I was brought in the ER because my thumb was partially amputated. The check in was fast and I was immediately taken to the x-ray room. However, after the doctor removed the bandage to look at my thumb, the bandage was not replaced and I was left bleeding from my wound. I had to call my nurse twice to get her to bandage my wound and she arrived after 20 minutes. The hand surgeon was the reason for the 3-star rating of this review. He was professional and friendly throughout the whole procedure. The next day I attempted to schedule an appointment for my follow up on the 7th day after my accident. I was told they needed the workers comp information before they could schedule me. I immediately contacted my employer and got that done on the same day. The next day I called again to make an appointment. I was told they never received the workers comp information. I contacted workers comp and was assured that they would send the information again that day.I called again on the third day, a Friday, to once again schedule my appointment. An answering machine picked up and I left a message. No one called back. I called multiple times and only the machine was picking up.On Monday, I tried again and once again I was told they never received the workers comp information. I was very frustrated and told them that the information was already sent twice. They said they couldn’t do anything. On Tuesday, the day I was supposed to have my follow up appointment, I was on the phone again still trying to schedule it. It took 3 phone calls on that day to have someone finally verify that they have received my workers comp information and they scheduled me for the following week— 13 days after my accident.Whoever is in charge of workers comp at MedStar must be terribly disorganized to not be able to verify that she received the information. She was the main reason I could not schedule the appointment.

My wife and I have had about five hospital visits in the last ten years at various hospitals. This was our first visit to Union Memorial. Their service was many levels above even the best of the other hospitals. EVERYONE seemed concerned about us - even just folks we passed in the hallway. They seemed very organized, but not rushed. We felt as if we were the only patients there.

Worst hospital for critical care. Do not take your loved one there. They have the first-year (seem clueless) med students attending acute care patients; they practice on patients as experimental plastic dummies. Patients that need critical attention are ignored due to a shortage of staff physicians. My attempt to reach a qualified hospital-physician took hours over 6 hours on average.During my family members stay, there was one attending physician to hundreds of patients, and I could not locate a physician on weekends and evenings. This is a scary place; it is operated by physician assistants evenings and weekends.Union Memorial is advertised as a heart care hospital, but it is far from that; heart specialists are scarce and cannot adequately manage critical care patients. Very disappointing. Another horrible disservice to union memorial patients, the administration allows drug addicts and homeless people to sleep in the ER hallways overnight unmasked. Twice when my critically ill family member was admitted, we witnessed substance abuse people sleeping and carrying on in the ER room. The hospital allowed them to sleep in the ER room overnight to detox. Who knows if they were vaccinated? Why expose ER patients who are already sick? Careless policy. Avoid this hospital. Redirect the ambulance to another hospital.

Came in for a severe bacterial infection in my hand. From the minute I was taken into the ER until the time I was discharged two days later I was treated with the utmost care and respect from everyone I encountered. The nurses and doctors answered all questions with knowledge and were always polite and treated me with respect. The food is typical industrial hospital type food, nothing spectacular but I wasn’t there on a food tour lol. Would definitely recommend this facility.

Had Surgery on June 10th, 2021 with Dr Paul McAfee. I can honestly say he was absolutely wonderful. He corrected the surgery I had on my spine with another surgeon in 2019. I was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery and the nurses, aids, cleaning staff and the food service were wonderful. The nurses were very caring. The only downfall was some of the nurses on night shift. They always took a long time to help me to the bathroom. The daytime nurses were exceptional!! If it wasn’t for the nighttime nurses I would have given 5 stars.

Complacent, old-fashioned hospital facility with negligible staff accountability or care for patient needs or welfare. An example is patient records. After a weeks stay at the Union Memorial, I requested multiple times for a copy of my medical records and was met with silence and inaction. While the hospital has an online patient portal, no records can be accessed there. All a department, leave a voicemail, and calls are not returned.Union Memorial makes MedStar look bad.

Bad clinic, the worst I have ever been a patient with in my life. I had to change clinics. The clinic stopped answering their phones. You had to go up to the clinic and make appointments and get refills done face to face. They ignored their own pharmacy. Pretty sad for elderly and sick people to deal with this clinic. The last time I was in the clinic, the receptionist looked like she was High on narcotics.here is an example. What if you have high blood pressure and had to deal with a clinic like adult medicine.

