Avoid this place. Staff and students are not customer service oriented. My first appointment was 3 hours for an appointment for photos and x rays. My third appointment was cancelled in March 2020, due to COVID, and no call back to reschedule the cancellation of appointment. The school does not operate like a real world professional dental or periodontal office. The dental space office operates like an open floor plan, lots of covid germs floating in the air. During my second appointment, the student working on my teeth, caused the roof of my mouth and gums to become infected from the Novocain shots, for my deep gum cleaning on my upper gums. The student did not offer any antibiotics for the infection. Due to COVID, they canceled my March 2020, appointment for my deep gum cleaning on my lower gums, no follow up for rescheduling. The student does not go over the x rays, for issues with teeth that need to be removed due to infection in the gums. Save your time and money do not have these unprofessional students and teachers work on your mouth. No IV services offered for deep gum cleaning or tooth extractions. Going to be treated by professional periodontist, not paying students who need practice test subjects. I had higher expectations for this school and its students, was greatly disappointed😞

Ive been coming to U of M Dental school for over 20 years. It is the best care and treatment I continue to receive. I like the fact students work is double checked and both students and faculty are great. Granted, there is a lot more time invested coming here; I have the time and is with the drive to Ann Arbor. The cost is also a huge bonus. Otherwise, I would not be able to afford great dental care. Thanks.

It took us 3 years (since age 4) and 6 different dentist to find a place that would pull my daughter (7 at the time) teeth which by then had decayed down to her gums (4 of them). It took a couple visits, first visit was amazing and my daughter unwilling to corporate, to the end result she need a full mouth bottom spacer and some fillings. But it was amazing she went from having to have nitrous and being held down to at the last visit sitting in the chair calmly with no numbing or gas to get a tooth pulled. Amazing staff and student very knowledgeable, kind, and caring.I will be bringing my son here also.❀️❀️❀️

My wife had a root canal done, after the first visit not only was her mouth sore for a week when they were done they sent her out and everyone was gone on lunch, no parking slip or instructions so she had to find someone in another department for help just to check out. Her second visit was to finish the root canal. Afterwards her gums were bruised and dark purple for almost two weeks and is still in pain. The resident who did the procedure had horrible communication skills and zero bedside manners. The only ones in the office who communicate are the ladies at the front desk. My wife has called multiple times about her pain from a procedure that was β€œfinished” over a month ago with no return call from the resident who was given several messages. Over $900 and you’d think that they’d have some respect for their patients.

I have an 11 year old disabled son that I took to the pediatric clinic. In the past we have went to hospital dentistry and they wanted me to give it a try here. I TOLD them he would probably need the swaddle board but they didnt want to use it. I feel like the woman barely even looked in his mouth and said everything looked fine and to bring him back in 6 months. The entire time was spent trying to hold him down so she could look into his mouth. They didnt even do a cleaning! Also, I was there for an hour and parking cost me 2.85. They also dont schedule 6 months out. A dentist where people go every 6 months wont schedule 6 months out? Worse experience Ive ever had and will be looking for somewhere else to take him!

I have medicaid and i came here to have my upper teeth removed and replaced with dentures. My student did awesome and was very attentive. However, in the oral surgery department where my teeth were being pulled, my surgeon left tooth in several sockets which as my gum started healing it trapped the pieces underneath scab in the tooth socket. All it took was to lighly rub the area with some tweezers and one could feel the large pieces. What made me so angry was he wouldnt even look carefully or even let me show him. He kept telling me it was the wall of my socket but it couldnt be cuz it was smack dab in the middle of the socketSo now i have 3 pieces trapped in my gums. Is excruciating painful. Ive been on round the clock motrin for 4 weeks from pain and i still cant wear my stay plate, and depression from the pain has set in. If i can avoid it Ill never have work other than a cleaning done here. You are definitely a number/grade here.. poor bedside manner.

