This is a great place. They have a good selection of high quality frames and an experienced staff who are ready to help when you really need it. A few months back I completely destroyed my frames. They were able to fit my lenses to another frame so I had something to use while I waited for a replacement pair. A moth later I broke the new pair. This time they were able to repair the frames but I decided to get a spare pair - just in case. I was ready to pay full price because my insurance only pays for one pair a year, but they only charged half price! Two weeks later I got the call that they were ready. With so many things on-line and impersonal these days, it is such a relief to know there is place you can fully trust.

I have never had fun picking out glasses until I came here! The eye exam was quick and when it was time to pick out glasses the salesman did a wonderful job showing me which glasses were free. When he noticed I wasn’t finding any I liked he did a great job helping me pick glasses that were within my budget. We were laughing the whole time and he gave me so many options to try on. He was also honest about what glasses brought out the color of my eyes/ let me know what glasses were in style and good for the shape of my face. It was seriously a wonderful experience! I also never felt pressured to buy something I wasn’t confident about. My husband was also waiting outside with our dog and he made sure I showed my husband the three pairs I was considering. He was also very knowledgeable about my insurance. It was seriously such a wonderful experience and I had so much fun! I highly recommend Spex in the City!

The front desk staff is challenging to work with. They rarely pick up their phone, will try to sell you overpriced products you dont need, and are not always there when they say they are open.In addition, the process of receiving your product is unnecessarily long. One pair of lenses took nearly three months. We tried to call and check on the status of our lenses, but they would not pick up the phone or respond to messages. Based on this (and seeing that other reviewers had this issue), other family members took our prescriptions to other offices. We all received our glasses and contacts in under two weeks. And, special features that Spex in the City charged over $100 for were free at the other office.The optometrist at the office was over 10 minutes late to our appointment. However, unlike the front desk, they were thorough and professional. I wish I could write a separate positive review for the optometrist. If you do have to come to this office, I would recommend getting an eye exam and taking your glasses/contacts prescription to another office.I hope that anyone else that deals with this office has a better experience than we did. We will not be returning.

Great selection of hip frames, unbelievable service to the point of incredible, model for other small businesses, ten year plus customer and purchaser of at least four pair of glasses. Still using three of those pairs as I like to rotate pairs. They back up their work with incredible personal support even after manufacturers warranties have expired. Will work with your insurance no matter little they cover. Literally sent hundreds of customers their way, with outstanding satisfaction overall.

I have been going to Spex in The City for almost 10 years.Most recently the arm broke off of my only glasses and Mario was able to fix them for me while I waited. I would recommend Spex in the City, a small shop with friendly service.

Telling clients to pay in cash and not use their insurance and then charging their insurance anyways is called fraud. And it’s illegal.If you want to do business with a company that openly commits crimes and doesn’t actually care for your eye health, this is the place to go.You could have at least given a proper, thorough exam for charging them double.

First time here and wow, these people are ON IT. I had a 9:30 appointment and waited 3 minutes or less to see the optometrist. I was greeted immediately and they knew my name without discussion. The doctor was efficient and kind. He was enthusiastic about his job. The glasses specialist/stylist was fantastic. He looked at my face shape, eye color, etc and chose some frames that I am so excited to receive. Also enthusiastic about style! All Covid protocol was observed. As someone who works closely with the public and with customer service, I really appreciated this entire experience. I will be returning for future checkups!

The owner, Mario, is amazing. I always feel treated with great care. Mario has TONS of glasses options and he is really helpful when it comes to choosing the right pair. When I find one that has a shape I like but I am looking for another color, he will pull out 3 new options that I can try on. Always fun! As a college student, he has helped me find affordable options within my budget. Scheduling appointments has been easy for me, and they always give me a call and text reminder before my appointment.

This business is a scam and a fraud. They will take your insurance benefits and additional money straight from your pocket, and when you try to correct the entire situation with them they refuse to budge. You could end up with a long legal battle and/or lose a lot of your hard-earned money going here, so I would never recommend it to anyone.

