I was needing a change to my hair color so I went and saw Rebekah for a all over color. I have extremely curly hair and I was very worried about keeping my curl pattern intact. (I have 3b/3c curls) She listened to all my concerns and explained everything with so much detail and knowledge. I would ask questions about the product line and general hair science and she always gave me complete and well informed answers. You could tell she knew what she was talking about. Every step she kept in mind my curls from adding their version of olapex to the color to making sure to deep condition my hair at the bowl. I felt extremely taken care of.And when the color didn’t come exactly how I wanted she toned it and worked with me till I was completely happy. I love my new hair color but more importantly I love how invested Rebekah was. She cared about me. I will be returning in 8 weeks for my touch up.If you have curly hair or want someone that really cares to do your hair Rebekah is the person!!

I found this place last minute and I’m so glad I did. Because of covid I’ve had zero haircuts & color and I really needed it. My hairstylist Dee not only gave me the best color but made my hair so much more healthier. I feel and look 100 times better! I highly recommend her and this salon!

We all like to drop the hopes and dreams of our tresses on the laps of our hairdressers after swallowing the subliminal programming of a world that exists mostly in photoshopped images. I quickly discovered that Dee listens closely, puts her heart into her craft, and seriously wants to make you look your best: win|win|win.The front desk is friendly and consistently runs smooth; management is a big believer in keeping you well-informed as there is no shortage of helpful confirmations and reminders. Their price list is akin to what youve come to expect from salons in this area.While on the one hand North Hills is a fun location, unfortunately the parking for everything there including this salon is a chore. I typically allow anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes -- depending on the time of year -- to find a spot, and still may wind up all the way out back. That said, theres plenty to do with a few extra minutes if you have any to spare.Aveda is a good high-end brand and this salon, true to its name, carries their products.

Abby was great! Cut and color. Listened to me and was oh so careful.

Bad service would not recommend this salon. I paid $70 to get a cut and wash. All Rebekah did was wash my hair and cut of the tiniest bit of my hair. No layers or side fringe put in. Didnt take any weight off my hair. It felt and looked like ti had not been cut. They rushed my hair because they had to close because of COVID. I have tried to get my refund due to the poor service and not receiving what I paid for. The manager is rude and denied my refund on many attempts. Money grabbing company!!!!

I was immediately impressed with this Salon and the calming and lovely appearance of it as I entered. I was greeted with a smile by the receptionist and within minutes I met my stylist. She listened carefully as I explained what I wanted in my haircut. She then gave me a wonderful and very relaxing shampoo and scalp massage. Ana described the steps for my cut and style. She was very professional and I felt confident that I was in good hands. I was so pleased with the results and look forward to returning in the near future.

Great place. Randy does an awesome job on my hair (cut and color) and Carlyn does an awesome eye brow wax. Very friendly place. And Ive always loved Aveda products. I wouldnt trust any other brand of color on my hair. Relaxing tasteful interior. Prices are a tad bit high, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended salon.

She was very professional and personable and listened to what I wanted and answered all of my many questions honestly and professionally regarding what was good for my hair type and shade. First and last time there. They are expensive and Abby the stylist spent very little time and attention to my haircut. She got the color tone wrong and declined to cut my husband’s hair. I am not happy with the results or the service. She was more concerned about showing personality rather than focusing on my hair cut and getting it done right. Guess what, I wanted a color service and a haircut. People do not go to hair salons based on personality. How can this be allowed at an Aveda salon. Planning on going to another place to get it fixed. Don’t use Abby. She needs to be retrained with her colors.

I love Jay, a senior stylist at North Hills, and have been seeing her for about two years. I even had her do my hair and make-up for my wedding. She always does a great job with my root touch-up and gives me good advice about what products to use in my hair to help it look better. Not to mention she keeps my hairstyle current and complimentary to my face. I would highly recommend her. She also gives great scalp massages while washing your hair! :o)

I have had my hair cut by Naphavady for years, and have had a flawless experience every time. I have a double crown, so haircuts are honestly a bit anxiety inducing for me as a bad haircut ends up making hair in the middle of my head stick up straight, almost like Alfalfa from Our Gang. Naphavady has never failed to give me a perfect haircut, and I regularly get compliments after a trim. Furthermore, she has a great personality. She is very friendly, comedic, and insightful, and also has a wonderful sense of knowing when Id like conversation versus when Id like a more quiet and peaceful styling experience. I cannot recommend her more highly, and the Aveda staff as a whole is always highly professional, accommodating, and polite. My first time there I was partnered up with a new stylist, Heather. She is amazing. Im mixed (Black/Hispanic) with a rather interesting hair texture... several, actually.Heather didnt miss a beat! She took her time to figure analyze and within an hour and a half I was in and out with a great cut and only 2 products used!I was impressed and she is now my permanent stylist.Very happy. Worth the price!

