The gym itself is fine and clean, but the billing/management is as bad as they come. had to go in to speak with a manager in person (during covid) to cancel my membership after they had charged me for some months i was set to skip and fees they promised to waive. they issued me a refund for those fees and canceled my membership though it took 2 visits and nearly a month for me to actually receive my refund after they ‘issued’ it. now 4 months after i cancelled AND a new credit card (i lost and cancelled the card they had on file) i get another charge from them. finally resorted to putting a block from them from my bank’s side. not worth getting involved with this gym

Ive been a member here since moving to Philly in 2004. The current new management team is terrific, especially the manager, Mike, who addressed my issue regarding TVs not working properly quickly and very efficiently. Getting pros like Mike running this gym was long overdue, and Im very glad that he and his team are taking all the right steps to make this a great location to work out!

I’ve been using the Sports Club as my go-to travel gym when in Philly and it is by far my favorite gym in the city! The front desk staff is very polite and able to answer any and all questions I’ve had.In terms of equipment it’s very easy to use and still in very good condition. The cleaning staff does a very good job moving through the areas and keeping the place clean even with all the hub-bub from a lot of people working out at the same time. 5/5 stars and I can’t wait to come back here again!

Very nice and well maintained gym, but I especially love the outdoor pool here! Its a little oasis in the city surrounded by residential buildings. It gets plenty of sun in the afternoon which is great for working on my tan, but there are also areas with shade. Everyone who patrons is respectful and the staff is friendly and helpful. The facilities are always very clean too. Its a little far from my house in Point Breeze but its totally worth the trip!

My first visit back to the club in two years while in town visiting my parents and I was thoroughly impressed with the service and friendly professional staff at the front desk. The new owners are obviously putting a lot of effort in upgrading the facilities. We were there to use the pool which was absolutely wonderful and refreshing. I have a lot of memories of the pool from my childhood as it was were we spent some of our summer days 40 years ago and it did not disappoint. I wish them the best of luck getting back into full swing as we pull out of the pandemic.

I am a long time member of this club and it has gone downhill since the reorganization. They dont communicate with members as they used to and there is rarely a manager on the premises. They dont have towel service because supposedly some members have objected to it because of COVID. The guys I know there laughed at this excuse. Its obviously for cost cutting purposes. At least two other gyms in the area have towel service and I am canceling PSC and going to join one of them. The company has gone through managers at least once a year. What does this say about the company that was bankrupt and then supposedly improved by a new organization.

I joined this club for the pool, for the summer. The pool itself is clean and has a large deep end - I loved it.But -There are only ladders for getting in and out. Not the best for an elderly person with bad arthritis. The pool deck is littered with broken chairs and various pieces of equipment lying around. There is very little shade available - until the sun disappears behind the buildings and then there’s too much shade. The pool isn’t heated, which I was aware of, but because of the way the sun disappears the water is way too cold. There were many days this summer when the temps were in the nineties, but the water was in the seventies. Too cold! Some of the staff aren’t vaccinated, and I didn’t feel comfortable using the inside facility knowing that. The parking garage is a nightmare. If I’d thought to check that out before I joined I never would have joined. I drove around for a half hour looking for parking. It’s hard to find the PSC area. The condo buildings nearby use the same garage and they have most of the area. The garage isn’t well signed. And to get to the PSC you have to walk up a long driveway. If you’re young, have no physical issues, don’t mind sitting in the blazing hot sun when you’re not in the water, and don’t care about the risks of COVID when you’re using the locker rooms, etc, then I’d recommend it.For me, I won’t be joining again next summer unless they make a few improvements. So disappointed.

