In March I had a problem. I called this office to verify they would be able to help me - they assured me they would. when I met with the provider I explained to her everything I had done at home. she then went to her computer and spent 20 minutes looking things up only to come back and tell me to do everything I had told her I had already done! by then I was in so much discomfort I went immediately to the ER and ended up staying the night.I called the next day to make my complaint and told them not to bill my insurance or me. I was told they had to bill my insurance. now they refuse to write off the balance! you must call the corporate office for billing and each time I have spent 20 minutes on hold waiting for someone!I can assure you I will not go back to American family care when there is a TrustCare just down the road!

Dont waste your time unless you have time to waste. I was told by them, they do rapid test and get results in 15 min. I get there and they say, wait 2hrs in the lobby before you can get the test. Two days Ive wasted dealing with this place. Better off making an appointment with someone else after all.

Nice staff, and I was seen quickly. However, I then received a bill for multiple unnecessary tests that were completely unrelated to my visit, and that I was not informed would be run nor did I consent to. Ended up having to file a complaint with my insurance company, and BCBS seemed to resolve the issue. My husband also went to have some stitches removed after surgery, and ended up having a bill sent to collections that he never once received an invoice for. They seem to have issues with their accounting records and insurance billing.

The Dr. here is an amateur and a hack. Tested negative for Covid and he sent me on my way without treating my symptoms. In the 24+ hrs since, my temperature has been between 100 and 102.3, experiencing fatigue, soar throat, headache... pretty simple stuff to treat, but this guy is clueless and doesnt know how to do his job. The result has been my own suffering. Thanks for nothing.

My experience with American Family care has been extremely frustrating. I was seen for a COVID test in June 2020 and waited in my patient room forever because they forgot they had put me in one, even though it was a relatively quiet day. I get that such things happen, but the real frustration has been their billing department. First, they/VIVA billed me directly for part of the COVID test, even though the CARES act specifically states that patients have ZERO cost sharing for the tests AND associated office visits/treatment. This was not a rapid test, but an antibody test, and I had confirmed with my insurance provider beforehand that the test and all associated charges would be covered without a deductible, etc.After I received the surprise bill from AFC, I was reassured that the bill was in error and would be corrected. Several months later, I got a notice that the bill had been sent to collections! I called back and the billing dept said that a number of zeroed out patient balances had been mistakenly sent to collections and that it was an error, that it would be corrected, and that no, I did no owe anything. I requested some confirmation that my balance was indeed registered as zero but they said they couldnt provide one with their system, so I nervously took their word that all had been settled.Now, over 14 months after this visit, I have received ANOTHER notice that my bill has been sent to collections, completely out of the blue. While the clinical staff was nice, I would steer clear of these urgent cares if at all possible - I can only imagine what it would be like dealing with their billing on a more costly and serious matter.

Called in advance to ask if the AFC Montclair Road location would perform a physical/health exam for my 10-year old. He needed this in order to attend summer camp. The person told me “yes” they performed health screenings for children. After waiting a very long time (one hour), the doctor came in to tell me she would not perform the health screen. The health screen included blood pressure, weight, height and fever checks. She refused to see us! Then, the office would not refund or void my paperwork!!!! The doctor said said they had no one authorized to void the transaction. This place has horrible customer service. Never go to this AFC location!

That “CNP” needs her credentials checked. She didn’t know how to treat my problems so she called EMS and had me sent to the ER for a psych hold. The POLICE officers were so laughing so hard telling me I’d get better care at UAB anyway. They told me she does this quite often. ... the problem?!? Was loss of smell or phantom smells... (this was a few months ago) COME TO FIND OUT! It’s a COVID-19 Thing! More than $1000 dollars later... check those credentials people!

I was astonished at the level of care and gratitude I have received here. I called ahead to see about admittance and the lady was so sweet on the phone. The nurses were amazing, Dr. Sarah, the ekg and radiologist were so kind. Im really happy to have this team in my neighborhood! Would recommend to family for sure. Keep up the amazing work guys!

