My daughter loved the php program. Made lots of new friends she felt comfortable with. She enjoyed the food, the classes, the group time, even the van driver showed the utmost care and concern for her. Their transportation Dept worked continually with us and out ever changing needs. The counselors showed genuine concern. The medication staff was flexible and responsive to our needs. The security and extra precautions taken during the pandemic was top notch. All around, our experience was extremely positive. Would recommend and would go again if needed.

My daughter was admitted to hratgrove in august 2020 she told me multiple stories about there. Some stories were really good others were not so friendly. i know she mentioned Ms.JAquetta and Ms.Angelina and Ms.judy along with Mr.kyle, Mr.ronnie, and Mr.Michael. She told me they kept her safe at all times And knew when to be a strict staff and when not to be. They made her 4month stay better. But she also mentioned how sometimes there were peers whohad major issues with her and tried to fight her and some staff did nothing about it.She also loved the nurses; Ms.irena, Ms.sherry, Ms.Bridget, andetc

They had my brother there illegally in the Psychiatric hospital. They refused him diabetes care. He was unaware as to why he was being held. A petition was signed by an off sight psychiatric doctor. We were denied a timely reassessment. Two CPD reports were filed. And they were on our side and agreed that our legal rights were violated. Our legal team is currently on the case as is the Chicagoland media. *****AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COST***** my brother in laws condition declined medically and psychologically in their care due to their negligence and lack of protocol. If you love your loved ones keep them away from this facility. I wish I could give this a negative rating.

My nephew was here, one of the worst psychiatric facilities in all of Illinois. Number one the respect from staff to any family is none, number two they have zero care for their patients. Even if their patients admit that they need help they will just send them on their way, if a patient admits they want to self harm they will send the patient on their way. This is not what our medical system should be showing our youth. Our psychiatric system is better than this, what is it going to take besides for you guys to send someone on their way and for them to take their life 5 minutes later in order for you to straighten your act up and get this place together. Hold your staff accountable, I understand its a hard field to work in but this is unacceptable.

Wildly irresponsible and unethical at best. Doctor Meh Jabeen Hussain should not be practicing medicine and Hartgrove Hospital does NOT care how incredibly bad she really is.I saw this doctor one time, was given a prescription, had horrible side effects, and when I called her, her voicemail inbox was full. I couldnt even leave a message so given the SMS option, entered my phone number, still no call back.A week later I was actually able to leave a message as I was about to run out of my regular prescription. Again, no call back.A week after that, I tried again, but alas, my call was never returned. The Hippocratic Oath says do no harm. Its a very simple oath to not break, but Meh, which is the most impossibly perfect name for this doctor breaks that oath like its her job... pun intended. You know how to do harm to someone, Meh? By not calling them back or doing as little as refilling a prescription for someone on a medication who, if they go without it, can literally have a seizure and die.I was a caretaker for my mother for 14 years until the day she died in my arms. I took her to literally hundreds of doctor appointments during that time. I saw the best the medical field had to offer and the worst they had to offer. That being said, Dr Hussain is the worst by a large margin.DO NOT make an appointment with this irresponsible, money-grabbing hack or anyone associated with her. I will stop at nothing to destroy her reputation and career for putting not only myself, but all her other patients in grave danger. I literally had to go to the ER to get

This place is literally awful and I hadn’t even gotten evaluated yet. My parents and I were sitting in the waiting room for at least 2 hours along with this other girl who had been there probably long before me. The poor girl ended up falling asleep on the dirty floor. The door was locked and there was no intercom because it got removed. The only way we could contact anyone else was by googling the hospital and calling them. By the time I had enough, some girl came in and called my name but we just told her that we were leaving and going to another hospital.