The optometrists are totally fine here, I have never had a problem with the doctors. It’s the front of house that can be vastly improved. They seem to have new people running the front desk every few months, haven’t been able to find someone that consistently wants to stay. They do not return calls. I have called and left messages with no response. After I got my prescription, the doctor wanted me to trial a couple of brands of contacts to test fit/wear over time since I had a reaction to previous pair of contacts. They didn’t have one brand on hand, which was totally fine, and said it would be a couple weeks until they got them in and said they would call me. They never called me eventually I called them back a month later when I remembered and they said they were still back ordered and to give them another couple weeks. This kept going for months even after I went to the office in person. The same excuse: they were back ordered and would need a couple weeks, even after months had gone by. After maybe 3 months of this eventually I gave up and went to another doctors office in the new year when my insurance benefits renewed and got a totally new eye exam and prescription. If you don’t like wasting a bunch of time and money, I suggest going elsewhere.

Unique selection and exceptional customer service describe my experience with Spex in the CIty. The owner has a keen sense of style, the first frames he had me try on were clear winners. (I had spent two months exhaustively trying on frames at a half dozen other shops without success.)The frames I chose were not inexpensive, but I couldn’t find them cheaper on the internet, which leads me to the conclusion the pricing is competitive.Lenses were ready three days after I gave the go ahead. Attention to detail made sure that frames were fitting perfectly.For me, glasses are a major investment. After experiencing Spex in the City, I wont go anywhere else. Im an artist in Seattle (which means Im poor), so I deeply appreciate how far they go to make sure their services are affordable for me. They really know how to get the most out of insurance and rebates! Plus, they always make me feel like a valued customer even though Im not dropping the big bucks. The optometry is top notch as well which is important to me with my strange eye problems and chronic migraines. You can tell they really care about their patients. Nothing is rushed and all questions get answered. Im very grateful for this place!

I have been going to Spex in the City for 10 years. The quality of care has always been professional, consistent and prescriptions accurate. I never have to wait for my appointments, when they schedule a time, that is the time I am sitting in the chair.Most importantly to me - Mario treats you like family, with warmth and care. He truly wants you to be happy with your glasses, contacts, and/or service. He helped me pick out my last frames and was patient as I decided on one of the many selections.My entire family needs vision correction (well not my 5 year old yet - crossing fingers :). The optometrists and staff are very kid friendly.I would definitely recommend Spex in the City to anyone looking for a home for their eye care.We were recommended Spex by some friends and I have personally recommended to friends. I see some of the lower reviews below - I (or my friends, Ive checked) have never-ever experienced poor service. They place a reminder call prior to appointments always the day before. If there is a back order on my contacts, they provide me with a week or two supply free.

Low quality customer service-the front desk is terrible at returning calls and one of the receptionists accidentally gave me trial contacts that were supposed to another customer’s prescription. Everything seemed very disorganized.I ordered contacts right before the lockdown happened and I called the office multiple times and didn’t receive a call back. I’ve decided to go to a different office for reliable customer service.

This local optometrist and eyeglass frames shop has great deals on obscure and and foreign designer frames! And they will help you find the best deal for fitting the lenses that you want! Very helpful and friendly staff. If you cant find what you are looking for, they will be glad to show you other frame styles stashed in the back room. I have been here several times and was impressed each time.

Coming out of lockdown, I was desperate to get a new prescription and specs. As my insurance had changed since my last visit to the optometrist, I was looking for someone new.Scheduling was admittedly a little bit of an issue to begin with, but I have to say I understand. As small businesses struggle to keep up with new covid guidelines and expectations, scheduling has got to be a nightmare. Mario and his staff were exceptionally apologetic about the problems and eager to make things right.Doctors appointment was totally fine. Very quickly and accurately dialed in a new prescription.Meeting with Mario (optician and owner) to select frames was great. Again, its all changed now that were wearing masks – trying to pick frames while theyre fogging up with a facemask is a new drag. The shop appears small, but the selection seemed endless. Every time I turned around, Mario had new frames and styles for me to try. I was genuinely spoiled for choice and attention.I am a writer and spend most of my day staring at my keyboard or reading. I also ride a motorbike, so distance vision needs to be pin-sharp as well.Mario helped select a style of progressive lens and truly took care to balance the focal points to my personal needs and lifestyle. Wherever it is that you get your eyes examined, I absolutely and enthusiastically recommend Mario as the optician to fill your prescription.

