Referred to this practice for the endodontic specialist, Dr. Dao. I was overjoyed with his kindness. He told me everything he was doing during the procedure, kept me at ease, and asked me how I was doing during entire treatment. The staff was very friendly, as well.

What a nightmare, just because I questioned their THREE quotes for the same tooth, same procedure they cancelled my appointment and refused to be my dentist. In speaking with the OFFICE MANAGER, she was very condescending. On 10/16/20 I got my 1st quote for $515, then the day before my appointment on 11/12/20 they changed the quote to $865. I called and Ashley told me I would have to call my insurance company, I did and they said their quote was wrong, I called Ashley, she said I need to call the insurance company and do a 3 way call, but that they close at 5, and of course I didnt make it. So I wake up the day of my appt., called the insurance co., did a 3 way with the OFFICE MANAGER going back & forth, they changed the quote again to $690. I was still confused as to why the difference and she said the high noble metal to all 3 quotes?? I was so frustrated. Instead of them taking responsibility for there error, the OFFICE MANAGER had some other girl call to terminate me as a patient....unbelievable. I sure dont feel apart of their family....lol

I have been going to Plaza dental for the past few years. I’ll start off by saying I like the dentists.Last year they hired a new receptionist, Ashley. I recently canceled my dental insurance. When she asked how I was going to pay , I stated I was paying in cash. She gave me an up and down look like I couldn’t pay. It was quite awkward. Not a warm , professional person who deals with customers.Next two complaints. I took my youngest daughter to her annual exam and cleaning. The dental hygienist took five minutes to clean her teeth. I timed it and it took less than five minutes.Two days later my 13 year old had an appointment for her annual exam and cleaning. I cancelled the cleaning since I didn’t feel I got my money’s worth out of my youngers five minute cleaning. The doctor came in did an exam on my daughter. Gave me the good news that she didn’t have any cavities, but she needed braces as there was crowding. I immediately made an appointment with my orthodontist. She saw the orthodontist within two weeks of her annual exam. The orthodontist said my daughter had three cavities. He pulled up the pictures of these big black cavities. I said” how is it possible that her primary dentist missed three big black cavities?” I can understand if he missed one cavity, not three. The appointment with the orthodontist was within 14 days of the first appointment.At this point I will not go back to this office.Unprofessional front desk.In a hurry dental hygienist.Blind, incompetent dentist.Save yourself from the frustration.

Dr Dao said that he specialized in root canals and carefully explained the procedure at every stage. Told me to raise left hand if in pain and used what appeared to be state of the art devices efficiently. He has a trustable manner.

My wife has been coming here for 20+ years. Me for 10+. The last 3 or 4 times it was them pushing, pushing, pushing treatments as I was already paying for deep cleanings etc... The last straw was when they wanted me to fork over a couple thousand for optional treatments or they would not clean my teeth. THATS EXTORTION. No thanks. Walked out and will never give them a dime of my money again. This has become a money mill for these guys racking up treatments that might, or might not, be needed. Get multiple opinions from other dentists before forking over your hard earned money.

My former dentist sent me to Plaza Family Dental for a root canal. I was so impressed with everyone, from the front desk to the doctors and the assistants, that once I was through with that process we were in the midst of, I switched to Plaza.Dr. Dao has an absolutely sparkling personality, so even though he is performing a procedure no one looks forward to, he makes it as painless and easy as possible. I appreciate that.Every single hygenist, dental assistant or tech Ive met has been friendly and helpful. They actually seem to enjoy working there. Nice! Icing on the cake is the office staff. When I got a horrible toothache, they zoomed me right in and everyone worked together to coordinate the solution as quickly as possible.Going to the dentist is not my favorite thing, but all the folks at Plaza Dental make it a much better experience than I had had elsewhere.

Dr. Phan and her assistants are kind, knowledgeable, and personable. Also, Plaza Dental has amazing service recovery, especially with the lady who works at the front desk- her desk is towards the back of the front desk, in the corner near the window. Maybe shes the account/billing manager? She rectified a financial conflict I had with another front desk lady by being patient, understanding, and actually listening to me. That other front desk lady, on the other hand, has long blond hair, did not want to listen and more retaliated against my bill (the total amount exceeded the amount I actually agreed to and signed prior to having the service done; on a side note- I appreciate how Plaza Dentals policy is to have the patient agree to any charges before going through with the procedure). Hence why I knocked off a star. Aside from her, Plaza Dental has been pretty transparent and flexible. Ive been recommending to others as well!

