Dr Weinstein has kept my husband alive for years as well as treat and cure several members in our family. He is without a doubt the smartest and most thorough Dr. I have encountered. His staff is equally as good.

I am finally posting this after almost 15 years of knowing Dr Weinstein. He has been my fathers GI doctor since 2004 when he received a liver transplant. My father was 64 years old when he was diagnosed with chronic cirrhosis of liver and was given about 6 months to live. I remember being desperate to get help for my daddy, whom I adore. I am a Family Practice physician in El Paso TX and I know how hard and difficult it is to get treatment for a chronically ill patient. I remember visiting Dallas Methodist Hospital because I heard about a great doctor (Dr Weinstein) who had just started a liver transplant program. He immediately made my father at ease, explained everything, and advised us of risks and benefits. The coordinators advised us to start raising money. We had raffles, dinners, etc but Dr Weinstein and his staff were always there guiding us. We were in El Paso TX 12 hours away from Dallas all throughout 2004 until my father took a turn for the worse in early September 2004. His liver was cirrhotic, his liver enzymes were sky high; I remember he was actually orange in color. We laugh about it today and I tell him he looked like an ooompahloompa, but at the time it was scary and devastating. His kidneys were failing and he went to the to the top of the transplant list due to how sick he was. Dr Weinstein reassured us and was always giving us advice. He finally told me I needed to get my father to Dallas to be hospitalized because If a liver were to become available, then we would not have time to drive or fly from El Paso to Dallas in time.We made the difficult decision to send my mom and dad to Dallas to wait for a transplant. My mom was to stay at a hotel that Methodist worked with and received a discounted rate (25.00 a day) and she would use their shuttle to go back and forth to the hospital. I had to stay in El Paso because I had a private practice and I had to continue working. Incidentally, my mother was my office manager, biller, coder and front desk.I was beyond stressed, but as always Dr Weinstein gave us the positive pep talks and was there taking care of my father in the hospital as his liver was failing and his kidneys were shutting down. All the liver institute team, which has changed over the years, were excellent, but Dr Weinstein has always been there and has been a constant in our lives over the past 15 years.I remember the night of September 25th, 2004, receiving a phone call at 6:30 PM in El Paso TX from the liver coordinator telling me there was a donor for my father and I needed to get to Dallas ASAP because the team would be flying to Tyler TX to recover the liver. He was to have surgery in the morning if all went well. I was shocked joyful and praising God all at once. I called my mother and father in Dallas to relay the news and called my brother. I told him we needed to get on a plane that night.I frantically called Southwest airlines looking for a flight to Dallas The attendant told me the last one for that night was at 0800 PM. It was now 0700. I said Id take it. Meanwhile I did not know my brother and sister in law were getting the same flight as well. The clock was ticking and I had to to get to the airport to be on the plane by 745. I decided to just forget about packing just took myself, my clothes I was wearing and called my neighbors to let them know what was happening. I had no makeup, no toiletries, nothing except literally the clothes on my back.Flash forward to today March 19th, 2019. My 64 year old father did receive a liver transplant the next morning Sept 26, 2004. He is now 79 years young about to turn 80. His liver is beautiful, healthy, and functioning well. We continued to visit Dr Weinstein every year in Dallas for the past 15 years until this year we decided to stay in El Paso to see a local GI due to the hardship of travel for my older parents. But Ill forever be grateful to Dr Weinstein for everything he did for me and my family!! He is the best and I pray for him to have a long and prosperous journey in this world! ThxMelissa Molina
