I have been a patient of Dr First for almost 25 years and have so much faith in his care of me. Sharon, his medical assistant is awesome and always on top of things. Dr. First never makes you wait in the waiting room. First he takes you into his office and asks you the reason for your visit, any problems going on with you and addresses any concerns you might have. Secondly he takes you into the exam room and gives you a thorough examination. I always feel like he has addressed all my concerns and really cares about his patients. I have no idea what I will do once he retires!

Good doctor with decent nurse practitioners but dont expect any sort of follow through or accountability.I recommend you stay away from this office. I will not waste my time listing the reasons. If you want to find out for yourself...go for it.

Consistently the worst Drs office ever. Put on hold for over 10 minutes timed, left messages for lab results, does not return phone calls. now 1 week no reply from the office as to needed extensive lab results. Too many other Drs out there with better compassion and results

I think that everyone has a valid point with the phone system and the follow up consistency with this office. I can see and understand that this has reflected badly overall on the office, and this is very unfortunate. This has been a problem for over the past few years.Today was the first time that I have phoned in for a very long time and the phone system has been improved as of 10/22/2018 according to the message. As far as the staff goes, Dr. First is the best in his field as I have seen him since the late 1990s and he has done everything in his power and more to give me the best care and treatment that the law allows. I would suggest that people not hold this as a direct reflection on the Medical care that you will receive from Dr. First, but just like everyone has noted and which everyone has made it clear, that the Phone System has failed us, and Dr. First and the staff. I have tolerated the phone system for a few years now because the Care is beyond exceptional to say the least.I will continue to see him for as long as I can until he retires. He is an A++ Dr. and Human Being.

Ive been coming to Dr. First for 2 years. In that time I have never received a return call. And if I miss a call and return it, its NEVER answered, and they NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER call you back. That is really frustrating for me because they have sworn that they called back and I asked when then called my cell company and asked if I received any incoming calls that day. My cell company stated they never called but, they lied and said they did. That is the reason Im giving them a low score. Dr. First is great, I dont have a problem with him, I have a problem with the staff. I dont want them fired, I want them to put themselves in the patients place. Then they will understand, maybe. The office staff needs a lot of help, and if they have an office manger please dont tell anyone because they are doing a TERRIBLE job.

Dr First is an excellent physician. He is thorough, gives you his undivided attention and is extremely patient in explaining options. I do have to agree that the office staff, while kind and helpful when youre there for an appointment, are hopelessly disorganized. Dr First and his partner, Dr Ritchkin are outstanding medical professionals like doctors were 20 years ago.

I went in a couple months ago and saw the nurse practitioner for a yearly PE and bloodwork. I never received my results on my bloodwork. I needed a copy of my bloodwork and that was a pain. Called to have a copy ready so I could pick them up. The nurse practitioner’s assistant didn’t double check in the medical record before picking up the bloodwork results. Got to the office and another administrative assistant couldn’t find the results in my medical records and had to search for them in the computer. Then proceeded to tell me I couldn’t get a copy. I never did receive a call. They are very incompetent and I don’t trust the nurse practitioner and administrative assistants.

My husband and I were given FIRST MD, Brian P through our Sharp Health Plan. Every time I try to call and schedule an appointment I get an automated voicemail asking to call back during business hours. I AM calling during business hours! I called at 4:40pm on a Wednesday (they supposedly close at 5) and I called at 11:50 the next day and got the same damn thing. They say they break for lunch from 12pm-2pm. With a 2 hour lunch break I dont understand why they can answer the phone during designated hours. There is no voicemail option either. Very frustrating.

I have been a patient of Brian First for many years. I have always thought he was great. the problem is that in April I had a Stroke , after a month in the hospital my follow up appt. was not made with the doctor but the Nurse Practitioner thats the first problem) I feel I should have been seen by the doctor for something that was so serious, It wasnt a stubbed toe. Some DMV paper work was given to Kelly over a month ago and was never filled out, now my license is suspended due to non compliance. Today I saw her and she was supposed to have the paperwork for me and still not filled out. She said she would have it by the afternoon. Nope! we asked if we could get it tomorrow and she said it still would not be done. This is unacceptable. She has had over a month to review the records, of which really wasnt needed to fill out the forms requested. it will take 2 to 3 weeks for DMV to review once they do get the forms, when they could have already had the forms and everything would be done. This is causing me even more stress. I want to see my doctor not the nurse.

I was a patient of record who was in between insurances due a job change, and tried to make an appt to refill blood pressure meds. I explained this to the receptionist and also told her id be happy to pay cash for the visit..she curtly told me that they didnt take patients with no insurance, no cash pay. When I asked what I should do about my bp meds, that I was almost out..she said call back when you get insurance, good bye. Luckily, I was able to find a medical group that would take my cash pay, my meds were filled, I now have insurance and am NOT calling Dr firsts office back ever again. One star is too way too many for them.

Although the Dr. Brian First is an excellent Primary physician and the Nurse Practitioners, Shirley Fett and Nancy Shanzlin are also excellent, the administrative assistants are Terrible. First, you can never talk to anyone in this office, you can only leave messages and they are not good about returning calls. When they do finally return calls, they lie and say a message was left the previous day. Second, I have trying to obtain a referral for now going on 4 weeks (seems absurd that it can take longer than 1 week to obtain a referral). Because my fathers insurance requires a referral to see an Audiologist even though he already wears hearing aids (also absurd). Why is it that there are so many administrative people who are incompetent?? I left another message and the Business Manager returned the call. I admit my message was frustrated, but her return call was not only Not helpful, she was extremely rude and hung up - thus my reason for this blog.