Hygenist was excellent..numbing shots did not hurt , no spraying all over when deep cleaning and she was fast and thorough. Woman at the front desk check-in was very helpful in explaining and answering the question I had on my treatment sheet. All in all it was a pleasant experience.

My tooth cracked 2 weeks ago during COVID lockdown. I switched insurance so I was between dentists as my new insurance and my old dentist were not friends. I chose Plaza Family Dental as my new dentist but hadn’t been there yet. I was starting to fear my tooth would shatter before the end of lockdown so I made an appointment. Since we are in lockdown, there are no exams...had to go straight for the emergency crown as my introduction to the office. Dr. Phan is awesome! She explains every step and constantly checks on you throughout the process. All the staff I encountered were really nice too! Love my new dentist!

Casey Durazo is an OUTSTANDING and very professional dental hygienist, at the Plaza Family Dental Group, in Carlsbad. Shes the main reason I go to Plaza Family Dental. She knows what shes doing plus she has a great personality! Youll be more than pleased if you ask for her as your dental hygienist.

This visit was for cleaning. Casey is a fabulous hygienist! Very thorough and friendly! No “ Oh my gosh” when she looks into your mouth! That is nice. I had a veneer that fell off and Dr. Murphy made time to set it back in place right there. Wonderful visit. Everyone friendly and low key. No surprises! I like that! I was supposed to have my next cleaning on Jan. 27th (or later). When I made the appointment, the receptionist let me make it 2 weeks earlier so it would be over my winter break. She never mentioned that my insurance would charge 4x as much if I did it before the 6 month mark.About 3 months ago I discovered I was pregnant. Not wanting to be 6 months pregnant going to the dentist, I moved my appointment up to be over my Thanksgiving break. When I did that, nobody told me my copy would be 4x as much as usual.The day before my appointment I got a confirmation call for my appointment. At no point during that call was I informed that my copay would be 4x as much since it was before the 6 month mark.My understanding is that my insurance covers 2 cleanings per year, but doesn’t have to be exactly 6 months apart.When I showed up and checked in the receptionist informed me that my copay would be $83 instead of $20. I questioned why and she said that because my appointment was before the 6 month mark, they had to charge me far more than I usually pay. I questioned the rationale since I get it covered 2x per year but the receptionist said it had to be 6 months apart, not a day earlier.My husband called (I’m a super hormonal pregnant woman right now who can cry at any moment and I was NOT about to cry at the dental office). He expressed his frustration because he has been able to go in every 4-6 months and has never been charged more than $20 for a cleaning. The receptionist informed him that he has different insurance. We have the exact same insurance, I’m under his insurance. When asked why the office didn’t tell me of the higher copay during any of the appointment calls, the receptionist said, “It’s not our responsibility to tell her of the higher copay. She should know that or call her insurance.” Why would I ever think to call my insurance if nobody raised a red flag?! You guys deal with this day in and day out, wouldn’t this be something to inform your customers about?Back to me at the receptionist...Frustrated with the huge copay and lack of care from the office lady, I told her that I would be cancelling my appointment and would need to reschedule it when I have my planner in front of me to check availability. She then informed me that I would have to pay a $20 cancellation fee. I was there. In front of her. Ready to do the appointment. However, due to her lack of informing me of the copay 4x as high as usual over our multiple conversations, I was going to have to cancel. Not once did she apologize. Not once did she express any empathy. Not once did she seem to be supportive at all.I don’t think I should have been charged a cancellation fee and if it weren’t for the fact that I was on the cusp of crying, I would have stayed and fought it. I think your office dropped the ball and I am taking the hit for it.So yes, I’m disappointed at the terrible service. I’m disappointed in the lack of knowledge in your office staff. I’m disappointed that they didn’t share information that they clearly knew. I’m disappointed that I was charged $20 for something that was out of my control. I’m disappointed with how your front office employee treated me and spoke to my husband.

