Extremely disappointed ! First off recieved a confirmation message day before with the wrong time. I showed up an hour prior to my appointment . next I waited 45 minute in exam room before speaking to the nurse. Next my doctor was Not even told I was there leaving me waiting & waiting. Lastly a NP showed up instead of a doctor & her recommendation was PT. PT sent me there REALLY?! I will not recommend ever. TOTAL INCOMPITENCE! I PAID FOR THIS!

After seeing my PCP, an Orthopedic, and a Thoracic Surgeon for thoracic pain both front and back (after a sailing injury) I was referred to IBP. I was seen by Tya Pringle. She ordered up a Thoracic X-ray, Thoracic MRI and then a Mylegram and CT Scan. Offering no treatment she then referred me to Dr. Hoffman, a Neurosurgeon. He said I had Arthritis, Degenerative Disc Disease (normal for my age of 66) and a tiny spinal cord hernia. He told me to take 800 mgs of Ibuprophen and the pain would go away. It didnt work. Alleve didnt work. Tylenol worked somewhat. He offered no treatment plan except for exploratory surgery to look for a cyst (not shown on the scan) that could possibly leave me paralyzed. Back to my PCP who ordered up Tramadol as needed and PT. After a few weeks of PT I went back to IBP today for possible other treatment as I keep reinjuring myself with some activities. They said there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to an MD and she said they couldnt help. Scheduled another visit with my PCP for next Monday. Hoping for a referral to someone that can help me. No more IBP Specialists for me.

PHENOMENAL PEOPLE! P.A. Ivey intently listened to what was happening to me and her and all her staff were willing to go above and beyond to help me. Even so far as to help my husband get me back to our truck because I’m so weak and can’t walk very well due to spinal damage from a wreck several years ago. They returned all of our phone calls promptly and extremely kind and understanding. They treat you like family and tell you like it is, no sugar coating. I’m so very thankful I came here and you will not regret it if you came too.

Ive been getting injections here for many years now. I see Dr. Wall and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about him! He is always very friendly, explains everything he will be doing, and has a great attitude. His nurses are wonderful also! They are very friendly, they double check everything to make sure everything goes according to plan and to make sure there arent any complications, their attitude is great also! Im always nervous but they are very nice to me and help me through it with great/positive conversation to take my mind off of it. They always call me the next day or two to make sure everything is OK and will answer any questions you may have. There are 2 negative things I will say about Carolina Back Institute. One would be about some of the people who work up front... There was a girl checking people in who really had a nasty attitude. It was like she was so miserable and she wanted to make sure everyone felt just as miserable as her! She was rude and rolled her eyes when I asked her questions. Second is about the phone system. It is very difficult to get someone to answer the phone! When you call it rings and rings, goes to voicemail (which isnt set up), and then you have to call numerous times back to back before someone answers the phone. I definitely recommend Dr. Wall at Carolina Back Institute! Hope this helps anyone looking for back pain relief!

I have had nothing but good experiences with this office. I am seen and out of there quicker than any other medical office I have ever been to. Lyndsay Wilson is wonderful and caring. 5 stars all the way!Since the review some things have changed. I had been very happy with this practice for 3 1/2 years. I never missed an appointment and never had any issues. I was told in October that the new office policy requires patients to see Dr. Wall once per year and I scheduled an appointment in November. He is only in on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I drive from Wilmington to Southport and work 13 hour shifts. My schedule was changed in November to Tuesday, Thursday and Friday so I rescheduled for December. Once again my December schedule was same so I traded a day with the only other person who does my job. I received a call at 5 am that morning that coworker was unable to come in so that left me to have to go in. I rushed to get ready and get to work, which by the way, is an extremely busy urgent care and the appointment slipped my mind. I then received a discharge letter due to this after being a patient for well over 3 years. They were kind enough to refer me to another specialist but now its starting all over again. Very frustrating.

Outstanding medical care for persons with chronic issues causing severe pain.Don’t be put off by the a few unhappy people & their reviews. The staff are very professional and thorough. Unfortunately some patients may not take responsibility for certain choices they make and may think doctors solve everything. This practice complies with FDA, CDC, state & federal regulations that mandate prescribing practices. I’m very pleased with their care.

Very Disappointing. Spent a lot of money on office visits, Xrays and MRIs (that they recommended) to be told they cant do anything. They didnt even look at the actual Xrays or MRI, just read the reports. I could have done that myself and saved $100s of dollars.

Im guessing getting the money is priority before a patients pain or needs. I never said it would not get paid. I just didnt have to give it. But at least I had my copay. When I spoke to the other girl she told me someone would get back to me they never did. Maybe just maybe if someone would have gotten back to me, I would have had this resolved by now. No 1 got back to me so I thought it was resolved. I am in serious pain and have been for a month or more waiting to see the PA because she was booked. Not even looking at the fact that am not on any meds. I guess doctors now a day are in the business more for the money and less for the patient being taken care of. Or maybe its the fact that I was told that they wanted to do a procedure to my spine and I was not comfortable with it and cancelled the appointment well in advance. Or it could just have been that my appointment was at 4:40 p.m. and they needed to be done by 5:00pm. Policies are always important but remember without the patient you have no job. Oh and all that was owed was $181.00 not like I owed thousands of dollars and acted as if I did not want to pay at all. I have never been so unhappy and disappointed with a doctors office as I am right at this moment. I would never recommend a place that I feel that a patient is not valued. God bless

