My mom spent time here and I couldn’t be happier. The nurse, Barica, was very kind and compassionate to my mom and our family. She aways found the time to answer our questions.

Lovely well thought out architectural design. Institutional methods are dated. Skilled nursing residents have limited options for developing independence. Rehab space the most beautiful!

My 93-year old father spent a short stay in the skilled nursing wing of the Slovene Home after fracturing his hip and in every way the facility exceeded my expectations. Caring and competent staff, attractive facility (renovated and expanded in 2012), committed therapists with state of the art equipment, high quality food and engaging activities including weekly Mass on Saturdays said by St. Marys Father Kumse. I was so glad that I chose Slovene Home to care for my father.

The staff here is very dedicated to their residents and treated my aunt and mother with the utmost of respect and courtesy. They provided excellent care for both of them. I highly recommend the Slovene Home for the Aged. I hope to get this level of care when I reach that point in my life.

Think twice before sending your loved ones here. The appearance may be nice on the outside, but the staff in not knowledgeable. Our mother was brought her for rehab and ending up dying there. It was obvious the staff did not read her medical records. Instead, they made a visual assumption and asked me if my mother had a stroke, looking at her skin graft. I told them she has melanoma. When they did the physical exam at the check in it was a good thing I was standing in the room. I told Barica, the nurse to close the curtains and show some respect as anyone walking past could see her, so I told them I will stand behind her and cover her. There is no respect for the patient. The next evening my sister spent the night and the nurse asked if she know why our mother was on insulin. She told her they started that at the Clinic. Insulin was fast acting if her sugar was high instead of taking a pill. The nurse then checked her blood glucose after injecting her and her sugar levels were low and she gave her some chocolate milk to spike her sugar. The last evening I was there to visit she was sitting in a wheelchair in a dark room with the bathroom light on and the curtain were still open. I dont know how long she was sitting there as the staff is too busy sitting on their back side instead of going in to check on patients. While I was there a nurse injected my mother with insulin and she yelped. I did not see her check her blood glucose when I was there. They do not record the blood sugar reading in the medical charts. When she left the room I went to ask for a pair of scissors and overheard one nurse tell her she was not supposed to give that to her. We received a call not even 7 hours after I left that our mother died. We think she went into a diabetic coma because she was very alert the entire day and was feeling well. This is inexcusable!! The other issue was security. they have a sign that says the doors lock at a certain time, but when we would come some nights after 9 p.m. the front doors were still unlocked. That last evening I was there my brother and his daughter came in from a back door that was open. This is a concern for all the patients and residents there. Our father was there also for a short time before our mother got there and he too did not have a good experience, but did say anything until he was home for fear the staff would cause him physical harm. Two of the housekeeping staff wanted to changed his bed sheets and he could not get up fast enough and they also made him fall off the bed. He told them to wait and they were impatient. My sister called in and voiced his complaint and Sandy said she would address this with the housekeeping supervisor. Also the doctor was a jerk! He took days sign her death certificate and wrote in the wrong cause of death! We are in the process of having it changed. My advise to anyone considering bringing a loved one there, DONT! If you still decide to bring there, DO NOT leave them alone, they need someone there to be their advocates, eyes and ears. They are more concerned with getting paid by Medicare then really caring about patients lives and well-being. Knowing a patients medical background is paramount. To the nurse or aid who injected our mother with insulin and sadly to her death. I believe in karma and you will get yours. God sees all.Shame on all of you!
