One does not go to a rehab facility expecting to write a glowing review of the experience. I spent the last week after knee replacement surgeries in the care of Torrey Pines Senior Living. From the cleaning staff to the administrative and medical staff, the physical an occupational therapy people, social work and on into the kitchens I can say I had excellent care. When someone in occupational therapy stops to pick up a dropped tissue in the hall instead of waiting for custodial to get it, it shows a sense of pride in the organization. Tasty food is welcome when you don’t feel good. Shrimp fajitas, and a braised beef dinner were especially good. Recuperation is the goal and with all these assists and good medical care, I finished my stay earlier than expected. If you need rehab/skilled nursing support, I would endorse Torrey Pines Senior Living as your choice.

Very disappointed. My father had a rare visit from staff and very short physical therapy sessions. He spent day after day in bed with no visits to the garden or any other areas. No exercise beyond minimal therapy. If you need assistance to the bathroom - good luck. His shower was cold. We complained about the inedible food several times and little to nothing was done. It was awful food served in a styrofoam container with plastic knife and fork. The hallways had stained and dirty looking carpet. Fake wood floors were peeling. If you need rehab I wouldn’t go there.

My mother, has been a patient at Brookdale 3 times over that last 3 months. The entire team is very knowledgeable, professional and compassionate. They keep the family up-to-date on progress. Whenever I call the nursing station there is always a nurse to assist. My mom has said that the facility is beautiful, very clean and the food is excellent. We highly recommend Brookdale Carmel Valley.

2nd time we have used Brookdale as a rehab/skilled nursing for our 96 year old dad. 1st time for hip surgery recovery, this time for stroke recovery. Always caring, and staff is great! Dr. O was incredibly communicative and on top of things. They make sure he gets to face time with us both every day - critical for him amid this virus. Clean facility, nice patio areas, glad we found them!

My mother stayed here (skilled nursing/rehab section) for 2.5 weeks. The admitting process was very easy, the facility was very clean, they really care about patient safety and cleanliness. The activities director, the nurses & physical/occupational/speech therapists were outstanding. Whenever I called the nursing station someone always picked up and I was easily and quickly provided updates or I could ask for assistance. It was great they allow the residents to use the assisted living facility as well (hair salon, activities, etc.). The only reason I didnt give 5 stars was several times my mom hit the call button it took 20 to 30 minutes for someone to come. I would recommend this facility to friends/family.

Is there a way to give zero stars?! Do NOT send a loved one there. My mom had many issues in regards to her care. She complained about pain, that went untreated and developed into bed sores, necrosis, etc. She was called obese and that her weight loss was good for her. Although some of the staff was nice to her, most were inattentive and complained when asked to do something. It would sometimes take OVER WEEK to get a shower. She is at a new facility and we have been told that her necrosis would have to continued to spread if not treated, they never even looked into it, and gave her ice packs to help. We will be filing a complaint.

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff at Brookdale Carmel Valley during the last 2+ years of Moms life. Their focus was to ensure Moms safety, despite the often frustrating challenges associated with aging and memory loss. I couldnt have been more impressed with the support of the entire staff as we all had to deal with the challenges of COVID-19. Thank you!!

My Mom took a fall, fractured her hip, and has been rehabilitating from hip surgery at Brookdale Carmel Valley. I have never written a review before, but I am inspired to do so now. Prior to this unfortunate accident, my Father passed away suddenly and my Mom was without him for the first time in 72 years. This led to loss of appetite, extreme weight loss, depression, the onset of dementia and now this. Following the surgery, I was extremely concerned for her survival. Fortunately, however, this incident led us to this rehabilitation facility. My Mom receives constant personal care, encouragement through therapy and nourishing diet. Just this morning, I received a call from Rachel Arnold, Occupational Therapist, who provided me with a most thorough and up to date status of my Mom’s progress. During the Co-vid shutdown, I have not been able to make personal visits, which has been very stressful on both of us. The staff empathizes and encourages various other types of visits such as facetime, window visits and long phone conversations. Just yesterday, I was on the phone with my Mom for 5-1/2 hrs. During this time, I could hear in the background staff members saying hello as they passed by and asking if she needed anything. A lot of laughing. She enjoyed watching a James Bond movie and enjoying a cookie and juice, with constant acknowledgement around her. I am relieved and feel hopeful that my Mom’s future is bright. Thank you to the staff of Brookdale Carmel Valley. You are all Angels. The Judge Family

A joke of a place. I will start by saying this review is not from the direct staff that worked with my mother but everyone above them. Once we were allowed inside for visits it was clear they were severely understaffed. If my mother hit the call button it would take over 20 minutes sometimes for someone to come in. Unacceptable. The CNAs would come in complaining how much they were over worked which led to the long wait times for my mother. My mother left there with necrosis, that she had for weeks there left untreated. My mom is now at another facility that stated if she stayed there any longer that it would have spread and hindered her mobility even more. The lack of care they put into their patients, especially when it comes to personal hygiene is disgusting and unacceptable. Do yourself, and your family and favor by never choosing this place to care for a loved one.

