This is a beautiful place to camp for a few days! The view was amazing!! There are a lot of squirrels so make sure you’re food is put away, we got a lot of bees the last day we were there too! Just keep your site clean and you should be fine! Access to the beach and clean bathrooms and showers, though there were some big spiders in there! Will definitely camp here again!
Just lovely! So relaxing! I do wish it was easier to get in, but greedy people go in and reserve spaces just in case then cancel. I dont know the answer, but felt very lucky to score one night here. Double space meaning full hookups and room for 2 RVs in same space! 50/30/20 amp plus water and sewer and ocean front space with breathtaking Pacific Ocean view. Park sports a nice camp store, stairway down to the beach and even a snack bar with Pizza. Dont feel like roughing it? Easy drive to tons of great restaurants too!
Pretty beautiful sunsets, the sites are nicely appointed at the cliffs edge. The Ranger at the entrance was super nice and made everyone feel safe. The facilities here are some if the nicest Ive seen at any campground, super clean and well maintained. Located close to shops and restaurants in Leucadia and Carlsbad. Definitely hot up Fish 101 and in less than 10 minutes, you can enjoy fresh fish...fireside, while you sip a cocktail and watch the sun set under the ocean.Definitely make a reservation, these spots are highly desirable and if you just show up hoping for a space...you will be very disappointed.
We stopped at the beach when we 1st got into town after driving from Las Vegas. I love walking on the sand. Of course I had to find seashells. And we found a sand dollar 🐚. They keep the beaches ⛱ very nice and groomed. A great visit always 😊
Fun place to stay. Wish more sites had full hookups. I was not able to get to the beach because of a broken foot, and there are hundreds of steps to go down to get to the beach. But the family had fun, and watching the waves and water from the cliffs was still nice. There are no bad days at the beach.
This is our family’s favorite campground in or near San Diego. It’s difficult to get a reservation, at least for the bluff side spots. However, not impossible if you are willing to try. You must book 6 months (exactly) ahead of the date on ReserveCalifornia.com.Honestly all the sites are great and worth it. We prefer the North End sites as they are generally larger and the beach is sandier. On the South End, the ramp down to the beach is nice (compared to the huge stairs for the rest of the park), but the beach is very rocky, so not a great option if you have kids wanting to play in the sand. All the facilities are well kept. Recently the store received a major remodel and now includes a snack bar with an impressive wine and beer list and basic food items. It has very nice outdoor setting as well.
Small park with clean baths and showers. Great view of the water but not wasy access to the beach.
Must bring shade as sites are in the direct sun. Stairs access only to the beach. A lot of rocks right now so recommend Beach shoes. Fire pits are tall and have a partial grill gate, bring your own BBQ if needed. Shower requires tokens for purchase. Additional cars for a fee. It was wonderful to listen to the waves at night and slept in a tent with the screens open. We had a beach site, the chain link fence blocks tbr view while sitting for safety on the bluff but when standing you are right on the ocean. Goegeous! Camp store staff was friendly and helpful. We didnt try the restaurant but I heard him recommend the burgers and wings. Great place for families.
Wonder place to camp. Super clean and beautiful. We came from San Francisco and we we not disappoint.
This is urban camping and at 35$ per night. 2 stars for the 2 minute walk to the beach, 1 star for cleanliness and running water services. -1 star for not a spot of shade found for your tent. -1 star for the hoards of people constantly walking and biking 10 feet from your campsite at the brink of dawn talking about their yoga class, -1 star for the traffic you can hear all day and night. Beautiful place, but I prefer dispersed camping.
Great place. Weather always nice, rain or shine. North side beaches best for kids. Always clean, not always quick to check in. But all good here.
Amazing coastal view. Great food and brews. Wine too!. Fully stocked Camp store. Tasty sweet treats for dessert.
It is a good campground. The beach has turned to rocks. The bathrooms and showers are decent, but people can keep them cleaner.
Super nice well maintained state park camp grounds. Clean bathrooms with flush toliets. Hot showers for nominal fee. Over looking carlsbad beach. What more can you ask for?