I have been a member of this gym going on 7-8 years now. I have seen management come and go but can stay without hesitation that the most recent manger, Ryan Curran is why I stayed and will continue going back. I had several questions and concerns during the gym’s closure period, and Ryan has personally engaged with me every single time. He’s straight forward, helpful, friendly and very professional which you don’t always get from a gym or sports club management. Ryan values his members and his pleasant demeanor will keep people coming back. PSC is a neighborhood place and people in this community want to support it. If the stake holders at PSC are reading this, you have a great team member that is working diligently to keep this place going so make sure your recognize Ryan and his team. This review is more of Ryan than the actual facility. Ive had an issue with a cancelation that didnt go through, admittedly mostly because I didnt follow up to make sure it was official a few months ago, and Ryans professionalism and helpfulness made all the difference. When I discovered that my membership was still on for a few months, I made the phone call dreading the conversation, given how notorious all gyms are for making cancellations a hell.I was in disbelief at how easy Ryan made the process. He promptly asked me a couple of questions to make sure he implements improvements to the gym and took care of a pending balance that accumulated outside of my knowledge. No defensiveness, no cancellation fees, no you have to pay some balance first no but you have to come here in person and fill out these forms...etcRyans attitude alone will make me consider going back to PSC if I ever need a gym membership in the area again.

I signed up for PSC thinking it would be an affordable, neighborhood fitness option at $26/month. The facilities are just okay (meager weight options, facilities were often a little dirty, the air conditioning/heating frequently went out), though I was willing to overlook some of this given the pool was nice and it was decently cheap, after all.Trying to cancel the membership and avoid unnecessary charges has been challenging. The website doesnt make it easy to even figure out their cancellation policy, and I ended up googling how to go about cancellation. After a discussion with a PSC representative back in August, I recently checked my credit card statement and found charges the last several months, including months when the pandemic was raging in April, despite getting slapped by the courts for doing so.All-in all: the gym offers OK equipment for cheap. PSC corporate is shady though, and the customer service isnt great, so beware.

This is the worst gym Ive experienced, on any level, in my life. They deceptively market (dishonest with rates/promos), bill incorrectly, and generally have no decent standard of doing business. The equipment is of poor quality, old, and the space feels cramped. This I can deal with, though difficult to justify value in this gym at the price. What I consider intolerable is when I come to workout over my lunch-break, and the WHOLE LOCKER ROOM is closed. I cant change or shower? Stow my belongings? What kind of gym is this? Since I cant use the gym, maybe I should not get billed? I get fed up with things like this (in a short span of < 3 months) and try to cancel. I go through the song and dance of filling out and dropping off the form in person. I do not get a notice of cancellation until several days later. Turns out, a notice of cancellation is not enough to cancel. You have to provide written notice AND THEN wait for them to get to it (timeline seems to be at their discretion) before the 45-day (also on the high end of cancellation notices) period for billing to cease. If the area this gym occupied was a crater instead, the world would be a better place.

Review №46

Beware. The PA Attorney Generals website reports they have been tagged for refusing to honor cancellation and freeze requests or imposing onerous fees and conditions on such requests. Absolutely this is a problem, and just one of many problems. I used their own website cancel membership submission form online to notify them months ago that I was canceling. Now they are still charging me fees. I went in person to ask why and they stated that they do NOT honor their own website cancel membership message system! I had to fill out a paper form in the gym. [Note: no cleaning of the pen they handed me, no hand sanitizer anywhere in sight at the desk.] Now by telephone they say that they will not accept my prior online cancellation request on their own website form. They refuse to stop charging my credit card. Even after I filled out their paper form in their own office and handed it to them, now they are even charging me a annual renewal fee! Absurd. I have had to notify my credit card of unauthorized withdrawals. Shady business. I did not cancel originally because of Covid, but because this is an old and dark gym with poor ventilation in the spinning room, and the womens locker room was never remodeled after shutting it down for months in order to give the men a locker room during their locker room renovation. Plus, they make you pay extra to do laps in the pool, then when you do pay for the pool it is mostly a splash area with little options for actual exercise use. They went back on promise after promise. Just say NO.

The staff are always very nice and helpful and the members draw from all demographics. I found this psc location to have a comfortable atmosphere with respectful members and have been very happy here!*there are a lot of negative reviews on here about the locker room closures during 2019 renovations but no one mentioned that during that time we were given tons of advanced notice and communication about the days when locker room access would be limited AND our memberships were upgraded to include access ALL regional clubs (philly, NY & DC)

