While I can’t call this a “great” experience it was relatively smooth considering…My Golden Retriever had a blockage due to him eating some plastic chew toy. Waited 3.5 hours to get my dog seen, given antibiotics, and charged $300. Which in of itself isnt bad - its the blatant money grabbing. My dog was there with difficulty breathing, weakness , coughing, no appetite, unable to tolerate walking very far. Doctor assumed most likely a type of pneumonia. But the tests and oral antibiotics would have cost $1600.He also recommended staying overnight, with oxygen and for observation. I agreed... Until I saw the amount. $2900 for an overnight stay! This is in the middle of a pandemic and I understand the vet also needs to pay the bills, but thats just exorbitant.I politely declined and asked to just get the antibiotics , which they agreed after a bit of pushing. To be fair, the nurses and techs were lovely. Doctor was fine, but the first thing he said when he saw my dog was shes looking a little dumpy, which ... While hilarious is not appropriate.Ill be taking my dog to my vet tomorrow. Im glad they exist for emergencies - but use them only then as your pocket book might never forgive you.

Everyone (the front staff, Vet techs and the Vet herself) were AWESOME!!! I had to take my 11-month old kitten in because he was very ill. He had an upper-respiratory infection and his right eye was infected as well. In addition, he is about 80% blind due to two (2) previous eye infections when he was a young kitten.I REALLY appreciated the compassion and kindness with which my kitten was treated!!Also, it was VERY clear that they were more interested in helping my pet recover quickly than milking me for all the money they could possibly get from me.When my husband came to pick us up, they offered him the opportunity to come back into the Exam Room too. They even emailed me a copy of my kittens records from his visit there. I printed it up and placed it in his file.If/when needed, we will go back. Thank you!

The worse service you can expect from a business. They did not show a bit of compassion when I brought my pet in pain. They made me wait for more than 5 hours in a room. Every time I asked when the vet will see my pet, all they did was to say it will be soon. What a lack of service and compassion.

Worst place to ever take you’re pet. One of the ladies up front that works on the afternoons that sits on the right side when you walk in is seems as if she doesn’t know what she is doing. The doctor tells me to make a payment upfront so they can get started so i go upfront & tell her that I’m going to make a payment & she replies huh? I said the doctor told me to make a payment so they can get started & her reply was huh? & switches her head to the other side with her mouth wide open looking all lost. every time time I went up to her she said huh? As if she expected me to know what she is supposed to do. Never will I ever take my pet there and the one on kings canyon nearby McCall behind the 711 store. I went late on Sunday night called ahead and let them know we were on our way, once we got there they took us right away. Even though I had to let my baby girl go the staff was extremely professional and caring and very sympathetic. They let me spend as much time as I needed with my girl before I had to say my final goodbye. They also gave an imprint of her paw. I also just received a card that the staff signed I love that they took the time to do that. I would definitely recommend them for any emergency for your pets.

Staff and doctors lack basic compassion, empathy and any other human emotions towards animals in need. I brought a dying dog that was found left to die on a corner. They refused to help the poor animal and literally walked away as I was trying to explain the dog’s needs. They refuse to accept a “Good Samaritan” surrender, claiming the animal was not in need of emergency care, although she has a bleeding open tumor with multiple open sores hanging from her stomach. I will never take one of my pets to this place, they are about one thing and one thing only, money! You would think with their over priced services they would have the heart to help at least one animal that was abandon and has no one to pay for her emergency medical needs, but they refused to help her. They wouldn’t even examine her properly to check how much pain and discomfort an elderly abandoned and injured dog needed. Avoid this place, I understand they are a business, but the extent of their greed is unbelievable and disgusting. These people take an oath (they should) or I would think enter this profession to help animals, but it’s evident that this business is not in it to help animals. Stay away!

Kathy at Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center was very rude and abrupt when I called to inquire about their services for my injured dog. Kathy has no compassion to be working in the veterinary field. In my opinion when you work in this field you need to have some compassion for those individuals that are concern for their beloved animals. I am thankful that I did not take my dog to this facility. Who knows what kind of treatment my dog that can not speak would have received. It all starts in front the gate keeper!

