Very unprofessional company to work with if you are contracted by them. They set unreasonable expectations that cost money and they feel they should not pay for the additional costs. My company will never work them in the future ever.

We moved my mother into Sunrise of La Jolla after leaving a similar style facility the St Louis area in April. The entire experience has been an absolute joy! The staff, without exception, have been incredibly kind and highly skilled. The other residents have been welcoming and friendly. For those looking at these types of facilities, you probably know that the administrative process can be extensive. Sunrise of La Jolla and their management staff have a well defined process and helped facilitate every contact along the way. I can not say enough positive things about how easy they made a potentially difficult move!

Care and staff is great but pricing is manipulative and decietful. Promised a discounted rate that seemingly was never honored and then quickly told that all expenses are going up within the month. If you do decided to use this place make sure you get any and all pricing in written and signed documents because they will raise the price on you.

Sunrise was wonderful to and for my mother. My mother was placed at Sunrise after she was placed on Hospice - and given less than 6 months to live. When she first arrived at Sunrise, she could barely swallow, and was struggling to do walk and communicate. ... 14 months passed, and my mother improved! She looked forward to the wonderful meals prepared by chef Jonathan, and although she is not one to engage in the many planned activities, she did seem to benefit from the 24/7 interaction with others. The care-giving staff on her floor were the epitome of kindness and nurturing. Unfortunately, the familys financial resources required that we move mother to a board and care home. Shes doing OK, but we do miss the team and environment at Sunrise.

Sunrise does not care about their residents at all. My mother was at Sunrise for 7 months in 2016/17. During this period she was severely over-drugged (to the point she couldnt even feed herself), she permanently lost her ability to walk because the caregivers had no time to help her with her PT, she experienced 20-40-minute wait times when she pressed her call button EVERY DAY, she developed a bed sore, and was so unclean when she was transferred out of there that the new home felt the need to report it to my family. Since then, I have talked to multiple people who had our same experience, and I see other reviews that state similar problems. After only a few weeks it was clear that the caregivers were sweet but way overworked, and my mother wasnt getting the proper care. Her recliner smelled like urine because she would have to wait so long to be helped to the bathroom and often had an accident while waiting. She was incredibly stressed because she was in fear all the time that no one was there to take care of her. She loved her caregivers, but the administration was harsh and unkind and made her afraid of retaliation if she complained.I spent dozens and dozens of hours trying to communicate with Sunrise administration to get them to perform the basic care we were promised. I was given platitudes and lies every conversation and nothing changed. I worked my way up the corporate chain to Todd Smith, Director of Operations, and then to Lisa Kennedy, the Vice President of Operations simply to get them to make sure my mother was getting basic care like being helped to the bathroom, being moved periodically to prevent bed sores, being properly transferred from her chair to her wheelchair. They said all the right things, but nothing ever changed for my mother. In fact, they tried to charge us more money while they were causing my mothers decline!Furthermore, after bringing up these serious complaints, the administration at this location started to treat my family with rudeness and started trying to block us from getting the information about her care. All of a sudden we had to jump through hoops to get her medication list or her call wait time logs. I can only conclude that they were trying to block us from collecting evidence of their mistakes. It was a complete nightmare. They didnt want to hear our complaints because they werent going to do anything about it.No one, especially the elderly who are so fragile, should EVER be treated the way Sunrise treated our family. I never write reviews, but the situation at Sunrise is unconscionable and must be stopped! NEVER NEVER consider putting someone you love at Sunrise.

Beware! Bedsores and Ripoffs! This is a bad place. My mom moved there in July, walking with a walker and by the following March, she was completely immobile and had a BEDSORE! They had her on tons of dangerous meds, so that she was completely out of it mentally and could not hold even a simple conversation. Unacceptable for the most expensive assisted living in La Jolla!!! They do not keep the rooms clean. The staff is overworked and there are only 2 caregivers at night to take care of 2 floors of residents. The wait times - my mom would have to wait 30-50 minutes to get help for the restroom. On her very first night, they did not come for over 30 minutes after she pressed her call button (which constantly broke and had to be repaired and/or changed) - devasting for my mom, first time in a new place after 45 years in her old home - she had to call 9-1-1 because she was so scared. Later we found out, several residents call 9-1-1 or yell and yell at night because Sunrise is so understaffed and cannot take care of the residents in time. The administration lies and lies and plays dumb (or are super dumb?) - they just keep asking for more money every other month, even after they admit they are not doing their jobs! My mom was afraid of the administrators - they constantly lied and were rude to my mom and my family. At the beginning, they tell about all of the wonderful things they do - ALL LIES. They show you the bath with the music and candles but it is like pulling teeth to ever get one arranged!!!The only good thing about this place were the caregivers - they are dedicated and very caring - but they are so overworked and understaffed, they cannot possibly do their jobs adequately- unfair to them and to the residents. We moved my mom to a wonderful, new place - she is regaining her mobility, but may never walk again because of the damage Sunrise did. She is off all of the heavy meds and is happy conversing in all kinds of topics and has her complete memory back, thank God! Both her doctor and her P/T were shocked at what a different person she is now.Sunrise of La Jolla damaged my mom permanently and caused her and our family so much pain and distress and was completely unnecessary. We researched and thought we were making the best decision but made a terrible choice - since we left, we have met many people who had similar problems and issues with Sunrise.DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!!!

I was told private pay only but no one could give even one referral to other care centers. They do not appear to care for the population that serve!