The pampering starts as you walk through the door. The salon is elegant and clean; the colors are warm and inviting; and you are offered a refreshing drink during your visit. The wait is minimal if at all. The staff is friendly and sincere. The receptionist even took a picture of me with my stylist (I wanted to post my new hairstyle)! My hairstylist, Shawn, has been cutting my hair for several years. Hes fun and has a style and flair for making me (and several of my friends) feel beautiful before leaving the salon. He always makes sure I am happy with the cut before leaving his chair. I get many compliments after a haircut. I highly recommend Von Kekel Salon.

It was my first visit. I had a gift certificate so I went for the top hair stylist. I told her I didnt want to look like every other older lady. She examined my hair, made a few suggestions, and we agreed on something outrageous for me. I love it! Have gotten several compliments and I feel like a new person. Will definitely go back.

I love the Aveda products and they are so healthy for my hair and our environment. I enjoyed the relaxing time during my color, cut, and style. Luther wasnt chatty like most hair designers, so I was able to relax and not feel like I needed to entertain my hair designer. He is confident and knows when to confer with other designers to obtain the best results of his coloring choices for me.The only thing I didnt care for is that my color did not get set and therefore did not get all washed out at the salon. I was getting color residue for the next four days. Other than that, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new color and am receiving a lot of compliments.

Dee is the best stylist! I met her just before Christmas - she did my hair and make-up trial prior to my daughters wedding. My hair was great and my makeup was show stopper on wedding day. I scheduled an appointment as I love Aveda products and this was my first time at this location. Highlights and root retouch. End result was: green/gray highlights and since stylist used toner it turned rest of my hair also green. I was there for 4 hrs and they charged me $205. They asked me to come in next morning to fix, but I had an early flight scheduled, so they didn’t even think to stay longer and fix the problem immediately. Really disappointing.

Took my 2.5 year old here for his first haircut. I can not remember his stylist name but I am sooo thankful she was the one to do his first haircut. I showed pictures of what I was wanting and she recommended keeping the sides a bit longer since he still has fine baby hair, if it was cut shorter he would look more bald. Our son wouldn’t stop tapping his feet, would move his head when distracted and threw a fit when he got hair in his mouth and she was amazing through it all! She got a towel so we could get the hair from his hands, face and mouth before continuing the cut. She also kept telling him how great he was doing during the entire time.I was so nervous about his first haircut because his hair was shoulder length coming in, and it was his first cut but I love the cut, my little loves the cut and I could not be more thankful for an amazing stylist!!

I called to make an appointment for my daughters Military Ball. After speaking with 3 individuals including the stylist that we would be seeing, my daughter is African American and has tightly coiled hair. The stylist(MJ) walked up to her with the look of fear on her face began gripping my daughters curls and said she didn’t have time to do her hair that she had to leave in 45 min for her daughters recital. I was directed to the manager and was told that I never explained to them the service I wanted. I explained not only did I explain to 1 person I spoke to 3 different people explaining what we wanted when I made the appointment. I was then turned away and told good luck they didn’t have time to take her appointment. I had to explain to my daughter 4 hrs before her Military Ball what just happened and why she didn’t have an appointment anymore. Paul and staff were incredibly rude and dismissive. Simply admit you can’t cater to Africa American clientele and don’t break a teen girls heart 4 hours before her event. Shame on you.Side note: I was 9 min late and you better believe that point was brought up constantly.

My husband and I have been going to Von Kekel for about 15 years or so. I have always appreciated the cleanliness of the salons and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff.Shawn has gotten to know my hair and what is best. I am happy that we have found a great salon but new friends in Shawn and Paul.

I’ve been seeing MJ for almost a year and this is the best experience I’ve ever had. I’ve been to several salons and even attempted to color my hair myself (box color). Needless to say my hair was very damaged but MJ saved me. My hair has never looked this good or been this healthy in my life. I was pleased to be able to get an appointment quickly and was VERY pleased with the haircut. I have short, fine hair (with cowlicks); and I need a professional and current look for work. The cut Genevieve delivered is perfect; and it provides options for changing up the look. Im pleased with my experience and glad to be able to provide a recommendation.

