We have two mini Goldendoodles that are pups of the pandemic. The younger of the two was much more out of control that his older sister, and really needed some “basic training”. Lise provided that for us in a very calm, controlled, and patient manner. She worked beautifully with Oliver and taught us to do the same. Patience was key, because even though he is a fast learner, Ollie is also very excitable and distractible. She was patient not only with him, but also with us!We will definitely use Paws Afoot again when our dogs are more ready for their “socialization”training!Thank you, Lise!—Kathleen (&Sarah) Howe

In the past 30+ years, my husband and I have had the pleasure to raise three wonderful Golden Retrievers. We recently adopted a new Golden Retriever puppy, who is very, lets just say spirited. Weve never needed to have obedience training for any of our dogs, but found ourselves quite frustrated with training our new family member. A friend of ours recommended in-home 1-on-1 obedience training. We set about trying to find an in-home trainer and were so fortunate to find Lise! She has been an absolute godsend! We love her patience, positive approach to training, and actionable puppy psychology insights. We noticed immediate positive changes in behavior, in the puppy and us humans, on the very first session! Lise is very clear in her communication, reliable (always on time), and her rates are extremely reasonable. Lise also provides clear written instructions and other supplementary information so we dont have to rely on our memories. We chose an initial 4 session package which is now complete. We plan on continuing the weekly sessions with Lise in a few weeks once our puppy heals from her spay surgery! We highly recommend Lise!

If you have a new puppy the best thing you can do for yourself and your pup is call Lise! Her Puppy ABCs program was perfect and set us up for success with Daisy, our little Cavachon. Lise doesnt just train your pup but helps you understand how a dog thinks and why certain techniques work. This helped us learn how to interact with Daisy beyond the basic training. Lise was so patient and supportive for us first time puppy parents. She provided us with positive re-enforcement and training documents which we refer to over and over.Lise thank you for all your help in giving our family a great start with Daisy .

I cant stress enough how awesome Lise is. She was so great with our corgi puppy, so patient with us, and provided so many amazing tips for training. We focused on some training basics that have made our day-to-day lives with our puppy much easier (and fun)! Lise is SO organized and easy to work with. She sends along a digital copy of everything you learn in each session which makes practicing so much easier. We cant wait to book some follow up lessons soon!

Lise saved my relationship. With my dog that is. We had adopted a 10 month old golden retriever that had two prior owners and we soon learned why! He was a loving but strong-willed and untrained dog that lived with 3 little boys and was crated a lot. He had many behavior problems including jumping up (read: knocking us down), mouthing to the point of bruised and scraped hands, and we had no control over him. We started with Lise in group training (and our dog probably got a D- for the first class!) but covid stopped that. About 2 months ago our frustrations got to the point that we were going to give him up as well, but I emailed Lise to see if she did in-home training and she did. Literally after the first session the dogs whole demeanor changed as Lise showed us techniques to handle the problems and showed us how to do it. It is afterall training the humans as much, if not more, than training the dog! Doing it in-house was THE BEST. Lise provided handouts for all our sessions as well as for specific behavior problems which was great. That included helping deal with cat-dog relations as well. Lise is a miracle worker and we highly recommend her, although we worked with our dog quite a bit during the week as well, so dont think she is a magician!

I cant say enough good things about working with Lise. She is infinitely patient AND is like the Pied Piper for our highly distractible puppy -- he could barely take his eyes off her when she was in the room! Our training took place during Covid and Lise accommodated us (two adults and one teen) with all the safeguards necessary to do in-person training. All of us humans learned a TON and are on our way to raising a well-mannered dog.

Lise is amazing. Winnie, my 15 year old min pin, has separation anxiety to the point I couldnt go anywhere without her screaming endlessly until I returned. Lise has been so attentive and supportive in teaching me how to train Winnie. We did it over video, which worked really well. Separation Anxiety training is a lot of work, but totally worth it. Winnie is still in the process of training, but making excellent progress thanks to Lise. I highly recommend her!