Nothing but terrible experiences here. First took my cat here by referral for diagnostics. Thousands of dollars later he was diagnosed with IBD. They recommend coming in once a week.for B12 shots, and that was it. I continued to do that, watching my kitty waste away and get sicker. Eventually made an appointment for a home euthanasia because I couldnt stand to see him suffering. The home vet examined him and talked to me about what his treatment had been. She was shocked. She recommended I take him to a vet she knew, and ask about a prednisolone RX. Its been almost 3 years and my beautiful kitty is doing so well. I would have lost him due to this place with their greed and incompetence.Another bad experience. I had to take my other kitty here because once a month they host a guest vet from the bay area who is a cardiologists. The cardiologist was great, ended up getting a few RXs for kittys heart condition. A few weeks later kitty started having issues with one of the meds. I called this place to get contact info for the cardiologist to get advice on possibly taking him off the medication. This place flat out refused to give me the vets contact information (Im talking about the number for his bay area practice not like I was asking for his personal cell number) and told me to leave a message that they would give to his liaison to call me back. Never got a call back. I ended up having to talk to a pharmacist about what to do about stopping the meds. Unacceptable.A few weeks later kitty was jaundice and had to go to the ER. The vet at the ER asked me to get in contact with the vet who RXd the heart meds because of some of the questions I had. Again called this place, and they refused to give me the cardiologists information. Again was told to leave a message for the liaison. Again I was never called back. The ER vet couldnt believe it. I am beyond angry.Avoid this place at all costs. All they care about is making money. Avoid avoid avoid.

They gave her fluids and sent me home with antibiotics and pain medication after showing me how to administer them. I was expecting a much higher bill since this was an emergency, but it was $240 which I felt was reasonable. When we got her home 4 hours later, she was like a new cat and ready to eat. Thank you, docs and techs! They were really slow which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5, and I know Covid likely contributed to that, but I am thankful for their help.Pic is of my Buttersocks after we brought her home. We took one of our cats here when he was very sick and dehydrated and near death. The first thing they should have done was to give him fluids. Instead, they wanted to charge us well over $1,000 to keep him overnight and run a variety of tests, etcetera without doing anything to help him immediately. The examination rooms did not have full walls to close off germs from other animals, which made us uneasy. We didnt feel good about leaving our cat in their care. We took our cat home and held him overnight and immediately took him to our regular vet the next morning. The first thing our vet did was to get fluids in our cat. Thank God, our cat is healthy and doing well thanks to the care he received from our regular veterinarian. I dont recommend this place for emergencies.

I willingly agreed to these charges to ensure the safety of my dog, however, the next day he got worse. I came back in, AS THEY TOLD ME TO, and was told there was no doctor available. Unbelievable response from the guy in the front office. A stray cat walked up to our front door this morning, super skinny and beaten up. We gave him food and water and later decided to take him in to an emergency vet. Thought this place would be good because it’s close to our house and we were in a hurry. However, when we got there, instead of looking at the car and seeing what’s wrong with him and what they need to do, the first thing this guy says is “let me check if he has a microchip.” He comes back and says “there’s no microchip and we can’t do anything because he’s vicious.” I could not believe how irresponsible his response was. Imagine a person going to an ER that’s close to dying and instead of immediately helping them, they ask for his ID and if he doesn’t have one they just say “oh go take him to another hospital.” Absolutely unbelievable. Never been this shocked by someone being so irresponsible in my life.