The doctor was incredibly helpful and kind in my exam and the person who helped me pick out glasses was fun, personable, and most importantly incredibly helpful. I stumbled in here on impulse while walking back home, needing someone to help me install a lens into a pair of frames - a pair of frames, I might add, that I did not purchase at this store. The infinitesimally small screw had been nearly stripped because my equally minute screwdriver was unequal to the task. Mario fixed it in moments, though it was almost past the point of no return.Inside the store, I was captivated by the extremely well curated assortment of frames. Its hard for me to walk past a wall of eyeglasses frames, Ill admit (the same can be said for cheesecake, but thats a far less expensive habit). The glasses on offer here are a perfect mix of lovely, conservative offerings liberally interspersed with distinctive, bright, and even quirky statement frames. Many are European, where people seem to care more about their eyewear: beautiful, fashion-forward colors, modern finishes, and some made from the new, super-light materials. The number of good choices are almost overwhelming, and many of them seemed to be larger frames, too, which are hard to find for me in womens styles.Despite being on his own in a busy shop, Mario attended to everyone warmly and with interest, giving all of us unflaggingly good suggestions about what worked and what didnt. And he was honest - he wont you its good if its not. Important because, lets face it, when were trying on frames, our eyesight for the most part isnt gonna give us the fidelity we need.He hooked me up with a pair Im smitten with, and when I told him my vision benefits dont kick in for another two weeks, he insisted I not purchase them until later. What vendor does that, rather than urging the sale? When I pointed this out, he laughingly responded that he was a terrible businessman. I disagree - hes a relationship builder, and hes my new glasses vendor for the foreseeable future, and I feel fortunate for having found it.Needless to say, he did not charge me for fixing my glasses--though truth be told, Im considerably less in love with them now, having seen his offerings, than I was when I walked in. This is the first time I am writing a review ever, but I cant let this slide. Terrible organization. It was busy when I visited and had to wait a long time, even with an appointment. They said they would sent my bill the day after (which I need for my insurance) but I still dont have it. Calling is difficult, got through once while trying numerous times (for weeks now). Was given an email address but no follow-up even after sending reminders. Glad I was only there for an eye exam and did not order anything else yet...

There is a reason this place gets glowing reviews, and its because they are awesome! I have been going here for years and am treated like family each and every time.The owner, Mario, is so warm and caring. He has taken such good care of my family that I refer everyone here who needs great glasses and contacts. Elizabeth really knows her stuff and is very patient and helpful with my 10 year old and my baby. Also, their frame selection is terrific. We always leave this place feeling good!And Dr. Hamilton is very simply the best optometrist I have ever had. Ive been wearing glasses and contacts for 30 years so thats saying something. After many frustrating experiences with not-so-good optometrists I was so thankful to find him. Friends and family often remark on how well I can see, and at such long distances. I tell them that it helps having the best eye doctor and opticians in town.

Whew I don’t even know where to start but the beginning:1. The exam took a whole 7 minutes, didn’t even check for glaucoma or my eye muscles. When I went to another doctor at Everett Clinic (totally recommend), the prescription was wrong. When I wrote that in my original review the owner said the doctor wasn’t from the store but he just came to the store for exams and to leave him a bad review. Ok.2. He told us to pay cash and not use our insurance (Premera) because we only got $150 in benefits and we should use it towards our lenses. So we did. Reader, this is wrong. We get an anual exam plus $150 towards lenses. Fool me once I suppose.3. I went to Lens crafters to get new glasses. They told us our benefits were already used. So I call the insurance. Well, to my surprise Spex had filled for contacts and the exam. We didn’t request any contacts. So we call and ask him to retract it. He said he did.4. 9 months later I get a bill from the hospital where I got my second exam saying the insurance rejected the claim because I had already used my exam benefits.5. I call spex to try to solve this problem, nothing. Saying it was a fitting, we didn’t get any fitting. And if we had, you told us we were paying cash to avoid losing benefits from our insurance. That’s called scamming. I have given you multiple chances. You have constantly given the worst service I’ve ever received in my life.Long story short, if you’d like to get a wrong prescription and get scammed at the same time, I’ve got the place for you.

