Thank you for referring me to Dr. Cantu as a GP. I moved to the hill country recently and was looking for new medical providers. I was able to set up an appointment with Dr. Cantu quickly, and he took his time discussing past medical issues as well as just getting to know each other. I feel comfortable having him as my primary caregiver.

While traveling back home to Austin I became ill and had to stop at the ER. The staff was friendly, welcoming, professional and super attentive. My nurse, Trent, and PA, James C., took great care of me so that I could get back on the road. I never expected to land in the ER while traveling home but am so grateful that HCM was close by and provided such amazing care.

I was a recent patient under the care of Dr. Seale (sp). I cannot begin to describe the level of proficiency, compassion, and time he and his team exhibited. I have never had such a wonderful experience in any industry I have been a service recipient. The nursing, CNAs, nutrition, and social work staff were outstanding. As a corporate executive, communication is always a challenge. Somehow, it was if everyone I interfaced with had the same information and were in concert in my treatment. There is something special happening at this hospital and I am eternally grateful to have been a patient.

Absolutely shameful billing practices. My wife went in for her annual checkup and HCMH did her lab work because doctor’s office no longer draws blood. We have very good insurance with Aetna and were hit with a $1000 out of pocket bill from HCMH. Called their billing department and was told that there was nothing they could do to make the bill more reasonable. I recommend using Labcorp or just shop around because HCMH believes they have the right to rip off their customers. They basically have a license to steal.

One, yes they are very nice and friendly. Im sad to say the doctor who treated my husband either not a real doctor or he just didnt care. My husbands face was so swollen it looked like a rattle snake bit him. The doctor couldnt see any swelling, so I wonder if he was blind. The hospital did blood work and a CT scan. After the test came back he just sent my husband home with a few antibiotics. Later that night I say 3 hours later, we ended up going to hospital in Kerrville, they ended up keeping him for a few days and performed surgery from the infection in his face. I do not recommend this hospital, might haven been just a bad doctor.

What a joke! Mail box is full. Can’t speak to your doctor’s office, can’t get a refill, can’t speak to anyone to get anything accomplished. Can’t speak to the doctor on call. So extremely disappointed in their interference between patients and doctors. HCMH screws up every medical record, then it takes months to get it straightened out again. Paws off if you don’t know the patient or the doctor. No care. Priority 1 gets you to the bottom of the list, or the do not call list. I’ve seen this go downhill ever since COVID & now dragging down all the fabulous doctors by not letting the patients contact their doctor. HCMH must screw up/ruin everything.

On 9/12 I rushed my gf to this hospital as we were staying in Fredericksburg from out of town. She was in extreme pain, crying and doubling over. When we get to the ER to check in, it was pretty evident she was in a lot of pain and could hardly walk. Instead of taking her in to get the checks started, she’s told to wait and I was told to wait in my car. We’re from out of town and had no one else but each other and she was scared. She was the only person in the ER waiting room at this time. After a while she asked what the waiting time was going to be and the nurse said she’d go check. The nurse comes back and doesn’t say anything to her. My gf again asks what the waiting time is and she is told by the nurse, very rudely, that the ER was at capacity and she didn’t know how long it would be.She walked out and I rushed her to Baylor in Llano, where we were seen immediately and found out she had appendicitis. Which could get pretty serious if it goes untreated or it ruptures. The caretakers at that facility were so helpful and caring! It was worth the drive there for sure sureI feel the professionalism and training at Hill Country Memorial is lacking. An RN should’ve been able to conclude that my gf wasn’t just there because of some “abdominal pain” the lady at check in literally saw her double over in pain. The lack of any empathy and sympathy with a full dose of apathy we experienced here, makes me feel lucky that we don’t live here and that Hill Country Memorial is not our local hospital.