What a great decision to go ahead and hire Lise to help me train my 3-month-old golden retriever. I was apprehensive due to the fact that our training had to be conducted on-line with Zoom because of the pandemic. After the first session it was apparent that the training was not diminished at all. She demonstrated the training techniques and provided feedback when I attempted the training on my own. She spent the time to ensure I had mastered each technique. After each session, Lise provided a detailed step by step document for ongoing reference and made herself available anytime to answer questions and provide continued support. I now have the skills needed to continue with training that will ensure my pup grows into a well-behaved member of the family. I highly recommend Lise from Paws Afoot for any and all dog training needs.

Because of the Covid pandemic, we had to do our puppy training virtually via Zoom but Lise was great! She took the time to talk though each technique before she demonstrated it on the stuffed dogs. She has so much knowledge and is eager to share it with you. We especially appreciated all her recommendations for training tools, dog toys and treats. After each zoom session, she emailed us everything in writing from what was discussed and the weekly homework. Lise is always easy to reach via text with any questions or concerns and she responds in a timely fashion. Using her techniques, our puppy grasped on to the training so quickly we are amazed! We highly recommend Paws Afoot for your dog training needs. You will not be disappointed when working with Lise.

RUN, dont walk to Paws Afoot for ANY training needs. Lises style is truly amazing. She is gentle and calm, and my dog quickly learned to listen to her. Lise has an innate ability to not only communicate with dogs, but with their human counterparts. She explained things that I was struggling with in multiple ways until she found the way that spoke to me. She was never condescending, and she constantly reassured me that not only was I doing a great job, but my dog was as well. Ive had several epiphanies in working with her that not only changed how I interacted with my dog, but also how I interact with the world (although that wasnt her goal - it just has been truly helpful to me as a human citizen.) She gives you tons of information at each meeting, and then follows up with written instructions so that youre very confident to continue the work when shes gone. After just a few sessions, my puppy is incredibly well mannered, and I am a MUCH more relaxed owner. The results of our work with her have surpassed my expectations by miles. THANK YOU, LISE!

Lise (pronounced Lisa) is so great and supportive. We opted for her private Puppy Basics package because I wanted someone who could work with my 12yr old with attention issues. Even pre-covid this would have been our preferred puppy training option. Not only did she accommodate our schedules she also took her time to make sure my daughter knew what she was supposed to do. Our Puppy LOVES Lise!! She gets so excited to see her EVERY TIME. We just completed our basic package and plan on getting additional private lessons once our puppy finishes her shots so we can work on skills like walking in the neighborhood and ignoring other dogs unless given permission and RECALL with distraction. Lise is an amazing dog trainer…especially in the midst of a pandemic. I was very curious to see how dog training would be facilitated in a remote environment, but Lise exceeded our expectations and now we are the proud owners of a 5 month old puppy who is very well trained and exhibits positive social behaviors around other puppies, thanks to Lise. Our classes were twice a week: one day Lise facilitated a session via Zoom, then later in the week we dropped our puppy off to LIse to socialize with other puppies. Lise has everything documented so that you can refer to lessons throughout the week. I’m grateful for my experience with Lise, especially during COVID where she ensured safety protocols were followed. Prior to puppy training, I researched quite a bit and thought I knew all I needed to know about training puppies, but every week with Lise, I learned something new! My family and I highly recommend Lise! Thank you so much for a positive puppy training experience, Lise…you are the best!!!

If your reading reviews you already need a trainer, we should have found Lise 4 months ago. Bear is our 1 year old black Labrador, amazingly smart. Too smart. Lise has shown us how to work with our dog so that our whole family is on the same page. Our training sessions were developed for us with us. Lise is professional, courteous and completely loves dogs.Bear is the typical teenage dog, needed serious direction and she gave us just the right advice in easy to digest sessions with printed follow up material to study later. We focused on his dragging us on walks and she suggested a walking harness and some behaviors that are making an amazing difference already. Lise also had a list of training items she thought would be helpful and we have used them every day since, no wasted stuff. The simple progression of the training sessions have worked for us very well. The cost was reasonable, you have her to yourself, no big groups.Your dog is part of your family/life and she understands your fear and worry about your pet.We have more work to do with Bear, he is having trouble with being separated from his pack (us) but the good news is we have found someone we trust to help us figure it out. I know we can do it together and thats huge!

