GREAT COOL Doctor:Too Much Milk Intake can cause Severe Anemia!:My son Nelson was well , gaining weight , and playful, seems very normal to me.I brought him to see Dr. Truong for 2 y.o well child check up 2 months ago. Before seeing Dr Truong, the medical assistant asked many questions about nutrition: what he eats, what he drinks, how much, how many times per day...When walked in the exam room, Dr Truong looked at my son, did the routine exam and gave him shots. She then again asked many more questions about his nutrition. When I told her that my son drinks around 40-45 oz of whole milk, and 2 bottles of orange juice per day, for more than 6 months, and he did not eat solid food. She then told me firmly that I should cut the milk amount to 20 oz per day, cut the orange juice to the minimum, drinks much more water instead, and try to feed him more nutritious solid food. She explained to me that drinking too much milk inhibit his appetite, and also can cause Iron deficiency anemia...ect...She ordered some blood test the same day, and made appointment for follow up the following week. But the next day, her receptionist called me saying that Dr Truong wanted to see us immediately: my son had moderate to severe Iron deficiency anemia with hematocrit went down to 26. She then reassured me, explained to me in details about my son condition, instructed me carefully about the importance of the right and healthy nutrition..., and give prescription of Iron. With only simple Iron drops daily, and the right nutrition, after only one month, my sons anemia is completely resolved, but he had to continue Iron drops for total 6 months. From this incidence, I learned a lot from her, how logic and simple way to feed and raise a child. And how serious it can happen to our children if we go on the wrong path.I dont have enough words to say how grateful Im for her kind help, her precious experience, dedication to the job so well done.Amanda