Since moving to the Triangle 18 mos ago Ive had difficulty finding a hairdresser who could cut my hair the way my old hairdresser back home had always done it. It is difficult to cut/style due to it being very fine and no one seemed to be able to get it right.Then a friend referred me to Dee. I saw her last month, explained how I wanted my hair cut, and she nailed it on the first try. My hair looks and feels great. She did a terrific job and Im so glad to have found such a good hairdresser!

Ashlie is fabulous! Ive known her for years and she pays great attention to detail when cutting and doing color. She is a wonderful stylist and by far the best ive ever found. I use to not like getting my hair cut and colored because of bad experiences in the past but Ashlie will make sure you know what she is doing and what to expect. I always leave feeling beautiful.

This review would be a 5 if it was solely for Carlyn.I used to go to TM Nail Spa off of Ed Drive in Raleigh. My manicurist Leslie was the best and she always had the best Shellac colors. She moved away and I had been in search of a good alternative.I had an appointment with Aretha (She had given me a polish change before and I heard her manis were awesome). When I arrived I was told that Aretha was out but that I would be with Margo.This was the worst manicure I have ever had. She started by telling me that she was not a nail person. She said that she focused on wedding hair and makeup. She was not lying.. it was very obvious and she should not have been doing nails. She did not shape my nails well at all. It looked like a 10 year painted my shellac on. I even had to tell her to go back and clean my cuticle and edges of my nails off where the polish ran over. She didnt cut my cuticle which I was fine with but she didnt clean up the severely dry spots and hang nails either. Also they only had a few shellac colors.I was extremely disappointed. I paid almost $50 for a very poor manicure and 1 day later the polish is lifting on my thumb!!!!!Note: I have been going to this Aveda for almost 5 years. I have the best Brazilian waxes and facials with Carlyn. I have even had my makeup done there before. All of which have been positive except for this. Carlyn is awesome and she is so good at what she does. She is 5 stars all the way!!!!As much as I wanted to try Aretha, Margo just gave me a very bad experience with manicures at Aveda and I wont be going back to them for manicures.

When moving to a new city, picking a new hair stylist is always a little traumatic. Dee is wonderful. She has always done a terrific job with my husband and myself. The salon atmosphere is really nice as well and the staff is always friendly.

I have been seeing MJ for hair (color and cuts) since the beginning of 2019. I was new to the area and tried another salon first. Unfortunately, I had a very bad color service at the other salon, and I came to MJ seeking help before a family wedding. MJ was extremely dedicated to getting my hair back to a presentable state and stayed well beyond closing to take care of me. I have been seeing her ever since! I have never received as many compliments on my hair as I do now. I appreciate her honest feedback and guidance on hair color/style and I love that she is willing to share her vision for my hair as well.I recently started seeing Carlyn for brow shaping, brow tints and facials. I would absolutely recommend this salon to anyone! The service is very friendly and the salon is very clean. Not mention, more than accommodating. I had a hair cut at another salon and unfortunately ended up walking out with a butchered hair cut due to the stylist slipping with her scissors and taking off almost 2-3 inches too much. I had that stylist just even the hair cut up as much as possible and decided to seek a different stylist. Of course I was hysterical once I left and actually got a good look at my hair. Id never had a bad hair cut. I called Von Kekel and explained my situation and was able to get an appointment that day to be seen. Heather was my stylist and she was phenomenal! Seriously, she took such great care of me and was very understanding of what I was looking for in a hair style as she tried to fix the hair cut. I left actually loving my shorter hair rather than hating it. Give these guys a shot, they wont let you down. Thanks again, Heather! You are so awesome!

I just had such a wonderful experience with Stephanie! First hot stone massage, and Im hooked! If anything it wasnt long enough, so instead of the 50 minute massage Ill be getting the 90 minute massage :) I will definitely be recommending Von Kekel to my friends, and family!

I received a massage today at the North Hills location and it was incredible. Blair is awesome. I highly recommend her if you want to experience a massage to relieve tension and destress. It was very relaxing.

I went to the salon yesterday and had the stylist Chelsea do my hair and she was amazing! I have very curly and naturally dark hair and she did a fantastic job. I was scared of breakage from the highlights but she took such good care of my hair that it feels Just as good as it did before I went in! The highlights look so natural but also very blond! Just what I wanted. And when she was cutting my hair she took into concideration that I have such curly hair so she did not cut to much length off that was not needed unlike some other her stylist whom don’t understand the derastic difference of length in wet curly hair vs dry curly hair. I would recommend her to anyone! I will definitely be going back to her! :)

I have been impressed with Von Kekel. It is easy to schedule and all staff I have encountered is polite, friendly and helpful. Carlin is amazing and so kind. I love getting my lashes tinted and on my splurges have had a great manicure and pedicure from the other staff there.

