This place is awesome. You will love the staff who are friendly. The meals here are not always the best. Mrs. Lou will do her best to help you with whatever you may need or refer you to someone who can help.

The food here is good and its also free. Most of the people working here are volunteers and are kind and caring but there are 1 or 2 that have become jaded and have forgotten how to treat peaple. A lot of the patrons are homeless so there is usually a show with lunch. Spartanburg city police usually have a role in the show.

The soup kitchen is good for when you are waiting for money to come in(whether from your job or government check) or if youre residentially challenged. Basically, its helpful for those moments when you need nourishment. It would be nice if they offered services that help individuals get back on their feet(but every soup kitchen should do that, especially if the local shelters dont provide information).

I have been in need of a meal at times and Im grateful for the Soup Kitchen. I have always felt welcomed by the volunteers that are doing as Christ did. That is loving all people.I know the negative reviews are old and I know the story behind the reviews but as it is stated in the Soup Kitchens mission feeding the hungry is a wonderful service but we as humans need not only physical nourishment but also spiritual food. Someone that is unspiritual cannot truly address the spiritual needs of another that is vastly more important than some people realize. If a blind man leads another blind man both will fall into a pit. We all need Jesus but someone that doesnt know Jesus cant point another to Him.It isnt a matter of being judgemental its a matter of looking out for the eternal good of those that come in. Eternity is more important than here and now.But again I say I am grateful for this service and wont hesitate to go to the Soup Kitchen when Im in need.

Only God can judge me...and Lou Landrum, apparently. You DISGUST me. Whatever kind of tax-exempt status or any other benefits or subsidies this place is getting needs to be taken away immediately, and given to people who ACTUALLY WANT TO HELP THEIR FELLOW MAN, ALL OF THEM, instead of using their power and resources to further their political agenda and self-justified discrimination.I guess its safe to assume that if you are a homeless or hungry person in Spartanburg, whatever you do, DO NOT let them find out that you dont believe exactly as they do, or you will be turned away with an empty stomach, and berated for being an ugly blemish on the face of the community. Because after all, thats what Jesus would do.If you stop being hateful hypocrites and make this right, I will remove this review.

Shame on this soup kitchen and their discriminating ways! What an ugly ugly woman Lou Landrum is on the inside. Atheists are people too, and in the Bible only God is allowed to judge someone, and yet here this woman is...acting as if she is better than them and judging them so to the point she thinks they dont need their help!! Help is help no matter who it is from, and sending away a group of volunteers just because of their religion is a shameful disgusting act. If anyone is going to hell her butt should feel rather hot for such a harsh act of being biased and judgmental towards a group of human beings. Everyone is equal and no one is better than next person. These people are hungry and it doesnt matter who feeds them, as long as the hungry are fed.

To all of the people degrading the soup kitchen:You have rushed to condemn the soup kitchens actions. It is their prerogative as to dress code or whether to accept a potential volunteer. Some of you used Jesus as an example of inclusiveness without requiring a change in their life. Jesus is a God of forgiveness but when forgiven we are not to continue in that sin. Yes, He told those wanting to stone the woman caught in adultery that He did not condemn her but He also told her to leave her life of sin. He broke Jewish tradition and spoke with the Samaritan woman when He sat by the well and asked for a drink of water. He then offered her a way to be forgiven of her sinful life, which she not only accepted but was a witness for the whole town. You speak of acceptance and judgment yet it seems you judge the actions of the soup kitchen management. A Christian has no choice but to live in this world but we are not expected to accept sin and the rejection of Christ as being good. There is a difference between judgment and knowing what God requires of us. Only God judges. It is being obedient to His Word when we stand by the standards the Bible teaches.I wont say you have not read the Bible, but often the ones saying we are wrong or judgmental is one that has not read it, but says what they think should be in the Bible. Well, we didnt write it, it is the inspired Word of God to all mankind..I say do come volunteer, but be prepared to adhere to the standards that a Christian organization sets for such volunteers. You should have no real problem doing this unless your main purpose is not to actually volunteer but to bring bad press on this organization by using the news media as your voice. If not volunteering then please come for the meal prepared by someone that has a heart for the downtrodden. Come and accept the right hand of Christian fellowship being held out for you.I have never been in the Spartanburg Soup kitchen but I will now seek to volunteer to serve in any capacity they can use me while adhering to their Christian belief and dress code. All ( including me) have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God. I once removed my old garment and put on a new one. Being imperfect I still stain it but in repentance it is made clean again, daily.Anyone coming to Christ must be willing to leave their life of sin and to begin anew.In Christ,Mitchel Gainey
