High turnover. My kids psychiatrist doesn’t even let us know when to reschedule. I’ve sent emails either slow response or no response. When I’ve gotten a response it’s vague and indifferent. Billing has made more then one mistake and one bill that accidentally came to use was billing the insurance for over 28k for a few months. Mind you my kid is an out patient. The wise program has been good.

Amazing staff and therapists. I got admitted here when I was 12. I was a struggling young girl and Ryther really did help me. Yeah, I had my ups and downs, like... alot of them, but now Im 16 and I have a job and have been living my best life!

The billing office is terrible. They have changed my co-pay for multiple visits; they re-billed me for visits I had already paid for, increasing the co-pay by $38. Their billing system and invoices are unnecessarily complicated. The therapist was not supportive of the relationship between my child and myself, as well as the family we had created. In fact, the therapist, in cunning collaboration with my childs father, assisted in the plot to have my child whisked away to the other side of the state. They planned to do this while I was out of town, so that I would come home and she would be gone. The therapist coached my child to say terrible things about me and our family. Now my child believes she is better off living a lie with a parent who has chosen not to be part of her life for 7 years. I would not recommend Ryther to anyone. The psychiatrist was terrible, as well. All in all a bad experience all the way around.

Great Place helped me when I was a kid. Very therapeutic staff and a close knit community. Probably the best pre adolescent mental health facility in Seattle.

My name is Louanne. I was admitted to Ryther Child Center on August 11, 1981. My experience as a resident at age 11 was beyond horrendous. I was singled out by staff and picked on by the other kids. I was humiliated and pushed away when all I wanted was to be loved by someone. A former foster child bounced in and out of many homes was more then any child should endure. I would probably not recommend this placement only because of my own experiences and all I went through. My advice to a parent/caregiver is that you stay in regular contact with any child you entrust to an institution, no matter what type of institution it is. In cases of medical or mental health treatment, you don’t want to invade your child’s privacy. But you should make sure your child is ok, feels safe and comfortable, and isn’t experiencing trauma.  Hope this helps!

Ryther does deeply meaningful work here in our community and much of the time, is the only advocate for children and families navigating the difficult foster care process. They are local heroes!