I called the ER with a simple question, could barely even utter my question because the secretary kept cutting me off while I was trying to speak. Not only that, she had a very disdainful disposition. Throughout the phone call, her voice became louder and louder. I had to ask her if she could calm down and stop yelling. I asked her for her name, she said it was Ms. Parker. I am not sure if she was having a bad day but Ms. Parker needs to be aware that shes in a professional setting when answering phone calls.

I was recently a patient in the emergency room. This was single handedly the most high quality experience I have ever had at any type of institution. My nurse Allyssa was an angel on earth. I wish she could be my personal nurse for all my hospital visits. She walked into my room with a smile that shines through her mask and greeted me with a big hello. I asked her how she was doing and she responded with “I’m great, but you’re more important my dear!” She immediately went to the white board, wrote down her name, the doctor’s name, and the entire plan that she predicted just by listening to a few words about my symptoms, before the doctor even came and saw me. She was constantly giving me updates about my visit and reassuring me when she would see normal labs in my chart. She personally took me to the X-ray room instead of waiting for the transportation team in order to expedite my process because she knew I had a family part to go to. I kept the door to my room open and I could see her little legs running around the unit helping out all of her colleagues and even the rude patients in the hallway. I felt very safe with Allysa. She told me she had only been a nurse for two years. I was amazed at her intelligence and speed for being such a young nurse. Very compassionate, a mindful listener. I was actually sad to be discharged because she was the most pleasant company I have been around in a while. I would also like to recognize that the department was clean and looked very modern. The place is very tidy and I did not feel unsafe. You can tell people work hard on this unit. Keep it up guys!

When I got there I told them I was taking antibiotics for another issue and I think I was having an allergic reaction to it. I went in the back and the guy only looked at my hands and arms and then came back saying I have rheumatoid arthritis. Then discharged me saying I would have to go see my pcp and rheumatologist. Didn’t give me anything for the pain and swelling. That night was the worst trying to sleep through the pain and swelling. The next day I go see my pcp and she says it’s an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and NOT rheumatoid arthritis. They misdiagnosed me at Medstar . She told me that in order to have rheumatoid arthritis I would have had to be tested and it be confirmed, they never tested me. They literally looked at me and came up with whatever they wanted to come up with. I should SUE for even putting me through the distress I was put through with thinking I had it . Then the guy in the back was very rude to patients and I kept hearing him speak negatively to people on the phone. I even recorded certain things he said. I’ll NEVER go back again. I suffered for their negligence!

However, when I went in to visit him, the security & staff at the entrance taking our temperature were insanely rude, aggressive, & had no patience answering our questions. We were unaware of the new covid regulations & did not cause any trouble. Yet, the staff did not want to even try to understand. We were cut off mid-sentence many times, were not given the chance to explain the misunderstanding, & were yelled at in front of the hospital’s other visitors. That’s embarrassing for your hospital. I am very unpleased with this hospital my father was transported here with complications due to COVID. Most of the nurses are very rude. When my dad was transported to a rehabilitation they choose one of their own. They never mentioned where they sent my father to. My dad FaceTimed me asking me to find out where he was when I called UNION MEMORIAL the nurse laughed and said “you don’t know where you dad is ?”On top of this when I was finally able to retrieve my fathers personal belongs his 24inch 18k solid gold Byzantine necklace 118 grams in weight, along with his wallet was not returned. It’s on his property sheet that he arrived there with it. Security officer Thomas is very rude when I told her I’m calling the police she told me to “do what you have to do”. I then asked her for her supervisor’s name and she hung up the phone on me. Between the patient advocate and patient specialist they seem to be no help at all. I literally ask them question after question about my fathers property it has been a month and no one has any answers. It is disrespectful that a hospital would misplace/ or Possibly stealing valuables. What was returned to me was socks shoes pants jacket shirt and a couple of quarters glasses and a pocket knife basically the bag that was on his bed side. His valuables are missing under this hospitals care. It’s disgusting that I have not even been able to completely grieve over my father trying to find the next person to help retrieve his missing valuables. Due to COVID and no one allowed in the hospital their policy with these belongs should change they should contact the person on the emergency contact list to retrieve them if they don’t come get them it’s on the family. These items were misplaced and stolen under this hospitals care. It is disgusting and repulsive that I was stripped from going to visit my father, I was stripped from giving him a proper burial service and on top of it due to the staff of Union Memorial I was stripped of the last things my dad wore and carried with him.