What started out as a not-so-great experience (with a former employee) at Spex in the City, and some subsequent issues with Davis Vision, was completely turned around by Mario going above and beyond with amazing customer service. The amount of time hes willing to spend with each person to help them find the right frames is a feat of time management, but he wants you to leave happy. And he carries a broad array of styles that is constantly changing and updated. At first I thought Id never go back, now its my go-to for new frames!

TLDR - go here! Stop looking for anywhere else! They believe in supporting your vision as much as your fashion and ultimately also understand your pocket book!This is beyond long overdue. I found Spex in the City 8 years ago and have been rocking the glasses styles from there with so many compliments over these years. The owner is a delight and always a warm greeting ... everyone else there over the years has been exceptional and gives awesome advice and guidance on selecting the right frame. Quality counts kids — truly!! I started with style - and yes that is important ... but quality of service and product are even more important.Early on I bought my first pair with fancy coatings ... new to the PNW and the mist everywhere on my glasses I managed to scratch the coatings off in less than a month. I went in to pick up another backup pair and they noticed I was wandering around not being able to see correctly out of my scratched lens. They replaced it for free!! No coatings - just lens... but that got me right away! They understood I would go wandering through life like that for the sake of fashion having fallen in LOVE with my frames and they just couldn’t let that happen!Different pair - years later - now in school and struggling financially and I broke the temple off ... I was devastated and could not afford new glasses at all!! I went in and they rebuilt both temples with new hinges for a bargain of a deal! Now that kept my business for life and just blew my mind on the level of service and willingness to see me fixed up and able to see!!!Today I get to go back — I am so beyond needing an eye exam and the 4 years of these glasses need some upgrade and I am giddy with excitement on what will be my day and my choices and the next years of mad compliments and chances to share my love for Spex in the City!!!Thank you for reading my entire Ted Talk! Went in for my appointment which went fine. After ordering contacts back in May I called to cancel my order after waiting for 3 months (they said it was an issue with their distributer). I still havent received my refund. I’d highly recommend finding another optometrist.

Ive been going here for three or four years now, and keep going back even after moving has made it take an hour each way to get to the location. The owner(s) are genuine and friendly, and the eye care is excellent. My prescription has improved by almost 20% since I first came to them.

After I spent close to $1000 on a really good exam and some very cool frames, I find I have to go back to my old glasses for distance/driving. I kept hoping my eyes would adjust and they do offer a 30 day return policy. But I waited too long and take full responsibility for that. I can see the computer really well, but I wanted more clarity on distance and that I didnt get. Doubt Ill go back.

I got glasses at the end of August. They have never fit well, and are uncomfortable. I have called a number of times when they are supposed to be open, and no one ever calls me back. Im sure they can be adjusted, but no one seems to care. For the prices that they charge, you would think that a little customer service would be in order???

Great doctor! Awesome sales team.... too good at pushing expensive products. It takes a strong spine to say no to their offers. Ask for the results of the eye exam, which they are legally required to give you, and buy your glasses at a cheaper location.

I ordered contacts two months ago. I have been told they will be here on X day, but alas Mario always needs another week/two days/four days at the most. I have been there three times now, to pick up contacts they said they had over a phone call or voice mail, and guess what Im told when I arrive? Oh, we just need another two days/week. This last trip I made there today was my fault. I know they are incapable of good customer service and will not ever order anything from them again. What a waste of time. Online is always the way to go.