This cardiologist comes monthly so it is hard to see him. I called and have never been able to speak to him. The office itself gave me the run around about filling the meds. Said I didn’t fill out the prescription request. Even when I sent them the proof from the email confirmation of the request, they never apologized or filled my dogs medication. Really disappointed with the service i was given in my last 3 visits (all with separate and different pets). Took my dog in for a serious injury and was given 3-5mins of dr. White’s time. With no compassion or consideration we were thrown some pain pills and told go home. When i asked for gold standard treatment meaning i was willing to spend the money i was denied. Dr. White gave me none of his time blew me off and sharply said no. I felt and still do feel it was truly a disservice to me and my pet. He told me tk him somewhere else for another opinion but he was NOT doing imaging. Yet STILL said go home IF the dog worsens THEN bring him bk and see about imaging. When i didnt want to waste the time i couldnt see the point of “wait and see”. Either way we went home. Dr. White is the only vet in fresno/local for that matter that has the equipment needed and the only vet who proforms the services we potentially needed. I have spent over 10k on one dog alone at this facility in the past 5yrs. Collectively i have probably spent close to double that for all our family dogs. I have always been a good client and patient. Never have i felt so dismissed and vulnerable by a vet. My dog could potentially lose the ability to walk and i could potentially have quality of life decisions to make on his behalf should this be the case. I have had another dog of mine scanned with the same imaging technology i am asking for now and was completely disheartened by my recent visit. I was rushed out the door. Treated rudely, and given no useful advice. When i was told what warning signs to bring him bk in on i called on the 3rd day as told because my dog was exhibiting these very signs. The tech didnt offer to relay my msg to ANY vet on duty. I was told dr.white wasnt in and wouldn’t be for about 4 days and when i explained how none of this made sense because why then would i be told to wait and see initially she got rude with me and said if i didnt like it i was free to NOT comeBack and i could take my dog to uc davis. The lack of consideration and her insensitivity floored me i said thank you and goodbye. Horrible. I dont know if the pandemic has put stress on an already stressful environment or if the service and humanity has just declined there or if treating animals and their owners with dignity has just went out the window. Thats for those if us who have the money to spend., i can’t imagine the disrespect for someone without the means being told “you dont have to come here of you dont like it, go to uc davis”... just awful. I will NEVER be back and i will pray i NEVER have a pet who sustains the specific injuries that only dr. White and his equipment can treat., where our options might once again be “if you dont like it here go to uc davis”. Just ugly. No thanks and no help.

She was pleasant to talk to over the phone that night when we spoke following the surgery.Lucy’s recovery has been less than ideal, (no fault of the vet or the clinic, Lucy is just a finicky eater which made dispensing her meds impossible,) so we had to go back in on Friday for some extra help (SC fluids, anti nausea meds, a pain injection, and an oral medication change.)I have no words to express my gratitude to the staff that work here, from the receptionists, to the vet techs and the vets themselves, all of whom were patient, professional, and friendly. Going through this experience has been exhausting, stressful, sad, and generally upsetting, and my anxiety has been through the roof. This meant I definitely called/texted for reassurance on multiple occasions... to the point that one of the receptionists (shout out to Nicole!) and I were on a first name basis, and I think Nicole had my number memorized and was recognizing it on the caller ID, haha. But she was always so kind and patient, just like everyone else. You’ll see some reviews that mention the cost and the wait time. Listen... this is an emergency service and that means it’s going to be expensive and that also means it works like a regular ER in the sense that they have to triage and treat their patients in order of who is in the most dire situation. That means you’re probably going to wait and that means you’re going to pay for the service. Thankfully, I have pet insurance on my dog and she was covered. (I highly recommend Spot Pet Insurance as well!) Regardless, the financial aspect of emergency services for a pet is stressful and you need to be prepared that it’s going to cost a lot. The good news is they quote you on the high end so that you (hopefully) end up getting money back. In my case, I actually got a good chunk back. For what it’s worth, I have a friend who is a vet in SoCal (but she did her undergrad at Fresno State and has family in Fresno,) and she was great about counseling me through this whole experience... and also made sure to tell me that she’d only ever heard good things about this clinic. I would also add that if you look at the reviews of people who have (unfortunately,) had to euthanize their pets at this clinic, those reviews are all positive and speak to the staff’s compassion. I think it speaks volumes about a business when someone who frequents it for the worst possible reason has positive things to say about it.Thank you again to all the kind staff who work here for your grace, patience, and for saving my sweet girl’s life. You were all awesome, but I hope I never have to see any of you again. :)

My little love (Charlie) is there today after being injured by another dog. The staff was just wonderful. Its so stressful and scary when youre in this kind of situation. Having a kind knowledgeable staff that are able to reassure and help you cope is critical. I was on the verge of falling apart and I felt so supported! Thank you to every single staff member there. My little guy is the love of my life so this means everything to me.

