I chose this location even though there are dozens of dentists and orthodontists in the area. I scheduled an orthodontist appointment 5 months back because I was told they have limited availability when they are able to be at the office. I received a confirmation call a day prior to my appointment. The appointment was at 7:15 am. Being that this was an early appointment I had to move my schedule around, not a problem, miss some time from work and have my wife change her schedule around as well so we were able to bring our child to school. I arrived at 7:00 a.m. continuously checking the main entrance that remained locked as I watched employees move about inside. At 7:40 a.m. I called the office and was transferred to the customer support line and was put on hold. A few minutes later I was told there was a scheduling issue and asked if I would like to reschedule… I don’t mind waiting but I did not receive a courtesy call notifying me or a call apologizing for the mix up. I will not be going back nor giving any sort of recommendation. Thank you for the wasted time.

We absolutely love the entire team here! We have been coming as a family for years (also to the sister office Every Kids) and they have always worked with us to figure out the best care plan for our familys needs. They have taken great care of us through years of work, from basic cleanings to dental surgeries, all with comfort and understanding beyond any office I have visited before. They are always honest and helpful and we cant imagine any office taking better care of patients.

I tried to write out my whole story but exceeded the character limit. Let me paraphrase by just using some key words. On the adult side of the practice, lacks empathy and professionalism. Absolutely no communication between the staff to the point where I have to re-explain my ongoing issue EVERY time Im there. Appointments end up missing from the calendar. Equipment is old, outdated, yellow and unclean. Staff is condescending. On the pediatric side, the staff is wonderful. Still the same old and outdated equipment, but nice people. Unfortunately, since I was screamed at in the lobby yesterday by the office manager, I had to cancel any upcoming pediatric appoints as well because Im so incredibly embarrassed to have been treated the way I was. So much so, that I had a full blown panic attack in their lobby after being screamed at, was shaking uncontrollably and could barely walk out of the office. So if youd like your dental health and mental health jeopardized, this is your place. If not, Id steer clear.

When we needed to switch Dentists approximately 10 years ago, I interviewed the dentist offices I was interested in going to. By far, Dr. Jarvis with Foothill Smiles was head and shoulders over any other office I called. We have NEVER regretted making the move to Dr. Jarvis’ practice and everyone I recommend him to are also pleased.Having a filling and new crown all done in one day (less than three hours) is a bonus. His assistant Bree is the best!

I love the positive energy of the staff at Foothills Smiles Dentistry. Dr. Jarvis is friendly, patient, and gentle. It is obvious that he cares for his employees, patients, and community.Katie in the front office welcomes you, and puts you at ease as you are checking in. She is very thoughtful when scheduling, and I am always able to get my appointments at times that work best for me. I look forward to seeing her-who can say that about going to the dentist?Justyne is the most amazing hygienist! She is passionate about her profession, and she educates me about best practices to keep my gums and teeth healthy. I share all I learn from her with my 2nd grade students.Going to the dentist was always stressful and caused me anxiety, but I no longer feel that way as a patient at Foothills Smiles Dentistry.

So first off. The Front ladies are AWESOME. Very patient and informative. was able to be seen on an exam basis for a dental emergency and that went smoothly. The exam went ok. Pretty routine. Free exam and X-rays. Queue the ominous Music. Once I sat down with the dentist and he went over what was needed things....changed. I sat down with the OM and discussed a bridge. and the amount needed was acceptable to me HOWEVER another issue popped up and the discussion went to a partial. with a drastically lower price that looked very appealing and and would cover TWO teeth. so I decided to go the partial route. called back to confirm appointment and was told that there was no info for partial and was only showing for a bridge for one tooth. at the higher price, even though the partial was agreed upon and for two teeth. So there is nothing I can do except sit here in pain and take the antibiotics while I find another office that seems less sketchy. thats the only experience that Ive had for this first time visit, but I honestly couldnt recommend this place based on this. I waived other appointments based on the information i was given from this place. It feels like it was a bait-n-switch opportunity. but not surprising for a for-profit office. the office staff rocks, but other than that...I cant really recommend this place.

