I was admitted to Windcrest nursing home for rehab yesterday. While the staff was pleasant the room reeked of urine, there was water dripping from the ceiling, mold and the rusted through fixtures in the bathroom. The beds are decades old. I couldn’t even stand one night there and left.

I have worked at this facility since 2012. I have an awesome Rehab Team! We have wonderful and caring Nursing Team! Rehab and Nursing work very closely to make sure our residents have the best possible care whether they are here for rehab and go home or they live with us.AND WE ARE COVID FREE!!! We have worked and continue to work at keeping our residents free of COVID.

Recently I was admitted to Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg for rehabilitation after breaking a hip. I was very well pleased with the care and treatment I received. The entire staff from top to bottom was professional, friendly, and caring. The program for rehabilitation was planned and administered by well trained therapists and nurses. I consider myself fortunate to have been in the care of these people during my rehabilitation..

What a nice facility, the residents seem happy and there is a lot of long term staff, many with over 5 years, more close to ten years, several have 15 or more and one with 21 years.

I know this is long, but if you are considering Windcrest for yourself or your family, I promise it’s worth reading:It was such an awful experience for my elderly father, and for our family.•Our dad was placed on hospice after a short time at Windcrest, and they called in Hill Country Hospice without offering any other options. When we decided our first choice would actually be Alamo hospice and chose to transfer care to Alamo, Windcrest denied them entry into the building, despite CMS guidelines stating all facilities should make reasonable accommodations for hospice staff. They advised that they would continue to allow Hill Country Hospice staff if we switched back, but not Alamo Hospice. We were then advised that the Windcrest doctor would be dropping care of my dad unless we switched back to Hill Country Hospice. After months of residing at Windcrest, the first time we heard from the actual Administrator (*see explanation below) was when he called the family pressuring us to switch back to Hill Country Hospice. We are aware the Windcrest doctor is also the Director at Hill Country Hospice, so the double-dipping seems to be the reason for this and it’s appalling that money is so blatantly first for this facility, before compassion and patient care.•They added HIV as a diagnosis to my dad’s records, which he did not have (we didn’t even know of this until the facility we transferred him to called to inform us. They were able to confirm that he did not have it).•We were also constantly getting calls that my dad had fallen. When I say constantly, I mean there was one morning we received a call letting us know he had already fallen twice that morning. The last time he fell at this facility they FINALLY sent him to the hospital for to determine injuries, and it was discovered that he had a small brain bleed and scans showed he was recovering from multiple previous injuries (broken wrist, broken ribs, etc). We transferred him out of Windcrest THAT DAY, and have yet to receive a call from the new facility about any falls.•When we transferred dad out, he told us some of the ill treatment he received and we were shocked. He said he hadn’t told us before for fear of retaliation by some staff. He hasn’t had a single complaint at the new facility and our hearts are broken at the fact that we allowed him to stay at Windcrest for so long.•Despite providing a notarized Power of Attorney document, they continued to list (and call) a POA contact person that was NOT on the document. My sister let them know a couple times that this needed to be addressed, but when the new facility called us about the records Windcrest had sent them, they let us know Windcrest STILL had the this other person listed as the POA.Other issues:•Lack of proper communication - my dad’s phone was lost, eye glasses missing, and clothing missing but we often would not find out until we came for a window visit. We noticed during our window visits that the clothing my dad was wearing was not his own.•Also, we spoke several times to a man that identified himself as the Administrator each time. However, when the actual Administrator contacted us prior to transferring my dad out, we discovered the other man was not, and had never been, Administrator. To this day, I have no idea who that man was.I’m sure I’m missing other important issues, but my family is taking steps to ensure Windcrest does not continue to skate under the radar and make horrendous errors in care and judgment. Until the day comes that they answer for what they’ve done, I will continue to do everything in my power to warn others of this place.

If you are looking for a great place for your family member Windcrest is that place!!! During this difficult time of COVID the staff work tirelessly to keep their residents from coming in contact with the virus. They also take on the role of family since family is not allowed at this time. They comfort the residents and wipe their tears!!! Through the exhaustion they keep a smile on their faces. This is an especially difficult time for the residents with dementia. My mother in law is a resident at Windcrest and has Dementia and I am amazed at how the staff are able to comfort her during this time...she can be a handful and stubborn and they work hard to keep her healthy and happy. The administrator at Windcrest takes pride in getting to know each resident there. He spends time with each one daily and can tell you what they like and don’t like. Yes as in any nursing home there are residents that are more difficult...behaviors, falls, etc, which has become exacerbated during this time, and of course there will be families that don’t understand the whole situation but the staff are there everyday working hard to take care of each and everyone and put smiles on the faces of our loved ones when we can’t be there!!!!!

Everyone has been so friendly. No one wants to go to a nursing facility but if you have to go to one, Windcrest is the place. The staff is great. The food is fair. The rehab team is super. I’d recommend it to anyone that needs a nursing facility.

Think twice before sending a parent here. Staff misrepresent themselves to family members, nurses and cnas treat their dementia residents horribly (my father in laws phone wasnt hung up so we got to hear exactly how they speak to residents and it was dispicable). My father in law barely left thier facility alive. He fell constantly, and after his last fall that resulted in a hospital visit and a brain bleed, we were able to get him removed. If this place is your only choice id highly recommend a nanny cam.