I’ve only ever had positive experiences with AFC on Montclair Rd, but my daughter has gone their twice for COVID testing and has received a bill both times. She has contacted BCBS, who conformed she should not have been charged. The woman she spoke to initially at BCBS called her back after a few days of trying to reach AFC to tell my daughter no one was answering the phone and that she would send out a form for my daughter to fill out confirming that she received no treatment and was only there to receive the test.As good as my experiences with AFC have been in the past, this feels predatory, and I will not be back.

Some of the front staff is rude. They kept telling me to stay inside and wait when I told them I preferred to wait in my car to avoid any covid contact by people waiting in the lobby. A lot of people were coming in for covid testing and I am a care giver.Someone there charged me $50 from me for an extra co-payment that I did not authorize.When I tried contacting them to get this handled they ignored me through emails and wouldnt return my phone calls and kept dismissing me for another time that someone would call me back when I went there in person, but they never did. I had to contact my bank to do a charge back with screenshot evidence of being double charged by them.They get 3 stars at least because the actual doctors are nice and its not all of the front staff. If I had another closer option I would go somewhere else. Will not be using cards there for payment in the future, and will always use cash or a dummy card for ID verification.Hopefully though my visits there will be few and far in between.

I recently called because my Mom was battling Covid. The person who answered denied treatment to her although I expressed the severity of her condition. Trustcare down the road was accommodating and gave my Mom treatment that did help her. People who do not want to help a 70 year old woman should work at McDonalds and not in the medical service field. Horrible experience. Negative stars.

The nurse is extremely rude. Treated me like I was an inconvenience. Not clean. No one was sanitizing the rooms or chairs after people were sitting in them. There was no hand sanitizer anywhere. I felt very unsafe and uncomfortable.

Going in for a Covid test after potentially being exposed. While the staff was professional and friendly; I was charged $150 out of pocket for the test! Having started a new job i was uninsured at the time.I was absolutely shocked! If I had known about the free testing sites I would not have bothered with AFC. Definitely feel cheated

Dr. Powell is absolutely FANTASTIC! Its been an extremely long time since a doctor actually took the time to get all the information needed to make a proper diagnosis. For once I didnt feel as if I was on a production line with high quotas...there was a longer wait period, but once I realized it was because Dr. Powell takes his time with each patient I was so glad I came in... Im already feeling better just knowing theres a caring, knowledgeable and detail oriented doctor available for when I need to be seen again! I give this AFC location a five star rating! Dr. Powell will now act as my new primary care physician!!!!

I have always came to this location; normally everyone is so nice, but today the girl at the front desk was very rude, she made me feel like not even checking in. I would have left but , I have high blood pressure and I was retaining water and wanted to know what was causing it She questioned the reason for my visit. Stating that “ So you making an appointment for your legs swelling”.As if it was a stupid reason to come to urgent care.I am in the healthcare field, I would never treat anyone the way she just treated me. Will not come back to this location.

There was one medical assistant who was really rude, Kiela, however ALL of the staff other than her were super nice and friendly! I even got stuck 4 times giving blood and that didn’t bother me bc the lady who stuck me was nice. Overall I’m happy about my visit. One bad apple did not get to ruin my visit and i appreciate the rest of the staff for that! Maybe Kiela can learn something from the rest of them.

Today I made a visit to this location with COVID -19 symptoms. I checked in at 1:00pm and sat in the waiting room for over 2 hour to get tested. It wasn’t even a busy day. People started checking in after I got there were called to the back within less than 30 minutes. 6 people get called before me and when I asked about it they repeatedly said that I was next but continued to call others that checked in after me. When they finally called me to the back to get tested, I was back there for a total of 5 minutes, got the test and I was done with the visit! What took so long that I had to wait 2 hours for? They gave me no explanation and they were very rude when I asked why it took so long. I would not recommend coming back.

This was a superior and professional business establishment! It is important to me as an African American to frequent businesses owned or completely run by African- Americans. This is such a business!!! I am so excited about it and I will share it with anyone who needs urgent care! I honestly had no idea I would be met with such quick, professional service from the receptionist to the nurses and finally a very friendly, knowledgeable and personable physician who I would receive kind, quick treatment from that did not feel rushed!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience! I feel so much better today and I am sure that the treatment (medically medicinally and professionally) are all a part of my healing process!!! I was charged $150 for a CV19 test, $115 for an office visit, $50 for someone to run the sample, and another $150 for a non-existent test. Would not recommend. $150 is not an accurate quote.