I absolutely love Lise! (Long post but very honest). We adopted a 1.5 years old border collie/brittany/terrier mix from a shelter about 8 months ago. I have worked in shelters before and knew perfectly well that is not uncommon for shelter dogs to experience some trauma or carry some trauma from past experiences. Knowing this, we still went all in and got our beautiful Daisy, however she indeed started to display multiple issues after a few weeks of having her at home.It was very hard at the beginning to try and understand what was happening, what was going through Daisys mind and how we could help her. She was very loud and excitable, she reacted to a dog that came close to her and then she reacted even worse in a few other occasions. After doing some online research I came to articles that described her behavior as Fear based aggression and that it was recommended that I seek professional help. After about a week of researching and reading reviews, I decided to give PAWS A Foot a call. Lise was SO nice over the phone and listed to me as I explained to her everything that had happened. She was patient, honest and super knowledgeable, she told me that it can be worked out and gave me options to move forward. After the first call, we decided to schedule a first assessment. This only confirmed even further that Lise was excellent and that we wanted to continue working with her. We trained with Lise for about 5 months to address the first set of issues and we have seen so much change and improvement from the positive training approach that Lise uses. One of the things that I am most grateful to Lise is the fact that she was very honest with us. Letting us know exactly what she believed was going to be the optimal outcome and what we can and cannot expect our Daisy. This helped us tremendously to understand that our dog had certain issues that might never change but that she can learn to tolerate.Lise has also helped us connect with other local businesses, like groomers, agility trainers & dog walkers. We are still training Daisy & we reach out to Lise when we believe we can move forward and add more to our training plan.

Where would we be without Lise? We would be a dogless home, and our dogs fate would have been difficult to bear.We brought our Norwegian Elkhound mix home from PAWS in February of 2014. There happened to be someone home over the first several weeks of having her in our home, and there were no problems. We fell head over heels in love with her. However, the first time (and every time thereafter)she was left alone she tore through the trash, chewed on the windowsills, and knocked what she could over that was along the wall (for example, my boxes of pictures organized by date), and spread and chewed up the items throughout the house. We tried to crate her. No go. Chewed through and escaped the first two crates, and then tried to chew through the industrial crate we purchased, but only succeeded in cutting her gums and lips and leaving a small pool of blood on the crate floor. (Her bottom teeth are little worn nubs, so shes apparently been a dog to chew out of places for quite some time ~ she is about 9 years old.)We couldnt trust her inside, so we put her out with a thunder jacket on when no one would be home. She chewed through the fence and escaped. We sheet metaled the interior of the fence. She threw her body weight against the gates until they popped open and escaped. We put locks on the gates. She barked incessantly and we bore the wrath of neighbors. At home, she would follow me from room to room, scared to let me out of her sight. We are first time dog owners. Our love bug was a menace. We needed some serious help.Enter Lise.Lise was friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. She was reliable, trustworthy, sincere, and her love and enthusiasm for her craft is contagious. She was truly empathetic, and, thankfully, reassuring in regards to our “problem child”.She taught us about the tools of the trade, how to read our dog’s behaviors, how to change our dog’s behaviors, and how to interact with her in a positive way that would reinforce the training. Lise follows a positive training model, so we never felt as though we had to hurt or deprive our dog to get results. She was very up front about the commitment it would take from us to work with the tools she would give us to help manage our dog’s separation anxiety. It was going to take a lot.Over a six week period, Lise would come over once a week to check on the progress of the prior week and to teach us how to move into the next phase in her training for the following week. She would call and /or Skype each week in addition to the visit as well. She also worked in tangent with our veterinarian as part of the process in helping our dog cope with her separation anxiety. Because our dog was extremely dog aggressive as well, Lise taught us how to muzzle train her. She doesn’t like wearing it, but now allows us to put it on with no problems and doesn’t make a fuss.Slowly, but surely, we began to see improvements. We would have setbacks, but definitely were moving into a manageable situation.Today, we are in a totally different place from where we were when we brought our dog home seven months ago, and before our 6 week training program with Lise. I can go to work for the day and not have to worry (too much) about what she’s doing at home. She is able to stay in the house with a doggy door access outside without any problems (as long as I put the cat food up, make sure not to leave any food on the counters, and shut the trash cans away in the bathroom). It’s unbelievable! If it were not for Lise’s patience, understanding, never give up attitude, and help in training our 9 year old “pup” to manage her anxiety, we would have been in deep, deep trouble (no shelters would have ever taken her as she is on record for attacking another dog). She saved us a lot of heartache. She is a wonderful dog trainer who I can’t recommend strongly enough. She truly wants the dog and the family to succeed. What she did in my home with our dog is nothing short of a miracle!