Like alot of reviews unfortunately you can rarely get a call back or appointments. My dentist had sent referrals to the periodontal clinic ive made several attempts after to contact them for appointments its always a voicemail. I will say its first & foremost a school one would imagine that has alot to do with it these are students. At minimal if your treating paying patients at a actual clinic some basic communication maybe one administrator or secretary to answer the phone would be nice. Cant comment on the care unfortunately.

If I could give this place negative stars I would. In November of 2020 I went in for an infected tooth, a broken molar and 4 wisdom teeth.I ONLY went there because I was having really bad tooth pain on a Saturday (nothing was open)So I went to the dental school where the dentist proceeded to poke my inflamed tooth and asked if it hurt (duh) which caused alot of pain and then proceeded to try to strong arm me into being put to sleep for my procedure (they make more money this way). I told them I had to collect my insurance info(I had just purchased insurance the week before) he was obviously annoyed when he walked out and gave me paperwork for a follow-up and told me to leave my info with the front desk. Then Sherri escorted me back to the front desk and gave me her PERSONAL phone number to call with my insurance info to schedule an appointment....Ive calling since November of 2020. It is now March of 2021Their complaint department called me twice but I have yet to hear from anyone at the dental school.

I have never been disappointed, I have been extremely pleased with my care at University of Michigan School of Dentistry . They are more thorough than any dentist Ive seen in my life. You are helping a student, youre getting a second opinion from the professor. After your initial visit, you are set up with an individual plan of action. For people like myself without dental insurance, payment plans can be arranged so youre able to have all your dental needs met. Most people dont understand the importance of taking care of your teeth and gums. Neglecting your teeth can cause many health problems. Once you find a student that you are comfortable with you are able to see the same person every visit, unless they graduate. They will then select someone to take over your care that they feel would fit with you and your specific needs . I could go on and on about my excellent care. I highly recommend U of M School of Dentistry to my friends, family and anyone looking for a dentist. I am sad, the student whos been taking care of me over a year and a half is graduating soon. My heart felt thanks and gratitude to Evans Sachs, I wish him the best of luck starting his career. The world has a wonderful dentist coming to a practice near you. πŸ˜†

I think the teacher should check on students while doing work and definitely before your stitched up to make sure it is correct, now I have to go back and Im scarred. I had a bone infection that I wasnt aware of for years a required all my teeth removed. I have a high tolerance for pain and had tears flowing from second student, mouth was in number and when I brought it to his attention 3 times he finally stopped to re-numb but did upper jaw to numb when I kept saying bottom so had two teeth talented out in extremely pain and I just kept praying for him to get them out so the pain would stop, he was having extreme hard time getting it out and he was frustrated and trying to rush, thought he was going to break my jaw. I pray they take these complaints seriously because this is no joke and at the age if 58 I was traumatized. The scrapped my bones sooo unevenly that I cant even get fitted for dentures so they have to re-cut open my whole entire upper and smooth all bone out and sew me back up, I have not had teeth for about 4 months and Im extremely upset. My family have been going here for 5 years. In a teaching environment, things proceed very slowly. You are assigned a student who is constantly being coached and evaluated frequently. The students are not seasoned professionals. The good thing; no short cuts allowed. Every procedure is done by the book being checked over and over. I have been to private dentists and the bottom line rules. Since the work is being performed by students you are charged accordingly; a lot less than I private practitioner. If you are not able to devote 3-4 hours of your day at every visit, then go to a private dentist and be prepared for sticker shock. If you are on a fixed income, no insurance, broke or just want to receive quality and affordable dental care then this is the place for you.

