I wish i could give zero stars. They don’t even deserve a 1 star rating!! TERRIBLE!!!! paid $200 dollars for box braids. Literally sat there ALL day from 9:30-4:30. EXTREMELY SLOW braider. THEN ONCE DONE, notice my braids were unraveling because she did NOT tie my ends before dipping it in water. Called them back and they were NOT helpful. Only tried to assure me my braids would not come undone EVEN after i told her they were already coming undone!!! Instead of saying come back Now so that we can fix to your liking especially being that I paid $200 for this mess. She tells me to come back in two days and if it is undone they will fix it. This was my first time going to the shop and my last! I generally go to a different shop where they has amazing service and do a wonderful job however because of time constraints today I just went to try this shop. Boy was that a mistake! Never again! I called my usual shop i go to and their shop was amazing as always because they fixed my hair for me the same day!! thank you, Mama’s African Hair Braiding For fixing the disaster of box braids that I got from the Shop On capital Boulevard!

I have been to this place before but never again. I came to get Senegalese twists done for my birthday. When I got there they needed and extra hour to finish a client. So I went yo get my nails done to give them time. When I got back almost 2hrs later the same client was still getting their hair done. Once I was seated it took them a long time to complete the service.There was discrepancies on the price and also less than a week into having these twists they began falling out.. I have had Senegalese twists before and they last for months. When I called to get this situation rectifues I was given the rub around about it.... To date I still havent heard anything back from them about rectifying the situation.

I giving a 3 stars bc the price was a little high especially the fact I brought in my own hair for the box braids I got should of been $160 not $200. Also the main girl that was braiding my hair did not do the best job at clipping the hairs sticking out from the braid.

I went to get box braids above my butt. Sis said $280‼️ I had my own hair. When she realized I wasn’t going for that. Sis said okay $240. All this price changing happened in less than 10seconds. These women are crooks. Dont spend a mother loving dime with these ladies. Attempting to take advantage of the African American community which spends money regularly at this salon. I will be reporting my experience to the BBB and facebook social groups. They have no prices posted which os a clear violation of services.

I went there for micro and that what I got loved them. It was worth the time and money. But next time I like them braided a Lil farther down.

If I could give them less than one star I would! I called to ask how much they would charge to do a certain style. I even sent the picture to her cell phone or the style. She asked me how long it would take me to get there and I said an hour because I don’t live in Raleigh. She said ok come on and it will be 180.00. I drive to Raleigh and it was raining hard but I was persistent I was going to get my hair done. When I get there, the lady walks over and ask me if I could go to their Rocky Mount shop which is another hour away. No reason offered at all. I told her that was too far away and I had driven over an hour already. She told me I had to come back the next morning. What??? You got me all the way up there and tell me to come back. Don’t go to this place. This is not good business. I will not recommend anyone to go there. I text her back the next morning to tell her how unprofessional this is and no response. Go somewhere else where your business is appreciated!!!

This was my first time going and my last.... now i called prior to ask questions and to see if i needed to do blow dry my hair so it’s easier for her to braid she told me no. She will do everything. Ok cool i have 4C hair type which is coil type hair.... she referred to my hair as “ nappy” and was sighing and complaining in whispers to her self and also to her fellow stylist about my hair. Then proceeded to say the next time i arrive to blow it out myself i clearly told her i asked before coming. I felt uncomfortable the whole time like my hair was the talk of the shop. I will not be returning and don’t recommend this place. They need to have better communication and customer service to their customers. And don’t talk about the persons hair your doing....

