I just had a tumor resection from here last week. Dr Huffman is the top of his field. I will always be thankful for his work, this is the second round of surgery, first time out was the removal of 3 tumors, one pesky one decided to make a repeat appearance 2 years later. Dr Huffman once again removed it and all is well and good. Thank you Doc, job well done, again.

I have been in the office a couple times in the last year. Experience has always been positive. Staff is friendly and helpful. More specifically, Alina Kamath made life saving decisions. Her thoroughness facilitated the discovery of problems that were able to be remedied. She changed my life and her polite and caring style is the gold standard in Health Care.

This practice saw me on 3 occasions after a work related back injury covered under OWCP. They prescribed me drugs, referred me for MRI, referred me for an epidural, and assigned me to physical therapy. It was agreed I needed surgery to correct the problem - however for OWCP they needed to confirm my condition had been aggravated by the injury. Keep in mind, I also had multiple witnesses who saw me hurt myself and was part of a federal investigation. When I requested they complete the medical provider part, they refused, then they stonewalled, stating they would only do so AFTER SURGERY. As shown above, they had already treated me 3 times. No person from Atlantic returned my calls or responded to my emails. The confirms to me they ARE NOT professionals. Dr. Thomas did surgery for my wife and he is a gifted surgeon. However, you see from the reviews there are a number of issues with their office practices. I never saw Dr. Thomas. After 2+ months seeing Atlantic Spine, I was no better nor closer to gaining any improvements in my back injury. NONE. That tells you all you need to know about their focus on care vs. caring about the $$$ they charge.

Every time that I have been there they was great. Dr. Huffman have done surgery’s for me and getting ready to do L-4 as soon as I loose some lbs. Lol. Got a appointment in March and going to let him see how much I lost. Dr. Huffman will never suggest a surgery unless they can help you. Dr. Knob sent me to him and between the two of them they have been helping me a lot.

If I could rate my experience at this office lower than one star then I would. Incredibly rude staff, incompetent/unknowledgeable nurse practitioners. I was misdiagnosed as having a mild herniation that would get better on its own. Thankfully, I was smart enough to get a second opinion because I needed surgery to prevent permanent nerve damage. Stay away from this office!

I was hesitant to be seen by this practice. They’re online reviews made me nervous. But I’m really happy I did. The receptionist was very nice and made me feel at ease. The nurse in the room was weird, and a bit quiet, but it was early. Dr. Beecher was incredibly patient while I asked a lot of questions, and never made me feel like he was in a hurry. He was not pushy about surgery either. Told me I needed to talk to my family and consider my options. He said he would be happy to see me again if I had more questions and wanted to bring them. Overall this experience exceeded my expectations, although the yellow paint in the waiting room is ugly.

Nice staff and they get you through to the exam room fairly quickly. The PA and doctor my husband and I interacted with were nice and I believe provided adequate care but they didnt seem to be on the same page about how to finalize referrals for us. The secretaries are great. There was some extended wait times but overall it was a positive experience.

I wish I had come to Atlantic Neurosurgical sooner. I was well taken care of by the front desk receptionist. Erin took me back and did an excellent job taking my personal history. Dr. Thomas is obviously an expert and gave me several options. Donna helped me with my follow up appointments and Crimson scheduled my surgery. Both were professional and answered all if my questions and I had a lot. After my surgery Crystal helped numerous times with billing and explanation of costs. From beginning to end this was a positive experience.