I arrived at the hospital with my stepdaughter and her six-year-old son for an appointment for her in adult medicine. We were tested at the entrance and permitted to go to the clinic. As soon as we got in, I was told that I and the child had to leave. My stepdaughter isnt capable of handling her own business (developmental disability) and I told the receptionist that I was her advocate for the visit. We were allowed to sit down. Then another woman arrived and told me that I and the child had to leave, and they would get a social worker to be her advocate. How? That person knows nothing about her. We tested clear on entrance. Why this treatment when the actual patient cannot speak for themselves.

We have been extremely disappointed with the lack of organization in the billing department at MedStar Union. My husband came into the ER in July 2019. He had a hospital stay of a few days, but the initial info that was sent to our insurance incorrectly listed this entire stay as time in the ER, making it intelligible for coverage. This would have meant we owed over $5,000. We caught this before the bill came and got it corrected with MedStar. After correcting this, 2 of our bills didnt arrive until 2020. On both occasions Medstar blamed the delay on our insurance company, but our insurance company filed their part of the claim on August 2019. After we received one of the bills in early 2020 and paid, we called to ask if we owed anything else and were told we were paid in full. Then we received another bill this week, more than a year after the procedure. What is most frustrating is that we had access to our FSA up until August of this year and had we been billed in a timely manner or told that we had a remaining payment when we called and asked, we could have used that FSA to pay it. Now, because of MedStars lack of organization and communication, we have to pay this surprise bill out of pocket. Be wary of the billing process if you go here for a procedure and know that you will have to watch carefully for errors that could cost you in the long run.Editing this review to say that my husband filled out the response form as requested in the response from MedStar and no one reached out to us.

I was brought in by my husband, unconscious and unable to talk or walk. He had thought ahead to bring my cell phone with its charger and placed it in a bag tucked into the waist band of my pants. Since he was unable to go back through the ED doors with me he wanted to make sure I had what I would need to contact him, but ALSO because he knew I needed that cell phone to help control my diabetes. I am a Type I diabetic and have a Continuous Glucose Monitor and Insulin pump what use my cell phone to communicate with each other. Without my phone and the Decom App I am unable to maintain control over my blood sugars.I woke up an hour later in the room in the ED, my husband called and asked why I hadnt answered my cell phone. I asked my nurse where my phone was and she stated that I had not come in with a phone. My husband was adamant about having placed it in my lap as the staff wheeled me through the doors to be treated. Needless to say NO One ever found my phone, despite several calls to security and Patient Advocacy, Its sad to think that one of the staff members would steal items from an uncouncscious person who had come in seeking help. (My husband also said there were no other patients in the waiting aread and security and the registrar did not ask him to make a list of items that I came in with. Very upsetting....

WORST hospital experience I have ever endured. My friend fell and hit her head on concrete and was losing a massive amount of blood from the head. Naturally she was very upset and we continued to assure her it would be okay, but not being a medical professional, I wasn’t exactly sure what was going to happen. The nurse was extremely rude and basically laughed at her as she cried and struggled to answer questions. The staff then asked me to operate my friend’s wheelchair and when I couldn’t figure it out and told them it was their job to do this they didn’t get up to help but told me to “go sit down.” I could go on, but the bottom line is that there is zero bedside manner here. People are not used to bleeding out from the head on a normal basis so if you are going to be in a helping profession then show some compassion and help patients to feel better rather than acting jaded and irritated with those who need professionals who get paid to do this job. I am not a person who writes reviews, but it felt necessary under these circumstances.