Mariah is a real “congenial” representative for the IBI, in fact our 11 year old has better communication skills than this individual... Follow-up? She is on it. After the doctor made an expedient appointment for my wife to have an MRI on Saturday the 28th of September, we waited until Tuesday, the 1st of October, to call and see what was observed in the MRI. Mariah, as sweet as she could be, told us “the doctor will call you once they review the MRI”... We waited, called again on Thursday leaving a message, but no return call. Called again on Friday 4 October, when Mariah informed us that the MRI was never sent over from Delaney Radiology, something she forgot to tell us on Tuesday when we first spoke to this charming individual. This time Mariah instructed us to contact them to get the MRI results sent over to IBI. Well we obviously could tell Mariah was overwhelmed, so we did just that. The personnel from Delaney Radiology told us the MRI results had been sent out on the 28th of September to the Independence Back Institute. So we called Mariah back to share this information and she informed us that she never received the MRI results. Then (knowing it was a long shot, probably out of her scope of work, but we took a chance) we asked if she could, contact Delaney Radiology and track down the MRI results and call us back, the time was 9:30 a.m. on the 4th of October, She reluctantly agreed.... To our surprise( not really), no return call? No MRI results ever reviewed by a physician? So my spouse continues to suffer from extreme back pain without any medication while Mariah no doubt, feverishly attempted to track down the absent MRI... So our treatment is delayed, not by doctors, but as a result of poor performers at the front desk who don’t give a rats a** about anyone but themselves, and are dissatisfied with their own position in life, they feel the need to disperse their happiness to the people they are supposed to serve. Poor personal skills drive away business, waste people’s time and force people to look elsewhere for medical treatment. I will not be recommending the IBI to anyone I know and I know a lot of people who work in a Warehouse!

This is by far the slackest group I’ve ever had to deal with. This is the third time I’ve had dealings with them. I had major issues with the billing department getting me a bill the last time and it seems it’s the same this time. They sent me for an MRI and it’s been almost two months and they have yet to contact me with results. Thank goodness the pain has subsided. I’ll never go here again, ever. They are not the only game in town and I’ll take my business elsewhere.

My wifes Neurosurgeon, Dr. J Alex Thomas, referred her to Dr Gimelli for treatment. The manager of Independence Back Institute would not allow Dr. Gemelli to see her because she had cancelled a couple of appointments with Dr. Wall several years ago. The reason she had to cancel was because of an infection, and was told by someone at Dr. Walls office that they could not see her if she had an infection. When I tried to explain this, was treated incredibly rudely by Independence Back Institute manager.

This Place is a great way to waste time and money, as they claim they would never! The staff starting from front desk to management. Upon my arrival locating the office was very frustrating, and the entire office shuts down for lunch. So dont drive all the way across town just to find out they are out to lunch until, whatever time 12:30-1245? No sign stating to lunch! Thankfully a nice lady who was early, said they were on lunch. Then, the front desk, had a employees children at the counter while I was there, I felt as if my information was just laying about wondering eyes, from anyone at the other side of the desk could of seen. While reason I had to go into office was to fill out paperwork. Then, I was told once my medical records were revived I would get a phone call to set up an appointment . After a Month, I called asking if they had the right number, and was placed on hold several times, which sounded like the lady on the phone was helping ten other people, continued to place me on hold asking my birthdate 3 times. To tell me nothing had been recived at all, even though the paperwork was sent. Had the records sent again, and still no call. I was told the previous Drs diagnoses was something they didnt treat. Having multi skeleton muscle issues, was told the doctors there didnt have time to even have me come in to get a proper reason behind the reason of intense pain. Then the supervisor I spoke to pretty much was rude, by no means did he help. Had no concern about my health care and regards to paperwork, which was from a dr who has no clue whats going on with my neck and back. Hints the referral. This place has wasted a month or more of my time. Think twice before you put your life in the hands of these people. They obviously dont have anyone but them self or lunch on the brain. Thanks a lot Spine institute...great way of helping your Wilmington citizens get thier Life Back!

Poor communication, rushed and dismissive service. This office really tries to move as many patients in and out as possible. The result both on the phone or in person conveys an attitude that you are unimportant and they have other things to do. Unfortunately this extended to the nurse and Dr. Gemelli, who I saw for my visit. All interactions were rushed, Dr. Gemelli asked very limited questions regarding symptom history but most importantly did not discuss any treatment options available aside from his own personal specialty (fluoroscopically guided injections). Basically Dr. Gemelli checked 2 reflex points in my leg and said my symptoms sounded like a disc problem (duh) and that well need to schedule an MRI to know where to proceed with an injection. Oh, and by the way the next MRI available isnt available for a few weeks, thatll be $210 for paperwork and 3mins with the Dr. In the meantime enjoy the pain you are in.Their billing/insurance service was also terrible. My visit occurred in early January, when healthcare plans were changing. I asked the office personnel several times before and at my visit to ensure my insurance plan was covered (BCBSNC). I provided them with my insurance # and they said it was A-OK. Guess what I got from BCBSNC later that month? A notice that this provider was now a non-participating provider and the $210 would be all mine to pay- Luckily this notice arrived days before the scheduled MRI that would have cost about $3000 out of pocket.I tried to call their insurance/billing # several times to discuss the insurance/billing problem. Its ALWAYS busy. I left several msgs, they did not call back. I felt stonewalled every step of the way. Either pay up or well sell your debt to a collections agency.I have no problem paying for the office visit, but I have a major problem with their inferior customer service, hurried Dr. visit and an office that favors getting people in and out quickly over accuracy or good Doctor-patient communication.FYI: In full disclosure, Dr. Gemelli attended The Ross University School of Medicine which is a foreign Med school usually attended by those whos MCAT scores/GPAs lead to rejections from U.S. Med schools. It is located on the island of Dominica, West Indies.
