Of all places in Columbia, SC, AVOID this hospital at all cost. Save yourself the anger, pain and money and go to Lexington Medical Center. My mother was brought to the emergency room at 12PM and was not seen until 2AM the next morning. The thing that baffles me; she is in the ER due to the surgeon not operating properly. They left part of her gallbladder that was supposed to be removed which now has caused her to be in a severe amount of pain and she also has Jaundice. Here it is 12PM the following day and now they are rushing her into surgery to finish the removal. This is insane, imagine what they will miss now. This is careless and greedy. There is absolutely zero patient care here and I would love to see just how many deaths this institution has caused. From the bottom of my heart, do not bring your loved ones to this hospital.

I wish I could give zero stars. I’ve been waiting for over 8 hours. I came in in pain and dehydrated and they won’t give me pain medication or IV. They can care less about what you are dealing with. I hate I even came here. Anywhere else would have been a better choice. You literally can die in the waiting room waiting to be seen. Please don’t come here. Go anywhere else. I left after nine hours.

Horrible. Do not go here. The ER should be shut down. They are not providing appropriate care. What they are doing may well be medical malpractice. After arriving by ambulance, my wife had to wait for over 9 hours in the ER with a broken bone to see someone. And without any painkillers. Or food. It took 13 hours, from noon to 1am the next day, just to get what amounted to about an hour of care for a broken bone. It felt like a hospital in a 3rd world country - i.e., a total breakdown of reasonable standards, and total disarray. People literally screaming for hours. The hospital should shut down the ER at this time because its clear they are not able to provide appropriate care. It is simply inappropriate, irresponsible, and unethical to leave the ER open when youre not able to provide anything like an appropriate standard of care. Read the reviews. This place is a disaster. State regulatory agencies and hospital oversight bodies should be intervening to shut this ER down.

I had a minor surgery here yesterday in outpatient surgery and the staff was AMAZING! My nurse anesthetist was sooo sweet and compassionate and kneeled down by my bed several times to say kind and encouraging words. She’s the one I remember the most but I cannot remember her name. But the other staff members with her were great too and they are Dr. Quinn, Dr. Fisher, Nurse Sara, Nurse Kim, Nurse Robin, Nurse anesthetist Tommy and my recover nurse whose name I can’t remember either! You guys were great! ❤️❤️❤️

From the moment i arrived i was treated bad, i wasnt able to walk and a wheelchair was not offered (i had to fight through fatigue/shortness off breath and ask for one). The registering nurse showed no concern or eye contact, the young lady taking my vitals assured my daughter they would take good care of me since she couldnt stay. As soon as my daughter left a nurse came and took my wheelchair saying there was a shortage. I complied but didnt have a way to get to the bathroom now, i flagged the Lady who assured she would take good care of me and she gave me the hold up finger. She then backpedaled behind the counter where she thought i couldnt see her. I struggled to get up and use the bathroom, i made it in but not on the toilet. I turned around to get help from anyone and just then a patient ran to my rescue and helped me to my seat. I was now sweating uncontrollably and having abdominal pains. My daughter returned to pick me up a few moments later and was trying to get me a wheelchair so i could leave this horrible experience but the registering nurse showed no empathy and was very dismissive in tone. My daughter went live to record my experience and WE were asked to leave (without being seen), i have breast cancer and am undergoing chemo with Neulasta. I dont want any involvement with this hospital ever again but my surgeon is here and Im considering withdrawing from that.

