Love this place. All my family goes there. I think negative reviews are related to previous team or ownership. Right now everyone doing amazing job. Dr Kim is great and never pushed me to do any extra services.

Ive never been a huge fan of going to the dentist (shocker...), but this office has certainly changed my mind. Ive been twice so far, and both times the staff were all personable, friendly and professional, and the service I received was quick and better than expected. The two folks at the front desk also helped with some insurance issues since I was unable to get my dental insurance ID, which made the process much better than anticipated. My hygienist (Trevor Ryan) was phenomenal, as was my dentist (David Kim)--both walked me through everything that needed to be done and performed excellent care without any discomfort (I wont lie, numbing gel and shots have always been THE WORST part, but Trevor made sure I was comfortable the whole time and experienced no pain. Two thumbs way up! So happy I found this place.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience here. Although I heard a lot of not so good news, Dr. Kim and his assistant made me feel comfortable and did a great job resolving the issues I had. Dr. Kim made sure to explain everything in detail so I knew exactly what was going on with my teeth. Excited to come back.

My experience here was really unpleasant, but Im giving three stars because I think that the average patient wouldnt have the same issues. I have pretty bad white coat syndrome that is especially severe in a dental context and thus hadnt been to the dentist in years. I informed the staff of this up front because I thought it would be helpful. I seriously wish I had not, because a huge deal was made of it and Ive now been in twice and received 0 services. I was questioned extensively about my anxiety by the hygienist (overly invasive questions like is the anxiety due to a specific incident?), which made me far more nervous than I would have been. Because of this, my blood pressure was then too high (from anxiety) for them to be able to even examine me (a totally fair policy and understandable). I was quoted for services and then made an appointment to receive them (and a cleaning). I was also told someone would give me a call about dealing with the blood pressure/anxiety issue so it wouldnt be an issue at the next appointment. No one ever did, but I explained the issue to my general practitioner, who opted to give me medication for the blood pressure leading up to the appointment so it wouldnt be an issue. At this appointment, after an extended wait) the dentist examined me and, again, questioned me in detail about my anxiety and blood pressure (which wasnt even checked at this appointment- if youre going to have a policy, it needs to be consistent!). At one point while I was being questioned, I said this is extremely personal but was still pressed. He was also extremely dismissive of my questions and actually said I should have consulted him before purchasing my electric toothbrush- this is after coming to this office TWICE. I was given a Xanax prescription I didnt ask for (they initiated the topic) and a billing person (very personable and polite) went over the services I was to receive at my next appointment. There was one service the dentist hadnt included that I had explicitly asked about and which was a priority, and the billing person was surprised I hadnt received the cleaning I was supposed to and hurriedly added it to the next appointments services. I went home and canceled the appointment. It seemed like continuing to deal with this office was going to be an exasperating and time-consuming hassle, which honestly is a bummer because the office seemed clean and most of the staff was pleasant.

RUN FROM THIS PLACE! I was told I had 10 cavities. Started to get them filled until I realized I was being over charged. I got a second opinion and I found out I had zero cavities and was getting scammed! On top of that I was overcharged by nearly $400. The front desk receptionist was horrible about it. She actually told me I knew nothing about insurance and there was no mistake. My insurance company had to call to get them to reimburse me almost 400 dollars of over charge fees. RUN from this place!!!

I just moved to San Diego and knew I needed a dentist sooner rather than later, so after reading a bunch of reviews on practices near my new home I chose East Village Dental Group - and Im so glad I did!1) Dr. Kim is hilarious.2) The office is staffed by cool and interesting people.3) Theyre very communicative, so you know exactly what your visit looks like.4) My teeth feel squeaky clean.10/10 recommend if youre looking for an all-around awesome dentist.

This is definitely a top notch dental office. Their equipment is state of the art and the facility itself was spotless which is not that common from my previous experiences. I made my appointment by phone and when I came in, the wait was non-existent.Dr.Estrada and Dr.Marsh were great but Roxanne really made the biggest impact on my visit!I usually avoid the dentist if possible as do most but I wouldnt mind coming back to this office whenever necessary!