I used to love the school of Dentistry, until they turned my daughter away for something that was their fault. She was scheduled for an appointment for silver treatment, a 25 dollar cost. At the appointment, we forgot about the money, and they made us leave after the front desk told us we could be billed and after they sat her in the chair for the treatment. Week later, my insurance sends me an explanation of authorization and THE PROCEDURE WAS COVERED! Second attempt comes, its a Mon. She developed pink eye and went to urgent care that Friday. We call and leave a message Saturday saying we had to cancel. Next week, she received a dismissal letter. I called and questioned the dismissal, and was told it still stood despite me literally crying on the phone. I understand policy, but when children are invloved, how do you hold ones such as these?!...and what about trying to charge me for something outright that was covered? Unfortunately, since this is the only place that sedates and is covered by my insurance, I have no choice but to come back but I will never be back after the dental work is complete. Finally, we called the clinic billing office because they dont accept our insurance and, unfortunately, we wont have the money right away to pay for the treatment in full, so she just answered without even letting us finish, that it has to be paid in full period. My wife wanted to keep going there because they have done some work in her teeth already, but we got fed up with their treatment towards us and us never being able to find an answer when we make a call.

I have had very traumatic experiences with dentists in the past. I went to the UM Dental School for service after losing my dental coverage when I went back to school. They have been wonderful! I see someone new every time because they graduate so they cannot always provide continuity of care for semi-annual check-ups (but they try). Each of the 4 dental students Ive had has been very gentle and kind. I get a great cleaning and have had 1 cavity filled - it was done very well. Ive had problems with proper anesthesia in the past but not here. I dont ever worry that they are filling my teeth to fill their wallets the way Ive experienced at other private practices - in fact, theyve let some spots go, watching them, only to have the cavities heal! Without insurance, theyve provided me with with a high quality low cost option to keep up on my dental health.

I do not recommend treating with the oral surgery department. Some of their surgeons are bad news. Very unethical and willing to hide from their mistakes, even to the point of not telling the patient who operated on them.

I took the day off work drove 2 hours from my home town and wasted a full tank of gas to be told medicaid does not and has not ever covered sedation! If im expected to know my job you should know your! The lady i saw also said this isnt the first time its happened. So thank you DEB for NOT knowing what your talking about and wasting my time and money!

Horrible. Sure students and some staff are pleasant enough. But God help you if they screw you out of a no show no call appt themselves by forgetting to put it in their computers that you cancelled an appointment well in advance! They kick you out anyway and dealing with Anne from the 3rd floor is worse than having teeth pulled! Shes an absolute nightmare and rude inconsiderate person with no customer service skills! Wish I could rate this as a negative star review! I have an serious emergency situation and they just gave me a help line number in hopes of finding anyone else to do what they could get over and done with. Shame on you! Hope you never experience this kind of pain!

Zero stars if I could My mom got ripped off she was supposed to get some work done on a tooth so they say she needed to pay her 600$ share after insurance in advance before they could do the job so she did so only for the hospital to tell her they couldn’t do the job cause they weren’t familiar with the inplant she got from another country but then refused to reimburse all the money they received in advance 600$!!!! This really hurt losing this amount of money for nothing watch out people even big hospital can rip you off😩

Excruciating pain . Torture experience. Had teeth extracted months ago. Today woke up in the worst pain of my life. It looks like a bone fragment poking through the gum and the gum is infected. I regret going there. When he extracted the teeth it took him 20 minutes on one tooth. Did not give enough Novocain. I cried. The remaining teeth he extracted hurt also. Nobody should be in this kind of pain. I was better off with my teeth. I wish the student that extracted my teeth had this pain.