Past hospitals werent as concerned with helping me past the ER, but these folks gave me a referral to a specialist, helped set up an appointment, and told me what to expect for future care. While being treated here, the nurses were very careful, considerate, and so caring - even though it was extremely busy! Everyone was great and thorough here and, although I hope my issue will be taken care of and I will no longer have to have any future hospital visits for it, if I do, I will return to this hospital. Ive already referred a friend with a similar health issue to this hospital.Update: was just in. I take back what I said last time. I wasnt asked about my prior visit. I brought all my paperwork and medications and they didnt ask for any of it. I left still crying out in pain. Didnt ask me how I reacted to the prescriptions or go over them at all, just wanted me out of there asap. Didnt seem to care one bit. Pretty sure they profiled a chronic pain sufferer as a drug seeker because I am young and look poor. If I could put 0 stars I would. My dad was taken there for IV fluids. He had bravely fought deadly glioblastoma and was in remission. His home health team felt he may be dehydrated and need IV fluids. Union Memorial was the only hospital available for ambulance services. We were immediately rushed into a conference room ( we drove ourselves, my daughter and sister and I.) That was “fun”- usually means the patient expired. A cold young man who called himself Dr. Watson came in and assured us that our dad wasn’t dead, but that he should be in a few hours. He wanted to put my dad on a ventilator for no reason. I begged him to just give him the fluids and send him home. Watson told us dad’s lungs were a mess, which turned out to be false. I convinced Watson and team to give dad fluids. Then he was transferred upstairs to ICU. Two days later a nurse called Sandy (not sure last name, might have been Hook) bullied me into changing Dad’s code to DNR and harassed me into signing him up for hospice. Because he was old (79) she said, and had some skin breakdown that my sister and I were treating just fine at home. A week later the Seasons Hospice overdosed our wonderful father with morphine; so now he is with Jesus but we are heartbroken. He fought and beat the cancer only to be murdered by Hospice. Sandy (Hook?) said her main job is to get people in hospice. She said no one should fight any cancer and people should be happy to die. All of the MedStar Hospitals are worse than veterinary clinics. We had an even worse experience at Franklin Scare oops Franklin Square. I wouldn’t recommend your hospital to someone under any circumstances.

I left the hospital with three prescriptions and could only get one filled. I called to try and get them to send the prescription elsewhere and thats when it was all downhill. Why i couldnt leave the hospital with a paper prescription I have not a clue but i have a follow up appointment a week later so now i just have to be in pain for a whole week to get another prescription because theres no one there that can help . I called almost five times in a day and always got that someone would call me back. Nevet happened. It was terribly frustrating.

Wonderful service from all the staff I visited when I was living in Baltimore (1.5 years). Doctors and nurses were very charm and professional with me, always in touch to take care of my needs. It is unfortunate that I am not close to Baltimore area anymore, otherwise Id continue being patient in this hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Nathan Berger and Dr. Allan Jensen.

Had surgery here back in February, I guess the surgery was successful other than dealing with incompetent doctors, who dont want to claim responsibility for an mishaps post-op, such as leaving stitches in for too long which caused irritation, internal bruising, lacking range of motion and circulation. Also the billing department keeps sending invoices to me, which I keep calling them about only to explain to them that it should be cleared, very incompetent all the way around. Intake ER nurses/assistants were horrible at doing a simple task such as applying pressure to an open wound to stop bleeding, but the only good thing I can say were the PM nurses were the best, thats the only good thing I can say about this hospital, which is sad for a hospital as this one located near John Hopkins.

Mediocre facility that likes to play games with billing by breaking them into multiple parts/claims to ratchet up the fees they can charge. Insurance companies play along because they also profit/get to charge multiple co-pays. Avoid this bloodsucking facility, and go to a REAL hospital not owned by Medstar.

Doctors and nurses seemed fairly good for my brothers surgery. Facility is OK. Parking is really quite terrible and food is the worst thing. The food that my brother was served was simply inedible. What he got didnt match what he ordered, and what he got was really not fit to be served in prison. Unhealthy, and just gross. Having been at other hospitals in town, this is the worst that I have experienced. The cafeteria was only slightly better. Thankfully, there are some other options nearby. The horrendous quality of the food really makes the place not recommended by me. I know is seems silly, but it is just awful.