My mother-in-law’s husband was taken by ambulance from an urgent care center to the ER at this facility around 4:45pm yesterday. We drove down to the hospital only to be told we could not come in due to Covid, which we understood. We were asked to leave a phone number with the three guards who were at the ER door and then given a phone number to call if we wanted to call for updates. We started calling after 8pm as we had not heard any updates. We called the number given many times only to be told they did not have him in the system and we’d then be transferred to another number where it rang forever and then eventually hung up on us. Finally after many calls, someone in the ER picked up and they also said he was not in the system. How can you not know where a patient is that has been there for several hours. My mother-in-law was becoming increasingly agitated and upset because the hospital could not tell her where her husband was. Finally we talked with a very nice operator who helped us out by contacting the Administrator on Duty and we had an update within 10 minutes. Come to find out he had been discharged around 9pm and was there waiting for us to pick him up. No one called and the hospital staff tried to say they didn’t have a phone number to call us at, but they did as he had a folder from the urgent care center with contact information that was given to ER staff when he arrived at the ER and additionally a phone number was left with the three guards at the door to the ER. This is a completely unacceptable way to do business and this ER needs to determine the root cause of this failure and develop a process for knowing at all times who is in their ER so that other families do not have to go through the stress our family went through last night. This should never have happened.

I would give this facility a zero if I could because from the time I stepped foot in here up until I was discharged was a nightmare. For this hospital system to be as large as it is, they should have impeccable service and a cleaner facility. While waiting in the ER for a room I saw ants and roaches in the lobby. After being admitted, I was highly disappointed with the care provided by several of the staff although I appreciated nurses delta and heather, the case manager and my doctors np. The others were not attentive and lacked bedside manner. The gentleman who transported me to my room was more accommodating and friendly. They also lacked simple communication with my family during and after surgery. I will say the ladies in the “block room” were wonderful and were the only ones who provided my family an update prior to my surgery. Even being discharged was a nightmare. This really made me appreciate my stay at LMC where the nurses took pride in patient care, they provided constant updates to my family until I was in recovery, the facility was clean and they had me discharged in a timely manner. I hope this Prisma facility steps there game up

I was born in Columbia, SC. I have lived in GA, DC, and now I live in CA. I have not seen a more empathetic, and friendly staff. My mother has been in, and out of ICU for almost 2 months. The whole team was very helpful. I only got the names of two folks Allyson, and Danny on the 5th floor who were awesome! Listen, when situations like this occur your stress levels are at a high. The whole team really, and truly cares. Even the lady that was taking the room service orders. I don’t recall the hospital being this great of an experience growing up, but it seems as though they have gotten it right. There is one thing that I would like to address is that I have a 16 year old brother that was not allowed to see my mother due to the under 18 COVID restrictions. I wish that could’ve happened, but I can understand in terms of the risk why it didn’t. That part was the only negative takeaway. They really wanted to see each other. Overall, I’m thankful, and grateful for the service they provide. They are doing great work here!

My OB is located at this hospital. I absolutely love my OB and the practice however I had a non emergency urine test completed in December after just having a baby with the practice located within Prisma. I have a high deductible insurance plan which I met my deductible, I was then sent a huge bill from said lab. I reached out to my OB whose office manager informed me that their practice is now required to use the lab that Prisma uses instead of one that is in network which then caused me to have a huge bill. A lab that would’ve cost me $0 now costs me $300. I was told “sorry” my Prisma and then the OB office. Sorry doesn’t pay the $300 bill. Using uncommon labs shouldn’t even be a practice because it’s going to be out of pocket for most patients. I was also informed that I could’ve even used an in network lab that is minutes from my home instead of driving downtown, finding parking etc and then being forced to pay this huge bill. Why wasn’t this information made available prior? This is horrible practice for all patients and sadly I can’t say I’m happy about the changes “Prisma” has enforced with the new merge.

