Chuck did a fantastic job. I have never been to a salon before, always a barbershop. I have long hair so I finally gave it a try and will have a hard time going back. He delivered exactly the cut I described (and I gave a very poor description). The wash at the beginning is a really nice feature. Very reasonable prices for service and location $45 for wash and cut.

Angelina was so personable and knowledgeable on hair care. Love my fresh cut. Good vibes, I’ll come here again.

I scheduled a mens haircut here because I wanted to nail a specific hair style. I thought a stylist would be better suited for this task than my regular barber...was willing to spend more than usual on a haircut to achieve this. I explained my dilemma to the guy as well as my reasons for wanting this specific style (looking for a decent, business appropriate hair style thats still on the longer side). I gave a verbal description of the look (a longer layered mens haircut) and provided 5 detailed pictures for reference. The guy was very flippant with the details provided and looked at all 5 pictures for a total of 7 seconds. He then proceeded to take way too much off the sides, way too little off the back, and styled my hair by slicking it with product. He also failed to mention upfront that hes cash only (other stylists here are not), so I had to hit an ATM once he was done with the hackjob of a haircut. By the end of my visit, I paid over $45 for a terrible men’s haircut from a clearly disinterested/lazy/sloppy hairstylist. While I cant speak to the quality of the other stylists or how this place handles womens haircuts, I can confidently say this: if you are a man, DO NOT get your hair cut here. Instead, go to a barber that can’t afford to ignore the needs of male clients, has a staff thats invested in the task at hand, and won’t charge you $50 for a trim + “styling”. Disappointed to say the least.

I called to make an appointment for my 8yo and was told they just do kids of clients. They are busy and just have no time for kids cut. However, I mentioned my child has dense curly hair and really doesn’t have “kid” hair and was told no can do. This is sad that you cannot appreciate a child’s hair nor a possible adult client. I would not recommend them since they practice ageism!

Monserrat has cut my hair a few times and recently she dyed my hair for the first time. I asked for a purple that wasn’t too vibrant but still noticeable. She did amazing and gave me exactly what I wanted. She explained everything she was doing and reviewed the color with me before applying it. I would trust Monserrat to do anything with my hair. I’m obsessed with my new hair

I got a haircut here a few months ago and the quality was great. Unfortunately, since then I have tried to go twice and both times ended up walking out because I waited so long past my appointment time. The second time they called me to let me know that the appointment was going to be pushed back by 30 minutes, but then when I came at the new time and waited another half an hour..I still wasnt seen. I will not be coming back.

I had a great experience with Kurt - he was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and helped me style my hair to exactly what I wanted, and he gave me some excellent tips on caring for it!

This is the only place I’ve ever been to that I’ve actually been happy about how my hair is cut. I’ve been here a few times and every time my hair looks amazing. I have super thick curly hair so a lot of places don’t cut it right because they cut it like straight hair. But every time I leave here, my hair looks fantastic. The stylist I used to go to doesn’t work here anymore so I was a bit worried about having someone else cut my curly hair. I had Darby for the first time today and this is the best haircut I’ve ever had. She took the time to style my curls and she was also super nice. The rest staff is always super nice as well. This is the only salon I go for my hair cuts. Darby was great and will def be going back to her next time.

I have thicker, curly hair that has been the bane of my existence for years. Every stylist who ever touched my hair before coming to Orbit cut my hair like it was sleek and straight, which left me unsatisfied and looking like a Christmas tree. I started going to Jess at Orbit about two and a half years ago, and she is the only person I will let touch my hair anymore. She understands how my hair works, as she has a similar texture, and she is always willing to listen to my concerns and offer helpful advice on haircare, color, and maintenance.Beyond Jess as a stylist, the staff at Orbit are wonderful, courteous, and kind. You are always greeted as you walk in, offered tea, coffee, or water, and if you have to wait, the staff do their best to minimize your wait as much as possible. Calling in to make appointments is a breeze, and prices are reasonable as far as womens haircuts and coloring go. I love Orbit and it has become my most trusted place for haircuts and coloring!

Best salon ever! Have been going there for at least 10 years...ALWAYS see Jess or Claire and ALWAYS leave super happy...EXTREMELY good playing with color and experimenting with new ideas (although I tend to stay in the reds)..They are truly artists..Quite frankly, they are worth waiting for AND worth the pain in the ass downtown driving/parking is...in fact, its the only time I go downtown anymore! Not only are they super talented, they are both very good people... Will never go anywhere else!