I was one of the fortunate persons to reach the Covid Registration site on 1/25/21. I was able to secure an appointment time, complete the registration and submit to Hill Country. When I had not received confirmation of my appointment within 24 hours, I started attempting to find someone that could/would confirm my appt date and time as well as tell me where I was to go to receive the vaccine.I called the listed number for registration no fewer than a dozen times, in addition to busy signals, I got a message that my call did not go through. When I was able to get your recorded message I left no fewer than 3-4 calls asking for appt confirmation. I also left 4-5 voice mails at the posted information/question number. I let 1/2 dozen text messages. I left 2 voice mails for the Covid Project Manager. I have left my phone/text and email information at each attempt to reach someone. All with absolutely NO responses. My online assigned appointment was for today 1/28 at 12:45, As I have had no confirmation of that appointment I have chosen to remain at home and hope that I have not missed out on the opportunity to receive the vaccine. I felt that was better than turning up among a crowd and being turned away.I know that this was a busy and stressful time for all of you but it would not have taken 30sec to return a call, type a text or email to let me know what action I should take.I am qualified as a 1B patient. This is why I have given your organization a 1 star review and hope that my experience is not the norm.Sheila Nelson

Today I begged this hospital to let me pay the same amount that they would accept from Medicare so that I could pay them in full for my surgery and they refused. I was informed that it was illegal for them to do so even though I am uninsured. I offered 10% over Medicare and was still refused. My only options are to pay 12k (which is a discount of 30%) over time or pay 7500 up front.Medicare allows $4828.00I can’t go back to work until I fix my broken ankle. The financial department recommends that I apply for assistance which I believe will offer less reimbursement than I have offered which doesn’t seem logical. I can’t praise enough the level of care received here but this doesn’t seem like a very community friendly way of doing business. I had two children here while insured and would not have guessed that this is the attitude confronted by someone trying not to create more debt with the hospital.I can’t recommend this hospital to anyone who finds themselves uninsured or financially uncertain. I am having my procedure tomorrow because they have the advantage and I must go back to work. Luckily I have a resource to lean on and I can submit to this constraint. Many don’t and will find themselves committing to a debt they can’t hope to repay.I’m just a normal person. I work as a caregiver in this community. These figures are unimaginable in this income bracket. Don’t get hurt or very sick in Fredericksburg without insurance.

When I ran out of a medicine that you cant just quit cold turkey, but my psychiatrist was out of town, I was advised to call the Go Clinic. All I needed was 1(one) pill to get me through tonight, so I could sleep. After waiting for a return call, a very put out NP told me, Oh well, its not that bad. That drugs therapeutic levels wont be affected in one night! Well Nurse its 4:30 in the morning and I cant stop crying and I havent slept a wink. So I guess you are wrong! As I told you, I know my body (Ive been on this medicine since 2010) and if I skip a dose, not only does it make me feel like my body is reviving shock therapy, but I cannot sleep. (Not that you give even the tiniest care) Im sure if youd known me, this would have been no problem. But since I was a faceless, frightened nobody on the phone...close to quitting time...well you get the point. I hope you or someone you love, never have to experience the hell that I have been going through since I got off the phone with you almost 12 hours ago, but we all know that You get what you give. You didnt even try to help me. My emergency room copay is very expensive, but if no one will help me tomorrow, I will have no other choice. I cant go through another night like this. I hope that there is a better plan in place for people with mental health issues when they run into emergency situations like I did this week. Because these people at the Go Clinic do not care. Took my husband to ER this past Saturday with chest pain. Within 15 minutes Dr. Ombaba diagnosed that he was having a STEMI heart attack and the nurses literally were flying around the room getting IVs started, medications given, and a helicopter ordered to fly him to the Heart Hospital in Austin. According to the nurse in Austin who spoke with my son she said the HCMH ED staff did an exceptional job with him not only getting him to them, but with the protocol they followed to the letter for getting him the correct meds so that their work was easier getting him the stents he needed. Feeling blessed and he was able to go home one day earlier than expected -- only 3 days in the hospital. Thank you!!!