They put my husband in hallway an gave him a bucket of water an told him to wash his feet (where all cuts to bone where) he couldnt even get to his feet so they gave him a chair like that would help . Then proceeded to stitching closed with all sand mud an dirt still in his wounds. They gave him antibiotics because they knew he was going to fight infection due to their poor care he is taking his medication an infection is still getting worse I cant believe they can treat people like this an be rude about the whole thing. If you love the person your taking to hospital go somewhere else they have no since of care for life here . I would give them -5 stars if possible. After sitting in the waiting room hours unattended I was placed in a room and threatened take this (medication) or you get nothing. I was afraid of the medication that was offered based on a adverse reaction my former patient experienced (death). I feel like my rights were violated and I have yet to receive a call back in regard to this issue. Places like this should be closed down permanently. I was admitted through ER on the 5th due to acute respiratory failure of COVID. The staff is very short and its a miracle just to be able to get fresh ice water to drink in your room. Most of the time left all night with hot water and no one coming in to check. The nightmare was the food. My last night at 5pm I ordered a pizza and at 10pm was brought a tray that looked like it was found in someone elses room with the lid ripped off not knowing what it even was. Not to even mention how do you mess up chicken noodle soup but that was thrown up in my floor after 1 sip of just the broth. The room was cleaned only once in 9 days of stay and bedding changed once. The sink had brown water and was leaking in the bathroom floor continually. It should be wrong even without taste or smell to try to feed humans what they were bringing. The taste is retched at best. My diet pretty much stayed to grapes and sprite. Care overall is very lacking. Freshen up the menu or food provider richland! Allot of talk of people not wanting to come anywhere near your hospital for long term care unless forced to! Simple fix to offer some decent food and a cleaner room! Plus tell your staff to quit yelling at patients, we are human not sub par because were sick! I will never go back for care at all! Baptist or Lexington will be my future choice for sure!

The lady at the front desk for registration was the reason I gave two stars bcuz she was the best part. I went in with chest pains, left arm pains, back pains as well. I’m 25, my health is in good condition so I understand I don’t look as urgent as a 65 year old coming into the ER with chest pains for longer than a week now & I know I don’t have anxiety issues. BUT I know when something isn’t right & when my body is off. I have also had uncles pass in their thirties bcuz of heart attacks & strokes & everything in the family. Which I also told them. I was waiting for TWO hours before I went up to the desk to ask if chest pains were just not an important thing anymore? I told them if I needed to go elsewhere bcuz I’ve been waiting for 2 hours with pains & no one has done anything.. And the nurse, with an attitude the entire night looking like she absolutely hates her job told me that my BP was normal so that’s why I’m waiting. I’m a nursing aide, and my mother is a nurse of over 20 years.. I know BP isn’t always an indicator. They didn’t even do an EKG when I went in which should have been done immediately for ANY patient that comes in ANY ER for chest pain. Drove an hour to get the care that I was told was better than in my town but i ended up going to toumey instead & they INSTANTLY did an EKG. I won’t go back.

Wife had our last child here. Overall decent experience. There was a lot of waiting around for long periods which was a bit frustrating.Took my four year old son to the ER the other night after he smashed his face into the bathtub and lost an entire tooth and lossening another two. Yeah, we waited for two hours after our initial screening to be taken to an exam room and meet a physician after more waiting. But over all the care was good. I think the issue with the wait times is a result of a lot of parents bringing their kids in for minor things like a slight temperature and a bump on the head. Things Tylenol can fix. Clogs the system up a bit. But again overall I prefer this over the incompetent practically non existent failure that is the socialized medical system of Fort Jackson.

She has had a major surgery and has been treated extremely poorly by staff including both nurses and doctors. She has been refused proper pain management and medication off the accusatory and stereotypical pretense that she is lying about her pain level and drug seeking. Nurses have refused to abide by care plans that the doctors have set in place and doctors have been telling the patient one thing and then going back and telling the nurses something completely different. Clinical staff is professional, courteous and sympathetic. No problems there. The patient rooms, can stand to be renovated, quickly. The room my husband was in looked liked it was being primed for a paint job. If a patients mental health were to be considered at all, looking at those walls in that environment would most certainly send them into a funk. The room resembles the inside of a prison clinic room with seriously outdated fixtures and equipment. Must frustrate the staff too no doubt. The NUTRITION department requires a SERIOUS overhaul with regard to menu and delivery of meals. My husband was just one patient, but no doubt, meal delivery affects all patients. One lunch was delivered far past the lunch hour and delivered cold. Another meal, dinner, was delivered TWO HOURS after a stated time of 45 minutes. This is not acceptable to patients who are hungry and in an already vulnerable position of not being able to be mobile and get their own food. Thats just cruel. A greater effort has to be made on that end. Even as I type this, yet another meal has yet to be delivered and I cannot even get a meal from the cafeteria due to COVID-19 restrictions and not being able to purchase food for him. This makes a hospital stay beyond two days, a litmus test. The State of South Carolina needs to fund PRISMA HEALTHCARE and direct those funds to outdated facilities, upgrade equipment and overhaul underperforming departments. Not a good look.