I had to stop in while driving through from out of town after having a dizzy lightheaded “spell”. It is a very laid back atmosphere. No one is in a rush to do anything. Receptionists were nice but young and inexperienced. The triage nurse was underwhelming in her concern for doing her job. The younger woman at the back desk (with glasses) was bothered to be asked a question. She was too busy stirring her tea to want to answer any questions. Then later when asked for a glass of water, of course it never came. I was there for over two hours. The NP was nice and tried to be helpful though. I had an EKG and it took the kind lady a long while (20+ minutes) to hook the clips to the stickers on me because someone had left them knotted up and they kept coming undone. All the while hearing that the machine was so old it needed to be replaced. I finally had to hold some of them in place with my hands for the machine to work. I had a choice of a couple of urgent care facilities. They were all the same company; but, this particular one was closer to me so I chose it based on proximity. I would not return to this facility nor can I recommend going here, if you have any other choice.

I had an issue when I walked in, regarding I.D. and the clerks were very polite and helpful, and worked with me. The staff in general was very kind, upbeat and professional. Every single one of them wished me well and that Id feel better soon. After my visit I got a call asking about my experience. I say all this to say that these people who work here have hearts and care. It was honestly refreshing. I definitely recommend them.

I have always liked going to AFC in Irondale when I’m sick and unable to wait on an appointment with my regular Doctor.Everyone there was nice and helpful while I was there. I didn’t have to wait but a few minutes to be seen. I really appreciated that because my cough is bad. I was given a shot then prescriptions which they phoned in so I didn’t have to take anything to Pharmacy!

I am here now and I will not ever come again to this location. Customer service is very important and from the receptionist at front desk to the nurse and trainee customer service was awful. First impressions are forever and after meeting the first three people I felt as if I was in the wrong place. The only people who smiled, were friendly, showed care, and compassion were the lab technician, and medical assistant (Ashlee)nurse practitioner(Cassandra). They provided service with a spirit of excellence. There are too many Urgent Cares in the Jefferson County area for me to come here and receive inadequate customer service. Also, I arrived at 10:40 and it is now 12:20 when I am leaving. I could have gone to the ER. The mission statement for AFC need to be reviewed with this location personnel. Again, I will not recommend this location to anyone unless they would only meet the last three people first and only.

Mona Barlow, PA stitched up my laceration and was superb. The lady on the front desk was most helpful and the yound lady that weighed me and took my stats was very knowledgeable and efficient. I was in and out in about 55 minutes total. I am very impressed with the facility!

But most of all he listened to my concerns and made me feel like he really cared. Ill visit this location for years, especially when Dr. Reese was and after she left, and Ive always been taken great care from the Doctors at AFC. I have a primary doctor that I love also, but I dont like being at the doctors office a quarter of the day, but at AFC you in and out under a hour and a half. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!

Everyone was very nice and professional. I went in with a knee injury. I thought it was just a sprain. The Dr. wanted to make sure no other injuries had occurred so we took X-rays. Turns out I had a dislocated knee cap. They set me up with an orthopedist promptly. Thank you for taking care of me. I would recommend this facility.

The staff here is amazing: front desk, nursing staff/MAs (love Aldonia), & NP (Cassie Cobb) is absolutely amazing! We arrived at 8am & were seen almost immediately. Both the LPN/MA were delightful! While we waited (which was not long at all), they still had staff pop back to offer us a beverage & check in. Our NP was personable, compassionate & direct! We were in and out pretty quickly! Very impressed!

I was reluctant to visit an urgent care facility due to negative visits in the past. It was however the most convenient location and on a Saturday. I chose American Family Care in Irondale based on the convenience. I was pleasantly surprised by the demeanor of all the employees and Dr. Allen was great. After diagnosis and a couple of shots I was on my way home in under an hour and a half. Quick, clean facility, and excellent staff. I will certainly go there in my next need!

