I never write reviews, but i felt compelled to write this one. I went here for a little while. it was horrible. this place is extremely hardcore and hard to be successful. most kids i knew ended up just running away. and everyone i went there with faked the whole program to get out and do drugs again. they don’t have a nurturing approach and i hated every moment i was there. i ended up leaving to go to another program because it was so bad, and i have now been clean for almost 4 months. i know i wouldn’t be where i am now if i hadn’t left odyssey house.

I genuinely believe some people need help in treating their addiction or dependence. However, I find that Odyssey Houses approach is concerning and that they don’t understand the dynamics of addition, dependence, pain, physical or mental health. It turns out I was misdiagnosed in primary care and here.In my childhood after being in accident that left me unconscious and killed my father I started to experience painful headaches, sleepiness, presyncope, anxiety, and nausea. For years I was dismissed in care settings as well as by my family because it was “just mental health related”. As I aged these symptoms became worse and started to effect other systems including urination and defecation issues leading to scrutiny by my peers and therapist which they decided to handle in group settings there. In my 20’s it finally came to a head when I started to pass out and developed paralysis. It turns out I have ehlers danlos syndrome and when I was in the accident it’s quite likely it screwed up my neck and caused a brain bleed. Although, there’s no way of knowing “when” because I did not receive a CT or MRI until my 20’s. 10 years after my stay here and after 15 years of indescribable pain and loneliness with my undiagnosed condition I received an occiptocervical fusion for unstable spinal joints.Occiptocervical instabilty is serious condition in which your vertebrae (atlas) compresses your most vital organ, the brainstem. It’s a miracle I’m even alive. It’s unfortunate I am physically as damaged as I am as a result of their and many others incompetence. It’s even sadder that I had to be treated for treating undertreated pain and that my pain and spinal issues are significant enough to need opioid therapy resulting in dependence (the issue they tried to prevent in the first place).

I went to this treatment facility about 12 years ago and still remember the skills I learned. It’s all about delaying your gratification.

Other rating is clearly written by an addicted child patient. Just sayin. I honestly have no personal experience... but have heard great things and think it is only fair to counter the one, extremely angry and biased teen patient review.

Absolutely horrible facility. Has NOTHING TO DO with rehabiliation of drugs/alcohol. Untrained, unprofessional staff. You arent allowed to talk to other peers WHATSOEVER unless a staff member is nearby listening or they make you do 30 minutes of chores, and the punishments only increase. If you have a pencil in your room its contraband and you get your shoes taken from you for 2 weeks. When i was in here, i had probably 15 pairs of socks stolen from me. You cant go outside even to get fresh air or you will get 2 weeks no shoes and 8 hours of chores. Do NOT send your teen to this facility and DO NOT send yourself here to help yourself get clean. If you are court ordered like i was, i wish you the best and just know i am praying for you. This facility made me feel like i was going crazy, i started having extreme aggravation problems and would contenplate suicide knowing that i had to stay their for so long. The only way to get out when court ordered is to 1. Run from facility like i did, i walked 16 miles with no shoes and got jumped on the way 2. After running away call your probation/parole officer and ask to be put in day treatment 3. If it doesnt work try it again. I ran twice from this terrible facility and im glad i did or else i would probably be dead. The only thing i can say good about this facility is the food here is amazing, because it is cooked by a man named wes. Authentic meals for lunch and dinner on friday saturday and sunday. Monday - thursday is school meals which taste terrible, even worse then school actually. Milk is often expired and they only let you drink 3 THINGS which is milk or orange juice IF YOU ARE LUCKY but they give you room tempature tap water that tastes like soap. Overall i would not reccomend coming here to anyone.