I have been to Orbit before when Wendy was still there, and left very satisfied. I am one of those people who goes a long time between haircuts for some reason (and I really shouldnt). I saw Claire this month. She was great with the initial consult of what I wanted. I just needed enough to pull back into a short ponytail for work and gave her creative freedom for the rest. I wanted a very low maintenance cut, 1 or 2 products max to give my fine hair that oomph it needs to show off its natural waves. Claire did a spectacular job, I have received nothing by compliments on my hair. I am definitely going back to Claire to keep this up! She is super easy to converse with and we had a great time. Everyone is super friendly and I love the atmosphere too!It is downtown Ann Arbor, so definitely plan ahead for getting to the salon (it is upstairs, but there is a visible sign on the street)...if you need to park I highly recommend making an appt for non-rush times (mid morning, mid afternoon), otherwise you might run late d/t lack of parking!Check with the receptionist when you book your appt, some stylists only take cash or check. Claire takes cash, check and credit :) (double check anyway)

I have thick, coarse, curly hair, and sometimes stylists dont know what to do with it. That wasnt the case when I got my hair cut recently by Angelina at Orbit Hair Design. She gave me a very stylish bob.

Beware if you have short hair.And TL;DR the stylists here wont necessarily ask you questions (though they should), so you probably need to be 100% explicit or youre going to be unhappyI went in and said I wanted it to be evened out since Ive been growing out my hair from nothing. Youd think that when someone says they are growing their hair out from literally shaving their head, a stylist would ask for clarification when cutting off relatively significant amounts of hair. I said I wanted the front slightly longer as my hair curls up at the front making it appear shorter and with my neck trimmed a little (the last time it was cut my neck wasnt trimmed at all so I had hair peeking out). Almost immediately after that, I passed the point of no return because several inches were cut off every part of my hair starting from the back. My hair was a bit below the mid point of my neck before she started cutting. Other than the very front which she left about an inch an a half longer and was dramatically tapered(despite me explicitly stating I didnt want anything dramatic), which looked awful, my hair was cut to just above the bottom of my ears at longest. Monserrat did not attempt to confirm how short I wanted my hair before cutting any of it. She just cut off a drastic amount as opposed to cutting off a little and then getting shorter as she went. Some parts of my hair lost 3-4 inches. I was able to pull it back and still wanted to be able to but now cannot whatsoever. Id like to note that my hair was pulled back when I walked in and when I met her, indicating that it was something that I did. It will probably be at least 4 or 5 months before I can again and a minimum of 7 months before I can attempt the cut I wanted to get in the first place. I look like I have a *very bad* mom haircut. I was not asked for any clarification on how short I wanted it. Yeah I want it evened out a little is vague and can use clarification (that wasnt asked for), but that does NOT mean cut at least 2 inches off everywhere starting with ~3 from the back, especially when the cut I ended up with wasnt even in length at all. I paid for my cut but left livid and I feel like I shouldnt have paid. Womens haircuts by Monserrat are listed as being $45+ on their website. I expected to be charged $45 seeing as I have short hair (that was literally mauled and cut significantly shorter), but was in fact charged $55. I tipped her as well in the shock of the moment, and its the first time Ive ever regretted leaving a tip. This is not what I wanted, and I consider it fair to say this is the worst haircut of my life.Additionally, Monserrat did not ask how I wanted my bangs cut (I was attempting to grow them out) and cut me side bangs that I cant tuck behind my ear without asking. When she started doing this I said I didnt want bangs and she said she was just evening it out (which is what she said when I commented on what she was doing to the back of my head). I dont exactly consider side bangs even.She also cut my hair on a center part after I told her I typically part it to the left. She said she was cutting it so that it wouldnt matter where I parted. I went to another stylist at another studio as soon as I could after. It was literally within 3-4 hours of the cut I got done by Monserrat because I was so upset. The other stylist was so confused about why the layering was so uneven on both sides. This is probably due to the whole part thing and layers being added that I never asked for and was never asked if I wanted. Who adds layers to the cut of a person who asked for their hair to be evened out? I also feel like she cut it without consideration for my hair texture or what it would look like when it wasnt styled (though it still looked awful styled). Even after the other stylist corrected some of the things she did, I still feel like my hair was butchered. I dont understand how the majority of the reviews for cuts at this salon are 5 stars. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Mel is an excellent stylist. She understands how to cut hair based on length, texture, and facial shape. Whenever I go there, I get two cuts--one cutting the hair to length/trimming the split ends and another to texturize, shape, and create a style conducive to my hair type (fine, but a lot of hair porous, and oily) and facial structure. This is rare, most stylist understand how to cut to length, but little else. Ive been to multiple stylists in the past few years at reputable salons in the tri-county area, and Mel is by far the BEST, no contest. I get compliments on my hair frequently, with people often telling me how well it is cut to my face structure and shape, She also is a really funny, friendly, and honest stylist - if It wont look good, shell tell you! Getting a cut from Mel is life changing, if I lived out of state, Id fly back once a quarter to get a hair cut from her...thats how good she is.