When you need the University of Michigan to do something, the university is not there for you.I am a graduate student with a degree in education from the UM. In addition, I have used the professional dental service at the school of Dentistry while I was doing my Masters of Education, there. Now, twenty years after, I find myself not only divorced, but also using my retirements to pay for my children expenses and mine. As a homeschooler mom and a house wife for more than 24 years who was also taking cares of some rentals, the process of bouncing back will take some time. The reality is that the stress of the divorce affected my teeth and I lost two of my bridges and one crown. So, I decided that maybe going oversees will be more affordable than here.My dentist is also a graduated from the UM school of dentistry and he asked me to take a set of circular x-rays and send them to him before I see him.So, I called the school of dentistry, and told the truth. I needed a set of x- rays to take to my dentist in another country. They said NO. They can only do the x-rays if I do my treatment there.Technically, it is not true. I could have gone there for a cleaning, go thru the x-rays, and in my first appointment, cancel the appointment and ask for the x-rays I paid for.I could have lied, but because I am a graduate from UM and try to do the right thing, I did the honorable thing and got penalized. The student who could have taken my X-rates. would have practiced, and I would have had my X-rays, but no, after several interruptions on the phone, the secretary told me the manager, has say No.How did I feel with the treatment of the UM dental office ? humiliated to say the least. I imagine how difficult it has to be for people that uses their services because they can not afford other places. Why do you think I have chosen this route? It is simple. I can not afford to spend more of the retirement money. I have too many bills for a son in college an a daughter in a selective art program. I needed the x-rays.Not all schools or department are like that in UM. I have used the Sport medicine physiotherapists for my daughter and son, and they have been excellent. Yes, I paid full price for all the treatments, but they did a series of accommodations for us because we are one hour away from Ann Arbor. But this exchange was really awful, to the point, I stopped in an Starbucks cafe to write this review.Sometimes being nice would have been,in the long run, beneficial to them. But now, I am not giving any money when the School of Education when they ask for. Sorry, better I will give to the organizations like Interlochen or Legends that are good to my children. If you decide to use their services, I hope you are served with more consideration. For me, what is left is a letter to the Dean of the School of Dentistry, and I am done.Did they know I was a graduate and that I used their services before. Of course, we went thru that when the secretary pulled my data from the computer: date of birth, name, last name, have you used our services before... you know the usual... probably by now, thy added a note to my file... caller was upset... yes, she was.

I took my son to the Motts oral surgery Dept, which Im being told is also a part of the School of Dentistry. My son had a abscessed tooth evaluated. The doctor and NP was very professional and willing to listen to my concerns regarding my sons special needs and sensitivity to medications. The ladies at the front desk during checkout was NOT professional or helpful !! I called the Motts oral surgery center after leaving the appointment to get more information regarding my sons OR scheduling and insurance approval information. A lady named Jennifer or Ann talked to me in a condescending rude, and pushy unprofessional way when I question their procedure process as far as surgery and appointment scheduling. She seemed confused and unsure of the details of my sons treatment plan. I tried to explain to her why the the doctor was advising that my son be scheduled in the OR. The lady talked to me as if I was lying to her. She said a rude and condescending tone that she had to consult with the doctor or nurse practitioner to verify what I was saying to her. When she got back on the phone with me she then said that I was correct , but however if my insurance doesnt approve the procedure for the OR I will need to bring my son to the Med Inn Center for the procedure because the nurse practitioner said that he would have to go over to the Med Inn Center. I questioned why because thats not what I was told by the nurse practitioner during my sons appointment. I was told I could bring him back to the oral surgery center. The lady at the front desk said in a condescending rude tone, because thats what they prefer and thats how it will be!! She was rude unprofessional and unwilling to answer my questions regarding the med Inn Center. She said she did not know anything about the centers scheduling or procedures. I decided to call the Med Inn Center because I need more information before I allow my son to be seen there. I talk to a lady at the med Inn Center and she was wonderful!! She was way more professional, friendly and helpful than the secretaries at the Motts oral surgery center. She advised me that doctors from the oral surgery center at Motts come to the Med Inn Center once a month to work on children. I feel The ladies at the oral surgery center should know this, but did not offer me this information and was unwilling to give any information, and also very unprofessional and rude. They also tried to give me Medical advise and told me not to contact my insurance. This is unacceptable for a secretary to think that she has the authority or the right to speak to patients this way and to give medical advice because these ladies have no credentials behind their name. They are nothing more than a secretary and scheduler. If you take your child to the Motts Childrens Oral Center be prepared to deal with this type of unprofessional treatment from the secretaries at the front desk. I would like to mention that one secretary at Motts oral surgery Dept (Jessica) was much more knowledgeable and professional and helpful during the scheduling of my sons appointment.