Every one was so good to me. Especially the nurses and nurse aides. You have an extraordinary staff.I did have a lot of problems with communications with the head of different offices. It was very hard to get to talk to them. When my doctor said I could go home I was told Chuck would take care of every thing but he did not. I had to run down every one that needed to know about my discharge. It was hard because I had just had surgery for a broken hip. Then I was told I would not be charged for the last 4 days I was there. I even had to sign a form from medicare so I would not have to pay. The day I went home we got told we do have to pay for those days. I called them about it and was told they had mistaken what they told me. This made me very angry because we used any extra money we had for the medical equipment I needed at home.Just remember the therapists and nursing staff were the best I had ever seen.It was mainly 1 man that got everything messed up. I would go there again if I ever had to

The 5 stars are are very well deserved in this place. I’m from Oklahoma and I’ve been here twice, and I chose this place because it’s the best in Fredericksburg. They treat you like family. The staff is very professional. They have the best help especially the nurses and the aides. The administrator is very active and visits the residents often. I would recommend Windcrest to everyone.

I have been the business office manager at Windcrest since 2013 and absolutely love working here. This is a fun environment and my coworkers share the same beliefs that I do: our patients and residents come first. We have the BEST therapy department and so many people discharge from us only to return when they need more therapy. Our administrator and DON are very personable and show the utmost concern and respect to coworkers and residents/patients.

I came in to Windcrest Rehab Center last Tues. after having hip surgery on Mon. My experience here has been the absolute BEST!! Ive been in medical facilities before that have been less than adequate. I must say this one is MORE than adequate!! This is during COVID and they were more than ready to deal with that situation. The helpers, which here includes everyone, from the administrator to the CNAs!! If you need something, whoever is available will be in to help!! Everyone is cheerful, sweet and so willing to help with whatever your need is!! And this includes the therapists as well! The PT, OT, PTAs and COTAs are the best! Very professional and knowledgeable!! The room is very pleasant, light and always clean!! And the food is not only edible, its actually tasty!! It tastes like you would make for yourself at home!! The bed is the most comfortable institutional bed I have ever slept in!! Ive always hated hospital beds, where the sheets dont stay put, its too narrow, too high, too low, etc. This bed is perfect!! Its wider, sheets always stayed in place, I could raise not only the head and knees, but the bed itself to get it to the best height from the floor for me! The most unfortunate thing for me is that I do not live in this area! I actually live in WA state and just happened, fortunately for me to be here when I discovered that I needed a new hip. This has been such a wonderful experience that Im sure if I ever need another new joint I will come to Fredericksburg, Texas to get it. The best joint replacement doctors and the best inpatient rehab are here!! So if you find that you could use a new joint and you happen to have an RV, come to Fredericksburg, TX to Hill Country Orthopedic Clinic and Windcrest Rehabilitation Center!! If you dont have an RV, you might just want to rent one!! They are that good here!!

Facility offers excellent rehab care with knowledgeable therapist and staff. The nursing care is good with well qualified staff. The rooms are comfortable with an excellent housekeeping department. The administrator is very “hands on “ and personably involved with daily function, knows every resident by name and interacts well with the staff. The only negative is the same with all long term care facilities...the food is not like home. However the dietary department tries to work with the resident in offering alternatives.

Wonderful place for anyone with Skilled Nursing needs. Out father is on his second stay and I can’t say enough good things about Windcrest. Craig, Director, is ‘hands on’ and always available for family members. Chuck, Social Worker, keeps all family members involved and in the loop. Travis, Nurse, is super caring and really does have a bond with his patients. If you have someone needing Skilled Nursing Care in the Fredericksburg area Windcrest Nursing & Rehab is THE ONLY place to go in my opinion.

I have worked in the long term care industry my entire career focusing on compliance and assisting troubled facilities in establishing systems that exceed industry standards and meet regulatory requirements. That being said, I can be very critical but fair with my evaluations of facilities. My father has been a resident at Windcrest for a year. There were several facilities to choose from in the community but it was not a difficult decision to make for placement. Although my father would much rather be home, the Windcrest staff have gone over and above in accommodating his needs, pacing with his personality and creating an environment that is safe, clean and welcoming. The Corporation may have its challenges, but this facility has a great caring staff that takes the time to get to know each resident and addresses issues when they arise. This facility is not perfect, and they do make mistakes, but in my observation when a mistake is made, they immediately find a resolution and make changes to ensure that mistake is not made again.Thank you Windcrest staff for doing what you do so well!

Whether your there for short stay rehab, long term care, or just need some extra TLC for a few weeks the Windcrest team will help make your stay feel as close to home as possible. They offer daily rehab for their orthopedic patients, along with offering skilled rehab for their long term patients also. Some of the Windcrest team have been caring for our Fredericksburg loved ones for over 20 years. They are GREAT about anticipating the needs of their patients, making the facility feel as much like home as possible, and helping them accomplish their goals. There is never a dull moment at Windcrest with their Administration team!! The Administator & DON are always finding new ways for their patients and staff to have fun and celebrate!!

My 82 year old mother has had two strokes and four severe falls. She is from Oklahoma and I live in Fredericksburg. I brought her from St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa to Windcrest. She has been in Windcrest for two separate injuries and I could not have been more happy with her rehabilitation and care. It is very difficult to know what facility to put a loved one in because you hear so many horrible stories about how elderly are treated. Windcrest treats their patients as if they were family whether they are temporary or permanent. Their nurses, nurses aide’s, administrative staff, and excellent physical therapists are vigilant about caring for their patient. You will see the director visiting patients rooms and often serving lunch in the dining room. I could not have placed my mother in a better facility. I would like to give a “shout out” to the following people for going over and beyond for my mother; Travis, Katy, Samantha, Heather, Sanessa, Valery, Carolyn, Monica, Amber, Vanessa, Cole, Sherri, Craig, along with many others. I could not be more grateful!!!!