I just got home from a cleaning with Dr. Murphy and a rude hygienist. I don’t really care that Murphy has the personality of a dish rag, but this is the roughest cleaning Ive ever had. Ive had the deep cleanings where they use the high pressure water instrument and some kind of sharp tool, and it has never been this rough, plus I got water spraying over my face the whole time, wet hair and he didnt even get all the stain off my teeth. I asked the hygienist who was there to finish the job about getting the rest of the stain off, but she said my teeth were too crowded and they couldnt get in there. Strange because every other dentist Ive ever been to has been able to get in there. The first time I went to see him I got some fillings between the gum and the root where my gums are receding. It was never smoothed out properly and has bugged me for the last four months so I asked him buff it down and he thought the rough filling was done by some other dentist. The only barely nice people in the office are the ones scheduling the appt and giving the estimates. However, the estimates I got were way off and I had to pay a lot more than I expected. I will never go back.

VISIT YELP & GET THE TRUE REVIEWS & PLEASE READ BE4 CONSIDERING FAMILY PlAZA DENTAL AS YOUR PRIMARY DENTIST!I had work done here and both procedures were unsuccessful. I scheduled an appointment to explain the problems associated with the errors in both procedures. The crown was placed incorrectly, leaving a space in-between the crown and the tooth next to it placed by Dr. Murphy ( keep in mind I brought with me x rays taken by a different dentist who agreed that the root canal and crown done by family plaza dental was done poorly causing an infection and as a result the root canal needed to be retreated). DR. Murphy took offense to what I had to say and refused to replace the crown. He then told me I should talk to Dr. Dao who performed the root canal and scheduled a visit to come back. I came back a week later and to my surprise ALL STAFF from the front desk to the dental assistant treated me with disrespect in knowing that I had come in a week prior to see Dr. Murphy. I was very disappointed in how Dr. Dao treated me as well. Dr. Dao insisted that they were not at fault and said I do not specialize in crowns, I am a surgeon and I cant say for sure if the crown was done correctly or not even after I explained to him a second opinion from a private dentist who took x Rays. He then said dont believe everything you hear, I can tell you for certain that a gap in between the crown and tooth next to it will not cause an infection WHAT?!?! I did not go to dental school; however I am educated enough to know that after a root canal is performed, the final crown is very important and must be sealed and adjusted accordingly in order to make sure the root canal is a success. I asked to see the final x rays after Dr. Murphy put my final crown on and Ashley at the front desk (very rude and siding with both Murphy and dao) said that they do not have the x-rays after the final crown was placed and that they must have accidentally deleted it. Dr doe then stated he would ask the owner if they would redo my crown and would let me know. 10 minutes later, Ashley at the front desk came in to say they would give me a discount and I would need to pay $550. I refused and asked if I could speak to dr. dao one last time regarding an explanation of the infection along my gum line. Ashley said she would ask and came back saying Dr. Dao said he is done talking to you and is now busy with other patients. I said politely, I can wait. Ashley proceeded to say the wait time may take a while and I said that is okay. 10 minutes later a dental assistant came in and very rudely said your consultation is up, you need to go just like that. My wife and I were very shocked and I said I still had questions for Dr. dao. She then said he does not want to talk to you and your consultation is over, leave.I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I began to think, is it because I am in-between jobs with no insurance? Is it my skin color? why would they treat someone who had spent $3000+ on 2 procedures in which both failed due to their negligence in such a way? The reason for this long review is to inform anyone who is searching for dentist to know how family plaza dental only cares about financial gain and not a patients well being. I now have 2 infections because of them and they showed no compassion for any of my concerns. I feel betrayed, disrespected and when asked to speak to the owner, I was told he was not available and that he would call me. That was 2-3 weeks ago and I have not received a single phone call or email. I will be writing a complaint letter to the dental association board along with proof in how family plaza dental took advantage of a college student with limited financial means who thought he was in good hands in getting work done by both Murphy and doe but instead still suffering from their negligence and lack of care to make it right.

This place is a complete rip off. I dont know how I could have been so stupid to sign a treatment agreement for $8000 before the work was even started. They told us everything would be included, the extractions, the bone treatment, gum surgery and permanent dentures. Well when the gum surgery was complete and we went in for more treatment and asked about the permanent dentures, they told us all the treatment in the agreement was complete and anything else would be new and charged extra. I actually put the whole balance on their Care Credit card service. Now they say the treatment is done but I will be paying on this credit card for another year and a half. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING before treatment... better yet, DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST OFFICE. Its a money pit!!!!