Ive been trying to get in contact with someone to schedule me an appointment for over a month, yet, no one will give me a call back or pick up the phone. Its the only place in my area that removes impacted wisdom teeth. I already have a referral and I cant just walk in to set an appointment because even though its the closest in my area, its still about 40min drive from me and I dont own a vehicle.. My wisdom teeth are causing me headaches and Ive been eating soft food for 3 weeks now witout much food option and already lost 22lbs in 3 weeks. Thanks for such a crappy everything.

Prices are much higher then they will initially tell you.Initially I was told 70 dollars for an xray, then 30 for an exam and they could start doing cavities. I have two single surface cavities that I have been trying to deal with since march. So I took a day off in may and had the xrays done for 88 dollars. Next I got a call 3 weeks later from the student after calling them and they want an additional 100 for the exam before they can touch my teeth. Is such a dramatic price hike normal?

Do not go if you have a long drive. I drove across the state cause they are the closest place that would take my health care. I left with plenty of time ahead of me, but, because I got lost when i had to go to the bathroom, I was ten minutes late. I was turned away and i do not have extra cash to try and make it there again. If I could give them 0 stars i would. Parking its self was a pain to get as well.

The best advice I can give regarding the Dental Faculty Associates is that they are out to swindle you for as much money as possible! Pre-determination estimates are randomly processed with different dentists until the provider who charges the highest fees is established as the contracted rate. As a physician who works in medicine, this is completely unethical and fraudulent. Therefore, BUYER BEWARE! Make sure you get an estimate WITH THE PROVIDER WHO IS GOING TO TREAT YOU BEFORE you proceed. And even then, know that they will add an additional 30% to the bill. Which is why I advise all my friends and colleagues AVOID this place if specialty work, ie root canal, crown, core and biopsy, needs to be done.

My father has been a cancer patient at U of M for over 30 years, the medical school has saved his life....unfortunately the Dental School is not capable of dealing with the side effects the radiation and chemotherapy has caused to his mouth, teeth, and throat. The first issue was that they were unable to properly fit dentures, and then most recently they are billing him for an experimental prosthesis that he was unable to use and was told it would be saved until his throat healed enough to use this device. Honestly, I think they thought he would die before his throat healed to have this device reattached. Well, here we are a year later and the prosthetic is no where to be found yet they are insisting the bill be paid for this item. The doctor said from the beginning it was an experiment, that it may be too early, and that payment would be due when successful. The billing office and Dental Clinic do not work in cooperation. Calls are not returned, and the person who answers is never the person you need to speak to - they will have ________ return my call.....but no return call. The billing office calls and threatens, even though they have been told repeatedly the bill will be paid when the prosthetic is successfully in place. For cancer care U of M Medical is second to none, for complicated dental work - look elsewhere!

Now Im supposed to make a four hour drive there again so the can re-cement a bracket they placed YESTERDAY?!? And they wont refer him to somebody closer to me to reglue those brackets. Probably because they dont want another dentist to see what theyve done to my child. This is exactly how you get people to never ever go to a dentist again.

My fiance was here today and the older nurse from the patient admitting clinic, room 1390, was incredibly rude and disrespectful to us, me especially...she made me wait outside, yet my fiance cant speak shes in so much pain. So the lady keeps coming out to ask me questions instead of allowing me to sit in the room. The referring dentist didnt send the referral, so she came out and chided me like a child for not bringing our own copy, and complained saying we went to the wrong place and should have went to emergency upstairs...weve talked to about 5 people to get here and weve told all 5 the same exact thing, she has a broken lower left molar that has grown into her jawbone at the root. She needs it extracted, shes in intense pain, and the hospital and dentist said it needs to come out and referred us here...they directed us to where we are now, so why is this lady standing in the lobby talking to me as if Im a child when if shed stop staring me down with those judge Judy eyes and be polite and nice shed get the answers she needs without upsetting the patient. She refuses to update me to my fiances status even though my fiance has texted me and said there is an empty chair in her dentists cubicle...she threatened to make us come back since our referral wasnt just the way she wanted it. This woman alone has single handedly ruined our time here and no matter the level or quality of service my fiance receives from the ACTUAL dentist, we wont come here again.