When I walked into the emergency room, I had no idea how dire my condition was and how close to a life-threatening event. The ER staff accessed my problems, explained them to me clearly, and admitted me for immediate treatment. During one week in the hospital and throughout the follow-up, transitional care, I was profoundly impressed with the professionalism, courtesy, and friendly helpfulness of every person I encountered in this superb hospital. They not only restored me to good health, but made me feel as if they were grateful that I had given them the chance to do so. I cannot imagine a finer experience with a hospital team. Union Memorial has always had a reputation for excellence and that reputation is earned every single day.

All I came for was to have a PPD test read but for some reason. I have to wait an extra hour, just to get that done. Organization is a major key to life and for some reason. These folks dont understand that. I also dont like the fact of having to go across town to (this Dr and that Dr). Driving a million miles away, to get to an appt. I am very agitated and at this point ready to go. If it were not due to circumstances of me needing the form filled out. I would leave period and wouldnt come back. The Health care facilities in Baltimore really need to learn etiquette and how to treat people. Instead of robbing people for the Governments money. Im so sick of the usury!!!!

My fiance had two fingers amputated and unfortunately we were sent to this horrid place. Because of our insurance he was sent down stairs to the basement Clinic 4. The doctor I can say was competent and compassionate. The front staff however need to be FIRED immediately. I have never felt so unwelcome in a medical setting in my life. The young ladys attitude and incompetence is the reason we started looking for a new physician. We live over an hour away and came for our appointment today and they were closed. luckily there were some very nice admin assistants upstairs in the hand center who at least apologized for our trip and found a specialist to examine his hand. Ill be happy when they close the clinic down at the end of the month and move upatairs, hopefully they can do it with new employees.

Had to come here for a heart catherization procedure. It was extremely clean. They made sure I was well protected especially when my heart rate went up. They had to be sure I didnt passout. They were constantly in my waiting area telling me about the procedure and even listened to me on things some nurses can push off on. They made sure I was extremely comfortable and one lady gave me her personal fan since I could not cool down being I have POTS. This helped me a lot and calmed my nerves. They procedure was quick and left only a little dot of a scar where they went in. The wait to go home was cool too. The nurse made jokes and kept me full of water 😁. I was happy to have that. No food or liquids since the previous day at 8p.m. She also gave me some food. When time to go, she helped me put on my socks. Using one hand when you cant use your dominant hand is torture. Im just thankful all came out well. My nurses from when I came in, even came to see me to congratulate on having no blockage. See sweet 💞

The endocrine center here has the worst scheduling practices. They force the providers to double book patients causing extreme wait times and rushed patient care. This has been a constant issue and I dont plan on returning to this practice or recommend anyone to this office

The emergency room is horrible! I came in at 3pm and currently still here at 6pm! This is the second time I’ve been to this emergency room. I’ve seen the doctor once since I’ve been here. I’m 3 months pregnant and I fell down the steps and I’m waiting for someone to check on my baby! The little baby next to me was waiting for a treatmeant for an hour and 30 mins! I get it your a hospital and have other patients but I mean seriously do you have one doctor on site ??? Totally don’t understand! The first time I came they wrongly diagnosed me. I was having a serve cyst eruption on my ovaries and they told me it was just my cycle pains. Union memorial needs to do better!!!

Union Memorial doctors and nurses are great however I called to get my information released the receptionist who told me her name was Nelly is the rudest nasty woman I have ever spoke with and being an administrator and secretary for over 2 years I know customer service. She took almost 2 hours to fax over my information she put me on hold for almost 30 minutes. When I told her its been an hour and I still havent received a fax she told me shes sending it to the school dont give her a time frame shes dealing with someone I asked how long she had been dealing with them she said a few minutes I said well Ive been waiting for almost 2 hours she said its going to the school not you right . The information needed to be in my hand to process my reinstatment to school I informed her I couldnt wait much longer because I have a doctors appointment she then put me on hold again and said she sent it. Then hung up. I feel she should be terminated when I asked to speak to her supervisor she informed me no one was there but her. If she treated me this way I can imagine how she treats others she makes your whole organization look terrible.