Tldr: I got a horrible haircut there last week, and what was worse was the way the stylist, Angelina, treated me (very disrespectful and unprofessional).When I called to make an appointment, I mentioned explicitly that I am a new customer and some other detail about my hair/needs.I went in for my appointment on time (earlier) and met Angelina. I explained to her what I wanted, I showed her pictures of haircuts I had had/liked, asked for her opinion, and clarified that I wanted a bob haircut that would not be messy, would be professional, and that would fit my hairs natural texture (wavy). I mentioned I dont blow dry my hair all the time.She washed, cut, and then started to blowdry. She said she will blow dry and then see what the cut is like and make changes. I have had previous stylists do that. So, I believed her. After a lousy blow dry, she was just like, yep, done. 2-3 minutes before she was done, the receptionist came over & asked: how much longer? She said, a couple more mins. I started to worry, because looking in the mirror, my hair looked nothing like done. I decided to trust her that she is not actually going to let me go like *that*. It looked horrible. I should have taken a pic, but what did I know. The cut was NOT DONE. She hadnt even given me a mirror to see my back, or asked me at all what I thought, and literally said: okay, my next appointment is here, I have been running late all day. You go home and come back to fix it if you want. I was very shocked not only of her behavior, but also of the tone; it felt very aggressive and accusatory. I said to her that I understand you are late, but I dont think this haircut is done, & I would also like to see what it would be like the way I actually would wear it once it is done (wavy). I also asked her to show me the back of my head. She said: if you didnt want your hair dried you should have told me. I am not going to curl your hair right now. I reminded her that she had said she will dry, and then *finish the cut*. I also told her that my previous stylist would first blow dry, then use a curling iron, and that I thought she was going for the same thing. She never asked me how I wanted it styled, & the point didnt even seem to be styling but finishing/revising the cut. I dont know how she wanted to put a hot curling iron on my still wet hair. She was very angry and rude. I was trying to keep calm & communicate. She kept repeating how she doesnt blow dry if she wants to curl (to which, same response as above). +, the cut was not even done. I tried to tell her how the one side of my head was too puffy and looked bad. I am sure she would not have taken a photo of it to put on her portfolio. She kept saying that she is late and I can come back. I said, no, I am here now, and this haircut is not done. She finally told the receptionist to reschedule her next.She then started to thin my hair/cut some more. It looked a bit better. I was not sure what to do. I did not trust her anymore, but also my hair looked bad, and I could not just leave. In retrospect, I should have asked for the salons manager. But her colleagues (maybe also the manager?) were there, no one seemed to care. She grabbed a curling iron and styled a bit. It looked better than it did. I wanted to get out of there and not interact with her.She took me to the front desk. I still left a tip. She reiterated the previous sentiment: we spent 20 minutes to talk about what you want (not sure how accurate that was, but doesnt matter). I have had many haircuts and many conversations before haircuts before. Thats just part of the deal. Very accusatory tone and statements. I reiterated that they knew I was a new costumer, they should budget time for conversations, they cant tell people to just get out when their haircut not done and act like I have done something wrong. She then just left. I finished the payment and left. No one else ever said anything or apologized.I left the salon and felt so violated and disrespected, personally and physically (hair). I am not going back there.

Just received the worst hair cut of my life. I asked for thick face framing and instead received what I can only classify as seventh grader bangs. Along with that, there was random lengths cut in the attempt to do layers, but instead, my hair now looks disheveled and awful. The reason I am giving 2 stars is because I did not have to pay for the cut because I was so unhappy with it. They do great customer service, but the haircut was overall not great.

I had an appointment scheduled with Jessica at 1:15 on the day of a blizzard. The salon contacted me around 12:45 to let me know she was running late, which I appreciated. I got there at 1:45 and wasnt seen until about 1:55. By 2:15 she had finished cutting my hair and, because she was running behind, pushed me onto someone else (who also had a client waiting) to get my hair blown out. This second stylist spent about 15 minutes blowing it straight and left it damp and curly, which by any standards looked pretty terrible. By this time, Jessica was already cutting another clients hair. I was very unhappy with my cut (it looks like an ugly triangle) but felt I couldnt say anything because everyone was with new clients already, and I would either have to wait or interrupt another appointment. I couldnt have felt less important and paid $65 for a cut Im going to have to get fixed elsewhere. While this may have been a specific situation, I wont be going back to Orbit.

I made an appointment at this salon for around 5:00 pm so traffic downtown was awful. The location is terrible, hard to find, and there are several rush hours on campus as students are all rushing to get to their next class. There was no parking and the salon had no free parking for its customers, so expect to pay extra for parking. I had to walk a few blocks from the parking structure to the salon. I thought I gave myself plenty of time to get down there, I left work at least 45 minutes before my appointment and my work is only 5 miles away. But I was late by about 15 minutes. I finally enter the salon and my stylist is getting HER hair done, and said that she cant take me because my appointment will run into her next client. It was a big waste of time, and they were not customer oriented, friendly or helpful at all. I will NOT go back to this salon. I immediately called Tricho salon at Briarwood, who got me in right away, the stylist did an excellent job and I could not have been happier, so the day was not a total waste.

Loved the cut I received here and will be coming back.