I was in Brookdale Carmel Valley Assisted Living for two months, from the end of January this year to the end of March, following a hospital and skilled nursing stay for a femur fracture and surgery. In retrospect, it was an excellent choice for me. In some ways, the facility is five star. It is a very attractive facility. The caregivers are OUTSTANDING, extremely caring, responsive, and patient, and the staff in administration likewise. The entertainment is also excellent, with outside talent brought in just about daily. the only negatives relate to dining. The meal service, except for a couple of servers, was disorganized and slow The menu could also be improved to include options such as almond milk for those who are lactose intolerant. It also could contain more of the healthy entrees and eliminate such things as fried chicken which is offered daily, Although the menu seemed to say you could also order chicken a healthier way, broiled, roasted, or baked chicken could very seldom be substituted. On the other hand, most of the entrees that I had tasted good to excellent.

They provide great entertainment almost every day for the residents and the food is excellent. It is a warm and inviting place. My mother had a stroke and is in their care now. The skilled nursing seems to be fine, but trying to manage the business end on my mothers care from out-of-state is proving to be very frustrating. I left a voice mail a week ago and no one bothered to return my call. Today I called and left a written message--still no return call. Ive now booked a flight and will fly down next week to hopefully get some response in-person. Its a shame to have to miss even more work and pay for an unnecessary flight considering that theyre likely billing my mothers insurance several thousand dollars a week.Update: Well I did finally get to speak to a human today. I made a little progress. Overall, it sounds like the place is just understaffed. The folks Ive talked to sound very young--thats not necessarily bad, but it has its additional challenges. They just dont exude seriousness or professionalism they way a regular hospital staff does.Addl update: Still experiencing lax customer service from my end, but in their defense my brother says the nursing staff is taking great care of my mother, which is the most important function of the facility.

My husband and I came here two years ago because he needed a special lift. The facility was recommended by the Remington. He received excellent care from the nurses and caregivers. Before he passed away, he received help from Ardent Hospice; their staff was also very helpful.I have stayed on because one of my daughters is in the vicinity. For the most part, I have been pleased with my experiences. The servers and caregivers work hard. The bookkeepers and receptionists have been helpful to me. Physical Therapy is excellent. We have a large number of activities to choose from. Our computer consultant, Ron, has been extremely helpful, and has our maintenance staff.A few areas could be improved, but I would prefer to discuss these later.

Should one need skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or assisted living, Brookdale Carmel Valley excels. The staff is skilled, courteous, patient and helpful and each patient is addressed by name. The facility is clean and attractive and every effort is made to address any dietary needs. Lifelong learning is always evident with music, art, and excursions; daily activities are scheduled and there are myriad ways to be entertained and active. The physical therapists are commendable, and if one follows instructions and works hard, the physical therapists can work miracles and get a patient back to his/her home and life. This is truly a five-star facility, and my husband and I recommend it without reservation.

My grandma stayed here after surgery and multiple times no one would come when she needed to use the bathroom after she buzzed for assistance. We found out because when we happened to come in for a visit she was on the verge of tears waiting. The lights were flashing in the hall and being ignored by the staff. Several workers were sitting around ignoring them and not calling for assistance. Had we not come who knows what would happen. Would not recommend. The care is borderline neglect.

My 90+-year-old father was sent to Brookdale Carmel Valley for rehab after surgery. He was quite weak going in but ten days at Brookdale (Skilled Nursing/Rehab wing) did him a world of good. The facility is clean, comfortable and well-equipped. He transitioned from a special diet to eating and drinking as normal, and he had no complaints about the food - he said it was very good. The physical therapists and occupational therapists were amazing - patient, competent, inventive and energetic. A special shout out to thank Santosh, as well as Danny, Misha, Gabriela and all the others who helped my father gain strength and balance and feel like he has quite a few good years ahead!

My 96 year old mother recently broke her hip and spent 3 weeks in rehab there. After a few initial bumps in the road, we would the rate the experience very good overall, especially with the physical rehab folks, the Scripps liaison, speech pathologist, nurses/CNR’s, the admissions folks and the group that coordinates the integration back to my mom’s senior residence. I don’t think that the initial problems were due to a lack of attention or lack of the desire to do the job right; they were taking in a lot of people at that time and a few things got overlooked. I would highly recommend Brookdale for the excellent care they gave to my mom and their willingness and genuine effort to fix things that occasionally went awry. Also, the grounds are very beautiful - a very soothing place to recuperate.

Brookdale Carmel Valley is a huge corporation whose bottom line is money. A/L residents can be dumped, ignoring the 30 day notice in the contract. A/L residents have no say in the food they offer, which is marginal - it is acceptable, but repetitive and - marginal. Caregivers are kind, but worn thin - expect a 30-45 minute wait when call button pressed.SNF has a slightly better response time (15-30 min) to call button. Communication between doctor/nurse, PT, OT, Speech therapy transferring to the aides is pretty sketchy. The aides are very kind, but, like in A/L, there arent quite enough. They never seem to have a social worker who is able to do that job well, resulting in major errors happening and lots of finger pointing to somebody else.If your loved one is in good shape, theyll do OK here (minus lots of cash), but if they go downhill, Brookdale will have no problem kicking them to the curb and then saying oh, it was all a big misunderstanding. I guess I can write that on my moms tombstone. Thanks for that caring sendoff, Brookdale.

This place is such a joke I would never recommend this place for anyones family member. They give you a button to have a staff member and takes them up to 30 mins to get someone to come to the room to help thats ridiculous. I ask for a drink to the waiters and they send me to the front desk to get a ticket so I did and the front lady told me to go buy my own drink like wow even water and she said pointed to a double door and said we have a vending machine go buy one for one that was rude. Some of the staff ignore the patients here at times. Horrible place!!
