I have nothing but great things to say about Companion Animal Hospital. Dr Jennifer Kelley goes above and beyond when it comes to explaining a diagnosis/procedure/path of action. Her compassion is readily apparent and the assistants and front desk personnel have always been kind, helpful and patient.

Just left them not even 15 minutes ago but I just have to say how IMPRESSED I am with this office! I have a senior cat that needed a check up and blood work done, and Dr. Kelly did that and much more. They gave me lots of knowledge on how to better improve my cats health while making me feel comfortable in the whole process. Looking back at the vet clinics I use to go to cant even compare to this office. 10/10 would recommend.

We cant say enough good things about this practice. Dr. Chris and his staff have been absolutely wonderful caring for our pup. They are the perfect combination of professional, communicative, responsive and compassionate, keeping us informed every step of the way in managing our dogs cancer - with options, test results, treatment plan suggestions, answers to all our questions and everything else we need to know communicated to us quickly and completely. We feel so relieved and reassured every time we speak with Dr. Chris about our boys situation, and appreciate his professionalism and obvious compassion. The concern for the animals in their care at this practice is readily apparent and our Frylie responds to their gentle handling joyfully. They treat their clients like family. We have complete confidence in the doctors and staff here, and highly recommend them.

This place is absolutely amazing. I take my newly rescue dog to daycamp every Monday, Wednesday, and half days on Fridays. The staff is super friendly and absolutely love him and they test temperaments then put him in with the dogs that he loves to play with! On the days I take him, I’ll tell him he’s going to camp first thing in the morning and all he wants to do is eat his food and use the bathroom and get in the car and go. As soon as we pull into the parking lot, he starts to whine and wag his tail and wiggle. When he comes home at the end of the day, he is absolutely exhausted and happy. Also, if you search around, it’s the cheapest place around. He loves every single thing about this place and on the days he doesn’t go, I feel sorry for him even though I take him for nice walks! It’s well worth the money, and again, much less expensive than everywhere else. We moved recently so I took him on a couple of different days and when I called to drop him off on moving day, the staff remembered and asked about how it was going! And when I picked him up at the end of the day on moving day, they gave him a box of balls and a squeeze toy from his kennel friends and said happy moving day. They are fantastic and my dog loves it. He has a one and a half year old Anatolian shepherd with a little Akita and border collie mix. You have to go there!

Dr. Jennifer Kelly and staff are absolutely amazing! When I got my dog from a local (horrible) rescue she had a bad case of pneumonia (plus ear infections, hookworms, and an unexpected pregnancy). Dr. Kelly and team were friendly, professional, attentive, and most importantly caring. They helped nurse my baby back to health through multiple visits and a hospitalization. They’ve gone above and beyond to take care of me and my dog over the last few months, keeping clear communication every step of the way. I can’t say enough great things about Companion Animal Hospital! I recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy vet that treats you like family. Every single person there is fantastic from Linda who’s always quick to answer the phone with a pleasant greeting, to any of the techs who are more than happy to listen to all my questions and ensure I get answers, to Dr. Kelly, herself, who has personally called me to check on me and my dog between visits during difficult times. These people are amazing!! Best vet, hands down. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!

We can’t say enough great things about the day camp and boarding of Companion Animal Hospital at Wakefield. If anyone would have seen our girl going in on her first day, and if you would see her today, you would not believe, our little rescue Maggie, is the same pup. She now can’t get there fast enough. She absolutely loves it. The attention the staff has given to our baby has been unparalleled. They will never know how much they are appreciated. If you are contemplating, don’t hesitate leaving your precious family member here.

Incredible people truly care about my animals and my experience. Once there was a small ten minute delay and the staff were so apologetic. They treat my animals so gently and never force anything on them, instead gaining their trust before gently inspecting them. All of the vets are so kind and truly care about the animals. I would 100% recommend.