I had an appointment at 9 called and told them I would be running late they said ok it’s fine I get there no one is available to do my hair at the exact moment understandable I came late. First I call prior to my appointment asking about price and what hair to get bc I was getting passion twist they mentioned they don’t provide the hair bc it’s expensive. I sit in my chair to get started two lady’s come to do my hair, they start the twist one lady was doing was great the other not so great look more like Senegalese twist. The lady who does the twist the correct way realize how long the hair is, mumbles this is to long for the price when she didn’t even quote me the price lady who answers the phone did $200 for waist length passion twist. So she gets up walk away four twist in my hair and nobody can give me a price and I been calling two days to confirm everything. I’m asking what’s the price they say their trying to get their boss on the line. Waited 4 hours for someone to walk out on me then say come back the next day because the lady who did the twist the correct way just got off work and tired. This was my second time coming first time I had no problem but this second time they were horrible from timing, service, communication… I’m mad I wrote this long a** post but I never in my life experienced service like that. DO NOT RECCOMEND!!! AND I WENT TO A DIFFERENT SHOP TO GET THE HAIR DONE NEXT DAY WAY BETTER SERVICE. THEY NEED TRAINING ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. PRAYING FOR THEM CAUSE IT DONT MAKE NO SENSE! ❤️

Made appointment earlier in week for Saturday at 2pm! Asked would it be a problem any delay in service due to I had timed event to attend ! Arrived 15 mins early to be told they were booked that owner booked appointment and not her! Told me she dont do braids unless I got perm and o can come back at 6 if I need service! No apology no nothing other than not express frustration with her because owner book appointment not her!

I’ve been coming here for years. Absolutely love the ladies here. The owner is super sweet. They get busy sometimes but the work they do is worth it. I’ve been getting me and my daughter hair done here, wouldn’t go anywhere else.

The price the owner gave on the phone was increased by $40 when I got there. That aside I loved 💕 the experience! They were very sweet and visibly tried hard to accommodate all customers. my hair looked absolutely beautiful when I walked out of there, they know what theyre doing.

The only problem I had was that they charged me $20.00 more than what the person on the phone told me.I was gonna give them a 20 tip anyways but I can see how that can be a problem. Other than that they were very professional and very gentle to my daughter who is tender headed. I got micros and my daughter got box braids.To the owner of this shop: My review would be different if I hadn’t planned on giving a $20.00 tip anyways. Was told to come at 1030. Got there at 10:15 and was told I had to come back at 2. Came back at 2 and was made to wait an hour and 15 mins more because they weren’t ready. Furthermore, what I asked for was not what I got. I asked for big knotless braids and they did these mini braids that I hated. Plus they make you pay for the services 4 braids in so even when you don’t like it you’re stuck with it. I’ll never come back here. Ever!!!!! Worse $220.00 every spent.

So, where do I begin? Today was my very first time using this business. I looked at the reviews and thought ok, they have pretty good reviews, I’ll try them out.I get there, they call me right away. I’m impressed. I got crochets and they told me it would take 2 hours. First thing is they used extensions to braid my real hair. Huh? I asked why, they said my hair is too soft and the braids won’t stay without extensions. Weird! I’ve been wearing crochets over 20 years, no one has ever done this or had any problems. Ok! Next 4.5 hours in..... yes, 4.5 hours in at this “2hour” appointment, another lady starts going off and yelling because she’s been there for 7 hours (getting very long box braids) apparently the lady who called me back was the same lady doing the other lady’s hair, she stopped doing her hair to start doing mine. What? So the lady asked for her money back said she could have someone else finish her hair. The owner was called, the lady refused to speak to the owner, saying she was upset and didn’t want to be disrespectful. Long story short, the lady was told several times to hurry up with me, basically rush through my hair (after payment was received) Note: They do not take credit cards so they had me stop in the middle of getting my hair done to go to the ATM in the dark to get cash for them. I was going to give a $20 tip but changed my mind) so the lad ping my hair was told to go back and finish the other lady’s hair. Another lady came to finish mine, which she had another customer who she stopped doing to do me (here we go again). By the time my hair is finished it’s completely full on one side and barely making it on the other. You can tell two different people did my hair, but you can also tell I WON’T EVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!!