I recently was treated by Dr. Alex Thomas for an S1/L5 fusion of my vertebrae and I highly recommend him. Hes friendly, informative, and a commensurate top notch professional within his field. Im extremely happy with (although still healing) how concise, precise, and expeditious the procedure was (our NHRMC Hospital Staff was equally amazing during my overnight stay). He spared me a good bit of pain from some others I knew that had undertaken similar procedures but experienced complications with their respective surgeons process, results, and treatment(s), and even their attitudes. His medical assistant (whom took care of my scheduling/insurance questions/etc. was also a pleasure to work with). The front office staff itself had some challenges (room for improvement in customer service, attitude, communication, organization, and otherwise) throughout the process which prompted me to be more proactive although in this day and age, you have to be anyway... especially concerning ones health! Dr. Thomass PA promptly reconciled the issues posed by the front desk and ensured not only was I taken care of, but all of my experiences were not just simply addressed, but used to continually better the practices staff patient experience. This showed immense integrity in leadership. Im guessing this is why some may get the wrong perception (via review rating alone) on the caliber of surgeons we have access to here. A 3.4 star rating average is highly misleading and done so in poor taste by past reviewers for the talent here. All minutiae aside where the rubber truly meets the road, I highly recommend Dr. Thomas and entrust him with anything and everything of mine within his respective field of expertise. Thank you for everything!

I had cervical fusion surgery by Dr John Thomas in 2013. He did an excellent job and totally solved my neck/pain problems. I highly recommend you see this Dr if you are experiencing severe neck discomfort. I should note that he did not schedule surgery on my first visit, he tried several other options first in hopes of avoiding the fusion surgery. Only after he determined that surgery was the only option left did he schedule the surgery; I appreciated the care and attention I got.

I dont understand the complaints on here. There are requirements for specialty offices...and that is to have a referral and all documents and MRIs so the providers can do a treatment plan. I agree the front desk could be a little more caring. But the doctor and the PA are amazing. I had the best first impression as did my husband. The couple we spoke with in the waiting area were super happy with their results. We all had Dr. Thomas and His PA...they are an amazing team and very informative and educated. I would and will recommend them. They came highly recommended to me. And I am happy I found them. Although, I must say their medical assistant that you have to deal with to have your paperwork done for work could be a little more polite.

My wife had an appointment with Dr. Beecher. I went with her. The PA Josh came into the examining room and began his examination. After about 30 minutes, Josh said he would consult with Dr. Beecher and be back. After waiting 25 minutes no one ever came back. We left the exam room and told the office staff we were leaving. PA Josh came by and ask if Dr. Beecher had come in to see us. We told him no. He said he must have been called in to see another patient. Glad we were not scheduled for surgery. He may have decided to see someone else. Never saw Dr. Beecher.

I had no problems getting into my appointment. I know there are times when the doctor cannot be there on time since he may be using his surgical skills on a patient at the time. The staff treated me well. To the people that got an attitude and went somewhere else, you passed up on an excellent surgeon who would have done a professional repair.I just had a cervical disc replaced with an articulating device yesterday and I am getting around great with minimal discomfort. I cannot be happier with my results so far!Dr. Huffmon was my surgeon and he is well worth the wait (if you have to). He is a pull no punches, get to the point man. Thats only because he is very confident in his skills. And I think there is nothing wrong with that.Dont let you attitude keep you from getting the perfection you desire.

I had a appointment today with this place. It was not a great experience. I filled out there paperwork minus my social security number. I was told that it was a requirement to be seen. I offered the last four of my socialsecurity number as well as my identification and insurance card which was still not good enough. So I was told that they would reschedule me when I decided to give them my social security number. All that which a nasty attitude. She also have my wife the same attitude and sarcasm. Thanks but no thanks Ill go somewhere Im treated with respect.

I dont understand this doctors way of scheduling surgery. When I went in for my exam, he wanted to do surgery 2 days after seeing me. I couldnt do that...so the next available was 2 Fridays away. I just now get a call (4 days pre op) that my doctor has an emergency case (in 4 days) and cant do my surgery. Now he is putting me off for another week. This is bad business. You dont bump a days worth of patients for one case. And how do you have an emergency 4 days in the future? (Dr. Beecher) I am wondering if this is a sign for me not to have surgery.

I had an appointment with Dr Thomas, and when I got there They took me back and had a lady check me. I didnt see Dr Thomas or any other doctor. I came back after a full body x-ray with contrast and I was told by the man at the admit window that the doctor said I really had a bad back but that the doctor said he couldnt do anything for me. I have called several times to find out what bad back meant and was told Dr Huffman was my doctor. I didnt see him either. So what to do.