I asked on multiple occasions about when my husband would be taken back to surgery and all I got was an “I don’t know, maybe an hour or two.” Fast forward to 5pm they took him back for surgery and at 6pm the doctor came out and told me he was in recovery and I could go back to be with him shortly. 8pm rolls around and I hadn’t heard anything about my husband or his condition since they came to get his clothes and tell me he was being discharged at 7 pm, so I grabbed someone that was leaving to go home and asked for their help. Just as she was trying to help me they were wheeling him out to go home. I was not notified or anything that he had been discharged and was ready to go home. Thank you for allowing us to close this investigation today November 12, 2020. I think a call would have been nice and I wasnt asked if they could close it. But after what they did to her and us, not surprised at all!!! Please dont send any one that you love to this ER.

Very nice facility but diffently some culture change needed. I am from out of town and by myself. The first nurse I had was very good but, I sleep with a cpap or cant sleep. So not only did they keep me from eating for 36 hours or more they could have called the surgeon and gotten me a covid swab order and also, cpap so I didnt sleep until 8 pm the following night when someone finally got me a CPAP. I was so miserable the first and until 8 pm the second night.I asked to speak to the surgeon whom never came to talk to me after my surgery about going home after a out patient procedure. The nurse flat our refused to let me talk to him. Then today he came in and he was very good. The nurse I asked her to call him and ask for a medication here as everything is out of pocket a now I have to also pay for a CPAP over $700 and only used for a couple hours. A hospital night that could have been avoided if they would have just did the paperwork so I could leave.Surgery team also concerns me, the sterility and the fact nobody ever told me what meds I was getting and also that they were putting me to sleep I just woke up in recovery. The nurse I had in morning scoulded me for not asking doctor for things before he left. I talked to him half awake and medicated. But told me he wouldnt write me a doctors note for time he said no problem to. I would have to get from his office even though I am from out of town. I ended up calling myself and they are able to put in computer system and she cant print off. Most staff just walks in room at all times dont expect to sleep more then a hour especially the young lab lady and all house keeping. The food was so cold and gross had to eat banana and pudding or would have starved...

My husband was recently diagnosed as paraplegic due to an accident and went to this hospital. Tonight he had a sharp pain that was consistent and would not go away and he was in tremendous pain. He went to the hospital only to be turned away and not allowed to enter the hospital. They even told him he was not allowed to take his own wheelchair into the hospital and had to get into one of theirs. Crazy. A patient should never be turned away, especially when he was in that much pain. He now has to turn all the way around and go to another hospital. We see the hospitals true colors now as well as the security officers present outside who were rude to him. We will not be returning. Horrible experience and horrible staff.

I scheduled my son to be seen at Palmetto Health USC Medical group Neurology for March 10th, 2021 @2:15pm. This office has changed my sons schedule numerous times without my consent and now they have dismissed him due there own scheduling issues and miscommunication. This is the worst medical practice Ive experienced to date. If I could give 0 stars i would. So I went to the office today to speak with the office manager about the scheduling issue. I didnt get to speak to the office manager, but the lady who scheduled my son came to the front desk with much attitude arguing about the schedule, but did reschedule. My advice to the office is some of the staff need to practice professionalism on the job, when scheduling patients, let the patient schedule their appointments, not the scheduler telling the patient when to schedule, and do schedule confirmations prior to appointment date and time to address any scheduling issues if necessary. This will be the last time I will deal with this, hopefully, the issues will be addressed because this makes the whole practice look bad.