After taking my puppy to another local 24 hr vet hospital where I was charged $500 and nothing was done for my puppy besides x-rays. My puppy was still in pain and needless to say I was disappointed. I phoned Fresno Vet the following morning they immediately got out puppy in and provided great care to him. I highly recommend Dr. White and his team.

Our experience with Fresno Veterinary was traumatic and embittering. We brought my four-year-old dog with an obstruction. The late night Vet callously implied that euthanasia might be best. While she granted a surgery would save my dogs life, she concentrated on potential complications. We should have listened to our gut and to our dogs gut. With the deepest remorse for our pet, we admit we went ahead and trusted this vet, plunking down $5 Grand. She did the surgery and later that morning claimed it was a success. When we picked up our dog, we were shocked to see an incision from throat to tail on belly. He was in so much pain. Within the first day, we could clearly see his distress. We called and spoke with another vet. He acted annoyed. He said this was a major surgery and we couldnt expect our dog to bounce back too soon. He said we should go to our regular vet now. On the evening of the second day, we could see his abdomen starting to swell. We called again and expressed our alarm to a tech who promised to talk to the vet and call us back if he felt there was any cause for concern. No return call. Early that morning, our dog was now bloated and in excruciating pain. This time we decided to go to our regular vet. She examined our dog and said he was hopelessly toxic. If we had got him to her sooner, we could have saved him. We mercifully put him down. The callous and cavalier attitude of the vets at Fresno Veterinary only deepened the pain of losing our beloved dog. We took the vet to small claims court. Shockingly, she threw our regular vet under the bus, accusing our vet of incompetence in assessing our dogs needs -- and if we had brought our dog back to Fresno Veterinary they would have certainly saved him. I tell all my family and friends, if they love their dogs, to never ever go to this place. They have lost their way.

Good doctors and friendly staff. I had to take my cat for emergency late at night because she kept vomiting. All staff were very gentle and helpful, and the dr listened my situation attentively and gave me good advice and suggestions. My cat looked much better right after given some medications and IV fluids.

If money isnt an issue then go here... if it is an issue just wait until your regular vet is open. got there at 9pm and left at 1am just to be told that it would be 1.4k just for an xray and to put him under. they also said we would need to drive to LA for surgery when there are some in fresno....

I called to get help with my cat, they kept me on hold forever, then proceeded to tell me that their DR would be in surgery all day and pretty much they would not be able to help me. What the hell kind of emergency Vet are you that you only staff one DR and dont care about other pets that need help!! I do not recommend this place, they are rude and inconsiderate.

I am super glad there are emergency places to take our beloved pets. With that said, this place wants only one thing from you and thats your money. They sincerely could care less about your pet. Dropped a grand for my 16 year old dachshund that was in pain due to a deteriorating back condition. We thought we had enough tramadol from a past Vet visit, but realized 5 days after that we didnt have as much as we thought. When I called to get some more I was told that I would have to bring him in again to get meds because the Doctor who saw him wouldnt be back till Tuesday and they have strict protocol for controlled medications. So evidently the current vet couldnt be bothered to look at the chart and prescribe a refill? No he or she needed us to bring our dog, who needs to stay still and rest, back in so they could make an extra buck. Sadly emergency vet care is probably one of the most money grubbing businesses you can be in these days. How are common people supposed to take good care of their animals when places like this are literally taking the food out of their family members mouths? $1,000 for 1 visit an x-ray & bloodwork.