Friendly staff. I get real turned off by doctors who do not take cleanliness seriously. The rooms do not have sinks and the dentist will leave one room and immediately go to next room and grab and put on gloves. If they are going to be in anyones mouth, they should wash hands after each patient then put on gloves. Grabbing gloves w/out clean hands defeats purpose. Also watched one associate while i was waiting, sanitize the pad they use on outside of xray room after each patient but the other associate after taking xrays did not wipe the pad after doing xrays on their patient. Heard them tell another customer they have a 10 minute late policy yet everytime i have been there on time, i have had to wait 20-30 minutes. picture that

We have been taking our daughters to this practice for years and smooth sailing. Today my 16yr old daughter needed an onlay done and got very anxious about getting the shot to numb the area. The dentist told her that the shot would be a pinch and then feel like a bee sting for a couple of minutes. Who says something like that? She freaked and needless to say we were out of there and now looking for another dentist. Now I have to unwind from my daughters head that when another dentist attempts to give her a local that it wont feel like a bee stung her in her mouth. Unreal!

Im pretty shocked to see this place not have 4 or 5 star reviews. I guess people are more likely to review bad experiences. I had a great experience with Dr. Jarvis. If my interaction with him and the front desk I would have given 5 stars. They were very personable and professional. I removed a star because the hygienist made a comment about how my gums will feel better when I start flossing daily and get into the habit of it. Meanwhile I floss obsessively.. I had just damaged my gums with a bad electric toothbrush.

I went here about 2 years ago and the dentist told me I had decay on many of my teeth and that I needed over $1,000 in periodontal treatments in addition to large cavities that needed to be filled. The dentist refused to do a regular cleaning on me. Anyhow, I moved out of state and just found a private dentist practice to go to. He said my teeth are overall healthy and I dont have any gum disease or anything related issues that would justify me starting deep cleaning treatment. He said I do need a good regular cleaning but one I start going to the dentist regularly that I will get back on track with everything. The dentist office that I am going to now said that unfortunately there a lot of dental practices will put you on treatment plans you dont need for the money.

Repost from my Yelp from 11/2016This will be my first review ever but well worth the time to let you know to NOT go to this dentist. I originally chose this dentist as it was right by my house and I just wanted a teeth cleaning as I was pregnant and wanted to make sure all was well with my teeth. Upon getting my teeth cleaned they told me I had a couple cavities and let me know about their convenient dental plan as well as if I donated to the charity they sponsored I would get a further discount, in which I did.I scheduled my cavities to be filled with Jennifer L. Wells and received fillings in June 2016. Over the next two months I observed that my gums were not healing, the fillings did not feel smooth and I was experiencing some sensitivity. I called to get in and have my teeth looked at and the night before I went in I noticed one of the cavities was not even adhered to my tooth, it was literally a flap I could move.Jennifer L. Wells did admit that the cavities did need to be redone and that these type of cavities were more difficult. (Sorry in my opinion you have a dental practice and this should be a routine cavity procedure). I gave the benefit of the doubt and gave her the opportunity to fix them. Also I had already dropped $800 for this and felt it should be done correctly. I was always pleasant to the dentist and staff as they were always nice to me and I never once brought up money. After the second attempt to correct my fillings they were still bothering me and my teeth became even more sensitive. Eating was unpleasant and my teeth were now consuming my everyday life. Jennifer wanted to speak with her colleagues and see what could be causing my bite to be sensitive when I had no issues before. I went back in for a third numbing and filling where she removed the incorrect fillings again and replaced them. At this point I am sure damage was done from the amount of times my teeth were drilled and refilled. After the third time she had me see the Periodontist since my gums were still not healing. He did not see need for surgery to fix the gums and just advised me to give it some time. I made a follow up appointment with Jennifer as my teeth were still sensitive. Specifically I had one tooth where she missed putting some filling over that is exposed and my teeth were now discolored, she said she could fix those issues. She then had her nerve specialist come in and do a test in which then I was told I would actually need to do root canals on those teeth followed by crowns that would be around $4200! They would give me $250 off since I had gotten the fillings, so generous. At this point I was in tears and now in my third trimester. They were ready to set this appointment up for me and i thought they were out of their minds! I am not doing this procedure so close to giving birth and had lost any trust I had in them already. When I asked Jennifer what I should do about the tooth that was still exposed she told me to be careful when I floss since it was sensitive. Well I am sure she did not want to fix it now that they are trying to recommend root canals instead!I asked for copies of my xrays and notes from my visits there. This was the most stressful part of my entire pregnancy and I wish I never stepped foot in that office! I am now waiting until January after I have my baby to see a holistic dentist that I can get an opinion from and still have to pay more money to get this issue fixed. Save your money and go elsewhere and get a second opinion!!!February/2017Update...I recently went to a new dentist and got new x-rays. I do not need two root canals! Saved myself $5000. Previous dentist recommended root canal without doing additional x-rays. The only thing I need to do is still get my fillings redone properly. Always get a second opinion!!