At first, I was skeptical when my insurance company assigned me to this place (my last dentist was in Coronado ... sure judge me now) but I was blown away by the care Dr. David Kim provided me. He is quite possible the most exceptional dentist I have ever met. Not only is he a master of the ART of dentistry, he takes extreme pride in doing an excellent job. I had a root canal, a crown and a filling and while I was there for a while, I can tell you that as long as Dr. Kim is at this office I will be returning.

Lets start with my teeth are not the best, never have been, and I am not exactly a fan of going to the dentist. Could I floss more? Sure...but at least at Dr. Harris and the staff dont judge me.How well do I know this dentist? Ive had one cavity, one crown :-/ and one cleaning. Some details about this dentist office:- High speed equipment. I was shocked at how far dentistry tech has come. We moved down from Berkeley and apparently my dentist there hadnt stepped out of 1994. The good news about this new tech is that its faster and less painful. The crown was super fast, like, they made it there at the office. So that was cool.- Super nice. Everyone is nice here and thats helpful because I dont really want to be there.- Options. Dr. Harris and the staff are pretty good about giving you options. They explain what they want to do, show you the exact cost, then give you reasons why you should or should not get it done now. I need another crown on a cracked tooth and they were not happy about it, but they let me push the appointment out to two months from now because Im busy and it doesnt hurt.- Text reminder of appointment times. This is just obviously nice.- Parking is not too bad. I have always ended up with street parking about a block away. The neighborhood is not the best, but not too bad.As someone who does not like the dentist, I can say this is the first time I have actually not minded going so that is a big deal. Thanks! Hopefully I wont see you too soon.

I had a new patient cleaning and exam, in and out within an hour. I scheduled online and got it all set up within a day. All the staff was great and personable. It was a very clean office with a lot of newer tech Ive never seen. Dr Gibbons had a happy and up beat attitude that really helped with my dental anxiety. They were very patient with my insurance difficulties. They explained the process clearly and gave me great advice to improve my habits. Thanks to everyone!

I have had nothing but a great experience at this dental office. After years of drug abuse, my teeth have turned out to have quite a bit of problems. My dentist & his assistants there have always shown me much kindness & are so helpful. The dentist is always upfront with everything & theyve been working on my teeth for the last year. I love this dental office!

I cant thank the team at East Village Dental Group enough for the way they treated me and their care of my dental needs. I was assaulted on the street and had a chipped tooth from the incident. Dr. Gibbons was able to get me in for an appointment the very next day and corrected the damage done by the attack. His staff was very welcoming and did their best to make me feel comfortable. They helped give me some peace after a horrible incident and I cant thank them enough for what they did for me.

The visit ok except for the pressure extra services. They really dropped the ball after the consultation. I’m in pain as anyone who has had a terrible toothache knows it makes it hard to think straight. The dental office had sent my prescription to my nearest target. Or so I thought. No, she forgot to send it. Lucky for me Target pharmacy was closed. And had to wait till the next day. But there’s more but I’ll just leave it at that. I figure everyone makes mistakes, so whatever. I know I won’t be going back.

WORST. DENTIST. EVER.I scheduled an exam + cleaning in preparation for the holidays. After 2 hours of sitting I received an exam, no cleaning, and no apologies. This was a long overdue appointment, and yet the dentist tried to persuade me to skip my cleaning, because he was busy. Even though I had an appointment booked and had already been sitting for over an hour and a half.I erased the longer explanation of my horrible visit because the specific details dont really matter. But here are the take aways:+ The staff is very young and inexperienced.+ The dentist is rude, dismissive, and has no respect for his patients time.+ The office over-books patients and treatments which makes appointment times ridiculously long.+ The staff does not properly explain the benefits / downfalls of the different treatment choices. They basically pointed to a poster of the crown options and told me to choose one.+ The staff does not communicate delays or procedure processes, instead they leave the patients sitting around for hours with no explanation or time frame. While the receptionist was very kind and tried to help as I was clearly upset, it did little to make up for the dentists rude attitude and the horrible management of his practice.A dental exam + cleaning should be a very straight-forward appointment. It should not take over 2 hours just to start a cleaning.Avoid the bad attitude, poor services, and improper scheduling found here. You can literally book anywhere else and you will receive a better exam + cleaning.

