Dr Massey has done carpal tunnel surgery on both my hands. My left in 2018 and my right last week(2021). I wish I had done the first one sooner. My hands feel great and the scar is minimal. Ihad a great experience with both surgeries. I have recommended Dr Massey before and I will continue to do so

Great experience. Dr. Massey explained ALL my options for carpal tunnel syndrome and let me decide. I opted for surgery: bilateral carpal tunnel surgery at that due to time restrictions with my job. He did an excellent job, my pain and debilitations are gone, and Im able to enjoy everything in life again. I agree with Carly Bs review: I didnt choose him as my buddy. I chose him as my doctor.

I cant even give one star, but its not letting me post without. So Ill give the one star to me for deciding on another doctor! I was sent from the ER with a shattered wrist and was told by Dr. Massey that I could either opt for surgery or wait 2 weeks in a sling and then Id be put in a cast for 4 weeks. He said to go home and think about it and let him know in 2 weeks. Several days later and in excruciating pain I thankfully went for a second opinion. The new doctor, a real orthopedic surgeon, said if I wanted a fully functioning hand I needed surgery. So ten days after the initial accident and delayed because of the bad advice and care given by Dr. Massey I had surgery to put in 7 pins and a plate. I can only imagine what wouldve happened had I listened to his, do you want door number one or door number two treatment plan. The real and competent doctor told me that every day without surgery it would be harder to heal. Thats exactly whats happened, the extended pain and length of time without real care has been detrimental. I cringe to think what condition my hand and wrist would be in had I decided to go home and sit on the couch and heal in a cast with a comminuted fracture!!

I did not go to a surgeon looking for a buddy. I went to Dr. Massey as I had been injured in a motor vehicle accident in Feb 18 and aware of him being direct. After physical therapy as well as over 1 year in a brace with zero pain control or relief & completely unable to use my fingers or hand because of severe pain with no sign of getting better needed to see a surgeon. Dr. Massey first tried cortisone shots breaking up the 4 areas into 2 visits so that while yes I would have pain it would be better than doing all areas at once. Though I have a severe phobia of needles; I have previously had cortisone shots in my shoulder so I knew what he was saying was true about avoiding more severe pain. After the cortisone shots failed to work I had to wait a month to get in to see him; in that visit we discussed another round of shots (which always have an 80% success rate) or surgery on 2 areas (ganglion cyst with a 50/50 success rate and decompression thumb with a 90% success rate). He wanted to try another round of shots since I was just shy of 3 months no pain. So he does not always want to operate.I opted for surgery as my wrist remained visibly swollen which had been dismissed by ALL doctors at this point. Dr. Massey operated in March 2020 and was surprised as the MRI did NOT show the full situation. He found the reason my wrist was swollen was due to (I cannot remember the proper name only his description) white fluffy cloud masses in my entire wrist causing the additional swelling - which could only be caused 1 of 2 ways trauma or a disease I would know about. This turned a surgery from 1 hour into a 2 hour surgery. All of the nurses and anesthesiologist at his surgical center are warm and friendly.I was given a narcotic for pain relief which did not work - when I called his office - got a reply within 24 hours. Unfortunately I have a few medication allergies - he didnt want to risk an allergic reaction so recommended Tylenol and Motrin alternating every 4 hours at the beginning of the pandemic during OTC medication hording. At first I was skeptical of this recommendation & not thrilled at trying to find both meds - I learned my lesson as for the first time since my injury had some relief. I was given physical therapy the day after my surgery but they didnt get rebandaging instructions after removing me from a cast going up to my elbow. When I called Dr Masseys office - Corina discussed it with him and had me come in immediately. They wanted me in a splint and would send bandaging instructions to the PT office. This is the only time Corina got a little grouchy in front of/with me - while trying to put the out of box brace on a still swollen from surgery wrist/hand. At no point did the pain make me pull away as she was being as gentle as possible I did object a little - she wasnt thrilled at having to do a custom cut splint on the spot but did upon realizing I wasnt going to fit the brace - only took a few minutes.Never once did he dismiss the pain I was in or laugh. His office staff was not warm or friendly but never rude just straight to the point as is he. I was released from his care in April 2020 - completed physical therapy by August. The only reason my recovery has taken so long is I work on a computer typing 40 hours a week and could not take time off during any of this besides for the surgery. Thanks to Dr Massey I spend my days pain free & back off activity as he instructed when I start to feel anything. I am getting better everyday.