After over 8 attempts and 2 months of one-sided conversations (emails, phone calls, in-person complaints) and no follow ups I still have not received a refund. This lack of communication reflects disorganization and poor management- its not worth it!The facilities themselves have the standard equipment and are fine but not great. Again, there was poor communication when I signed up for the gym. This is the first gym Ive ever belonged to and I couldnt be happier with it. Im a pretty skinny guy, and while Ive always been interested in getting in better shape and putting on weight, the whole gym culture thing seemed too intimidating for a newcomer to throw him/herself into. But when I finally decided to try it out, the 30-minute free personal training session turned out to be extremely helpful and the trainer gave me the confidence and direction I was looking for. I havent looked back and that was a little more than two years ago.Ive seen some reviews saying that its too crowded and theres only one pair of dumb bells. This simply is not true. There are (at least) three separate racks of dumb bells, not even including the long row of heavier ones for the more serious bodybuilders. Also, just this past Sunday around noon I literally had an entire section of the gym to myself. And Im not talking about the less-popular third floor, but the second floor area with the multiple squat racks. I have never had a problem finding space here on the weekends. Yes, on weeknights between 5:30-7:30 there can be a lot of people, but Id like to see a gym in the city where that isnt true. I doubt you can find one unless you have a private gym in your residence. One last thing... when I first started going here I ran into a minor celebrity from the Food Network coming out of the locker room. I said to him, Chef, what brings you here? and all he said was this is the best gym in the city. I found out he does a lot of charity work in this area so I dont think he was just blowing smoke.

This is basically a scam. The gym is small and offers very basic amenities. Not much stretching room and the machines are dated. The pool is not accessible to basic members also so don’t expect it (they don’t tell you that though!) the dressing room is tight and hard to maneuver. The bathrooms are hardly stocked with napkins or anything like that. Also when you realize the scam of a gym it is, the cancelation process costs you 10 extra dollars just to cancel and you also still have to pay the next month and 45 days after. So remember: ‘even when you stop going to the gym, they still charge you for a month and 45 days :) they just keep taking right out of you bank account with no explanation or -warning-! And I get that this isn’t a big deal for some people but if your time and your finances are important to you, I’d stay away from this business. They’re unapologetic and make a fortune off of omitting information :)

The gym is great. But the staff at the front desk is the worst I’ve seen. And after seeing a 3.7 rating I’m not sure why the anyone hasn’t done anything to fixed it. The staff NEVER say hi, and are SUPER unpleasant. If I had known the unpleasantness of this staff, I don’t know if I would have joined. I have to speak to the manager in a a few days to discuss something about my account and I will make sure I will bring this up because their front desk staff is ridiculous.

Good quality for a low budget city gym/outdoor pool. Capital improvement could be better/more often but then that is counter-intuitive to keeping costs low. All in all, a decent deal.

This is a very average gym, I see lots of reviews about unfriendly staff which I find completely untrue. I know most of the names of the front desk workers and they know mine. I see lots of comments about over charging which is also untrue, they were very upfront with me about cancelation policies and that I would need to cancel 2 months in advance. The gym is never too busy on weekdays and you can always find the cardio equipment youre looking for. Sometimes the weight room is a bit of a mess but hey, maybe your mother should have raised you to put back your stuff and not rely on other people.

Hands down the worst gym Ive ever been a member of. The greater majority of the staff is standoffish and rude. They will not listen to your complaints or requests, they just do not care. That part MIGHT be excusable, as this issue seems to be more so a product of my generation rather than specific to this facility. The members have no gym etiquette, whatsoever; and that extends to the personal trainers that this gym has contracted in, who wont bat an eye at consistently taking equipment away from you while youre still using it. Not to mention the obscene amount of distraction that these guys provide to gym members who would prefer to focus on their own personal fitness, rather than listen to someone from the second floor (who, mind you, is not even paying to use the gym) focus on theirs. This place is atrocious. A sin against humanity, really.Oh, and a ridiculous number of members have this weird obsession with taking their shoes & socks off while they work out. Its disgusting.

Saturday, 5/25/2019 the gym workers said the gym closed at 7 pm instead of 8 pm, which was listed on the door. I was told it’s the Memorial Weekend hours. What!?! There was no signs indicating different hours. I think someone wanted to go home early

I dont generally leave reviews but for this company I had to voice my experience. I also made a BBB complaint. First off, half of the treadmills are always broken down, so theres that. Its not the cleanest gym, and the sauna is always under renovations. These are all minor, however my issues come from the service of the location. The service is horrendous. When staff makes you feel like youre wrong to be a customer, what can you do? Dont even waste your time, just read how many people are saying the same thing here. Its just the reality, you have greater than a 50% change of hating this gym lol

Avoid this scam. This gym has fraudulently charged me over $200 since canceling my membership, with no refunds provided. They continue to charge my card even after repeated correspondences. Most recently, four months after cancellation, they charged me $70.Update: After multiple attempts at contact, no response and they continue charging my card.

