I began seeing Dr. Citron a little over 2 years ago when I was still sick and bedridden. I was unable to do very much and most of my time was spent in bed or lying down on the couch. I had seen other specialists, integrative doctors, and naturopathic doctors, but none of them dug deep to get to the root cause of my issues the way Dr. Citron did. What has impressed most about working with Dr. Citron is that he runs tests to look for things I have never heard mentioned from other doctors - either western, integrative, holistic or functional. As a result, he is able to diagnose issues at a very deep level and treat the root cause of chronic disease. In addition, I really appreciate that he focuses on all aspects of his patients health. Its not just about test results and prescribing supplements, but also about sleep, detoxing, stress management, and more. Dr. Citron understands that the WHOLE person needs to be treated. Ill be honest, I was a very complex case, having been diagnosed with over 18 conditions at one point in time or another while sick and bedridden. But with Dr. Citrons guidance, diligence and care, I am feeling better than I have in many years and am living a full, healthy and happy life again. When I found Dr. Citron, I was at a point of desperation and feared spending any more money on working with doctors who werent able to treat me and my complex conditions in a way that I knew I needed to be treated, but Dr. Citron has been able to do that and the money spent with him, on testing and supplements has been more than worth it. Another thing I really like about working with him is that he is willing to go at the pace that feels best to you. In addition, if you dont feel comfortable taking a supplement, he doesnt push you to take it. He has respected my fears about certain supplements and Ive eventually worked up to taking all of his recommendations - which have been helpful to my healing - because I am in such a better place physically now . He is the most brilliant doctor Ive ever met and I literally thank God for him and his staff. If no other doctor has been able to help you and/or you are suffering from debilitating health issues, I urge you to call him as soon as possible. The staff is terrific and does a great job helping me get answers to questions before and after visits (I often have several since I’m learning so much about my health). Sharon is a top notch coach and health guide.

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Citron for a couple of years now and he is by far the best and most thorough doctor we have ever seen. I was in search of a Functional Medicine doctor when I came across Foundation Med. I called the office and spoke with Kathleen, the office manager, who spent over an hour with me on the phone answering all my questions regarding the office and their scope of practice. I was very pleased with the personalized attention I received right from the very start which was different than my previous experiences with other offices. I booked my first appointment after careful consideration of all my options.During my first visit, Dr. Citron spent 2 hours taking a thorough intake of me, my family and medical history and all related factors that he thought would be relevant to my situation. From my perspective, Dr. Citron delivered helpful nutritional information, but it took him too long to provide hormone treatment (I waited 12 months) and the minuscule dose was too low. His discussion priorities seemed unbalanced: at the appointment Dr. Citron rushed quickly through the critical abnormal labs and other critical conditions yet spent too much time discussing the importance of body weight when I ALREADY HAVE A PERFECT BMI. It is admirable that his goal is to delve in depth into client history, but key points of my patient information were misplaced and he did not feel like he listened to my needs. I was on the wait list 6 months for my initial consult and after that I waited an additional 6 months to receive a treatment of hormone therapy. During the 12 long months of waiting for hormones from Dr. Citron, my body declined in health. I now have a higher dose of hormones from a doctor at another practice and have improved. Otherwise Dr. Citron and his staff are professional and friendly (Kelly is especially wonderful) and he selects excellent lab tests and knows lots of inside health tips and the office space is one of the most beautiful doctor office spaces I have ever seen.

Dr. Citron is the most thorough doctor Ive ever had, and Ive been to multiple conventional and functional medicine doctors over the past 4 years. He did not guess or make assumptions about my condition; instead he ordered labs to get more information. He is against trying things too invasive, and he worked with me to get the best care within my budget (which was very small). Also, all of the labs, prescriptions, and doctors notes are centrally located online, which is awesome for someone like me who does their own independent research. If you are interested in finding a unique and effective solution to your health issues instead of the common pill for every ill model of our current health care system, Dr. Citron and his staff are a great team to work with. Over the last few years through self education, I have learned that many of the health issues I was facing and that most of us face are symptoms of many underlying causes. I then became focused and even consumed with getting to the root causes of many of the symptoms I have experienced for years. This research led me to functional medicine, and eventually Dr. Citron. Dr. Citron and his staff listen intently and are more like a team of investigators than health care professionals. They work to uncover every stone and search out underlying health challenges that would otherwise likely go undiscovered by a traditional doctor. Dr. Citron is unique also in the fact that he has a background in traditional medicine and is not opposed to its use whenever it applies. Example - through testing he discovered a parasite infection that was at least contributing to many of my symptoms, and to my surprise he recommended an antibiotic. In the traditional medicine paradigm, I would most likely have been prescribed several prescriptions that would have addressed the symptoms I was experiencing, but would have left the main cause unaddressed. Kelly, is a health coach that will also work with you on any questions you have and will help you transform the majority of your health through diet/lifestyle changes. If you are looking for pain medicine because your foot hurts, this is NOT your solution. If you are looking for someone that is willing to take the time and cares enough to discover that your foot is hurting because you are walking with rocks in your shoes, and then hold your hand through the process of dumping the rocks out of your shoes and letting your feet heal on their own (or in some cases with the assistance of some natural supplementation/food/lifestyle changes), this is certainly the BEST place for you. I highly recommend this office. Joy is a true professional and is very responsive and nice to work with on the administrative side. Kelly is a top-tier health coach and is very responsive, professional and truly cares. When meeting with Dr. Citron, you feel like you are talking with a friend or family member who just happens to be a doctor. I am so lucky I found my way to Dr. Citron at Foundation Med. His approach to health is like no other provider I have every encountered. Thanks to him, I have restored my health and now enjoy life to the fullest.A few years ago I developed a serious immune disorder. I went from specialist to specialist, eventually being told that this illness would be life long, there was no known cure or treatment, just a heavy course of drugs to manage symptoms. I was told that a small percentage of patients do experience “spontaneous remission”. I was determined to be one of those people.When I arrived in Dr. Citron’s office, I was very sick and frightened. After taking a full health history, Dr. Citron recommended a number of lab tests that none of my other doctors were aware of. These revealed a number of underlying problems in my metabolism, a previously undiagnosed parasitic infection, and several other issues that we could work on to help me regain my health. My 1st appointment with Dr. Citron was 05/21/2014. After learning about functional medicine through Dr. Mark Hymans website & email newsletters, I searched for nearby functional medicine doctors for several years. I tried a Chapel Hill, NC functional medicine doctor, but didnt have a click with his approach (somatic visualization, etc.). He did more labs than my PCP, but didnt dig very deeply into the results. ----- Dr. Citron does dig deeply into the labs he suggests; the blood is drawn at a lab near his office. He suggested (he never forces any lab or treatment, rather slowly educates & discusses the current state of functional medicine thinking on the matter) I get some genetic testing. Turns out I have a homozygous methylation gene defect responsible for my reproductive history & life-long battle with depression. Dr. Citron is working with me using nutrigenomics supplements to address my gene defects & post-menopausal issues, etc. I do find it challenging to follow the organic chemistry involved in much of what Dr. Citron talks about & realize seeing a functional medicine doctor requires much more homework than American patients are accustomed to doing. I also find it challenging to keep up with understanding & ordering the supplements I take under Dr. Citrons recommendation. Despite the patient dedication necessary, I feel like Ive made progress on many fronts & uncovered answers to questions about my health no other medical practitioner Ive seen during my 64 years has been able to do. The care at FoundationMed has been extremely thorough and persistent. When others were quick to diagnose and dish out medicine, Dr. Citron dug in deeper to find the root of the problem rather than settling for treating the chronic symptoms.