On May 16 , 2014 Dr. Massey agreed to operate on the hand of a of 14 year old teenage at TMC. Dr. Massey was paged several times and they realized Dr Massey was intoxicated. The operation was cancelled and Dr Massey was sent home by the Chief Medical Officer. The case number number #140651 Az Medical Board of Orthopedic Surgery Board.. He was under on probation for two years. Check it out for yourself. He was reprimanded and I was unable to find what that reprimand was. He is not the doctor that you think he is. He has a Jackal and Hyde personality. I was his his patient since 2007. I had 7 surgeries on my hands. I got a phone call him on Friday and he was screaming at the top of his lungs!! I was in shock. In what universe is it appropriate to scream at patient? This outburst made think I really didnt really him. Thats when I decided to look into his history.I reported him to AMA, American Medical Association. If you are looking for a good hand surgeon that will treat you with respect, keep looking, because Dr. Massey isnt that .Beware of this doctor. (gave him 1 star because this site will not allow 0 stars)he

Two times I got unwarranted rude attitudes from his staff. The first instance was when I called, stated my name, was cut off and was told you called here already, dont call back, we will call you. The 2nd time I waited six business days after a never study and his office never called back on the results. I called them and left a message and told them I needed a brace. Three business days later I got a rude message. Got this condescending numbered list. One we didnt get the results... Called back asked for an apology. She never called back within 24 hours as stated on her answering service. They are extremely slow with returning communications in general. Dr. Massey laughed at me because I was going to have pain the rest of my life. Without my consent he put a bone from a dead man in my wrist. Trying to see Dr Becker instead. They dont drag their feet and get rude with patients in his office. Even if I have to wait a month. His office is worth the wait. Dr Massey you and your rude staff are fired!!! I would avoid this man. If you are in the hospital and he is sent to treat you. I would advise that you ask for another surgeon.

Dr. Massey was able to remove a massive amount of scar tissue off of my 12 ye old daughters hand to give her full use of it again. She will be going through another surgery in the next couple years to repair the webbing of her hand as well (bad scar tissue from a tread mill accident when she was 2). Dr. Massey was an amazing SURGEON! His bedside manner left a little to be desired, but I want a surgeon - not a friend. He was AWESOME and I have referred him to many people. I dont care if his staff isnt chatty - again, I wan a GREAT SURGEON and that is what we received! I would DEFINITELY recommend him to anyone!

Patients beware ........... at first appointment which was about 10 minutes in front of the Doc - surgery should be considered. last appointment which lasted about 5 minutes in front of the Doc - you really need surgery. they cant put a cast on that fits the way it should. they dont listen. they do what they want. my cast rubbed by skin raw and they refused to offer me other options for casting. if you want someone to really care about your health and listen to your concerns, DONT go here!!! Money is their game....BTW... new Doctor, no cast, new brace that fits, skin healing and a wrist that does not need surgery. Im renewed! USAADR!

The staff is absolutely rude. Corina at Dr. Masseys office had a severe attitude for absolutely no reason. I would not recommend this office unless you are looking forward to a negative environment and bad looks.

Dr. Massey removed a cyst and corrected the underlying cause of the problem in my thumb knuckle. He resolved a problem that a previous surgeon was not able to correct. I did not go to him because I wanted to hang out socially (he is is not especially warm and fuzzy) I went to him because I think he is a fanatically talented hand surgeon. If he he cant fix it, its probably because it cant be fixed.

I had a terrible outcome - the bone growth on my thumb was removed but a year later it is still swollen and hot, the carpel tunnel issue still sends zings up my arm, and the growth on my knuckle was supposedly removed but the knuckle still has a huge bump on it. After several PT appointments, with no improvement, I was told there was nothing they could do for me. I saw a reputable hand surgeon - she said she wouldnt risk making matters worse with more surgery.I should have picked up on the hint from the receptionist. When I mentioned that was calling for a different doctor the receptionist said Dr. Massey had taken over his practice - did I want to do some research before I made an appointment? Big mistake on my part!!!

I was referred to him by my hand surgeon who was retiring. Dr. Massey was great, understood my concerns, listened, explained things, and so far has proven to be correct. His staff was kind, and the surgery center that both he and my prior surgeon use is one of the best.

The words uncaring, condescending, rude, dismissive and unprofessional come to mind. My mother fell and shattered her wrist and she was referred to Massey. He was supposed to be on-call at St Josephs but never responded when she was in the ER. We saw him three days after her fall. He was very rude and unprofessional. The appointment was for 2:30 and we werent seen until 4:30. We spoke about options with Massey and opted for an open reduction due to my moms terrible allergy to metals. Massey couldnt even tell us what metal he would be using. He didnt know. Ten minutes after deciding on an open reduction a nurse came in with a consent form for a closed reduction. Meanwhile, wed been waiting in the exam room for an hour while Massey saw other patients, instead of finishing with us. His idea of pain medication after surgery is Percocet or Vicodin. My mom is allergic to both. He basically said that he couldnt do anything for her for post op pain management. He suggested that she take Tylenol or Aspirin. For a shattered wrist. I would NEVER recommend this man to ANYONE!

A Butcher. Dont let him put you under anesthesia because he will do things to you that you dont want done. He is callous and seems to lack modern skills. He cut my thumb half off instead of attempting to repair. I begged him not to before anesthesia. Because it is not my dominate hand he marginalized my shock and became snotty toward me when he unbandaged me and I cried. Find a doctor with more skill and concern for you.

His communication approach is adversarial. He condescends. He would justify treatment protocols based on a gut feeling then change his reasoning in future appointments. My hand suffered a poor outcome under his watch