The only reason it gets 1 star is because I can’t give it zero. Every time I have visited here it take almost 2 hours to see the doctor no matter the time of day or how busy they are. My wife just recently went, waited 2 and a half hours and had yet to see the doctor. The nurse did a swab test and then told her they sent her medicine over to the pharmacy and that she can pick it up later. Goes to pick up her medicine and it’s not there so she came back to afc and they said they didn’t send medicine because she never saw the doctor. The nurse told her oh well the only reason I said we sent your medicine is I thought you saw the doctor. They were no help to her at all just a waste of time and money if you choose to come here

Where to start? I realize that Sunday at 4pm might not be the best time to visit an Urgent Care, but apparently its the worst time. I signed in at 4:15pm for them to see my son, at the request of my pediatricians on-call nurse due to some symptoms he was having. Total time in the waiting room was almost an hour and a half, plus the remaining time in the exam room. We never saw the doctor. The nurse was very nonchalant with intake. She only asked what our sons weight and height were and did nothing to double check when we werent 100% certain. She took no vitals and told us there were four people ahead of us. In my head I thought, good another hour of waiting. I noticed that there was garbage on the floor and drops of red near the trash can. They make you wait all this time and cant even be bothered to clean in between patients? Then we waited some more. My son fell asleep. At some point my husband poked his head out the door to see if anyone was around, and only saw the doctor henpecking at a computer. The doctor didnt look up or acknowledge my husband. We might have heard him arguing with another patient about how overwhelmed he was. No idea if this was the only doctor on staff. But almost three hours without even seeing us? How is this acceptable? I know AFC has never been known for being speedy, and Ive felt lucky whenever I got out of one in two hours. But seriously. Dont go here. Dont waste your time. And if you cant efficiently operate a computer as a healthcare professional in this day and age, maybe its time to retire.

The doctors visit went very well, everyone was nice and helpful. However, I received a bill 8 1/2 months after my visit with no valid explanation. I spent over 2 hours, collectively, on hold over several different phone calls with billing trying to get in touch with someone when the wait was supposed to only be 2 minutes each time. When I finally got a customer representative to answer the phone, she was extraordinarily rude, and offered no help or explanation. Do not waste your time here.

I came in with abdominal pains that had been going on for a couple of days .I described it as a solid 5 maybe 6 on a 1-10 pain scale.The nurse took my vitals and when the doctor finally came in he touched his stethoscope to me 4 times and told me I would be fine...No tests,no x ray,no blood work,no diligent care,no nothing. The day following my visit my pain was just as intense as ever and I was concerned that perhaps I had kidney stones, So I called the office to ask if there was any way that I could get some kind of X ray or test done to confirm this or at least something for the pain,at that point I was told the doctor I saw was not there and I would have to come in and pay another copay to get done what should have done already.

The rudest receptionist I’ve ever encountered. Whispered things under her breath thinking I couldn’t hear her and constantly rolled her eyes. Not only that but we were denied service because we came in at 5:45 and they close at 6 but they didn’t tell me they wouldn’t see us until 6:30 after we had been sitting there.

Ive been going here for 2 years now. Not any problems until this last visit. I was promptly taken back to a patient room. At this point I spent 2 hrs waiting for a strep culture to be taken and blood to be drawn. Doctors offices get busy, however, during this time I stepped out of my patient room and sat down in the hallway to listen to the nurses on duty and doctor. They were talking about their upcoming Halloween plans and where to pick up alcohol. At this time I made. My presence known and asked if my results were back. They notified me they were and would be in shortly to administer some antibiotic shots. After 1hr 35 to 45 mins I walked out into the hall again and resumed my seating position around the corner from where the nurses and doctor sat. While theyre conversation was fun and informing, as I now know where to get costumes of different animals with limited fabric, I did not receive my shots. I again made my presence known. And walked towards the door. At this time one of the nurses asked if I had received the medication. I replied with a no and I apologize but I am now late for work and must pass on the medication, I would return tomorrow. She did inform me itll only take a moment as the shots are ready, and following my better judgment I bit my tongue and continued out the door. Upon calling corporate to resolve the claimed services that werent received, I was given the normal run around and then the eventual youre phone is cutting out I cant hear you routine. I stopped claim payment with my insurance and am now following up with legal charges against them. Have fun playing with this establishment.