I would confirm that it would be okay to call back out side of call time and they would say it was okay. However when I would call back the second time they would NOT allow me to talk to him. The staff here is very, very rude and unprofessional. They would argue with me on the phone and then hang up on me! My little sister has been staying at Hartgrove for a couple months now. For future reference, I will not be recommending this hospital due to the fact that not only is it important for myself and probably others to keep in contact with those inside, but on several occasions I was unable to reach my family due to the employees, not the front desk but those actually in each ward/floor, continuously putting incoming calls on hold for long periods of time, multiple times, and constantly not connecting the call to the specified individual it’s meant for.Not only this, but in situations happening within between patients, such as altercations or escalated situations, it seems that it’s ok to TRASH PERSONAL BELONGINGS of those inside. For instance, this happened to my sibling, and after bringing her some books, among other items for her birthday, it was decided without anyone’s permission whether parent or patient, to throw away her 2 books which I’ve bought. I am extremely disappointed and appalled by this “discipline” taken within the hospital. If this is happening to a minority, I wouldn’t doubt it happening to adult patients as well. My advice to others, use this hospital’s in-patient services as last resort..

If I could give them 10+ stars I would. My brother has had bipolar issues for most of his adult life. Lynda Pettigrew has been by far the most caring person our family has ever dealt with. My brother’s well being was her utmost importance. When we would text her about specific concerns she would in an extremely quick manner. The thing I liked most was her invested interest in making my brother well again. When you love someone with bipolar the hardest thing to do is see them suffer. So many times our family has felt lost as what we should do next. Having someone like Lynda to dive into the underlying issue and take control of the matter was a God send to me and my family.

My roommate was sent here when Peoria had no beds. Since being there he has only been mistreated. Dr. Pettigrew has spent little time with him, insisted he did not need several tests even though he asked for them specifically. He has been misgendered and called the wrong name by most of the staff, even after correcting them and refusing to respond. After being refused testing, he was upset very visibly and he said he was very clearly in distress, a nurse came in screaming the wrong name and getting in his face when he was very clearly overwhelmed and upset. She made him take his meds then left, offering nothing else. He was told by another patient that Pettigrew told the patient to “rate us 5 stars” after doing the least to help him. There was a single useful nurse that didn’t force us to call him by his legal name before letting us talk to him (even when we offered the PIN number he was given). I was hoping there would be better doctors and staff in Chicago but I was clearly wrong.

Worst place to send or admit a patient to. This teaching hospital is woefully behind the times with what happens to be current psychological practices. The hospital is understaffed with some of the most uncaring professionals it can seem to find to work there. One psychological tech did not run his group to deal with any psychological issues but rather a forum as to how patients could have their laundry done. Dr. Sampathgiri kept me in the hospital so she could argue with my insurance company. This physician made it her goal to send me to a nursing home. I told her that my medical insurance would not cover the costs. She attempted to convince my insurance company that I should be allowed to go to a nursing home because “I am a good person” I am certain the insurance company laughed at her when they were finished. Students that lead groups left paperwork in places where patients could read this documentation. One group session led by students was where they tried to lead patients to draw a picture of a smiley face. They never really discussed any psychological issues - just cute games One psychological team member had a group that she lead about veneral diseases in which she could not pronounce their names correctly. A student came to see me one day wanting to administer all types of psychological tests (this took place during the later part of my stay) He was rude and only concerned that he could prove that he had administered so many tests to willing participants. On the day I was being discharged he came back to me wanting to administer more tests. When told no by me he sulked away On more than one occasion when meals were distributed a nurse would take the plastic wrapped cutlery and pop out the plastic knives. They would collect all these utensils and drop them in the trash I guess assuming that the patients did not need to use them. Personal hygiene is not something that is a high priority. (Most patients enter this facility without common items such as soap, shampoo, dental hygiene items) Sample size items of this sort are left out on the shower cart The distribution is first come first serve. I was left one day with the snotty comment by a nurse “That there is nothing wrong with using bar soap or body wash to wash hair with.” If one is lucky enough to obtain a bottle of shampoo and try and keep it in your room left on an open bookcase, a night nurse (whose job is to check on patients) most likely will take it during night rounds and place it back on the shower cart Equipment that the staff is left to use is broken or so outdated that they become so frustrated they take it out on the patients. I witnessed a patient left out in a hallway to sit and sleep on a used beanbag chair. This patient was abused by nursing staff and terrified. Doctors and nurses say they will do something for you but then do absolutely nothing (For example I had told the intake nurse that I was on anti inflammatory arthritis medication when I was admitted) I gave them the name of the medication but I was never given this medication during my stay. My joints were so stiff and sore be the time of discharge I could barely move When questioned after the fact they give excuses or blame another department. When I was discharged I was referred to a local behavioral clinic that would not assist me. The social worker at Heartgrove, Carmen Garza who I later spoke to about this matter could care less Find another hospital to treat you

