I visited Dr. Rachal this week as a new patient and had an excellent experience all around. I was able to book an appointment easily and not too far in advance. I was able to check in online with an easy-to-use process on my phone. When I arrived the staff was welcoming and friendly. Dr. Rachal took the time to understand my concerns, to give me a thorough exam, and to educate me. A couple of days later I received an email with a link to a patient portal containing the most thorough report I have ever received from a dermatologist. Thank you Dr. Rachal!

Dr Mack Rachal is one of the most intelligent and up to date Dermatologist in the city. I have been a patient for more than 25 years and he cares about outcomes for his patients and delivers exceptional medical advice. Certainly the most well read and medically current practitioner I have ever met.

I have to say I have seen Dr. Mack Rachal for a few years now and this review is long overdue. I have always been please with his bedside manner. He a very nice doctor and has been able to see me on short notice if needed. Being a fair skin individual, I see a dermatologist every year and he has been the best for me personally.

I am very familiar with Northsides new medical facility, as I see other specialists in the building along with using their urgent care facility. I was hopeful to get in to see a dermatologist in this building, as I really like this facility, other doctors there the location related to home. I have an area on my skin that resembles skin cancer, as I am familiar with the appearance. When I called for an appointment, I was told this doctor will only see me if I get a referral from another medical doctor. This is not an insurance requirement, but a doctors requirement. I expressed my concern with this process, and I was very nice about it. I advised the young lady that this would require me to have 2 doctor visits scheduled to see this one doctor, hence schedule off work TWICE to get a visit. I have insurance that covers this without a referral. Her response was Okay, thank you. End of conversation. Like the doctor, I too have work and time commitments. I am not sure how seeing my medical doctor just to have him send me to a dermatologist for an exam and test makes any sense at all.

Excellent dermatologist and helped my psoriasis get into remission and was the first to recognize I had arthritis, before even a rheumatologist! Bright and dry sarcasm, funny to me! Staff are so sweet too!

I just returned home from a new patient appointment where I was summarily dismissed as being late past policy. Which btw was 30 minutes and as I pointed out to the person at the desk I was under, even after waiting a few minutes while he went back to check with the Dr. I was still under the policy limit. This is after I waited 6 weeks from my initial call for a new patient appointment. My issue is what is driving the overall management policy of this office? Does the business of health care out-weight the health care itself. Im not unsympathetic to time management but this seems extreme to me. I wonder if there was even a remote consideration to the idea that a person has already committed to a valet or parking expense before they can even get to the office only to be turned away for another 6 week wait. Is there any consideration that I was recommended by my primary care physician because he noticed some skin issues that seemed suspect to him. When implementing this policy within the office, how are health issues like that balanced against the appointment rules. I would venture to say by the way I was treated, they are not. Beware and make an appointment at you own risk at this office. Some how I do not believe the patients interests are at the heart of this business.

A seasoned and very well educated physician, Dr Rachal has been my doctor for 20 years, managing a variety of skin issues and doing so with the most advanced methods and medicine. He keeps learning and that is rare these days. He is the best dermatologist I have ever had.

I was referred to dermatologist concern a patch of skin that been red and the hair has fallen out. Dr Rachal refused to see me and told me to go to a physician. My primary care has already looked at it and referred me to a dermatologist. Is this is how the health industry handles patients. I’m not asking you to treat my hair I’m asking you to look at the skin the hair is attached too. So sad how you are treated these days.

Like so many of the reviews here, I had a bad experience with Dr. Rachals practice. I called for an appointment at my PCPs recommendation. They said I needed a referral, and they would contact me to make an appointment as soon as they got it. I contacted my doctor and had one sent. My doctor reported that it was sent and successfully received by Rachals office. But Rachals office did not call me as promised. So I called them -- 4 times over two weeks! Each time they gave me a different excuse. All of them turned out to be BS! I finally gave up and found a good doctor who can actually manage his practice.

Always treated well by all staff. Very knowledgeable and always conversational. Always takes time to listen to what might be going on.For the other two reviews listed here, I find them to be completely unjustified and without warrant. Ive been to several doctors, and these days as busy as all doctors are, Im sure there are many instances where phone calls cant be returned or you cant get in touch with someone immediately. And just because you have cash, doesnt mean you can do whatever you want and see a doctor.

Never had the chance to meet the Doctor. This review is strictly based on the sub par administrative/scheduling experience. I had been trying to make an appointment for several weeks and jumped through the hoop of receiving a referral from my primary care physician in September. I called several times over a period of two weeks and Dr. Rachal’s admin was never in. Finally, the other scheduler, sensing my pain, promised to have his admin call me back within 24 hours. The next day I noticed I had a missed call but no voicemail was left. The callback was merely an empty gesture with no real attempt to actually establish contact with me. I called again the next day and finally spoke to Dr. Rachal’s admin. The next available appointment would be the first week of February. Almost three months later. Seriously? Why did I go through weeks of inconvenience for this? I called another in town dermatologist and have an appointment in two weeks. Go figure. They roll their calls to a recording that cuts you off around 3:30-4 ish so don’t try calling any later than that. Good luck getting in if you’re a new patient.

Dr. Rachel us one of my favorite doctors. He never seems rushed and is always friendly and personable. He has always figured out the issue, even when other doctors I had gone to before for the same problem had not.

I have used Dr Rachel Mack for years, he is one of the best dermatologist out there he takes time to understand your needs and what is going on with your body. No one likes that Northside hospital bought their practice but that is not the fault of the practice that the fault of government regulations any dermatologist in town will take you up to six weeks to see them what I like about him is he will see you on a saturday.

Dont use Dr. Rachal if you think youll ever need to take your records elsewhere. For that matter, youre better off not using Northside Hospitals Midtown Medical Associates. Their records request is archaic, convoluted, and, even when youve jumped through all the hoops, they dont send the records that youve asked them to send. I requested my records a week and a half ago and my new doctor hasnt received them yet; furthermore, when I call Dr. Rachals office to ask to talk to someone about them, no one picks up, I leave a message, and Ive still not been called back.Awful, awful, awful, and about as unprofessional as one can be. Dr. Rachal himself was ok as a doctor--nothing terribly good or terribly bad about him--but the office and their procedures are just a hassle. Pick someone else.