Dr. Thomas and PA J. Bagley saved my life, literally. The care and concern they showed me was beyond what most doctors these days give. I had a brain surgery in Myrtle Beach that went terribly wrong...after my husband took me to the ER in Wilmington, I was told that my head was filling with spinal fluid, due to my shunt coming undone. Dr. Thomas was able to correct the issue, but while I was under I hemmoraged. Dr. Thomas and Jack Bagley were able to stop the bleed and mend the complications. I spent time in ICU and was very well cared for. Had it not been for these gentleman, I probably wouldnt be here today.

Horrible experience! The receptionist will not even make an appointment until according to her, she gets a referral, even if your insurance doesnt require one. When you question her regarding it, she says oh we need your medical records, not a referral, she also states they only do surgery not other procedures to reduce pain which is not what website states. If you have been seen by specialist in another state you should be able to make an appointmentbefore medical records are sent, not here with this person, my insurance even called them to explain we dont need a referral. They need to change there policy and replace this person and start behaving like doctors to help people with back pain.

I had herniated disc at C6/C7. Doctor Thomas listened to my issues, reviewed my MRI and discussed all my options with me. He took my age into consideration (34) and suggested we try the minimally invasive (foraminotomy / laminectomy) route vs a fusion. Thankfully I went to him and listened to him as it seems to have done the trick. I am 1 month post surgery and feeling much better. The first week or so after surgery was rough and had me nervous but time has made a huge difference. I cant thank him and his team enough. I am not sure why others had bad experiences but thankfully mine was positive. Dont let some of these reviews scare you from at least talking to Dr. Thomas.I would however, stay away from Emerge Ortho at least in my experience. Though I am sure others would disagree.

I am a retired disable veteran who had a referral faxed over and the receptionist will not even make an appointment until according to her, she gets a referral, even when it was faxed and verified it went through an hour before I called by Tri-care. When I questioned her regarding it, she said oh we need your medical records when we receive it. I asked her to call me before the day was over to let me know if she received it or not, I have not received a phone call as of yet. So I did what any 55 year old retired person with outstanding health care should do; had Tri-care prime change my referral to another Neurosurgeon. If she is any reflection of the physicians that work their, imagine what kind of health care you will receive. She is another reflection of the treatment of veterans and would have enough never to say by the way thank you for your service, you have got to be kidding me! I am also a Pastor and I feel if youre not capable of being a servant, which is what they are in the business of, then close up shop and stop playing with other people lives.

I havent even stepped into their office and this is the rating I am giving them.. first the receptionist IS extremely rude, she is very cold and unprofessional. She constantly spoke badly of my insurance- Tricare, she also stated how the military can never get it right when giving them new patients and how she cant stand them.... so I needed my MRIs transferred from TX, and when I told her to submit a request, she acted as if it were too much for her to do (but yet I cannot be seen without my MRIs) finally she did submit it. Today, the day before my appointment, Im calling to see if they received my MRIs, and actually spoke to a nurse assistant to the doctor who was also RUDE!.. I told her I have an appointment tomorrow, had they received my stuff?.. She says oh well the doctor isnt going to be in Jacksonville tomorrow, so I ask, WHEN WERE YALL GOING TO NOTIFY ME??? She says the doctors baby is coming early and thats none of your business... uh its my business to be notified that NOBODY will be at the Jacksonville location!! She said the lady for new patients (which is the receptionist) said she spoke to all patients and that nobody had an issue with coming to Wilmington or changing their appointment.. I NEVER GOT A CALL!! Lucky for me I called the day before.. my husband was going to take time from work to help with our son, for us to stupidly show up at an empty office.. I told the lady this is ridiculous, and to cancel the appointment that I will get a referral somewhere else, her response?.. thats your prerogative maam.. I am disgusted with the way I was treated just through the phone!! There is NO WAY I would let them near my back!! Thats laughable!!