I didnt want to post this bad review. However after looking at the other reviews my experience was similar. The bottom line is they are there to make Money. You are an after thought and when you call them on it they will go out thier way to be disrespectful. They have some great people but its the business model of making money that has ruined it for me.My experience was that my son had an appointment scheduled to do a simple cleaning. They called me weeks before on two different occasions to remind me that he had an appointment with them. Then the day of his appointment they called me and informed me that there was going to be a copay of $95 because my insurance was no longer accepting him to go to the kids side because he aged out. That he would need to reschedule and go to the adult side on another day. The problem with that was that I took time off work and I made schedule so I can go ahead and take my son that day and I feel that they should have paid the co-pay for their oversight. However they didnt want to do that and when I called them on it they decided to be arrogant and disrespectful to me. I spoke with Janaya first and her manager Sonia both of which left mine too be desired as far as customer service and empathy for wasting my time. I dont plan on going back. There are too many dental offices that I can choose from that are trying to make a dollar vs actually catering to your needs.Wow I didnt expect to write a novel. Well if you finished this smash the like button and get a smoothie on you of course.

I gave 2 stars only because Dr. Shannon Wenaas is an excellent dentist and deserves 10+ stars but the office staff is terrible. I’ve never dealt with such rude and incompetent people. I was told by their “billing specialist” that my insurance is in network, yet given out of network prices. Come to find out, they’re out of network.I waited on hold 4 different times, 35, 22, 42 and 62 minutes trying to make an appt. Each time the voicemail came on and I left messages, never to have my calls returned. I filled out a contact me form on the website (as suggested by their voicemail), never to be contacted. The doctor herself contacted me to schedule when she hadn’t heard from me (I am a previous patient of hers at a former office) she explained there is a new phone system and that might be why. I was more than understanding and waited for a call back from the front desk/scheduling. The front desk lady called back to get me scheduled. She immediately said there were no messages from me and didn’t know why I told Dr. Shannon that. When I explained the messages and wait times, she told me that there was no way that was true and that they always pick the phones right up. I explained that it was true and she told me that I had to be calling the wrong phone number. I pulled my phone records and proved my claim to be true, wait times, correct phone number etc, yet never received a call apologizing for her literally claiming it wasn’t true and one of the rudest representatives that I’ve ever dealt with.I was told by the “billing specialist” that she would call me back the next day regarding putting $500 down and setting up a payment plan for 3 months, yet she didn’t call back and left no notes in my chart. When I called back the office manager said she wasn’t available and didn’t know who I had talked to. Several minutes of explanations later, the initial billing specialist came to the phone and informed me of a different story and denied ever telling me that she would call me back.I cancelled my appointment with the best dentist I’ve ever had, due to out of network benefits because my in network benefits are so much better. However, if I didn’t know Dr. Shannon and had to deal with these girls (front desk and billing) I would’ve chosen another practice immediately. In no way, shape or form, do I recommend this practice.Dr. Shannon however is an excellent dentist who will spend quality time to get the job done right.