I went here yesterday for box braids. I made a same-day appointment over the phone. Even though they were busy, as I saw when they got there, they made room for me. I did have to wait a hot minute, only because it was a holiday and not many people could make it in so they had to call in my braider. Once she arrived, she got to work very quickly and made fast but efficient work of what I wanted done with my hair. I would also like to shout her out on being accommodating with my damaged spots. I came in with very patchy sides that I thought she would have to leave out, but she found a way to make it work! As I observed, they are very thorough with each individual on what exactly they want done. One lady even started a braid for a costumer to make sure that’s what she wanted done and told her she would take it out and start over if that wasn’t the size and length she wanted. Everyone was very friendly and the quality of their work is very nice. Fair prices too. Very professional and friendly group of ladies. I will be coming back!

They did an excellent job on my hair!! I called in and was told to come right in. I got med size box braids, and the results were the best I ever had in life. I’m from NYC and have had the best, grace this head lol but this place trumps all. Clean, engaging, and fast service. I will return. Thank u ladies. My bday was the following day and I looked lovely. Before you go here. Know what you want. If they deviate from doing what you desire then you must walk away, if you feel pain from hair pulling and you made them aware but it continues...get up and leave. It will not stop..I promise. Unfortunately, the owner has dealt with mainly a certain type of clientele and she will group you with these class of people. Dont let her come off like she knows more about whats best for you and what you want. Youll be left unsatisfied, paying alot of money, wasting valuable time and youll be in physical pain like I am today. These ladies are extremely nice and most are professional but the owner needs to get out of her head space and listen to each individual customer to determine their needs. Good luck and remember be firm. Youre the customer.

I initially posted a great review, but unfortunately I am having to take that back. I came in to get Senegalese twists on 5/29. Within a few weeks they were slipping out of the edges and i called the owner to have them done over. When I arrived the woman who was instructed to fix them acted like she didn’t want to. When I left, I noticed she didn’t fix all of the loose twists and some were hanging on my a thread. I returned to the shop and in front of her, PULLED OUT 3 twists. She fixed them again. Since then, more twists have also slipped out. I called the owner today and she tried to stand me down about when I initially came in to tell me that it’s been too long to fix them. My hair is a month old and looks terrible— something I’ve never experienced here or anywhere else. Very disappointed and will not return.

I will never ever return to them again. So rude, overpriced, and not professional.

Very rude kept telling us to leave because of Covid but let other people in. “You can’t stay due to the virus” and when we left they let 5 people in there to stay.

I would not recommend coming here they do not clean their combs properly I ended up having a jungle infection on my scalp from their combs . if you do come make sure to bring your own or clean them yourself when you get their . I will not be returning here

It was my first time going and I really was very pleased with my hair stylist so I guess after my visit on Sunday that will be where I will be going to get my hair braided my co workers wanted to know who did my hair I love it so very much

The owner is very kind and accommodating. I love my seneglease twist however, it took 2 days to have them completed. The first day was 100% my fault I didnt get there until 7pm so I knew it would be a late night. I left at 11pm and returned at 8:30am the following day and still didnt leave until 3pm even with the entire front of my head being done the night before. My braider was the older lady, she continuously asked was it too tight and wanted them to be comfortable which I can appreciate. Overall I would recommend them just devote an entire day to the process.

I’m new to the area. I search the web for a place to get my hair braided and found this spot. I must say I am very impressed not only with the final results of my hair but more importantly the level of teamwork that the ladies demonstrated to get not just my hair done but each client that was there during my visit. I went back to get perimeter of my hair redone and the woman who braided my hair started chopping braids off with out seeing how long my real hair was, now my hair is very uneven the front is way shorter then the rest of my hair. I will never go back here again.

I went and got some box braids......they did a good job on my hair....the only negative thing is they are rough on your head...and some of my parts are crooked...

They take forever to do your hair, they are inconsiderate about how aggressively they are handling customers hair. The prices are more expensive when you get there then what they tell you on the phone. They will stop doing your hair just to do someone else I will never in my life come to this place again. They are also rude not to me but to other people, and it took 2 people almost 7 hrs to do my hair 5 people got done before me and I came in at least 3 hours before them. They also don’t change out the towels they have use sit on or the cover they put around our necks they barely spray Lysol on it.