If I could not apply 1 star, I would not. When a patient was initially admitted, I called to make sure the patient was alright. My call was transferred several times until I was able to speak to someone. The 1st employee I spoke to asked who I was and that the patient was alright. I asked how could I be in contact with the patient. He shared that I could call back to check on the patient, as the patient could not make outgoing calls. When I called at the time he provided me, a 2nd employee answered and stated that callers have to have specific information for identity purposes, in order for callers to be transferred. I then mention that the 1st person I spoke to, never even shared that information with me. The 2nd person apologizes for the mistake. I contacted a 3rd employee, I explained the phone calls with the 1st and 2nd employees, and I provided my contact information. The 3rd person informed me that I would receive a callback. I was just informed that the patient was able to make outgoing calls and received calls from other concerned people. The patient was never informed that I have been calling. Nor did any staff members place me on hold to receive patient consent to talk to the patient and to provide the identifying information for future phone calls. The 3rd person I spoke to, still has not contacted me at this time. To the employees at Hartgrove Hospital - please be courteous when it comes to concerned parties for your patients, please have overall respect and professionalism, please place yourself into the shoes of your patients or even concerned people that may have loved ones in an institution, and please say Goodbye and/or thank you for calling as the phone conversation is ending.

My son had to go here, hes 8 years old, (first time in his whole life he was ever away from me really) during Covid, so that meant, not only was I 3 hours away, I was also unable to see him. I was however allowed to call him and they allowed him to call me a few times. Ive read some of the reviews on this place and was scared and horrified at first, but also have a level of understanding about behavioral health facilities as well and I know that the staff in places like this get very overwhelmed, so please, try to give them the benefit of the doubt, I was so desperate for the help I needed for my son, and they delivered in spades. He has pretty severe ADHD, impulse control issues, and a mood disorder maybe? But to medicate for this, its best that professionals monitor new medications, especially highly controlled ones, because the patient may have a bad reaction to it and there would be trained medical staff on hand to deal with adverse reactions as opposed to them being home, with an adverse reaction and you may not know what to do. They helped my son to no end, one staff member, a male who i didnt catch his name figured out that my son needed to be in there conference room and on speaker to talk to me because he would hang up on me when I said i could not go there, or hed somehow mess up the phone call by pressing buttons on the phone. Another staff member, I cant remember her name, who it seemed helped him with the academics such as writing his letters and numbers actually seemed to have bonded with my son, they both cried when he was leaving, I think she was indian, but it was obvious my son just loved her and she was very fond of my son as well. I really feel that even though the whole situation of me having to make this choice to get the help ive been trying to get for him for years Hartgrove came through in spades for my son. I believed his Dr. was Dr. Coleman, and he called for permissions for his medication they wanted to try, as well as the dosage adjustments and any medication that needed to be added. The only complaint id say I have was the phone system, but maybe Im biased because of how much they helped my son, so I refuse to take a star away over the phone issues. I dont regret going to Hartgrove at all.