Avoid this place at all costs. I went in for a routine cleaning and they billed me for x-rays (that I didnt ask for), double-charged me for fluoride that I already paid for, and tried to charge me over $100 for oral hygiene advice. The only thing the dentist said to me was that my teeth were basically perfect and I did all the work for him. How can you charge $100 for that? Extremely unprofessional service, and theyll try to bill you for everything they can think of.

This zero start rating is for DR. Gibbons. We’ve all been to the dentist we know how a SEASONED dentist treats their patients. If you want an APPROPRIATE dental appointment, see a dentist with experience. I went here for location convenience while in pain. Like the woman at the front desk said, she wasn’t back there with us to know what happened, but Dr. GIBBONS was. Leave it to a under-experienced dentist to take my frustration of waiting for my “emergency appointment” to a facetious level. No professionalism in the “awww” after BANGING on my teeth two separate times after I told him it did not hurt. Stating that he sees inflammation and redness then SCRATCHING [MY IRRITATED GUMS???] REPEATEDLY FOR NO REASON AFTER I TOLD HIM THAT IT IS VEY PAINFUL TO DO THAT. I understand scraping the teeth, scraping around the teeth, but to scratch the identified irritated gum not even near my teeth with your “sharp tool”; oh because I wasn’t happy to see you? After having a tv 24 inches from my face to distract me from the hour and 10 minutes of time it had been since I arrived, just to tell me, “well I can do a rinse”. PLEASE DONT TOUCH ME AGAIN I CAN RINSE MY OWN MOUTH THANKS FOR NOTHING. First of all the “emergency appointment” should be a “walk in and wait” not scheduled for a designated time. What’s the difference if the schedule is full I would have arrived in the morning not spent my afternoon in that office. In the end I got up out of the chair and left because Dr. Gibbons left me alone in the room, again, after saying he would do a rinse. The woman, who was very nice, at the front said he was heading back but he was actually sitting at the front typing on the computer.

AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY THOUSANDS MORE THAN YOU HAVE TO! I have had two very expensive procedures, wisdom teeth removal and crown, with East Village Dental and they put me through a financial NIGHTMARE both times! I shouldve learned my lesson after my first experience, but because they never refunded me $600 that my insurance paid and instead kept it as credit, my hands were tied. I HAD to go back because they gave me a run around for 8 MONTHS and never sent me the check for the $600 on my account balance that they said all along they would do. Nightmare 1: I called and emailed numerous times and was told that the manager would process the refund that I received through insurance for my wisdom teeth. She said it would take up to 3 weeks to arrive in the mail. 3 weeks later I follow up, no answers, and after speaking with the manager multiple times with the same go around that its coming and itll take 3 weeks I never got my refund. I tried for 8 MONTHS and never got that refund. I finally decided to just go in to this overcharging scam of a dental office to use the $600 that was of course still just sitting on my account. I cannot emphasize how frustrating it was to know that $600 that was rightfully mine was withheld by this greedy company until I agreed to go back in for another over priced procedure. My most recent experience involves getting a temporary crown. Not once did they go over the crown options with me (as they are supposed to). I have since learned, due to researching on my own and through my insurance, that there are many crown options: porcelain, noble metal, base metal, ceramic and different combos of those types. All of these types cost around $200-$400 with insurance. I was never informed of these options by the dentist, front desk staff.. nothing. Instead, they AUTOMATICALLY CHARGED ME for a porcelain/GOLD crown that of course isnt covered by insurance!!!!!!!!!!! I am a 4th grade teacher and a sensible, frugal person. I WOULD HAVE NEVER AGREED TO AN OUT-OF-POCKET GOLD CROWN!Overall, East Village Dental Group might make you feel safe and comfortable in their clean, happy office but it is a front for an awful group that will deceive you, overcharge you, and never refund you. They dont do their job of telling you your options, they make decisions for you that arent covered by insurance, and then they withhold your money once your insurance claim comes in.If you, like me, are not able to throw thousands of dollars around, or are ok with letting your dentist keep $600 that is yours - PICK A DIFFERENT DENTAL GROUP!
