Ive been on the search for a good, reliable curly salon for YEARS since starting the curly girl method and Ive finally found it! Shan is amazing. He listened to what I wanted and explained what he was doing while he was doing it. I even learned some new tips to use and some great recommendations for products.He keeps everything in the salon very clean and safe, always wearing a mask, using sanitizer, and limiting the people in the space.I would 100% recommend him to any curly person out there!

The staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and kind, and they do INCREDIBLE work! I had a terrible haircut about a year ago from another salon thats still growing out and Antonella has done a wonderful job shaping my hair and undoing the damage they did. Anyone with curly hair knows how difficult it is to find a good hairdresser, let alone an entire salon full of them! Every time I go, every client walks out looking amazing. I never feel like anyone is trying to sell me unnecessary products and the cut/color prices are hard to beat. Thank you all for a great haircut experience!

Antonella rescued my dying curls! I just got a fabulous haircut, and it was very efficient for a Deva process. I live in Miami but will be planning my haircuts around trips back to Boston. Also, a very sweet member of the team waited with me for 20min after the shop closed, since my ride was late.

I absolutely love this place. I go to school in NYC, but I refuse to go anywhere else. I’ve had some bad experiences elsewhere, meanwhile they are so consistently AMAZING. If you’ve got curly hair, you know how nerve wracking it is to get a haircut—will you leave looking cute, or like a frizzy poodle?? Luckily, at Shan Hair I had no such worries. My stylist Mikayla (a DevaCurl certified specialist) was a master at shaping my unruly curls, taking her time with each section of hair and really listening to what I wanted from the cut. After my haircut I got a shampoo and recommendations for products that would work for my specific curl type! 10/10 would recommend :)

It has been over a month since I got my haircut at Shan Hair Salon. I am relatively new to the Boston area and had put off finding someone new to take care of my hair, for a while. After a lot of research, I finally decided to make an appointment with this salon. Now when I originally called to schedule an appointment, I was told that they were too busy and that I’d need to go online to schedule. That made me a little nervous considering I had never been to this location and would of liked to directly speak to someone about what I was getting done before I went in. Despite being hesitant at first, I scheduled an appointment for a DevaCut a week from that point. I suppose I should state the condition of my hair before I got it done. It had been well over two years since I had anything done to my hair. Yes...two full years. My hair is naturally curly but overtime my curls turned more into waves and the ends were completely fried from applying too much heat. My dead ends were probably and inch or so long and so pin straight that I couldn’t wear my natural hair down anymore. You can only imagine how ready I was for this cut!! So the day of my appointment came. When I entered the salon, I was greeted by who I am assuming is Shan. He was extremely pleasant and told me to have a seat and feel free to get comfortable while I wait. The salon itself was really cute, cozy and I appreciated the cleanliness. If you’re someone who tends to get overwhelmed by big salons with tons of people walking around, then this is definitely a great place for you. Not only is the salon nice, but you can tell that the staff have a genuine respect for one another and seem to have a great relationship with their regulars. Fortunately for me, my stylist was Antonella. Right off the bat I knew that my hair was in good hands. She was extremely friendly, personable, and obviously had knowledge of what she was doing. I told her that I obviously wanted to remove all of my dead ends and keep my hair so it’s at least touching my shoulders. It was my first time ever experiencing a DevaCut and honestly, I don’t know why I ever let anyone cut my hair differently. This is by far the best haircut I have ever had in my adult life. Over the years I have suffered through some bad cuts which is why it even took this long to get it done. Antonella did a killer job and because of her I finally don’t feel insecure about my hair anymore. I’ve gotten so many compliments since then and will definitely be revisiting for my next cut!!

Shan is an Artist!