They are ruthless with your time, they overbook and tell you to return multiple times knowing they don’t have the staff. Just tell me you can’t do it. Its not worth the business you can lose in the long run.

When I first called about getting my hair braided I spoke to Ms. Ester I informed her that I needed to wash my hair first she said come now Ill give you a free wash. When I arrived I went straight to the wash bowl where the skinny lady washed and dried my hair. The skinny lady proceeded to braid my hair in small feed in cornrows going up in a ponytail. After she did 4 cornrows she asked me how I liked it. I told her I didnt because the parts wasnt straight and the cornrows were different sizes. She instantly got an attitude and started huffing and puffing and speaking there language. The tall lady came over to assist me with the issue I asked her could she do it for me she said she had to leave ok no problem. She contacted Ms. Ester the owner at home to let her know the issue that was going on. I spoke to Ms. Ester and she went out of her way to welcome me in her home to braid my hair. I have never had this issue at this shop before. Everybody goes to this shop because they do a VERY GOOD JOB. I will be back in 3 weeks.

I went there two days before my appointment to make sure they had the right hair I wanted. The day of my appointment, I talked with the owner, sent pictures, color and style that I wanted. I get to my appointment, they didn’t have my hair and tried to get me to agree to black, blonde or platinum. My hair is salt and pepper! I’m so disgusted! That’s not professional at all...they should make this right for me ijs

WISH I HAD READ THE REVIEWS FIRST!!! I see not much has changed! I called and got a quote for the small knotless box braids and was told $220, it would take 4-5 hours and to come at 8:30. I arrived at 8:20 and was told multiple times the braider was on her way. She arrived about 9:30 but stopped multiple times for personal phone calls as well to work on other heads!! Customer service was terrible and employee nor owner were willing to compensate me in any way, did not seem to care that they caused me to miss money by taking 3-4 hours longer! My time is just as important and I should have been given correct information but I’m sure they just said whatever to get me there disregarding my time. It should not have taken 8 hours!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!!! Had a few people that wanted to know how they did so once I called them to tell them about my experience that was definitely 2 customers that will not be going there and I hope others stay away also. TERRIBLE! And since the owner responds to some reviews I wish she would try to deny this one!!!

This is the only braiding salon I go too. Whether for cornrows to crochet styles, they are awesome. U always leave looking and feeling great with lots of compliments that follow.

They do great hair but it took them 11 hours to do my box braids!! The first time I got my hair done there my braids wasn’t long at all and it took them 9 hours to do it, it should never take that long to do box braids.. Then they will stop doing you’re hair to do someone else hair it’s just crazy!! If you don’t mind being in a hair shop all day then this is the right place for you.

OK, I absolutely love this place. My hair looks great. In fact, Ill keep going back here for a long time and continue to rock my new style. I have nubian twists and I LOVE THEM.. OH, yeah Saio and Amy both did my hair. They are truly fantastic. They know what they are doing for sure. Astou, the owner, I believe, is great as well. OVERPRICED !!! I usually come here to get 6 feed in braids and they charge me $60 which is alittle to much but just recently when I went they charged me $80 and didnt tell me until she had already started my hair... If i would have known i would have not let them do my hair !!! $80 is very overpriced for 6 braids. WILL NOT be coming back to this place.

