Purchased a day pass to give it a try as I live down the street. Gym has lots of equipment but holy hell $20 for a day pass?! A little rediculous but okay...The gym itself is a bit crowded and dungeon like with low light. There is no air conditioning and little ventilation so it was hot which made it harder to work out in my opinion.I understand the draw of this place for body builders but if you want a nice gym with everything you need I prefer North Park Fitness and South Park Fitness.

This is a legit, no bs gym. A neighborhood spot with a full offering of equipment, machines, free weights, and facilities expressing a no frills / old school kind of vibe. Also, membership prices cannot be beat - an excellent value on top of an already great experience.

I like this place , all you need is there.I just dont like the business hours, on the weekends I work and cant make it to 0130pm would be great if the hours change.. until then I go now somewhere else.60$ montly / no contract is to much.Parking is a big problem, matter what time a day you come.. allways a challenge.

This place is awesome! I went for 2 years and the staff is super friendly and the equipment is great. My fav part of the gym was that there was enough equipment for everyone and you’d hardly have to wait during peak times.

Honestly I feel safe working out here, with the regulations of wiping down each machine with a strong cleaning solution, the space between gym goers, and none judgment environment im glad to be a part of this gym.

The gym is clean and with different types of equipment used for workouts. This gym made me feel confident with myself again because they are just doing their work to train newbies but they will give you tips on how to gain confidence. So if you plan to go here, I guarantee you that you will be their satisfied clients.

Visiting San Diego on a work trip so I contacted the gym beforehand to make sure it was ok to show up and pay a short term membership. Frank, the owner, came straight back and gave me a breakdown. Popped in to train and met Frank who is friendly, knowledgeable and and all round nice bloke. The gym is well stocked with good quality equipment and has a nice vibe to it. Highly recommended.

Great value for your money, especially if youre looking to get strong! they have 6 squat racks of 4 different types, including two outside. Only one bench, but you can set up the power racks out back to work as a bench as well. There are bike racks out front in full view of windows if biking there is a good warm up for you. You can also pick up prepped meals, protein and other supplements, or get an enormous smoothie. Im really glad I found this place! People are mostly there to focus and get their work out in, its seldom crowded, and its not a see-and-be-seen type place. Training is reasonably priced and they consider what you are actually looking for instead of assuming youre there to get skinny.

Its a no nonsense gym, get in get it done and get out. Super friendly owner, hell help out any way he can! One of the few local businesses left in North Park and should be supported.

I do my training before I go into work. Its practically a ghost town Monday through Thursday. Friday I feel like a celebrity who rented the joint all for myself. The equipment is spot on along with the atmosphere. Frank who owns the facility including those who work there are very friendly & supportive. The absolute best thing I love about this place is no more waiting for the guy/girl doing whatever between Facebook. People just hanging out trying to be cute, tough, creepy, or whatever. Its individuals with one mission in mind. Its walk in crush it and get the hell out. THE END

Really nice old school gym. Tons of random equipment. Dumbbells up to 150. Casual local gym vibe. I go there at 5am, so I dont know if its crowded later in the day, but there is plenty of room at 5am. Only one benchpress bench is odd, but they have everything else covered. Parking is on the street only, so not much. I walk so its fine.

Old school gym, friendly and welcoming staff, in an environment suited to hooking in and training, not for prancing about to be seen. A lost commodity that is like an old friend. The way gyms should be, Love it!

Caveat EmptorMy experience:I worked out at Last Real Gym for 5 months, and in the beginning, it was pretty OK. They market themselves as a neighborhood gym, with a family feel. In fact, when I first joined, the front desk guy, Tyler, made a point to learn my name, to make friendly conversation, and say hello every time I came in. So, even though the place felt dark, a bit grungy, and was filled with old, rusty equipment, it still had some charm...kinda.Tyler suddenly left in May though, and the front desk duties fell back to Frank, who apparently is the owner. Frank, for all his forced, fake cheer, never once bothered to learn, or greet me by name.My last day at Last Real Gym started innocently enough (I thought). Mid workout (Back and Biceps bruh), I realized that (again) there were no cable handles to be found.Me: Hey Frank, do you think we could get some more of those plastic cable handles?Frank: (death glares) I have 8 of those handles in the gym. You have to look around.Me: Oh, I definitely looked around. I never seem to be able to find them. Just thought we could get some more?Frank: (explodes) You’re a REAL complainer! You complain and you dig. You’ve always got digs! You dig and you dig. (Storms off)Me: (Flabbergasted)Frank: (returns from walking the perimeter of the entire gym with 3-4 handles, holds them out...drops them on the floor in front of me) Here! You know, you’re not in the military anymore! You’ve gotta be NICE to people.Me: (never in military) Um, WHAT? What’s your problem man?Frank: Yeah, well you prob would have been one of those ASSHOLE Sergeants. You know, if you don’t like it here, you can go.Me: (Flabbergasted 2.0) Frank, I don’t know what’s happening here, but I’ve talked to you THREE times total. Once to let you know the paper towel dispenser was broken. Once because I couldn’t find the ONE ab wheel in this place. And today, when I asked about getting some $5 cable handles.Frank: You’ve just got to stop complaining and work HARDER. Just F*ing train.Me: ...Frank: (Mumble ranting as he walks away)[Indistinct] I’m a New Yorker....So...to summarize, if you LIKE poorly maintained, beat up equipment, and unhinged, volatile gym owners, then Last Real gym is for you...all for the PREMIUM price of $60/mo.(But FR, there are half a dozen nicer gyms in the area for less money. I know because I just joined one.)