My hair type is 3c/4a and I scheduled a deva cut and partial pintura highlights with Mikayla. The cut took about 30 mins, and she decided that using foil for the highlights would show the color better so I just let her do her thing. So the result ended up being more like regular highlights, with big chunks of my hair being the new color rather than looking like pintura highlights (especially on the top and bottom of my hair, the very bottom is basically entirely black).Overall its not bad, I still think its cute and I really like the color, its just not really what I wanted. And its awkward to say this to a stylist whos been working on your head for a while, and she was nice, so I decided to wait till I got home and washed/prepped my hair myself. Im not sure where the $240 price came into play. (I also accidentally pressed 15% tip lol so it came up to $276, but I let it be, that was my fault).I definitely expected more hair care in general for that price. The cut was 30 mins of her quickly parting my hair (which created LOTS of breakage due to how quickly she pulled through it, curly girls know you have to spread slowly while parting to prevent breakage), and cutting a couple inches. I cant recall her doing any cutting when it was out as a fro, just in parts. Then she did the foil highlights, and of course a wash afterwards. There was no treatment applied, when I felt her rubbing something in and asked what it was, she said it was gel, which I wouldve stopped from happening if I knew beforehand, since I dont use gel at all. Then I went straight into the dryer for a bit.Id rather give a 3.5 star rating but thats not possible... Just because I dont hate it.

Shan and all the other stylists are amazing and talented. i have tight curly thick hair and shan and toriah always make my curls look like perfection with each deva cut. would highly recommend to any curly haired queen looking to freshen up their look!

Hair cuts are great. Atmosphere though can be a bit entitled when it comes to customers meeting diva curl preliminary requests. I had placed my hair in a clip while biking to an appointment once and after Shan watched on as the associate let me know that my curls needed to be unaltered (which meant not wearing a clip), he took the initiative of coming over to let me know again of the salons policy. He did not say hello, or introduce himself but asserted that this was a salons policy and not to come to another appointment wearing a clip again. His tone was demeaning and kind of abrasive. I felt like he had placed their standard of regulations on achieving an excellent cut (that I was paying for) over their treatment of their customer as a person. Instead of feeling uplifted, I left feeling put down as a person when I left that day. I will not be returning to the Shan Hair, though the other stylists there have been nice from my experience.

Shan is hands down the absolute BEST in Boston when it comes to curly hair. Run to see him (if you can get an appointment), you will be so glad you did!

I recently moved to Boston, and decided to try out Shan Hair based on the great reviews. I got a DevaCut from Antonella, and was very disappointed with the results. I had long hair, about halfway down my back, and told her I just wanted to trim off the dead ends and add in more layers. Before she started cutting she showed me that she was going to cut it to be about 2 inches above my chest and I agreed. I walked out of the salon with shoulder length hair. She basically finger combed and stretched all the curls out of my hair before cutting it, which I feel totally defeats the purpose of a DevaCut. My hair is curlier at my crown than in the back, which I warned her about, but since she had stretched out my curls before cutting I ended up with uneven layers that look very unflattering.Honestly, I pretended to be happy with the haircut while I was there. I was just too shy to say I didnt like it, and the damage was already done by the time she styled my hair and I realized how short it was. I learned an expensive lesson, and will not come back to this salon again.

Please be patient and wait for Shan lol. He had a long waiting list so I decided to get my first Devacut in Somerville. The girl did a horrible job to the point other professional even noticed like when I would try and get my hair straighted. This time I went to Shan and he did an amazing job at fixing the damage and keeping the length. Thank you Shan! He used the Arc Angel Defining Job on my hair and spritzed something else on it. The hold was amazing! Love it!

I am extremely disappointed by this place! Would not recommend it to anyone! They might be professional, but the way they treat clients is diminishing, unjust, louche and dishonorable. I have never written a negative review, but this experience made me feel really frustrated . They charged me wrongly for an appointment that i made 8 months ago without any reminders- calls, texts or emails. Hard to believe that a reputable place would have such inadequate policy and rude tactics to simply hunt to get money from you. As a local resident, and with all sincerity, avoid this place to not fall victim of their policy and service!