I am assuming, since you are reading this, you would like to know if this particular vet will take the greatest care of your beloved furry family member; well, let me describe my family’s experience:We had a dog (family member) for 17 years, and as you likely know, if you’ve had the pleasure of sharing company with an animal for a period of time, they can develop health issues, especially later in their life. Our dog, Shadow, had the good fortune to live an incredibly long and surprisingly functional life until the day he passed away; and, I think I speak for my family when I say this, that a great amount of that fact is due to our veterinarian at this particular hospital. At the ripe age of 14, Shadow developed life threatening pancreatitis, and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. We brought him in to Companion Animal Hospital and he had to stay for several days – over Christmas. Granted, we had a bit of a blue Christmas considering an integral part of our family was in the hospital, alone. The reality was, however, that Shad wasn’t alone, because Dr. Metz came in over his Christmas break to specifically check on Shadow. We knew we had a good vet from 14 years of quality work, but this was a step beyond that not only gave our family comfort, but I’m sure helped Shadow in his eventual recovery back to strength. As Shadow grew older, his ability to leave the house became heavily limited and dwindled to me carrying him to and from the car to our appointments, until the day came that Shadow’s stubbornness forced us to not be able to bring him in as regularly as we would have liked. Still, this establishment worked with us as much as possible, and, specifically, Dr. Metz and his assistant did everything they could to make it easier on us, and more importantly, on Shadow. Recently, Shadow’s final day came sooner than you would have ever liked (even with 17 years behind us), and Dr. Metz came to our home twice in the same day, on his off day (again), and helped us through the difficult transition of Shadow’s eventual passing. There are plenty of other, smaller moments that fill the gaps between these two or three entrenched memories, and all of them are equally telling of the quality care you and your beloved animals will receive here. They are all kind, respectful, and above all, they shoulder your emotions and express them in actions that you wish you could enact for your beloved animal to make them feel better as quickly and as resolutely as possible.I don’t know how they compare to other vets, because the comparison doesn’t matter; the care here is deeply touching and has an element of family that can be rarely recreated. I am telling you, as a person who’s emotions dictated his expectation of care for his puppy, I was never once even remotely disappointed, nor was my family. At this point it goes without saying, but Dr. Metz, and the rest of the Companion crew, come highly recommended above all.Thank you.

We love Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield! The veterinarians are all top-notch and the hospital staff is excellent. More importantly, they are compassionate caregivers to their patients. They have gone above and beyond for our pets and our rescues time after time. Two of our cat family members wouldnt even be alive today if not for the dedication of the Companion team. Its hard to even find the right words to express how much these folks mean to us and to our furry family members. Thank you Companion Animal Hospital for taking such great care of our pets, our rescues and us!

I have been to many vets in the Raleigh area over the years-some good others not so much. The folks here are AWESOME. I have adopted 2 cats from them and take all 3 to them even though there are several vets closer to my house by miles. They are caring, compassionate, thorough and informative. They are NOT an emergency clinic-not every vet is-so that isnt a problem for me and I know that up front. I m also switching my dog over from Banfield to them when her check up time comes. Having had pets all my life, and having been to many vets, I can say they are at the very TOP of my list....you cant go wrong....

I was nervous about taking my dog to the vet. When we arrived at companion animal hospital, my pet and I were greeted by a friendly staff. Dr. C. Kelly and Dr. J. Kelly explained to my wife how to care for our dog after her surgery. I really appreciate the care they gave to our dog and felt like they treated us like people and not just a number. Thank you Doctor Kellys!!

My feedback for Companion could not possibly be enough. We came here following Dr. Kelly from a prior practice for which he worked. He is by far the best veterinarian we have ever encountered in our lives, and my family now brings a total of 7 dogs to him, plus ones in the past weve brought. He is compassionate, sincere, courteous, kind, hard-working, and knowledgeable. He knows all of our dogs well and our family as well and never flinches when we seek his guidance. We were even more pleased when we started with him at this practice to find out that Companion has amazing staff across the board. While I cannot speak to other vets (we see Dr. Kelly every time), all of the front-office staff is exceptional. I have always felt welcome and have always received fast, kind, and quality help from everyone. As a testament to Dr. Kelly and this practice, we moved four hours away to WNC, and yet we still bring our dogs here for every non-emergency. Could not be happier.