I wish I could give it no stars. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and they sent her home to be comfortable basically wiped their hands clean with no further advice. Coming from a family that has never had a single person diagnosed with cancer you can only imagine the questions and concerns we all have felt to be left in the dark and told basically there is nothing they can do. The week she spent in there the hospital didnt feed her or give her anything to drink for 3 days until staff realized the family started bringing her food and drinks in to keep in her room. The floors have trash. The bathrooms are disgusting. I recommend going ANYWHERE but union memorial. Unless its just a common cold. They are not equipped to save anyone. Save your family the heart ache.

I am a new patient of Union Memorial. I decided to have all my providers there. My PCP, Dr. Veronica Epstein is a great doctor as well as my specialist, Dr. Rani Kulkarni. Being new to the hospital, I found it difficult to schedule an appointment as there is no Central Scheduling Department. Dr. Epstein referred me to an OB-GYN, Dr. Gupta. I have nothing against Dr. Gupta because up to now, I was not able to get an appointment with her. After my January appointment with my PCP, I started contacting the clinic of Dr. Gupta. A lady would answer my call and would give the same answer Ill tell them to call you back. After several calls, nobody called me back to schedule my appointment. I personally went to Dr Guptas office during Presidents Day but her office was closed. The following day, I called again and received the same answer that they will just call me back. I told her that I had waited forever for the call back but I never heard from them at all. Afterwards, she hung up. I called at the hospital so they can help me get an appointment. I was told by a lady that she will look into my concern. But until now I never heard any answer at all. I repeat, I have nothing against Dr. Gupta, I am complaining about the staff in her office who ignore a patient like me. Please do something about my concern. Thank you.

Today I was not impressed by my experience in ER. I go with pain level after headaches that sent me out this world and doctor comes in sits down and like shes not care in the world. Then the gross doctor cuts her self with clipboard shes writing on proceeds to bleed all over self right front of me. Thats gross and unsanitary in it self. Ive been diagnosed with MS and the just write me off like what Im going through is irrelevant. You have to be some nasty drug attic, mental, or crippled to get kind of help. I would not recommend anyone to this hospital. If I didnt have good neurologist I wouldnt come back. Oh please teach your nasty doctor to better protocol when there injured. She didnt even wash hands after washing the blood off her face. Im glad she didnt touch me.

If your family or friend is having only heart problems this a good place to be but if they are having heart, pulmonary, kidney or anything that is additional to heart try your best to get them to another hospital. My domestic partner was transferred to this hospital to have a heart valve replacement but he started having complication of breathing, kidneys not functioning and fevers which postponed the heart surgery. I forgot to say he was in ICU. I understood the postponement but I did not understand why they werent trying to find out why he was having a hard time breathing. They seemed to be only concerned about his fever and kidneys not functioning which I understood but his breathing was my main concern and was not theres. He died of pulmonary embolism. He had major breathing problems for a week and they kept saying he needs to call down. My question is how can anyone calm down when they cant breath? Also be prepared that its not easy to find a nurse in ICU after 9pm. It seemed the nurses in the evening relied on the monitors to go off if something would go wrong for any patient. They didnt look into the patients room often to see how they were doing. I never felt comfortable when I left in the evening and if you tried to call in the late evening or early morning, good luck getting a hold of anyone. One last thing, I felt there was no sense of urgency and SOME nurses didnt have empathy for the patients. I felt they were there to do there shift and go home. I really feel my partner would not had passed away if the had given more attention to his breathing problems.

Have been going to this hospital for years. Last year had to meet the deductible on insurance, so I incurred a $1200 balance with Union Memorial. Set up a payment plan and made the payments on time. Went out of town last month(June 2018) and made the payment late. They automatically sent my account to the collection agency. No notice, no call or anything, and sent it to the worst agency that will trash your credit in a heartbeat. Very disappointed with Medstar. Customer service has gone down the drain in America, no one cares about anybody anymore. So sad...... Dont use this hospital unless your deductible is paid on your insurance....Wish I could give 0 stars...

I was admitted and hospitalized for four days and every nurse, technical workers food workers and all the doctors that entered my room was on there best behavior and had good professional skills, I had no problems what so ever, and I will return to this hospital if I ever have any kind of illness or emergencys in the future!!!