You would think ppl that work a front desk of a hospital would have some sort of customer service. But sadly, no. When I asked for directions (which is their job) they looked at each other before telling me someone should have already told me. What’s the point in that statement? Because I wasn’t instructed where to go, is why I was asking them. Not only do they need to be respectful but they never know what someone is going through especially in a hospital. Then the dr tried to argue with me that he told me and my husband that he needed to be on a certain medication he wasn’t for surgery. Which we had to wait almost 5 hours, my husband was ready to be wheeled into surgery. They didn’t give us any paperwork. They are definitely not organized or on top of things now. I remember a few years ago before the name change, most people were great. Like Marcus the RN was great yesterday and I let several people know that because just as much as HR needs to know how rude most of them are, they need to know there are good people too. Front desk definitely needs work

Where do I even begin with this hospital that lacks any empathy for its patients. My husband drove me here almost 3 hrs from home to try and get me some help for the cardiac arrest I had prior and was discharged without answers from another hospital and was still having issues with my heart. They got me hooked up and kept blowing my veins with ivs. They did an EKG and left me on the monitor where my husband and myself was able to see the problems clearly on the screen but not a person in this hospital cared. Finally a dr came in and said oh it must be seizures we will consult neuro. I told him I was not having seizures and to please not blame it on seizures just bc Im epileptic. We had to beg him to go back and look at the episodes Ive had on the screen since I had been here. A few minutes later he comes in and says he needs to admit me. So then I wait hours to speak with the hospitalist dr who made it seem more like a police interrogation rather than a medical situation. They then told me that my husband had to leave because he can only visit a few hours a day. We spoke with a nurse supervisor who claims had the opportunity to change the rules due to certain circumstances but said he would refuse. We explained he lives almost 3 hrs away and we came here for help. If I had another cardiac arrest he may not make it back in time. They clearly said oh well we would have to just deal with it. We are not financially able to drive 3 hrs there then 3hrs back every single day. So I ended up leaving because I didnt want to die without my husband close. I then asked to see my EKG and the dr said he couldnt allow me to see it so they wouldnt even give me my own medical record because they are hiding stuff. This hospital lacked any bedside manner and the drs and staff are plain out rude and uncaring. Definitely disappointed we drove 3hrs away to get help fromthe best only to find out they are the worst.

I went into the emergency room around 12noon on 7/23. I was placed in the hallway until around until around 1am, 7/24. They moved me to a room and told me that they were trying to get me a room to stay over night to see what’s going on. At 3am, a nasty Dr. came and told me they were sending me home because they found nothing wrong with me, while I’m in excruciating pain.

Billing and accessing billing information via the portal is a nightmare. I am quite versed in accessing sites or paying online. The staff were friendly, but what is making me give a low review is the uncleanliness of the hospital. Two of the rooms I was in were not cleaned properly. One room I was in seeing a doctor had trash on the floor and needed mopping. The walls needed cleaning too. The waiting room had a spill that was just sitting there for at least an hour an a half. The lack of cleanliness leads me to believe this place is probably not sterile as it should be.Midlands Technical College is much cleaner than this place, and it isnt even a hospital.

Saw a nurse, Sarah Ricard, from this location refuse to wear a mask in a grocery store. She argued with the staff & gave them attitude when they asked her to put one on. I’m disappointed that this behavior would come from a NURSE in the middle of a PANDEMIC. I wanted to leave a review because it’s completely unacceptable because she is putting the health of her patients and other staff at risk. I would never trust this hospital to keep me or others safe if they have staff who are so callous with the care of people, even if it is outside of work.

18 yr old son arrived with possible broken foot at 10:30 this morning. Was brought back for x-rays at 11:30 then told oh we lost you in the cue and sent back to waiting room. SIX HOURS LATER - he got up and hobbled out to go to another hospital. Approached front desk staff twice to make sure they knew he was still waiting and received rude and dismissive responses. Awful. Imagine your child in pain, alone in a waiting room for 6 hours with no one but rude people ignoring him. Disgraceful.