The TL;DR - Avoid Foothills Smiles and Orthodontics and Dr. Jarvis at all costs! On May 2, 2019, my wife and I would definitely NOT recommend this office and Dr. Jarvis. My wife went for a routine exam, was told she needed both a filling and a crown on separate teeth. The filling went OK, but then they upsold her on a better crown with a 5 year warranty. She had to spend a total of 7 and a half hours at the office with our 5 year old daughter! Why? Read on...They made the first crown after imaging and waiting about an hour. The assistants put the first crown on, but Dr. Jarvis checked it and didnt like the way it fit. He wanted to put a second one on, but they had to make a new one. Each wait time was 45 minutes to do the imaging. The second one was fit by the assistants again, it seemed to be fine, but Dr. Jarvis came in like a bull in a china shop, set it, the cement hardened and THEN he didnt like it. They had to grind the cement off and take the 2nd crown off. Our daughter was getting hungry, so she took some time to get her lunch nearby while they made the THIRD crown. After she got back, they did more imaging and then when she sat down, Dr. Jarvis checked my tooth, hit it with a blast of air which was extremely painful and set the third one. By this time it was after 2pm. Her appointment started at 7:30!Afterwards, they charged us $822 for the services (this included a $150 fee for making the crown in office that they did not tell her about). My wife asked for a discount based on her poor experience, but they refused. I went after work to discuss her poor experience with them. Dr. Jarvis reviewed all the x-rays with me and explained why he had to replace the 2 crowns, which he didnt charge us for.I asked for a discount or something, but he and the office manager, Chad, while apologetic, refused. Dr. Jarvis offered $100 off a TMJ splint that my wife needed that they normally charge $300 for. I refused. We found a great one on Amazon for $100.We filed a complaint with the corporate office who promised to call back. They didnt. We filed a complaint against them with our dental insurance. Nothing else could be done. All I can do now is warn anyone else who is searching for a new dentist to NOT GO TO FOOTHILLS SMILES.

This place has several times up sold my wife in procedures not needed. Quite often our insurance would cover specific types of procedures however they will upsell another procedure where they can charge more money but not tell you about the one insurance charges nothing for. We will be finding another dentist from this point on.

Terrible on multiple occasions.I came in after work one day with my toothbrush and asked for toothpaste. They told me they were fresh out. Then, I received the most painful cleaning Ive ever had, during which the hygienist broke my permanent retainer then argued about it... I ended up having to come back to get a new retainer since this one painfully poked my tongue for days. I was charged $200, AND had to drive 45 mins to the Queen Creek location since they had no openings for weeks. This place is covered by my insurance, and the Ahwatukee location is convenient, so I continued to try and go back. I attempted to replace my top retainer (since mine was old), and they scheduled me in the morning (since I communicated that I had work all day). I waited 30 mins, only to be told that I had to come back for a fitting the same day or would be charged if my teeth moved at all (I WORK) - I was urged to come another day. I ended up going to another dentist and paying $100 for a retainer. THEN, 6 months later when I simply tried to come in again for a cleaning, they lost my freaking appointment!Im not one to write a nasty review, but Ive been burned one too many times by this place. Ill happily pay another dentist out of pocket so that I never have to come back here.

We went here for a few years only because they were in our dental network and close to our house. The staff and the dentist engage in very hard-line selling tactics, everything is an opportunity to up-sell you in the newest product or gimic. Very frustrating when all I want is to get my teeth cleaned! They also told my husband he needed $6,000 in root canals when in fact our new dentist confirmed that no root canals were needed. We reported the incident to our dental insurance. Not an ethical practice (albeit very nice people): STAY AWAY.

Highway robbery, steer clear PLEASE! This place has to be committing fraudulent crimes when billing insurance and the patient. Double billed more than one time, and the costs to do work there are out of this world expensive. Luckily I have found another dental practice, without knowing any of this the prices they quoted me for the same work was 25% of the cost that foothills smiles wanted to charge.