I would give them less than a 1 star rating if I could. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP. I had a horrible experience. I was under the impression going into the shop that my style would be 30$. Before I was even finished, the woman told me to go to cashpoints and get out 80$. I gave her my card to pay but she told to go to cash points they do not accept cards. SHE NEVER TOLD ME THIS. THIS WHOLE SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOID IF SHE TOLD ME TO GET CASH BEFORE SHE EVEN STARTED MY HAIR. I did not object to the price, I was just disgruntled because I expected 30$ not 80$. I was told a different price on the phone. She laughed at me and spoke to me unkindly. I preferred to go to the bank I use, which is down the street so I didnt get charged a fee for using an non-BOA atm. Which in my opinion is understandable. However, she stood in front of the door and would not let me leave. I told her to look at my license plate and take down my tag if she didnt think I would return. If she did as I suggested, she couldve called the police with my tag if I never showed up. She was looking into my wallet trying to see how much money I had. She was yelling at me. She told me I had to give her my cellphone in order to leave to go to the ATM. Which I did not want to do. I eventually gave her my phone, however, I should have called the police because what she did was not right! Also, my style took longer than necessary each stylist keep switching from me, to another woman to another woman. one woman did not do my hair for the duration of my time there. And one of the stylist smelled very fragrant and sitting with her for 30+ minutes is not something that is favorable in my opinion. I believe that the way they do their business is NOT how business is done. If you do not accept cards you tell your clients that at the beginning not at the end of the service and get upset and think they are trying to cheat you because of something you failed to do. I was giving them my money and they were making it very difficult and inconvenient for me. Regardless of how my hair is done or how it looks, the service and stylists were not up to par, and if you would like to be treated with respect and have overall nice and clean environment do not go to shop. It is a waste of your MONEY and your time. DO NOT GO HERE.

My fellow African sisters take advantage when charging and they dont care or even think that it will give them bad reputation and people will not refer others like myself. This is a NO GO AREA. How can they charge $50 for doing a 2 year olds hair, no artificial hair used, and an additional $20 for beads. This is just crazy and ridiculous. We will be supporting our fellow Africans and then they return the favor by this greediness.

I asked for a particular hairstyle and they did a HORRIBLE JOB! The parts were crooked, the braids were horrible and it was a waste of time. Do not use clients as test dummies! If you do not know how to do something just SAY THAT! I would NEVER REFER ANYONE HERE!

I have been getting my hair done here for years. I took my 13 year old daughter to get her hair done. They changed her $120 for 9 braids thats going to last for a week. She wanted her braids smaller, and they did them big and they loose. I will take my business elsewhere. They didnt try to correct it. Than lied saying they didnt have black at all. When clearly both of my daughters hair was done with black hair. Very unprofessional one bad experience made me never give my money nor business to them EVER AGAIN

This is a very good shop you walk right in and get seated right away never have a problem with them. Their work is worth the money all of them are very nice, well experience, and really friendly done been to them several of times and always received good customer services will recommend them any day.

She braids so fast and neat! She does not rip out your edges! I will continue to go here! Best most respectful shop I’ve been too.

The ladies here are very professional, polite and courteous. I highly recommend you you to try them out. They specialize in braiding, crochet, sew-in just to name a few. Highly recommend you try them out.

My daughter needed her hair combed out and this place did a wonderful job. They were very nice to her and helped ease her fears and treated her with gentleness and love. They breaded her hair and we love it.

Found this shop on google and service was okay. Too much chatting in my ear they did not take credit card and my updo was not good