My dad was in the ER for a fall. They patched up the cuts on his forehead, but didnt help him clean up blood on his face or body, nor did they give any attention to the scrapes and bruises on his arm, nor even provide antacid for his severe heartburn. Most concerning, they were not keeping patients 6 apart per CDC recommendations.

Rude staff. Always understaffed. Guess they cant hire people who come to work. The heart and childrens hospital are wonderful but the actual hospital is awful. If you call for help it maybe a hr before you get someone to your room and they will let a person go a week without a bath. Theres always some excuse on why they cant bathe you at that moment. They will claim that they will come back on 30 mins and then avoid coming back until the end of their shift. I as a nurses aide am disgusted with the techs Ive dealt with in this hospital. I will NEVER come back here. They do not care about ppl. They have the laziest staff. You can hear them laughing and standing around talking while call lights go off.

They have a separate billing department for ER and the hospital?? So you will get sent to collections for a bunch of different reasons, maybe the mailing issues during the pandemic, and when you call the hospital to pay your bill you will only be told about one bill, and that department didnt share your insurance information with the other billing department... because departments of the hospital dont communicate????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

However, billing turned over to collections after calling NUMEROUS times with appropriate demographics and insurance info (brought in by EMS). On December 8 my granddaughter entered the ER8 months pregnant feeling very sick at 12 noon at 3 o’clock has still not been saying she was forced to leave due to the sitter not being able to continue keeping her child a family member called the hospital and complained and December night she was called that morning and was given a phone number to call whenever she came back she would go straight in the back and be seen and not have to sit in the waiting room. However she chose not to go back to Prisma the next day she went to Lexington medical center they had to provide her with IV fluids because they found that she was dehydrated they said that she had severe high blood pressure and gave her medication in Lou of possibly having to do an emergency C-section one month early she was tested for influenza and Covid and came back as positive for Covid. Prisma health care Richland needs to be held accountable for their lack of professionalism and taking care of a pregnant woman in the mist of our Covid epidemic and because of this lack of unprofessionalism having to wait even one more day could have caused devastating effects to the Health and welfare Of this woman and her baby

All staff from the top down need A LOT of mentorship at this location. This includes doctors, nurses, technicians, receptionists, security guards and any other personnel who work there. Why is it that doctors are asking me (the relative from out of state) about the patients recent medical history? Do I have letters after my name? Nope, read the patients chart. My experience with this hospital in less than an hour, clearly articulates why Prisma Health Richland Hospital is a 2.6 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, I was there a total of 5 hours and observed several more alarming reasons. Although, it is possible that 2.6 is the new 5 star level. They are doing the best they can.

We cannot thank everyone involved enough for the excellent care and treatment he received!!! With Covid going on right now, there is no visiting at all; rest assured they will take very good care of your loved one! This policy is hard on loved-ones, but is enforced for the good of all patients, as well as the staff treating those patients. No one needs to contract Covid on top of an illness or an emergency!! We were thinking this is extreme... however after them treating us like unfit parents, we reluctantly submitted to their demands. They didnt tell us about the side effects of the spinal tap.. and days after we had to look up on the web that it is imperative to replenish the childs fluids. Absolute epitome of the hospital industry, no organization or structure whatsoever. Spent most of my visit convulsing in the waiting room unable to breathe while the front desk watched and did nothing, afterwards I was transported to the novel disease room where they gave me an x-ray then left me for dead for 4 hours. At 3:00am they gave me permission to leave, outstanding I lasted this long, was on the verge of just leaving, if I was going to suffocate it would of happened hours earlier. Anyways I received 0 help whatsoever, and a 400$ Copay to essentially take a nap on a broken hospital bed with miscellaneous liquid on it for several hours, I would of rather just died from covid than to sit through this god awful experience again.