My family has been patients for about 10 years and have nothing but good things to say for the doctors and their staff. We have both cats and dogs and their care has been very professional. The doctors are very knowledgeable and can handle the most complicated diagnosis. Surgeries are done using the laser and are less painful. I fully recommend them for all small animals. I also use doggie daycare and am very pleased.

I take my dog to daycamp here. The staff is great and so friendly! My boy comes home happy and worn out from playing. Which is a good thing for me! lol I had the vet look at him while he was at daycare for his ears. And was surprised the vet called me personally to let me know what I needed to do. I was impressed. Very clean place and always a smile when you walk in.

While I look at reviews, I am smart enough to know that you will never please everyone 100% of the time, and someone will always be quick to be critical especially if they dont have or (choose to ignore or omit) some of the facts. I throw those reviews out as I think any rational person would do and rely on consumers who have actually received services like me. My dog Copper is there having undergone ACL repair . He had previously had the opposite leg repaired successfully last year by Dr. Metz. Without the excellent care provided by him and indeed the entire staff my best buddy would have had a painful and limited life awaiting him. To me the highest mark on a review is for a practice that displays not only the skill necessary for a successful treatment but abundance of care and compassion for the pet and the owner. Companion, you and your staff have my gratitude!! and Copper says thanks too, he will think of you every time he runs to the pond and tries to outswim the geese (unsuccessfully but hope springs eternal).

I had a very scary experience with my 12 year old dog. I have been taking her to see Dr Metz for many years and adore him, but today there arent words to describe how wonderful he is. I called and explained my problem and he told me to come right down. When I arrived in tears he took me right into the exam room and put me immediately at rest. I was sure I was going to being saying goodbye to my beloved Pumpkin but it turned out to be a treatable problem. I cannot say how wonderful Dr Metz and his wife Carol are. Thanks again you guys are the best🐾

Patient and caring staff! I cant say enough good things about Companion, theyve cared for two of my dogs over the past decade and more. Dr. Metz and team are excellent at what they do - Ive gone through puppyhood, daycamp, surgeries, boarding and senior dog care over the years and have always felt like my pups are getting the best care possible. My current dog is so enthusiastic when going to daycamp, I sometimes think she doesnt want to come home which just goes to show what a comfortable and caring environment they promote. We have been working with Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield (CAHOW) since they opened in 2001.  The things that stand out about CAHOW is their compassionate, knowledgeable team, friendly support, AND they schedule appointments at 30 minute intervals!!!We have often boarded our dogs at CAHOW from a few days at a time, to a week.  We first experienced Doggy Day Care at CAHOW and our dogs love it – including the report cards!Recently we had our eight year old Labrador Retriever in for a dental and Dr. Mike Metz noticed a slab fracture on one of her canines.  This undoubtedly caused pain and helped explain the eating difficulty she had been having.  Dr. Metz performed an extraction, the staff took good care of our dog and she has responded wonderfully!  You notice a positive environment from the moment you enter Companion Animal Hospital.  Truly great people who care enormously about your pets.  We cannot recommend them highly enough!

This practice charges extra for everything and they up sell on your pets care. Be warned and do not rely on the vets advice. X-rays are $250. Who are they kidding? For profit only, and I will never go back. Went by this morning with my indoor cat who had somehow escaped out through the garage last night as was out all last night and was mauled by something. Found her this morning and she was dazed/disoriented so I took her to the closest place I could think of, Companion (need to change your name)..can you believe they told me that since I did not have an appointment, asked me if I had been there before that they would try to squeeze me in around 10AM and it was 8:55AM...WHAT kind of animal hospital does that??? I will NEVER go there again. Took her to my place Complete Pet Care (9500 Falls of Neuse Rd, Dr Hunter) and was seen within 5 minutes...