The Campstore @ South Carlsbad State Beach.THE place to be at sunset in South Ponto for good food, drink and music
Very nice place for a quick overnight or long stay. Local Pizza places will deliver if you want. The reservations web site will always show you that its mostly full unless you look several months out, but there are ALWAYS empty spots if you want to try day-of...you just have to wait till after 2pm to ask them.
It was as expected so I can’t say too much about it. But no laundry in the winter months so don’t expect to wash your clothes. The privacy isn’t all there either, the bushes are dying and patchy (even after all of the rainfall this passed few months). There is a train that passes by and has to blow their horn at intersections (not their fault but just beware). Beautiful view (if you get a slot closer to the water)
Good place to beach camp with family but if your visiting someone there and you party to late , good luck getting out of the place after 8 oclock...
Great place to RV. Most of the sites are large and can accommodate multiple vehicles. Although there is a limited number of hookup sites. So basically you are dry camping most of the time. They do have showers, sink basins, places to get more water, and a central dump station. There is access to the beach, but the beach is a little rocky in this area. Overall a good place to book if you can get a spot.
Drove up for a day of site and lucked out. Brought our 35 RV and parked it overnight on the beach side for under $60! Site had a table and fire pit if we needed it, but we were just passing through. There were bathrooms with showers near our site and the grounds even have a dump station available (even to public) for $10. We got to see dolphins surfing, pelicans gliding and a seal playing in the waves the morning we woke up at the Carlsbad State Beach. What a beautiful site to visit and take the family.
Nice spot between San Diego and LA to pull up to the beach and relax. Website says max 35 feet. We fit a 40 footer and two cars on our site with plenty of room left for a campfire/picnic area. This is mostly dry camping though...only a few spots with hookups as with most of the state beaches in California.
Very clean campground and beach. Still open with closure of all State parks. With “pandemic” rules if your neighbors don’t show the State won’t fill the slot. We’ve been done here 4 days so far with no neighbors on either side. Bathrooms and showers cleaned all day. Multiple camp hosts patrolling all day. Rules are adhered to. Very nice stay. All spots are “rated” for 35’ trailers. Few spots are very short side to side (width) this is a 27’ in spot 157 with my truck on the road (barely).
Great campground. Right on the bluffs overlooking the beach. Clean bathrooms and hot showers.
Nice this time of year. Not too crowded, but still full of enough RVs and people to keep it interesting, lol. 😊
This was our first time trailer camping with our first trailer. The spaces are all amazing with plenty of space and privacy. The views are amazing! I suggest spending a few more bucks for the ocean side view. The entire campsite is the cleanest Ive ever seen in a campground. Bathroom facilities are abundant and soooo clean!! Definitely scheduling future visits.
I cant say enough great things about this place! We had premium and just an excellent time. The grounds are very clean even the public bathrooms/showers were clean. The view is INCREDIBLE. I am a San Diego native and was in awe the entire time. Ive visited Hawaii several times and I was in awe. We woke up to dolphins and whales every morning and the sunsets were spectacular.
I visited friends that were camping. Great location, campers seemed a little close together, but hey it was the fourth of July.
A little piece of heaven. Just the best time.
Had a nice time. No train to keep you awake at night like some other camp spots along the coast. They are very strict about the 2pm check in time, same as other parks. Hardly any trees, so Id bring an umbrella or some sort of cover to stay out of the sun. Campsite is up on the bluffs above the beach. The large staircases down to the water have little benches to take a rest on the way back up. Beautiful views, clean facilities and a nice selection at the camp store. Site also has laundry room, which I didnt use so Im not sure if they take quarters or function well. Id go back for sure!
As always a supa amazing camp ground. Beautiful beach and nice spots. Do have to be very careful to lock your things up at night. Expensive items will be stolen
The beach was lovely, campsite was clean and bathrooms seemed well maintained. The only part we didnt realize was that it was literally in the city and not camping at all haha. On one side, you have the ocean, the other side was a traffic light and condos. It felt more like homeless living in the city than camping lol. Still! We managed to have a good time. Will go again, just not with the expectation of camping in the traditional sense.