Sorry to say Dr Jarvis’s assistant hurt me very badly. He stood over me and with all the pressure he had he put the tool between my tooth and gums to place the thread in preparation for a crown. He didn’t place the thread, he dug down and held it there for several seconds then moved the tool all around the tooth probably eight more times to press it down. That crown was done 1/11/18 and it’s now 2/29/18 and my tooth and the one next to it still hurt. I have had constant headaches on same side of head where work was done. I had a brain mri to rule out a tumor. There’s no tumor. So did Dr. Jarvis bruise my trigeminal nerve? It was a bad painful shot. When I went back in complaining Dr Jarvis and his endo doctor said the tooth is dying. Dr Jarvis showed me the film from 1/11 and compared it to 2/1 one being a clean white root and second with black line around roots.I asked for my films today to take to an outside endo guy and the film that shows the root has been deleted now that was taken on 1/11. Not ethical. This is trauma induced. There’s no decay or abscess. Why do dentists hand off so much of their work to assistants that have little education to do dental procedures? Very disappointed. I need a root canal and if the tooth is cracked it will have to be removed. This is a followup on 9/12/19. It took three months for my jaw and tooth to stop hurting. As it turns out the third crown replacement would not stay on because the dental assistant ground the tooth down almost to the base of the gum line so there’s little for it to adhere to so it has been left off now for months per my new dentist’s advice since there is nothing more he could do. There is no decay. It was trauma induced.Well now the tooth the assistant hurt is dead. Its gray. I went to an oral surgeon today and he said it is dead and cracked and has to be extracted.Brandon/Jose you deliberately dug down past the gum line to put the thread on in prep for another crown and applied so much PRESSURE that the oral surgeon said it is cracked. Now this 69 year old woman has to endure an extraction. Shame on you. You are a menace to society with an evil heart and Dr. Jarvis obviously doesn’t care as you are still employed.May 25, 2020. Sequel: One tooth went gray died and had to be removed because of Brandon/Jose’s deliberate trauma. Now the one next to it which incurred the trauma when he dug down between both teeth Is bothering me more everyday. Thanks Jose. You may have killed two of my teeth instead of just one. I saw my dentist. There’s no decay so I guess I’m just waiting for it to turn gray and die like the other one. I can’t afford to get a post and new tooth or teeth so this 70 year old is feeling worn out can’t chew one one side three meals a day and abused. You have caused me so much anguish and discomfort to this day. Dr. Jarvis and assistant I hope you get yours. There is order and fairness to this universe and what goes around comes around in time.

I want to share that i am highly disappointed and frustrated with the services provided.i went in November 11th for a cleaning sms xray. it had been 3 years.the front desk girl was not friendly at all (she was also the same lady who gave me the prices and treatment plan)xrays were quick but the lady doing mine wrote something on a sticky and handed it to the doctor? right infront of me hiding what sge wrote which I found extremely rude!!Once the doctor came in he told me i had no cavities but highly recommended removing my wisdom teeth because he could see cavities starting and would not give me a orthodontics referral without removing them.he also told me i needed a deep cleaning on my teeth (i had gotten the same cleaning their 3 years prior for $198 total)the front desk lady tells me the cleaning will be $1100!!!!!I have no cavities and have a small build up on my lower front teeth but thats all.she also informed me the wisdom teeth extractions would be around $800!!!that they couldnt do anything for me that day without getting the deep clean on my teeth and scheduling the tooth extraction ( the other dentist there 3 years prior told me that my wisdom teeth were not any issue)i was so upset. I wasted almost 2 hours for nothing.insane pricing. service was poor. the dentist was not kind. he truly just wanted to be doing something else. I do not reconnected this location. I go on and on about how horrible they were to my 6 year old as well when he was a patient 3 years ago. I moved him to another dentist and stayed but will not go backi have seen a new dentist since then. cleaning for my teeth was $150 and $400 for the extractions on my wisdom teeth.please do your research. they will treat you bad and scam you

My husband went in for a painful tooth. Well rather than doing a root canal and crown that visit they drilled as close as they could then sent him away. My husband was in so much pain he had to go to urgent care because they didnt turn their phone lines over to answering service so we couldnt get the Dr on call. We payed $500 out of pocket for this dental visit. They had him come back the next day and see a different dentist because the one he saw doesnt do root canals. Plus they charged us anothet $500, (he should have seen this dentist in the first place rather than the other dentis messing around) Now we are out $1,000 for what should have been done the first visit. We still had a small balance of $143 we couldnt pay so they set us up on a payment plan of $25 a month. Well they somehow screwed that up. They still havent figured out how they screwed it up. I tried calling them like 5 times to get it straightened out. They said somebody would call me back. You guessed it, nobody ever called me back. So of course lo and behold I get a nasty letter saying you will be sent to collections. I called them and they said I need to come in to sign for payment arrangements, what happened to the last payment arrangement??? They dont know what happened to it. (I live 30 min away) Then they procede to tell me I owe $199....for what I asked.....why the $56 difference?? The girl cant tell me. I am so upset and frustrated and it is not easy to upset me. I have also used their pediatric dentistry side and same issues with billing. My insurance says I owe them one ammount and then the office are saying, oh no you owe us more because of...blah, blah, blah. Every time it is never what the insurance says we owe it is always more. I am so done with this office. Do NOT go there. They are nice and friendly but horrible otherwise. It is like getting stabbed with a knife by somebody smiling. So not worth it.