Needs more knowledgeable receptionists. I have waited almost two hours to come to find out she wasn’t even signing me in for the right thing. I came here for a second round of my immunization shots. I was told to come back in a month to get my second round of shots, she was clueless of what those shots were. Luckily, I remembered. Took her an hour and a half to understand that I was here getting shots and not “picking up paperwork”. I understand that there is always a chance of a long wait, but atleast make sure you get it right of what a patient is here for, especially when you have been told 3 times. I’ve been waiting for nothing basically, just to repeat myself AGAIN. Will not be back to this location.

Nurses were great, but Dr. Donald Welsh needs to retire. He would not listen to me, and gave me antibiotics for strep, which I tested negative for. At the end of the 3 hour visit he gave me a summery of my visit. At the bottom of this paper it told me to lose weight. We never discussed my weight, and earlier in the visit during the weigh in I was actually satisfied with my weight. It was an over all frustrating and excruciating experience. I contemplated leaving mid-visit after he made me cry.

After having an extremely high blood pressure throughout the day, when I arrived one evening I was turned away after being told that my insurance isnt accepted here because the young lady recognized the name. I stood there for 3 to 4 minutes explaining to her that that isnt correct, that if she would just put in my information it would work. She refused to even try, and told me that I would have to call my insurance company to figure out what to do, and my insurance companys office was closed by that time. My mother called the next day and was told by an AFC employee that they werent sure why I was turned away, as when they put my information in the computer, I popped right up. However, since I did nothing but rest up until I was seen (the afternoon after being turned away), my blood pressure wasnt extremely high when I got there. However, it was still high. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but he/she was not there. The only people that seemed to take me seriously (or at least pretend to) were the nurses in the back. There are obvious issues that I know Im experiencing that were not picked up in testing. Was referred for a CT scan, but no one from AFC or Imaging followed up with me, I had to seek out the answers for my testing myself. Even when I returned a few days later, I spoke to someone at the desk and when they were unsure of how to help me, they turned to their coworker and said what did you tell this girl on the phone?. This girl? I was always polite. Always respectful. To this very day I still have not heard from their supervisor.I would recommend the AFC in Hoover. They are always kind to me. Its unfortunate that I have to travel all the way over there, as the Montclair location is closest to my home.

Dr. Reese has taken care of me a few times. From lacerated finger to bronchitis and walking pneumonia. Always got me better or to the right specialist. Quick service and very professional, friendly too for all staff.

Over two and a half hours and still waiting. Called before we came and they said people were moving through. They did not even ask why we were here until we went back to triage.Seems like they have seen at least six people that came in after us and the one that I heard them talking to was a much more minor issue than ours.Waiting

The wait was as painful as the illness my child had. Not only did I have to sit in the waiting room for 2 and half hours the doctor was rude as hell. Furthermore she did not do a thorough exam of my 2 year old. I will not be returning and people should avoid this place like the plague.

I went on Christmas Eve after experiencing hot, splotchy rashes down both arms for several days. Chills, feeling just bad. I had been on an antibiotic for a sinus infection for days before the rash started, but Dr. Pinphan decided it was from taking the med, period. Would not run any BW to see about the symptoms, did not check me, just was hateful and rude. Then I remembered having her before and having the same bad experience with her. She is not just rude, she is a doctor who does not do her due diligence... And that is dangerous.

This clinic is by far the worst I have ever been to. we waited one hour to get into a room, and then waited another two hours to see the Doctor, who then explained that I had mistakenly been placed last on the list, and that people coming in after me had been seen first! The doctor then said that he would take blood tests that would only last twenty minutes, but they took forty minutes. Finally, after receiving a diagnosis, I went to pick up my medication at the pharmacy but the pharmacist said that they had not sent it. The pharmacist called up the clinic, but they refused to send the prescription. Overall, this was one of the worst experiences of my life!

Every time I have come here it’s over a two hour wait and there is no one in the waiting room. If I am not waiting in the lobby I am waiting in an evaluation room. It is absolutely ridiculous how long you have to wait here. I also feel like every doctor is rushing you and doesn’t actually listen to what you are telling them.

We visited Sunday around 11:30 am 1l28...staff processed us in promptly,nurses were all professional and friendly, Dr Lay promptly diagnosed us,got shots and picked up prescriptions next door at Walgreens...and we were feeling much better Monday...would definitely go back ..(.hopefully do not have the need)...Jan and Reggie, Vestavia