I recently visited Von Kekel in North Hills for a haircut with Courtney. She is full of energy and has a great personality. She did a great job both cutting my hair and blowing it out straight. Not everyone has talent when it comes to styling hair, but Courtney does. She is also very accomodating. I would recommend her.

I have been going to Ashleigh for about four years now. She is amazing! I have had highlights, all over color, and many haircuts and I have never been unhappy. She really listens to what you want and does a fantastic job delivering the results. She is a precise, skilled, and knowledgeable stylist.

Not very happy today. I changed stylists since mine had left and showed her a picture. Long Bob with waves... I left with straight hair and an explanation that I only scheduled a cut. If I had know there would have been just a blow dry I would have went home and done it myself. The front staff was not very helpful and didnt even suggest anything to make me happy. I will not ever go back there. Very not happy. I came straight home and used a barrel iron like the front girl said I should use on it . The cut ended up not being that good even after I added the waves and it was much shorter than the picture I showed the stylist. I would call back for a refund but Im so ticked off I dont even want to deal with the salon again. So I just jumped in the shower and trying an air dry with some product and then I ll try the iron again. Im not even sure what happened since I have been going there for a few years and Ive always been happy before.

I decided to get my hair cut here because it was one of the only salons open on a Sunday and they had good reviews. I had hair down my back and Ashlie cut my hair into a bob and she did a wonderful job. I would definitely recommend this salon.

Very sad to share my poor review of an Aveda salon after 24 years of going to an Aveda Salon and always having an amazing experience. Allie, who was new to the salon, turned my blonde highlights grey and had no idea how to fix it. Siyah, my normal stylist, came to her rescue and saved my hair, but it is very bright and needs to be toned down because she had to bleach it twice. Siyah advised I wait 2 weeks after all the bleach she used. The receptionist, in a bumbling attempt to tell the owner/manager what happened, made the experience even more awkward for everyone. The owner asked what I wanted? What a strange question after such a traumatic experience? I received the service for free after 45 minutes of all the wrong questions being asked and my friend being my advocate. He offered for me to come in “Tuesday” to get it fixed but I live an 1.5 hrs away and I am moving overseas in less than a week. I came in expecting the exceptional Aveda promise of amazing hair. Instead I was so upset I cried and was extremely lucky a stylist was present to fix it. Then I had to endure the most awkward haircut of my life from the stylist who turned my hair grey and additionally the owner/manager asking me what I wanted! Allie needs to go back to the Aveda Institute and get re-trained in coloring so this never happens to anyone else. It was terrifying!

I needed a new hairdresser so decided on Von Kekel because I love all Aveda products so why not choose an Aveda salon. I was randomly placed with Dee Crabtree. I could not be more thrilled! I have very very thick and wavy/curly hair...very few people know what to do with it. Dee listened to my needs and struggles with my hair and took to it with the precision of a surgeon. Seriously, I have never had a haircut in which the stylist took so much time and care...it is obvious that she is passionate about her work and is an artist at it! She is a junior stylist, which surprised me since her skill level is so high! I have had master stylists in other salons charge me twice as much and the results were not nearly as good. I am so happy that I found Dee! If you have very thick or unruly, bulky hair, Dee is the person in Raleigh that you need to see!!! Thank you Dee!!!!

I have been getting my haircuts from Genevieve for 8 years now! When I first moved to Raleigh I was worried that I wouldnt find someone who could cut asian hair well. Luckily I met Genevieve! I am always happy with my haircut every time. I love how I dont even have to tell her what I want b/c she knows what works best for me at that time. And I completely trust her judgement. She is really talented, an artist, and always does a great job. She has also given me some good beauty tips over the years too. Overall, I really enjoy my me time at Von Kekel and with Genevieve!

My first time there and got a great haircut by Marshall. He had good suggestions on what could be done with my hair. Adding a glass of wine, a shoulder and neck massage fit the bill!

