I arrived. They even moved me to the pediatric ER so that I could be seen quickly. Within an hour I had an X-ray and been seen by a dr. The nurses were also wonderful! When I returned from radiology, the ortho dr was waiting for me and assisted me promptly. I felt that the care was exceptional. Thank you to all the staff for being so helpful and compassionate.

They get 2 only because the nurse was nice. Wait times are inhumane especially when the place isnt even crowded. Was told I going to have a CT scan and then an ultrasound since I was suffering a massive gallbladder attack due to my previously diagnosed gallbladder disease. After waiting 8 hours with only minimum pain killer and anti-nasea medicine the ER doctor tells me there is nothing wrong with my gallbladder and its just enteritis so hes discharging me. No ultrasound, no follow up, still in pain. Sure, all the other doctors Ive seen over the past year and all the other test results must be wrong and the ER doctor knows whats up. Completely unprofessional and absurd. Luckily I already have a surgical consultation to remove my gallbladder. Very bad care.UPDATE:. My surgeon inferred the ER doctor was incompetent and that I displayed all the signs of classic massive gallbladder attack. Also said he should have done an ultrasound. Scheduled me for gallbladder removal next Thursday. Thanks Vidant Emergency Room for nothing. Horrible place and incompetent care. Revising rating down to one.

I cannot believe how this Hospital treats people. All the money they get from ECU, constantly building on to this Hospital and you treat emergency room patients as if they are nothing. I myself personally have sat in this emergency room twice for 4 to 5 hours to only be seen by a doctor for 2 seconds given Tylenol and exscorted out the door. I have literally watched one patient in such pain she could not stop moving in the wheelchair. I literally watch this patient wiggling from so much pain and crying for almost four hours. Myself, barely able to breathe and scared that I would stop breathing at any second had to sit there and watch while suffering myself. This last visit had me thinking, if someone was to just die in this waiting room. what would they do, continue making them wait in the lobby. Im pretty sure this has happened. something that could have been prevented. if Vidant even cared about their patients rich or poor they would stop sitting these patients in the waiting room to suffer for hours at a time . Im extremely upset because not only did this happen to me once but twice and from the reviews I see that it happens often. Since I know what to expect from this hospital, and youre going to have to wait, take your chances with WakeMed in Raleigh thats what Im doing from now on. if I can make it an hour away I will have someone take me an hour away. I will never go back to this Hospital, not even for a doctor visits. Im through with Vidant and all branches of Vidant.

Vidant e.r. front desk personnel and hospitality lady is all unprofessional. They have no compassion for patients & are very rude. People know that if you have no unsurance the hospital will try to screw you over. Went in for the pain I have in my knee waited for 5.5 hrs before they took me back waited another 2 hrs for the doctor (Jacques Emmanuel Denis, MD) to come in and look at my knee for a 3 minutes for him to tell me he wanted to do xrays which they already did. Clearly they dont communicate with each other he left to go view the xrays an hour later the supervising doctor (Susan Miller, MD) came to tell me that they basically cant tell me why my knee is hurting without an MRI which they dont do in the ER so I need to go elsewhere but to stay off my leg as I my make it worse. Obviously they dont care about the patients they are just more concerned about turnover or maybe they just dont know how to treat someone in pain without telling someone to go elsewhere

I see all these negative reviews I am sitting here in tears because on January 7 1987 2 nurses and 1 pilot left Greenville in flight to pick up an 3 month old patient. The left doing their jobs in hopes of saving a small beautiful little girl. Well they picked up their patient at O Camp Le June and headed back. Well they never made it back. So when I read are hear some of the complaints waiting too long for beds. And so many other small compaintts that some of the illnesses probably had been going on for days when primary care doctors. The nurses and doctors are doing their best sometimes under forwarded and overwhelming conditions. I will NEVER get to sit in ANY er and while I am waiting and COMPLAIN. Some things do warrant them but the Vidant Hospital I know tears people with love dignity and respect. I will even be trusting them hopefully to be doing a transplant in the summer.

If I could give this ER Dept. a negative 0, I would. This place is Un-sanitary, my sister’s nurse was Un- knowledgeable and the rest of the staff was just as bad. I saw a patient become so frustrated with the level of service, she threatened to beat the resident on duty along with a few nurses, she was thrown out but I can’t deny,,, I understand why she behaved in such a manner,,,. My sister had numerous test preformed, and some of the same test repeated without being informed of the results and why they needed to be repeated. My sister arrived by ambulance around 430 in the afternoon, dehydrated. An IV was finally placed in her arm 1100 that night, fluids was finally given around 2am, we were told repeatedly that she was dehydrated,, why in the world would you wait so long to push fluids!!!! We asked several times to speak with the Dr... 3:38 am the Dr still hasn’t shown... Praying another emergency doesn’t arise but if it does she’ll take her chances at another facility. Tri-Care will be billed for nothing!!!!!

The nurse was rude and the supervisor was just as bad! WE were told sorry its nothing they could do about it, Magically after fussing with both of them and telling them we were otw back up there we live an hour away...by the time we got there he was in a room at 11:00 last night! My 5 day stay turned into a horrible experience. You are treated like a Lab Rat. I was there for Chest Pain, shortness of Breath plus an upper Respiratory Infection. I was in an Observation Unit. No Bathroom or Window in the Room. I have had 64 lab tests in 5 days. I also had a cardio stress test. One doctor said there is something wrong with my heart, the other said there was not. My blood sugar was also out of control therefore in my opinion my lactic acid was pretty high. Everytime blood was drawn to check my Lactic Acid Level I had the Emergency Response Team come to my room within 20 minutes to make sure that I was okay. I explained to them that it is a great possibility that my lactic acid is so high because my blood sugar is out of control. On day 3 I ask the doctor to add Lantus to my sliding scale insulin at first it was denied with the explanation that the lactic acid is not Rising due to the uncontrolled blood sugar but later on that evening I received my first dose of Lantus. The next day my lactic acid was normal. Every vein in both of my arms top and bottom were blown. They had to call down vascular to find a vein with the assistance of ultrasound . I was scheduled for two more tests which have never been done. The care in this Hospital even some of the nurses is ridiculous. They are just there for one thing which is a paycheck. They have too many interns and residents to take care of one patient because every Intern or Resident has a different opinion. I cannot recollect how many Doctors Student Interns Residents I have seen during my 5-day stay. On day number 5 I have decided to leave this three ring circus and find myself a cardiologist in Durham at Duke Medical Center. So far it is going pretty good and he also agrees that there is something wrong with my heart we just have to figure out what it is. Vidant maybe a level 1 Trauma Center but I have no clue how they have gotten this title. Unfortunately if there was something really wrong with me at this point in time I would not have a choice between hospitals. Vidant is the only choice. They need to start making some drastic changes. If you can find a specialist somewhere else I highly recommend to you that you take the opportunity even though it will be a two-hour Drive. My Diagnosis per my Cardiologist is Microvascular Coronay Disease AKA small vessel Disease.

I can not understand how the ED department can make a patient sit and wait 7 hours before being seen. It boggles my mind. In all the years I have gone to ERs this one is one of the worse. I have insurance and I have to sit for 7hours. I have watched people get up and leave because they are not getting the care they need. Also being called out of turn as my family member sits in pain. Just so wrong. They should take a hard look at there ED department and change things.