Rocky beach. Crowded. Bathrooms are kept clean. Store is being redone, will be nice when finished. Signs all over about stuff getting stolen.
The Carlsbad stage is a tad bit expensive, as price is calculated by person, but a very worth it area to have a meeting, concert, event or just to party. The view of the ocean is in of itself beautiful, and I would highly recommend it.
This is a very clean and awesome place. We go here at least twice a year.
South Ponto beach, best In Carlsbad.. lovely scenery and nice warm sun
I really loved the visit here, so peaceful and beautiful. Looking to visit again soon. 🌟
Cool Summer nights camping out on yhe waters edge...nothing compares to going to sleep & waking up to the soubd of the ocean. ...i coukd just live here.
Was a beautiful spot for Labor Day weekend
VERY NICE PLACE TO CAMPING OR JUST TO HAVE A GOOD TIME SWIMMING OR SURFING, BATHROOMS AND SHOWRS VERY CLEAN...AND A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL ROCHS (I like to go to the beach, river or lake a look for rocks 😍)
I really wanted to give this place one star so people wont see how beautiful this spot is!! Its difficult to get reservations 😆 This has been one of my favorite spots as long as I can remember.
Wonderful family campground by the ocean. Camp store carries many camping supplies.
The mile+ long campground is perched on a high bluff. Campsites are roomy and even the roadside sites have ocean views. Stairs to the beach are conveniently located at several intervals. Traffic noise during the day, but has been quiet at night. Well maintained and clean.
Always nice at S. Carlsbad state beach! This time met up with local artist Nathan Ledyard to pick up a freshly completed commissioned piece
This place is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever camped! Can’t wait to go back!
Wonderful place camp out, spaces are fitted for any size RV
Amazing view, some full hookups, decent price and close to everything!! Has several stairways down to the beach from the campsite.. Ive wanted to stay here for over a decade but it is always booked up, finally did and am not disappointed!!
Right along the beach. A bit pricey for a campsite but facilities are good and youre paying for the view.
Great location for camp site! No guests allowed, and parking is extremely limited. Very difficult to get spaces.
Great place to camp! I love this spot. The prices are great and the location is beautiful! Showers and restrooms are easily accessible and very very clean. We will def be back next month for sure!
Great campsites!! This is campsite #209. Family friendly, dog friendly, everything friendly. Clean restrooms and affordable hot showers. Theres also a little shop within the campgrounds to accomidate most camping needs that you may have forgotten.
Go there every year and love it!
Great campground
Nice camp ground well kept. Too bad the beach adjacent to it does not allow dogs.
Lovely place, Im just kinda upset they didnt allow dogs on the beach. They have good reason but I was looking forward to seeing how my dog reacted to the beach for the first time. Oh well.
Easy campgrounds, clean bathrooms, friendly and helpful staff! Definitely get the ocean view if you can; few things are better than waking up to that expansive horizon.
Very helpful park officer
Great location and the view is amazing
Great place for camping and relaxing.
Possibly good but management incompetent, no walk-in, even when theres spots available, making a political discussion about it, instead of doing something good. Congrats, this is one more way how not to make things great.
A great accommodation option if your looking for beach or Legoland
Beautiful beach! It is a trek down a long set of stairs. During high tide there is very little sand and it is very rocky. Bring shoes. But during low tide there is plenty of sandy beach to build sandcastles and ink your toes in the sand. Plenty of nearby restaurants if you need to pick up food.
Installed the first solar panel with semper Solaris on lifeguard Tower number 25. First lifeguard Tower in California to have off-grid power Monumental day done in Carlsbad California
This campground is fantastic. Its 1.2 miles long with all spots near the cliff overlooking the ocean. Many washrooms and showers. Multiple beach access paths.
Its great here, itd be great place to have a weekend date!
Love coming here every morning
Less developed beach, but getting more and more developed. Beautiful.Hilton across the street.Beach tends to be quite rocky. Regularly decent surf.Fun for families.