Janine is the best! I always leave feeling confident with a hairstyle that works perfectly for me. I have very straight, thin hair and it is soooo hard to find a stylist who can cut it right. Never leaving :)

No. Just no. I made an appointment here after a client recommended it. I have a small stripe of blond in my hair, and wanted a cut, and root touch up for this 1 wide area. I told them on the phone that I wanted a cut, and had a very small stripe that I needed root touch up on. My stylist was Genevieve, one of the master stylists. We talked about what I wanted for color, and she went ahead and used approximately 4 foils on this area. As far as my cut, she basically touched my hair and said just a trim?, and that was that. No questions about how I wear my hair, or what I felt like it needed. At the end of the whole process, I was charged $80 for the haircut (as expected, listed on the menu of services), and $90 for the 1 root touch up with toner applied.I have had this strip of blond for 2 years, and had it touched up at various places, never paying more then $30 each time (including toner).Unfortunately, not only was the price shocking, she did a poor job in keeping where the original blond was, pulling new chunks into what she did, making it look more like a blond splotch then a strip of hair.I called after leaving and asked to speak to a manager. Was given the run around. No, theres no manager here now, I asked if there was a time I could call back to speak to a manager and the girl on the phone asked if she might be able to help me. When I explained what had happened, and that I was kind of shocked no one had taken the time to tell me that I would be paying the same price for a small section of hair as I would be for my entire head, she tried to explain that it was because I saw a Master Stylist.I called back today and again was given the run around when asking for a manager. After I further questioned when a manager would be available, I was told that there was no manager at the North Hills location.Not only was I shocked at how much I was charged without someone just explaining how the salon charges, how poor of a dye job I received (and hair cut, but the way, but I wouldnt have complained about it, would just have dealt with bad hair for the next few weeks), but I was most appalled by how terribly my complaint was handled, and that they have refused to remedy the situation.I would never recommend this salon to anyone.

Ive been going to Von Kekel Salon for many years. My current stylist, MJ, is so intuitive about the best styles and treatments for my hair type. Ive had a customer at the bookstore where I work ask me to tell her who does my hair! I love Aveda products too!

I am VERY particular about my hair. Having long blonde hair at 53 is daring in itself but Genevieve not only makes it appear that I was born with it, she makes it look as though my hair is the picture of health! It is huge comfort to know that I can go into the salon and be totally taken care of, she is like going to a hair doctor!! She looks at my hair and analyzes what is needed at this stage of my life, to keep it as it looked 10 years ago. Although she keeps a copy of my Aveda formulas, that I have kept with me for the last 10 years, she tweaks things to compensate for such things as grey hair (how did that get there?!?) that I didnt have 10 years ago! Just because I am getting older and determined to embrace it at every stage, there is no reason I cant feel beautiful at the same time. Genevieve definitely is a huge part of that. I was hesitant to tell the complete truth about her because when you find someone as good as she is, you want to keep her for yourself but I still need to sleep at night so there you go, she is the BEST!! So as long as you book your appointments during the day while I am at work, were good!! :-)

I visited the salon on Sun, May 24th for my first appointment with Christa. I found her to be very professional and knowledgeable about ethnic hair. I went to Von Kekel for the first time less than a month ago. I went specifically for tape in extensions as a friend said they heard good things. After 5 hours in the salon - I will admit MJ did a fantastic color job - I left exhausted from the day. During this install of tape ins, we ran out and I had to go spend more money on hair even after I had a full consultation and ordered the amount my stylist informed me to. I had tape ins for 3 years about 4 years ago, but my stylist was in Angier and I wanted to find someone local. Within 2 days, the tape started falling out left and right. I couldn’t hide them, they were slipping and looked awful. I called the salon immediately and did not receive a call back. I tried again the next day and they set me up with a follow up right before thanksgiving. The stylist took out several tapes ins that were extremely too high on my head and hard to conceal and tried to fix several other pieces that were hanging on. I went out of town for work for a week and was so embarrassed by my extensions showing the entire work trip. When I returned home, I called the salon and spoke to Rebecca. She said the manager would be in the next day and would call me around noon. Another day goes by with no call, so I again called the salon. Later that day, manager Paul finally called me back. We spoke and I told him my concerns and that I had to go to someone else (that after my 3rd attempt, my stylist recommended....fishy) to get the terrible tape in job re- done. It cost me triple the cost from the beginning with MJ as I had to pay for removal and re- installation of DIFFERENT HAIR. He informed me that Von Kekel gives no refunds under any circumstances and they try to rectify the situation. There was no way this salon could rectify or give me confidence after I went twice with no rectification. BEWARE no refunds ever... and this salon just wants your money and lies during consultation.