They came back in and told me, my husband and my mom that I was pregnant so they couldn’t do xrays. We were ecstatic! I went to my specialist for bloodwork the following day and she told me there was no way I was pregnant. The levels could not have gone from showing I was pregnant to nothing in a day. I am posting this review here because the review I posted to their website is not posted. Someone called immediately after I posted it a week ago and they never posted the actual review. THEY MONITOR REVIEWS AND ONLY POST WHAT THEY WANT.--Original review:I went in for an annual Well Woman exam. Upon leaving, I was charged a specialty copay even though I should not have been. I had not previously used my insurance, so I was initially unaware that I should not have been charged a copay. The only reason that I questioned it is because I overheard the Dr. Tulls nurse, Brittany, whisper to the receptionist, Amelia, I dont think youre supposed to charge her, but oh well. Go ahead and charge it and if it shouldnt have been charged, we can give her a credit. - This was highly unprofessional. - However, since I did not know at the time, I did not say anything. I just paid the bill. I later called my insurance and confirmed that I should not have been charged. I called the office and had to be transferred at least 6 times before I could reach someone who could assist me in refunding my money. In addition to the wrongfully charged copay, Dr. Tull requested lab work and I was told that I could call the lab beforehand to confirm pricing. I called the lab multiple times, I visited the lab in person, I called registration, I called Dr. Tulls office, I called billing, and was transferred to multiple people in all of those departments. Not a single person was able to tell me how much the lab work would cost me. So I contacted my insurance. They told me I would be responsible for a certain percentage of whatever the facility charges them and that I need to determine the cost from the facility... which I was already unable to do. Sure a lot of this can be attributed to the healthcare system as a whole, but at some point the hospital would have to bill me for the labs. So at that point, they would have to determine a price. I dont understand why that price cant be determined in advance.Back to the lady that was able to get me a refund for the wrongfully charged copay.... she stated, The nurse is supposed to get all of the pricing information for you if it is requested. If she did not, she is just be lazy and not doing her job. So I reached out to the nurse, Brittany again requesting pricing, again I was denied pricing and she recommended me going to a different facility that is not associated with Hill Country Memorial. I then explained that I was still awaiting my refund on the copay that she whispered to the receptionist about and not once did I get an apology or an acknowledgement for her unprofessionalism.--In the meantime, I was told the day of my appointment, Aug 24, that I would receive the money that they wrongfully charged me within 10 business days. 10 business days later, I still had not received my money. So I contacted them AGAIN. Still no apology for the nurses unprofessionalism or the wrongful charge. I was told I would receive my money the following week (the present week) and I still have not received it. I have however, received (in the mail) a notice that I WILL be receiving the money as well as a separate envelope containing Customer Satisfaction Survey that emphasizes their Remarkable Care, but not the funds that the owe me.Remarkably TERRIBLE.