UPDATE: This is an update to the post below. I called and explained my extreme discomfort due to the weight of the hair and she offered an alternative of putting cornrows in the front. I took out the braids in front and went back to the shop on Monday. The cornrows combined with my cutting some of the hair cascading down my back made all the difference in the world! The stylist was kind and asked me often if it was too tight. She was professional and considerate. I will be going back and recommend them to all who want braids. Be specific. If you dont know what you want they will put in what they think looks best on you.First encounter: I described the hair style I wanted and because my hair is fragile I asked which style is safe for my terribly thinning crown. I was assured that the style I picked (box braids) was best for me. The style requires more hair than usual be used to support the braid and the hair parted in a box. I asked while my hair was being done what the braids will look like and was told that my braid ( not my scalp) would look like the person next to me. They were not boxed braids, but they were slender, sleek and beautiful. I was excited. They were kind and thoughtful. Although my neck and shoulders hurt, I thought it was normal. I watched as no one walked out with boxed braids. Silly me, thought that it was not a popular style. Almost 5 1/2 hours later. I was shown my hair and although it was neat and beautiful as the others there were no boxes to be seen. My own hair disappeared under the weight if the extensions. I smiled warily and acted like I liked it. Im supposed to like it, right? But, its not me. I left the store frustrated and upset. I tried to love it but I cant. Its heavy, my head hurts. My back hurts. My arms hurt when I try to manage it. Its big and thick, unlike my own natural hair and I havent been able to sleep. Just a few tips for first-timers or if it has been a long time since you have had braids in your hair.1. Take 2 different pictures of 2 different styles2. Take some Tylenol or Motrin if you are not used to tight braids3. Stop them after a few braids are put it to make CERTAIN that the braids they are about to put in are the braids you want.4. Eat an hour before you go and bring a healthy snack: water, nuts, raisins, turkey sticks, fruit. You are already putting stress on your hair, dont compound your discomfort by putting stress on your body too.5. Be firm. If the hairdo is not going how you want it to please have the courage to leave. There are many braiding places that will give you exactly what you want for your hard-earned cash.I am beginning to like my hair and will eventually love it. I am concerned about the weight of the braids on the few strands of hair but I will find a place in a month or so to trim it down. LESSON LEARNED!

Waste my time driving there had to wait . 14 mile drive .I called before I went even asked the price. Got there the lady was just called .They keep saying she on the way she on the way . I just left . After 30 min wait . This was one of my favorite shop.What happen

Extremely disappointed! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! I spent $420 for my daughter and I, 2 different styles... Terribly done. Didnt even last a month, seriously.Two other people came in to complain about their hair too...but my head was already half way done. I recommend Miriams on Capital instead.

I have been bringing my girls every since we moved here in 2009. They have done both of my girls who are now 14 and 18 years of age. The service is defintely worth the money and the staff is excellent. I will always recommend to others to come here for service.

I have been there three times and each time I got exactly the hairstyle I wanted. They make sure not to braid too tight and dont damage my edges. There is usually a very short wait and they have even called in extra braiders to ensure the style was done correctly and in the promised amount of time. Everyone is very nice and they make you feel comfortable. I will always go here to get my hair done from now on.

This shop is ridiculous I guess it was the owner I showed her a picture of the hair style I wanted she said she could do it. I let her finish and I told her that I was unsatisfied with her work that it was not like the picture and I was ok with that and just wanted her to take it out. She insisted that it was the same and nobody else could do it. I told her I would just pay I told her that I had a card and she told me that her card machine didn’t work. I had some cash in my pocket and I gave her that. I told her I had to get the rest from the cash point outside and she proceeded to follow me outside. I gave her the money and she was still rude about it. Because it was her and her daughter and another lady I left someone else called on my behalf and how bad it looked and then she agreed to give me my money back. So, I go to the shop she starts taken it out and act like she was going to cut my hair so, my family member stepped in and helped her take it out so that wouldn’t happen. She then goes on to tell me she wasn’t giving me my money back if I didn’t give her a good review or take my bad one down and has her daughter checking to make sure I did. She handed me half my money back which was cool but, I DONT ADVISE NOBODY TO GO HERE she’s not good at braiding and She can NOT do feed in braids and while she’s doing your hair she ask can you give her a review of 5 starts.Stay AWAY FROM THIS PLACE ITS TERRIBLE and the good reviews they got is because she makes you give them one before she finishes the terrible mess of a hairstyle. And it’s the owner that does this

Wonderful Service ! I love coming to this shop after relocating from NJ. Amazing service and all the women who work here are very talented. Dont listen to any negative comments they are very wonderful at hair braiding and have amazing prices ! 5 stars!

Was told my hair was too short and my braids weren’t even in for a whole week before they started falling out. Multiple braids on a daily, even putting my bonnet on at night. Not satisfied at all.
