We wanted to break things up for our child for his first summer camp experience. He went to the Darien Y for 4 weeks and the LRDC for the next 4 weeks. After his second day at the LRDC he got into the car and said, I like this camp a lot better that the Y! He did like the Y as well...minus the 1/2 mile daily walk to the other facility. Both camps have very good and thoughtful staff. The LRDC has sooo many staff members. The staff size inspired confidence when is came to thinking about our childs safety.

Whilst I agree the camp provides good facilities for the children, I have to address another issue which greatly bothers me.Fees to attend the camp are extremely high and cater for People that can afford to send their children there, so what bemused and bothered me as a Parent when my child was Working hard all day, every day in very hot conditions, which of course is what is expected when you work at a summer camp, however the money they paid the young camp staff was exceedingly low and in my opinion unacceptable and taking advantage of teenagers trying to earn money for the summer, they pay not even minimum wage but something in the region of $2 per hour!! How is that ok??? I believe there is an outdated clause when it comes to working for such camps that they can do this, however it is not right, immoral and totally taking advantage of young people, Who work very hard for not even close to minimum wage, I know of no other camp that pays their young staff such an absurdly low hourly rate, Longridge summer camp should immediately rethink their policies with regards to how they compensate their young staff, especially after they charged such an extortionate weekly fee to attend the school you think they would have at least enough money to pay their staff minimum wage, I hope they address this, speaking to other young people they have also voiced the same concerns with Longridge summer camp, please stop taking advantage of the young adults that work at your summer camp who don’t speak up for themselves for your financial again, and compensate them correctly for a job well done, not ok to pay $2 or so ph!! do the right thing and pay these young adults for the important job they do just like other camps in the area do, Longridge camp is the only camp I know of that pays these ridiculously low hourly rates!! Not cool!!

The staff are amazing, and it was the best camp I ever went to as a child. Thats where I learned to Swim, how to play Ping Pong, and I got better at Sports, Arts, and I was shaped into who I am today. I will forever be grateful to everybody that made my 9 summers the best I could have ever imagined.