Definitely an unplanned visit.Checked in thru the ER after an ambulance ride.ER personnel were fast, understanding, professional, & friendly.Needing Xrays, I dreaded the requisite bodily contortions to obtain the right view of the broken bone(s). The technician used an inflatable mattress with many holes in the bottom, which allowed an absolutely painless transfer from the bed to the table. Gliding on an almost frictionless cushion of air, similar to an air hockey puck, one person was able to transfer me from the bed to the table, and back to the bed. Fantastic!Later, I had to return for a CT scan. Once again, the air mattress performed flawlessly & painlessly.Kudos all around.Deciding surgery was necessary, Dr Bieker arranged for a surgical team & sent me to prep. The nurse was thorough, efficient, and exhibited the utmost in professional behavior. As I was wheeled into the operating room, I was struck by the number of people involved, but soon after that, I was out and cant recall anything. :-)My next cognitive thoughts came as I was back in my room. The attentive staff met my every need as I recuperated over the next few days.Unfortunately, I cant put very many names with faces, but all were impressive.A nice, unexpected touch: A gentleman brought a small flower arrangement to the room & departed. My wife looked, but saw no card to indicate the sender, so she ran out of the room to inquire of the delivery guy. She said he told her the flowers were compliments of HCM. Thats a first. Very much appreciated.I will admit that I quickly form impressions based on appearance, but I will also admit that I am often wrong.Such was the case with Roby. Copious facial hair, a man-bun … oh, dear! However, by the time I checked out, he was my favorite. He was courteous, gentle, and capable. Above all, he knew his stuff. Kudos to Roby.Preston was my therapist. Great guy. Straightforward & demanding, yet he inspired me to do my best to satisfy his commands. Im sure his prodding led to my rapid recovery. Thanks, Preston.Another standout was a very attractive nurse whose name started with the letter H. (Sorry, best I can do!) She asked about my class ring -- from UT -- and showed me her ring -- from Aggieland. That set the stage for some good-natured, rivalry-type comments. Good job!The food was absolutely delicious. EVERY MEAL! My compliments to the chef. I really mean that. Hospital food has the reputation of being devoid of spices and tasting like assembly-line cardboard. Not at HCM. My meals were restaurant quality. On the day I was discharged, the nurse brought instructions for my post-discharge activities. (I think her name was Veronica.) I gave her a condensed version of the above discussion. I could see the corners of her mouth were upturned in a small smile. Who doesnt like to hear flattering remarks? She thanked me & promised to relay my comments to the appropriate departments. Then came the actual departure. A young man gave me a wheelchair ride to my awaiting chariot, then helped me get into the getaway car.A great performance … start to finish … and I just wanted to share my pleasant experience.

After that my Mom and I were taken upstairs to get me ready for surgery. My nurse in pre op was Nikki and she was amazing! Had to have 2 IVs in each hand for the surgery I was having. She explained everything that was going on and made me feel comfortable and safe. Then Dr. Davis and Dr. Childers were my anesthesiologist and they were also amazing. Dr. Robertson was the one who did my surgery and told my mom and I how things were going be done and that he would update my mom afterwards. He is such a caring doctor and since this was my first orthopedic surgery to have done he was excellent. My OR nurses Brittney and Lisa were really sweet and just made me feel at ease since I was nervous about having this surgery. Afterwards I went to recovery and 30mins later I was able to go home. Even got a phone call from Dr. Robertson that night to see how I was doing. I just wanted to say Im really glad that I had my surgery done at HCM. The staff and my doctor I cant thank enough. We value HCM and consider ourselves fortunate to live in Fredericksburg. In fact, we are regular contributors, and HCM is named in our wills. That being said, we were recently unimpressed with the remarkable care we received from your laboratory. We were planning a trip and wanted to get away early, but needed to get routine blood work done for our upcoming physical examinations. So we arrived at 7:30 a. m., and were the first to be seated in your laboratory waiting room. Then, another woman came in and sat. Then two men joined us. Finally, about a half hour later, my wife was called in. She came out. Then the other woman was called in. Finally, over an hour after our arrival, our routine blood samples had been drawn and we were on our way. This needs attention. Respectfully, Gary Brunner

The worst. HCM is usually slow. It always takes forever to see the doctor, but tonight was the absolute worst. Went in at 4 something for my 1 year old. After answering all their questions, got into the room to see the doctor by 4:36 a.m. About ten minutes into the wait my son starts throwing up, his heart monitor spikes and no nurse stops by to check on anything and the machine wont stop beeping. Five minutes after that the only visit we recieved was to give him a dose of meds. Another tenish minutes pass and he throws up again, machine goes off again, no check up from the nurse. 45 minutes into the wait I politely asked to be discharged, all of a sudden the doctor is on his way and Im made to wait another ten minutes to see the doctor after Ive already asked to leave. Politely I tell him my sons regular had agreed to see him first thing at 7. After that the nurse rudely comes in to tell me I can just see myself out, as Im walking out I get to hear the nurses talk trash about me. No kindness left in the ER. I could have waited those 2 hours at home instead of sitting in the er getting the same result. Nothing.