They say they are a 24 hour emergency center. Took my cat in at 12:40pm on a Thursday afternoon and was told there wouldnt be a Dr. available until 6:00pm. Good thing my cat wasnt dying. Although, he did have a bad ear infection.False advertising, they are not a 24 hour service.

Dont go unless you see Dr. White and ask if he is there before going, other than that plan on wasting your time and money. We waited 4hrs and got nothing out of the Dr we saw to even consider staying there another minute. The over 1000$ bill to get our pet help wasnt in consideration. WE LEFT! Lucky we got an opening with our vet the next morning. The bill was less than half of what this doctor quoted us and it took her 45 minutes just to get that.

I have taken two of my puppies here one was 8 months, she had very bad lumps all over her body. Lacy vet told us it could be cancer & to take her to an emergency room to get a second opinion. We took her here & They said it was only an infection and would be able to recover within 1-2 weeks. In less than that time she couldn’t stand on her own or even eat. She lost so much of her energy.I took my second puppy 2 months old in. With suspected parvo but he was still eating and still had plenty of strength. We payed for the sub dermal iv fluids- so he could get rehydrated. They used the absolute minimum amount of iv fluid possible. He died 1 day later. Also, we later discovered the medication they prescribed him was not supposed to be given to young puppies. So that might have played a significant part in the outcome. I am 0 for 2 when bringing pets to be treated here and cannot in good conscience recommend or advise anyone to ever bring their beloved pets here under any circumstances. If I could give zero stars I would if you love your pets as much as I love mine, please.... go somewhere else.

I cant say enough good things about our experience with Dr. Katherine Burt. My husband and I brought our senior chihuahua, Louie, here on 4/7/2020 around 5AM because he suddenly was having a lot of trouble breathing.Unfortunately we had to have him euthanized because the damage to his heart was extensive, beyond repair, and he was suffering. He was also rapidly declining and the medication was not working despite our hopes that it would. Ive never had to make a harder decision in life than putting down my best friend of 11 years. We had to make this choice quickly as he was declining rapidly and we didnt want him to suffer any longer.I cant imagine going through what we went through that night without her guidance and compassion.Dr. Burt was kind, empathetic, and extremely knowledgeable. She is the kind of doctor that is undeniably in the right profession and this hospital is lucky to have her. I know my sweet little guy was in gentle, confident hands and despite him not making it that day, I can find peace knowing that he had the very best staff caring for him from the moment we walked in to when we held him as he passed away. There are situations in life where you need the very best person to make the very worst kind of situation in life, bearable. Dr. Burt was that person for us and she helped us navigate confidently through an unspeakably difficult moment in our lives.I dont typically write too many reviews but I felt compelled to because of the impact she had on us as well as us being truly thankful that we had her as our veterinarian. I know there are other reviews on here complaining about the cost but to that Id like to say: This is an EMERGENCY center, not a primary care veterinarians office. The cost is going to be a lot higher here because, well, its for emergencies and they arent going to be cheap in most cases. Ive never felt bullied, pressured, or forced into any unnecessary treatment options by anyone and Ive been here multiple times over the years with other pets. Wed all like it to cost $20 bucks to save our animals and have exceptional service at the same time but thats unrealistic. While I hope that I dont have to return anytime soon, if any of my other animals are ever having some kind of emergency, I wouldnt hesitate at all in taking them here to see Dr. Burt again in the future.

I brought my guinea pig here late last night after noticing he wasn’t eating, drinking or moving around. He’s a senior piggy so his health is getting concerning. They told me they weren’t fully equipped to handle exotic pets, depending on the issue, but they took him in nonetheless. Today, he’s moving around a lot more and I’m syringe feeding him. He is looking much better!Yes, like everyone says, it’s expensive but it’s an emergency clinic so naturally it will be since they are open any time of day for YOUR pet’s convenience, especially if you have exotics like guinea pigs. The clinic near my house said they weren’t taking in any new exotic pets, so it was nice to go here and not be turned away.
