Amazing experience! Absolutely in love! I was honored to be Camp Shane’s Nutritional Specialist last year, and am so amazed with the positive environment and caring team I got to be part of. In ten years experience I’ve never seen a director, or counselors so dedicated to see positive changes in the youth they work with. I’m excited for next year, and can’t wait to the same results in our next group of children.

Places like this are the EXACT reason I started working with children as a biological researcher and health coach. I was able to teach a few classes with the kids at the University, some cardio boxing, and help the nutritionist on staff with cooking classes. I ended loving the atmosphere so much, I brought both my teenage girls as well. It was the most fulfilling summer. I can’t wait to keep watching the amazing results of camp Shane for years to come!

My son is 12 years old and went to Camp Shane for a few weeks, several months ago. He was nervous about going but the staff there made him feel comfortable and at ease. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. He had a blast with the other kids with all the activities they did and also learned a lot!He came home so much more confident and taught me about nutrition, how to read labels on foods and how to pick nutrituous foods and what is healthy for our family. Great experience!

3 summers ago I Joined the Camp Shane Staff as the Fitness Director. I have dedicated most of my adult life training and educating kids and teens on fitness and nutrition. And to make their experience fun while they are learning fitness techniques. I have worked at many summer camps over the years so i have a good understanding of what makes a camp fun and everlasting. Camp Shane California exceeded my expectations. The camp wasnt about solely doing fun exercises to lose weight, and eating well balanced nutritional meals. The kids went on breathtaking hikes in different areas throughout the greater Los Angeles Mountain Ranges, every single sport imaginable was offered for the kids to participate in, there were plenty of opportunities to swim either in the Olympic size swimming pool at the camp are on trips to the local beaches. Horseback riding, talent shows, paintball, field trips, arts and crafts and many more activities and games are some of the fun activities that were made avail for the kids to do at Camp Shane. I still keep in close contact with many of the kids and their parents that attended the camp and they all express to me how the camp has really improved there life, they feel more confident with themselves more social with their peers and more outgoing. If you are looking for a Funtastic summer camp experience were you can meet new friends, learn fun new exercises, get some great knowledge on nutrition and health and experience all the games and activities this camp has to offer I highly recommend you give Camp Shane California a try.

This camp transformed my daughters life!! My 10 year old daughter lost almost 30 lbs in her 6 weeks at Camp Shane. She came back a totally different person in a great way! I cant recommend this camp enough. I would do it again in a heartbeat! The counselors were all fantastic and I have only great things to say about it!

I was the director of Camp Shane CA last summer and our kids lost weight! Many parents were worried that their kids would be hungry, but that was really not the case. If there is an issue, the nutrition counselor at camp will listen and make necessary changes.Kids are dealing with their weight in a camp like setting where the delicious food served takes care of the weight loss and the camaraderie and exercise makes it fun and sets up new habits that can be continued at home. This summer the camp is at Cal Lutheran which has fantastic air-conditioned facilities. The availability of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at a minimal charge reinforces the need to think about your eating behaviors in order to make lasting change. If your child wants to lose weight while in a normative and fun camp experience, send them to Camp Shane!

I went to camp Shane in 2013 when I was 12 years old. I have had almost 6 years to look back at the month I spent at the camp and I have some things I feel the need to warn people about. When going there my family requested a single room so I wouldn’t have a roommate but two weeks in I was allocated into a room with a roommate because a new boy came to the camp late and his dad was adamant that he was given a single room despite there not being one. The roommate in the room I was put into was 16. I have gone over that time quite a bit and have come to the conclusion that he molested me. I would rather not go into the details of what happened but he took video of it and showed it to some of the girls at the camp. This was by far the worst experience that I have had in my lifetime so far. A couple other experiences I would call less than enjoyable are my emails that the head of the camp was supposed to send to my parents as sending letters was not possible for various reasons, one of the male councillors was openly homophobic and smoked marajuana in his room and they were very obviously not well trained nor experienced enough to run a camp at this scale. I am remaining anonymous for obvious reasons and hope this can reach people who are thinking of sending their children to the camp.

Claims to be medically supervised. It is not! Had my child in the hot son without proper hydration. Didnt have the expertise on site to assess whether he was dehydrated. He ended up in the hospital getting fluids. The camp director was kind and responsive, but unqualfied for a camp that has a medical component due to kids being heavy or having other emotional issues. Other counselors were rude and they were understaffed, which led to my sick child being unable to recouperate in the dorms. Made him come back out in the heat because he was unable to be supervised. For this pricepoint, I expect exemplary service for the campers and parents. I would absolutely NOT recommend the California Camp. I cannot speak for the other locations.
