I saw Dr. Ilene Newman at the San Jose Medical Group at N. Jackson Ave in San Jose. I had questions about birth control and she told me my best option was Mirena IUD. She told me no patient of hers had any complications and that insertion was easy and painless.I was not offered a local numbing agent or any serious pain meds. I think they may have given me some motrin which does nothing when the pain is really bad.The insertion was some of the worst pain Ive had in my life and Ive been through multiple back surgeries. I kept telling her it hurt, but she kept going. I told her I couldnt do it and she said she was going to keep going and to just hang on. That was so traumatizing. Talk about consent. she finished and I felt like I was going to vomit and I was shaking. It was so bad, a friend had to pick me up at the clinic because I couldnt drive. The pain was so bad I couldnt work the next day or day after. I started sweating nonstop and the pain was unbearable even after a day. I went to the SJ Med Group clinic on Lincoln to get it removed where they informed me that the insertion had caused an infection.I called her and told her what happened. She said that it was surprising, but that a teenager had passed out from the pain just a week before my visit... so she lied about it being no problem. A friend of mine said its regular practice to use heavy duty pain killers and/or a local numbing agent during this procedure. I was given neither.Youd think you trust a doc, especially a female obgyn, but she traumatized me to the point where I rarely go to a doctor. This was 6 or 7 years ago and I still vividly remember it.
