Re: Dr. Patni and NP Patel. Do not be expected to be taken seriously here if you are young or have a history of mental illness. At my first visit I saw the NP. I was/am very sick. I lost 15 lbs in a week, was fainting, heart racing, bp fluctuating, couldnt eat, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhea, lips turning blue, etc. Improved upon sitting. When I got there, my heartrate had been at 135 bpm for an hour and a half and I was having issues standing, speaking, and felt like I was about to pass out. Reception was amazing- they got me back immediately. However.. the nurse who brought me back for the immediate eeg asked me what I was on and what did they give you in an annoyed, irritated tone and kept repeating it, acting like I was lying when I said I wasnt given anything. It didnt register to me then that she assumed I was on drugs. So that was later hurtful. Then NP Patel came in.. pretty much automatically assumed that because I have PTSD, I was just experiencing that. I told her I am in remission and have no symptoms, that I have had PTSD for my whole life and have no stress currently, other than being sick. She agreed to run bloodwork and give me a neuro referral upon my request. Said it might be absence seizures.. which did not fit my symptoms at all. But I waited for the results. I got a message over the portal, addressed to the wrong name, that it was stress. I messaged back and got a generic Im sorry you feel this way. That weekend, I had an episode where I had extreme difficulty speaking and cognitive functioning after. Their on call dr said to go to the ER and that that was bad, but NP Patel told me it was stress. I dont make a lot of money, so I didnt go. Follow up appt: Saw Dr. Patni. He immediately went to its because youre bipolar. There is nothing medically wrong with you, so there is nothing we can do. We cant help you and told me to see my psychiatrist. I told him I am not, that I have PTSD, but am symptomless and my therapist can clear me. He argued with(at) me very condescendingly, about how this was all PTSD, that I didnt know what I was talking about. Mansplained PTSD to me. This was great because, as aforementioned, I have PTSD. I told him he was wrong- Im not bipolar. He kept telling me I was lying and told me to send over my psychiatric records. He asked why l I was on lamictal- my epilepsy medication from childhood that I never went off- and used that to imply I was lying This made me upset. I asked him why he would need my records if there was nothing medically wrong and there was nothing he could do.. I recieved no answer to that, he just kept babbling about PTSD.. which told me he wasnt going to take me seriously because of the mental illness. He also asked me what my trauma was, like it was relevant or any of his business. He left, agreed to give me the neuro referral(I was already supposed to have it..?) and told me to sign forms to get my psych records. (I didnt.) I also heard him trash talking me in the hallway with a nurse, which was the final straw. Even if it was mental illness(it wasnt), I was polite, respectful, and barely said anything. There was no need to gossip about how crazy I am. That is rude and unprofessional.I went to a neurologist AND saw my psychiatrist and they both individually diagnosed me with POTS(Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), in one session. Not PTSD at all. Basically, my blood doesnt circulate correctly, so when I stand up, it has trouble getting to my brain, which is why when I sit down, it gets better. I saw this practice twice with Dr. Patni on my case both times. I was dismissed due to my mental health record.

Dr patni is a very affectionate doctor, he is my mothers primary care doctor. He takes his time to understand the patient and their problems, he always keeps up with appointments; to the point that, one day she missed her appointment, and he personally called to check in if everything was fine.