To top it off they didnt let me use my training sessions from the precious month. I was simply away on vacation.Swine please open another place in neighborhood!

Definitely the nicest of the PSCs in the city. I have never been to the Radnor location, but have spent ample time time at each of the city locations and this one takes the cake. This location has 3 floors, which helps to ease the congestion one experiences in the free weight areas at Rodin Place and Market Street.

STAY AWAYI will start by saying that while I rarely write reviews, this place of business truly deserves one and should help to serve those seeking a gym in the Philadelphia area a nice outline for one that they should never spend money on.My girlfriend and I were members here for roughly 3 months after moving into Old City over the summer. The facility is pretty large with a good amount of machines, a nice open area on both the 1st and 2nd floors, and classes offered every day. The check in system was simple but not very thorough or welcoming as the attendants either seemed very overworked or uninterested in human interaction. And while I was okay with all of this (I just wanted to get my workout in and get home) the next experience here I definitely wasnt okay with. One night after a long day at work I entered the gym to grab a workout as I normally did during the week. I went to the locker room (which was basically empty aside from a gym employee wrangling the dirty towels) changed, and packed my work bag and clothes into a locker while securely fastening my normal lock. I left the locker room with my phone and headphones in hand for roughly an hour and a half paying no mind to my belongings as they were safe in my locker, or so I thought... I arrived to the locker room at around 8:15 pm to find the locker door of my locker completely ripped off of its hinges, my clothes strewn about the locker, and my bag weirdly zipped back up in a different manner than I had left it. Additionally, the lock was still firmly attached to the metal fastener and only the locker itself opened (which PSC is fully responsible for making sure to be in strong working condition).Immediately, I opened my bag to find $60 in cash missing as well as a new Stainless Steel Citizen Eco-Drive Watch also missing. The thief had pilfered items that were not easily traceable and left my clothes, laptop, work phone, and remaining items in my wallet.I approached the counter to speak with the GM, Edward Gonzalez, who I took to the locker, showed the damage to, and followed up on next steps to understand the gyms course of action. Ed relayed that they would need to launch an internal investigation and work to identify who the culprit may be. He noted that the gym did not have an internal camera system at any entrance of the facility and that they could not track any unauthorized perps who may have entered the locker room at any time unless they cross referenced their sign in list which is barely adhered to when entering the gym as it is. He promised that a new system was being priced within the next couple of weeks but how would that help me now? What was his solution to fixing this very glaring issue that the gym had which not only immediately affected me personally but could affect others in the future? He had no answer for that and instead urged me to stay in contact with him and make sure that I didnt bring valuables to the gym moving forward. Again, this was a very disconcerting answer given that I come directly from my office and would need to travel home before going to the gym which would add roughly a half hour to my already stretched schedule each night. Instead of adding additional work for your customers, ensuring their safety and piece of mind should be your top priority! All in all, Ed avoided my phone calls and emails for roughly 5 days after the incident with no update. I confronted him one night to understand what progress had been made at which point he hastily talked through the gyms liability policy and urged me to file a police report as they couldnt identify who did it and had no answers. My girlfriend and I cancelled our membership that night and figured to be completely done with the gym at that point, the police report was filed but to no avail. Just recently we received a bill for another month at the gym and are currently in a battle with corporate to make sure these charges are relinquished. Avoid this gym at all costs, they are poorly mismanaged and unsafe.

Im very active and prefer taking pilates classes than going to a regular gym. I decided to try this gym because of its location and proximity to my home and to supplement my other workouts. The classes offered here are hit and miss. There is not much space to work out as the gym is relatively small, and for the price, I am not sure if it is worth joining this particular gym. I prefer Yoga and would love for a gym to offer peak performance (machine) pilates classes consistently. I do not mind paying extra as long they have the proper pilates machines and certified trainers that get the best out of you.