We are so fortunate to have found Paws Afoot when we did! We have a lovable but fearful and somewhat unruly Pom and we adopted sweet mix from PAWS only days before hiring Lise. When my mother who lived in Florida was diagnosed with a late-stage terminal illness and we were faced with my immediately leaving the state for at least a few weeks to help care for her, we were left wondering what in the world we would do for the dogs for such a long period - and on such short notice. Although Ella (our adopted girl) would have done very well at dog daycare, it isn’t an option for Whidbey (the Pom) due to severe “social anxiety;” and, with my husband’s long workdays, leaving them home alone all day wasn’t an option. Add to that Whidbey’s leash aggression and Houdini moves, and we had a problem; we had under a week to find a walker we could trust not only with spending time with our dogs, but one with whom Whidbey could be at ease and who could demonstrate strong experience effectively managing his brand of challenging behavior. Enter Paws Afoot!I searched the Internet for ideas and found Lise’s site. Since we live in an area we knew would be a stretch for her, I had little expectation that she would help us, but she seemed such a perfect fit and time was so short, I had to try. Happily, after I shared the details of our quandary, she didn’t miss a beat before agreeing to help us. There are no words for how grateful and relieved I was. She came to the house before my departure to introduce herself and to give the dogs a chance to become acquainted with her, and I knew we’d struck gold from the moment she arrived; her technique was spot-on for a dog like Whidbey. Things went swimmingly! We discussed our needs with her, she inquired about all of those “What would you like me to know about your dogs?” items, she gave me an opportunity to ask questions, and before she left, we had everything in writing. I found her thoroughly professional and approachable from the moment we met, and that impression would remain throughout our contract. Each day Lise visited the house, she walked the dogs and then spent time playing and snuggling with them (that snuggling extended to the cat – not that he would have given her an option ☺). She tended diligently to Whidbey’s on-leash behavior with patience and positive reinforcement – no small undertaking – and left notes after each visit so my husband would know how things went; she even went above and beyond to text me photos and updates that inspired a smile on even the most difficult days. Although she had offered to help us on a more temporary basis due to her busy regular training and walking schedule heading into fall, when my time in Florida turned from weeks to months, she continued to work with us to do everything she could to ensure the dogs’ needs were met. The woman is truly remarkable. We will be forever grateful for LIse’s generosity, dependability, professionalism, skill, and her natural and bountiful love for animals. She stepped up during what was to become the single most difficult period in our lives thus far and gave us one less thing to worry about. We cannot recommend her services highly enough.

But it turns out he just needed the right trainer. He is learning many thngs now and is making steady progress. We chose to do a series of private lessons, which worked out great for us. I told Lise the main issues we wanted to work on, and she had a training plan for each issue. We would work on training during the session, and then she would send me written instructions detailing the training that we were to work on during the week. This is so helpful because I needed the written instructions to refresh my memory. Not only that, but Lise made herself available by phone or email for any questions that might come up between sessions.Lise is very organized, professional, FUN, and knows her stuff!