After many problems with our 5 year old daughter we had to have her put here for inpatient. It was the quickest way to have her evaluated and looked at. As a parent it was a very hard and scary ordeal for us. But it was either wait for an appointment to open up and pray she makes it at school or this. She was about to be put into a therapeutic school. She was hesitant at first about coming here but after the first day she was fine. She actually enjoyed it and did not want to leave. As a 5 year old she thought it was a vacation. All of her needs were met while there. We talked to her every day about 2-3 times a day. I visited her almost every day when able to. The doctors, nurses and staff did everything they could to help us understand what was being done and how she was. The intake lady was very nice and explained everything in details. Answered all my questions. The therapist that she was seeing was very nice and accommodating. I told her i wasnt comfortable not laying eyes on my child everyday and she made it so that i could see her almost every day. The only thing I did not like was that i did not receive much communication from my daughters psychiatrist. I know that she was busy but I would have liked more communication. My daughter was going to be put ok a medication and I would have liked to talk to the psychiatrist about it instead of the nurse that works for her. I was not pressured to sign anything to have my daughter there for any amount of time. I signed a 5 day paper that said she would only be there for 5 days unless i agreed to anything longer. After speaking with her psychiatrist we agreed to sign another since it was a weekend and they needed more time. But she came home after 7 days. She had no bruises, cuts, nothing. She doesnt drink milk snd they accommodated that. Shes a bed wetter and they also gave her pull ups. Made sure she showered by herself everyday and brushed her teeth. They keep the bedroom doors open 24/7. They matched her with a girl close to her age. We had problems real problems or concerns outside of normal parental ones. She has been doing much better but still has much growing to do. If you send your child here SIGN A 5 DAY CONSENT! And if you have to keep signing 5 day consents. This way they cannot keep your child without your consent. Ask lots of questions. I called the nurses station 3 times a day just to ask how my daughter was doing. They keep notes about any and everything there and can tell me everything and they were happy to do it. While she was there she developed bumps on her back probably from the lotion or soap and they allowed me to bring my own. Do not belive all of these negative reviews. Do what you have to do for your child. I did and i do not regret sending her here.

I must admit that i was a bit concerned regarding the location of Hartgrove. However; the warm welcome from the receptionist (Wanda W, and the cleanliness of this facility was a huge sigh of release. Also, Griselda R.(ESIC), sealed the deal for me. I have no more concerns, question; or worries. Now I can sleep at night knowing my great-nephew is getting the help he needs..Sincerely grateful,Fidelia Lindsey

Im seeing so many negative reviews. Mostly from past patients...youre not supposed to like it there. They are there to help you with your problems not be your buddy or baby you. As for personal experience I have no beef with the place in fact I prefer them over others, and here is why. My son has been there for a few months now and this is probably his 20+ hospitalization but first time at this hospital. The others would only care about $$$ so theyd shove pills down his throat and 3 days later he was back at home/school where he was back at ground zero. In other words they didnt care. This is the first place that legit didnt care about $$$ they care about getting him stable to the point where he is safe from himself and safe around others. The communication between parent and staff is fine Im usually really busy so I dont like being bothered with 20 calls a day. Are there times I have to play phone tag? Yes, but that is going to happen anywhere. Overall the best BH I have dealt with in years.

The Php program was a good experience for me, and I personally like the staff there they teach you real life things and tell you what you need to hear to be a better person in life and how to be respectful to your self. it really helped me and I’m sure if you listen to them, and give the program a chance I’m sure it would help a lot of others too.

I would like to give them 1 star for wait time(2 hours to get seen) however, once Griselda heard me complaining to the front desk, both the receptionist and Griselda in emergency services sprung into action and took care of us. Heartgrove is such a bad place. They disrespect the patients and give u very bad food. They also dont give u enough. I have been there 2 times and both times have me PTSD. The beds hurt so bad, they dont even let u have water in your room. I saw a staff choke slam a patient to the ground and he also let other patients make fun of me.100% waste of time/money. Only things u can do are watch TV or play bored games. You dont even get fresh air or fresh food.

