Front desk guard is rude, not wearing a mask, coughing in the open, more concerned with her personal video call than servicing the public. The office was un manned and clients not being taken care off nor informed of what was going on.

My experience is almost always good to very good. Whether its voting in an election, or today looking into getting information towards making an unemployment claim, the people are pretty professional. Ive been going there for about 10 years now. They also offer other services, such as job preparation, etc. In sum, its a good place to get help on the local and state level.

This is a very solid and functioning city building, which houses many City Services. This facility provides a useful place for trainings and function to occur, as well as provides city services.Staff are friendly and polite. They greet with a smile and are very courteous and helpful. As a public facility, some of the utilities are well used and may not be shiny and new. While it is a functional facility, do not expect luxurious amenities.Parking lot (fenced) is available. During some larger events, this lot can become full, so plan ahead. Some of the rooms can be unpredictable with temperature, so if attending, wear layers in case the room is too cold or warm for your taste.

As a National Park Historic Site, its a great place to visit, even for 15 minutes. Theres many things to explore and learn about, video footage, photos, interactive exhibits, and lifesize statues. Theres free parking across the street and a beautiful lining of red maple trees to the entrance of the building (we visited in the fall, so the leaves were beautiful). Bathrooms are available in the back of the lobby.

The King center is a valuable resource for the community. They have various departments to help with many daily life issues. What I dont like about the King center is that you have to fill out for a ticket and wait hours just to fill out forms that ask for extremely personal information for small things like a list of food pantries in the area. Wait time could be cut tremendously if they just had a rack for pamphlets or information you could just run in and out to get.

For a community center and social service places; They are not friendly or helpful. There was an older lady was welcoming and so inviting which made me feel much better. I appreciated her help. But this made me sad because we need ask ourself how are we contributing and are we thoughtful in helping within a community. Just smile!!! A smile can do a lot.

I attended Spring into Health & Wellness during National Minority Health Month by Peer Plus Education and Training Advocates, which Peer Plus is a registered non-profit in the state of Illinois. The event itself was held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Center Service Center, and I attended it solely because my internship site, EMAGES Inc took part in the event with a table display.During the event, I could not help but take notice of the many Marine Corps veterans after noticing their hats which was yet one of the things that made me comfortable at this event being that I am a veteran myself!.This event was positive, and very informative with representatives from Humana, Oak Street Health, EMAGES Inc, Body Genesis, AARP Foundation, and the list goes on. Literally, everyone, the volunteers and vendors that I encountered were very friendly, which made me feel very welcome overall. The vendors were informative of the services they offer along with having a display of pamphlets, treats, and some offering onsite service like diabetic testing, blood pressure screenings, PSA Screenings, HIV Testings, CEDA, Cancer information, etc.Prior to this event, I was not aware of National Minority Health Month, or let alone most of the vendors with table set ups, but after attending it I wish there were more events held because there are some neighborhoods around the city that need this positive energy and abundance of information in regards to health and wellness.Thomas G

The location of the center was buried easy for me to give to me but they could not help me with what I needed. I am partially blind and desperately need a new pair of glasses but cannot afford to pay the 20% that Medicare does not 😞 pay I applied for Medicaid and the pleasant young gentleman who assisted me at the King Center said I was not eligible 😒.