The PHP girls program really helped me by teaching me the way to handle things the way that is effective enough for people to understand me in a way that would be nice. Also they are very nice people. They teach you self control, respectability, and they help you with a lot more than just being nice to people and telling you what to do. They actually really are nice people and they taught me to respect myself and others, not only that but to love myself too! I thank you guys for all the help and the shout out goes to Miss. Anixa, Miss. Alejandra, and Mr. Dajuan. they were really helpful in this program. I hope you all that are coming to this program or is thinking about coming for help, please do so. their lovely people once again they help you with what you want to be helped with. And dont ever look back at the way you were when you started, move ahead and you will enjoy. It is satisfaction guaranteed.Love,Jessika West

It really helped, people may be here saying its bad but really its up to the person to give some part of him/her to help themselves, dont expect the hospital to do it all for you, they are just there to guide you. The food is really good too, and they dont treat you bad theh are really nice and caring for each other, you dont feel alone because you hear other peoples problems and notice that you are not alone. And the reason why they dont get water in their rooms is because they could hurt themselves or someone else there, it is just for the safety of them.

My grandson was there twice and they brought him back to my mothers home when he was completely mentally unstable and dangerous. This place isn’t worth 2 cents as far as I’m concerned. He attacked my mother this morning and a family friend is taking him to another hospital where hopefully he will be committed. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

My child is a new patient, victim of trauma. On Saturday morning I received a call to ok a medication that had not be successful in past and I said no. I said I would be there for visiting in an hour and a half. When I arrived I found she had been given the medication and was so sedated that she could not get up to see me. It is disturbing that I was not allowed to visit her in her room or see the facility where she lives - I have been able to go to her room and see the facility in other hospitals so I don’t understand why this is denied here.It is disturbing that staff would not put her in a wheelchair to see me if she could not walk from the drugs. She called later in tears because she missed my visit. I finally after requesting for 48 hours was able to speak with the doctor- we agreed on a new medication. When I visited her Sunday both eyes were twitching and the nurse said they would discontinue the medication until I spoke with the doctor. The warning label said to discontinue if uncontrollable movement or twitching which could be TD an incurable disfiguring side effect. On Monday I called in and found she had again been given this medication- I waited for one hour on hold and was repeatedly disconnected, waiting to speak with the doctor who was not there. The only side effects the nurses note are when a patient is disruptive which can be the case of someone subjected to a crime like my child experience. I am want her to recover and it is disturbing that medication side effects are not monitored and the right to refuse is not honored. As a parent I try to be educated enough to look after my child’s safety - she really needs help. I hope she receives it. I have been waiting for 3 hours to speak with the doctor - the nurses kept changing stories on her medications. I hope she receives the trauma counseling sessions I was promised so she can safely travel without fear.

I wanted to officially thank Heartgrove Hospital for saving my life. I found out that I was Bi-polar and the genuine care and professionalism that I’ve felt from the staff has really changed my life forever. Dr. Poprawski is one of the best doctors I’ve ever met she is so personable and loving. She took one of the scariest points in my life and made it a positive. She is brilliant and personalized my medicine to make me feel normal again. I haven’t felt like myself in years and she has made my year. Rebecca my therapist is such a light to this place as well. I will miss all of them dearly and they have change my life forever including Paola, Ms. D, Baba ,Paul, Auto,Alex, Evaughn, Justin,Phoenicia, and Mary my social worker. This hospital is immaculate and is the reason why medicine exists. They deserve more than five stars. Tiara Marie Smith –Patient

I highly recommend the girls PHP. I did the PHP offered and found it the most helpful out of all 3 hospital programs i’ve been in. The staff i encountered at heartgrove (Ms. Anixa & and Ms. Alejandra) actually care and put effort into helping us get better unlike a lot of other hospitals. I definitely left the program in a much better place then when i entered it. 11/10 recommend!

My boyfriend is there and the staff lies and say it’s not phone times. I don’t understand why they have phone times and then they don’t allow people to call someone there. Place is run by mostly people who are ignorant and they aren’t professionals at all. Have your loved ones at a better facility. They tell you that they tell the person you want to talk to to cal you back but that’s a lie