I HAD THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE AT THIS FACILITY. I WENT THERE TO TRY AND QUALIFY FOR SOME ASSISTANCE. ID COME THERE BEFORE AND BROUGHT BACK THE DOCUMENTATION THAT I WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING. BEFORE I EVEN GOT A CHANCE TO SIT DOWN IN THE CHAIR, THE CASE MANAGER NAMED PHYLLIS SLAUGHTER STARTED BARKING OFF QUESTIONS TO ME AS IF MY VERY PRESENCE WAS RUINING HER DAY. WHY ARE YOU HERE?!?! SHE BARKED. AFTER I EXPLAINED, IN A VERY RUDE TONE SHE SAID YOU HAVE TO PROVE THAT!! AS IF I WERE LYING TO HER. EVERY QUESTION SHE ASKED ME WAS IN THE PACKET THEY REQUESTED. I STATED THE PROOF IS IN THE PACKET YOU ALL REQUESTED. SHE NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT IT. SHE JUST KEPT BARKING QUESTIONS. WHEN I TRIED TO ANSWER HER SHE KEPT INTERRUPTING ME. IT WAS SO BAD THAT I ACTUALLY SAID. IM TRYING TO ANSWER YOU BUT YOU KEEP INTERRUPTING ME. SHE THEN SAID( IN A ILL FIX YOU TONE) LET ME JUST GO DOWN THE CHECKLIST. SHE PULLED OUT THE PAPERWORK AND CHECK STUBS AND THEN SHE SAID YOU DONT QUALIFY!! WHEN I ASKED FOR AN EXPLANATION, SHE SAID I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU WERE TOLD BUT THIS IS HOW IT GOES!! IN THE MOST RUDE CONDESCENDING TONE SHE COULD FIND. IF WE DIDNT QUALIFY THAT IS FINE. ITS NOT WHAT YOU SAY, ITS HOW YOU SAY IT. THIS CASE MANAGER PHYLLIS SLAUGHTER WAS THE MOST RUDE, DEMEANING, DISRESPECTFUL, UNPROFESSIONAL AND CONDESCENDING CASE MANAGER I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I USE TO BE A CASE MANAGER. I HAVE SEEN AND EXPERIENCED ALOT. SHE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! IT WAS VERY CLEAR THAT SHE HAD ZERO DESIRE TO NOT ONLY NOT HELP ME BUT WAS IN A HURRY TO TOTALLY DISMISS MY VERY PRESENCE FROM HER CUBICAL. WHEN I ASKED FOR MY INFORMATION SHE GATHERED IT TOGETHER AND QUICKLY RUSHED IT TO ME. I WAS IN TOTAL SHOCK AT HER BEHAVIOR!! FINALLY, AS SHE WAS TOTALLY IGNORING ME, I ASKED FOR ANY OTHER REFERRALS SHE COULD GIVE. SHE HANDED ME A SHEET AND SAID MAYBE THEY CAN HELP YOU. THEY DONT REQUIRE AS MUCH BUT THEY ARE ALL THE SAME. IJS. THEN SHE WENT BACK TO IGNORING ME TYPING ON THE COMPUTER ANGRILY.ITS EMPLOYEES LIKE HER THAT GIVE GOOD, COMPASSIONATE AND HELPFUL CASE MANAGERS A BAD NAME. SHE SHOULD NOT DEAL WITH THE PUBLIC. WHEN PEOPLE COME THERE, MANY TIMES THEY ARE AT THE END OF THEIR ROPES.THEY ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP. SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES ARE SUPPOSE TO AID CLIENTS IN GIVING AND FOSTERING HOPE NOT TEARING IT DOWN EVEN FURTHER. SHE LITERALLY LEFT ME FEELING COMPLETELY HOPELESS. ITS NO TELLING HOW HER BEHAVIOR COULD NEGATIVELY AFFECT A DESTITUTE CLIENT. SHE SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THIS DEPARTMENT. SHE CLEARLY DOESNT HAVE THE HEART FOR HELPING CLIENTS AT ALL. BEWARE OF PHYLLIS SLAUGHTER!!! SHE DOESNT CARE AT ALL. YOU ARE SIMPLY A NUMBER TO HER. THATS IT. THATS ALL!!

I went here to get information on becoming a CNA in IL. I have certifications in MN and WI. Everyone was great until I got to the job coach. She was very discouraging. Told me I wouldnt get a job in a hospital Id have to crawl first and start at a nursing home. I informed her I have five years experience as a CNA in MN & WI, she asked what makes me marketable in IL, thats there, what do I have to offer employers in IL. She then told me to remove the line under my personal info on my resume that separates my personal info from my Employment History. She told me to change Employment History to Work History and dont leave any spacing on resume to make it shorter. I explained if there is no white space on the resume, the info will be to bunched and look overwhelming to prospective employers. She wrote all over my resume, told me to make the corrections and come back when Im ready to take the T.A.B.E. test. I told her Id be back a week from the day I was meeting with her. She said you may want to study, the test is hard and Im not sure youll be ready in a week. I explained I was in school up until last semester and had received an A in college Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, Physiology and had completed all my pre-reqs for the nursing program. She then recommended another program that offers the CNA program free for everyone at Chicago State University.
