One of the BEST decisions that I had ever made in my life! My education and hands-on learning experience here at SMI were beyond my expectations in every aspects of my journey during my 600 hours of Aesthetics. I learned so much from each one of my instructors throughout my 9 month-program, they each had their own style of teaching, they were also all open to any questions I had in mind, and definitely accommodated to every single need of mine to ensure that I had comprehended all that was expected of me as well. I studied plenty for all my quizzes and exams, I did extremely well. I observed closely from all my instructors during theory and demonstrations in all that I could in every session along the way. I got the best education that I needed for the amount that I paid for, SO WORTH IT! I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN, in fact. Jackie has changed and still is changing the history and the lives of all students, many whom come across her know she is excellent and gives so much of herself to make sure that we are prepare for the beauty world and I take pride in knowing her. She is kind, compassion, strong, and most of all honest too. She has prepared me for the real world of aesthetics, and I am forever thankful for her time invested in my education and her time correcting me as I needed that because I only want to do better, be better, and know better. You get what you put in, and exactly what I got, nothing but greatness and I’m beyond excited for my future once I get my provisional/state license of AZ -I know I will go very far in this world. My passion has only begun, and I know there is more to come, I am so ready to learn more and keep taking ongoing educational classes as there is more to become certified in as well as do and gain even more knowledge under my belt to service/treat all areas of what this industry is all about. I am a recent graduate from the skin and makeup institute. Let me start off by saying Mrs. Jackie’s favorite quote “You will get out as much as you put in” and that is exactly right! I went in with one goal and one goal only, to become a licensed Aesthetician. And that is exactly what I became. Along the way I made some amazing forever friends. The curriculum was just right, I knew where to find the answers if I didn’t understand something. Don’t get me wrong like anything in life I experienced some ups and downs, but thankfully the ups definitely outweighed the downs. I didn’t give up on myself, and neither did the school. I cant believe I am sharing my favorite secret getaway. It is simply too great not to share with others. For over ten years I have been going to the Skin and Make up Institute for facials and other spa treatments. It is my twice a month gift to myself. Jackie, the owner/educator director is careful to assure that the students are well trained and prepared to provide a quality and relaxing experience. I appreciate that the educational staff checks in to assure the correct facial products are selected for my skin type. I can always count on the fact that a careful assessment on my skin has been reviewed prior to the service. The services are very reasonable priced and there is a wide variety to choose from. Its a perfect way to spend an hour!

I spent a lot of time doing research online and visiting different schools to decide which school was the best school to attend for my Aesthetics education and career. There were other schools that were much closer to where I live, but it became very obvious to me after visiting SMI, that this school was where I wanted to be and that this was the best place to start my new career. I have been interested and passionate about the Aesthetics industry for a very long time, so I was very diligent in making my decision on where to attend.I am grateful for all of the staff, they are always warm, welcoming and helpful. I want to give a big shot out to all of the instructors. Ms. Jackie, the owner, has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience. She is very passionate about her students and the education they receive. Ms. Karen, Ms. Deanna and Mr. Lee, are wonderful! Every one of them is extremely hands on, eager to help, compassionate and truly wants to see their students succeed.Included in our Aesthetics training, is several advanced training courses that you get a separate certification in.Ms. Jackie and the other instructors are always looking to see what is new and trending in the industry, so they can try to incorporate these products and procedures into our curriculum.If you are looking for a high quality education, from a school you would be proud to put on your list of accolades, then SMI is the one you want to go to.

I’m a former student who attended the makeup class. Absolutely the best decision I’ve ever made. I have nothing bad to say about anybody here because all the staff was very nice. I also had the blessing of having the best classmates and it was an honor having lee as our instructor. Very clean, friendly environment but I just wish for the cost there would be a bit more upgrading on the schools end. I wasn’t 100% satisfied with the kit we were given. I came in having some background in the beauty world so I know I didn’t get the best brushes, I had 2 break in class. The makeup box we were given, is one I already had and even with lock and key unfortunately still opened up a bit so I know it wasn’t the best. The chairs weren’t the safest since they were very wobbly. I also wish we would have learned special effects makeup for the price. this is a great school and I do recommend to anyone wanting to take Lee’s makeup class. He’s amazing! It’s fun, and he’s great at his teachings. Just know the school is on the pricey side, that’s the only reason I have it 4 stars.

The staff messed up our appointment at first, got the times wrong AND the actual service mixed up. The girls who did our makeup were very nice but the other girls who were in the room and watched us were very judgmental and it seemed very unprofessional. The actual staff that worked there, not the students, were sassy and had an attitude. But the male teacher who was helping the girls was very nice and talked with us the whole time, made us feel less like guinea pigs with the other girls staring at us. And the overall looks werent very great. Kind of disappointing.

Mrs. Jackie and the instructors were all amazing at teaching what they know best! AESTHETICS! They truly are masters of their craft, gifting us with the proper knowledge and experience to help us excel in the real world.

Honestly a joke of a school. You wont learn. I have over 6 different instructors. Why because the owner is so incredibly rude to everyone. She took my money and left me without an education. She then took more of my money and then claimed I never paid her. If you disagree with her she will just tell you to get out or hang up. She a child. Go anywhere else to get the education you pay for.

As a recent graduate from SMI, I have to say my experience was unpleasant for most of the time. Upon enrolling, the staff does a great job making the school seem as if SMI is the best place to be and a right fit for you. At a glance, I was taken back with the presentation of the school . However, once I officially became a student at SMI I realized how unorganized, uneducated, under-prepared, and unprofessional MOST of the staff truly is. There were nights when we would sit in the classroom for an hour or so waiting for a teacher to come in and start our theory lesson. There were other times when the teacher would skip over chapters and information because it was considered boring or too long. The teachers expect you, as the student, to remind them when you are supposed to take a test or an exam and if you dont your grade is immediately docked to an 80%. During my time at SMI, the students cleaned the steamers once, and not a time after that. I had clients complain of the steamers smelling like mold and fish, as well as the towels. I was a student who switched from being a night-time student, to a day-time student due to COVID. When I switched over, I was told by the owner that the steamers get cleaned at the beginning of every month. When asking other day time students if this was true, it became apparent that they had not cleaned the steamers for some time. When looking at the glass portion of the steamer, you can see corrosion on the metal piece and some sort of substance sitting at the bottom of the container.They give you all the supplies you need to start off, including facial products by BioElements. We were told that once we move from Mod 1 to Mod 2, that we would be able to experience and work with the other product they provided called Skin Scripts. However, once we moved over, we were not allowed to touch the Skin Scripts product unless it was for a paying client. We were not allowed to test the product ourselves, thus leading to not having the full knowledge/affect the product has. The owner keeps close tabs on everyone at all times, if your socks were showing and they were not white, grey, or skin colored you were sent home..thus leading to unexcused hours. If you had over 40 unexcused hours, you would then have to pay $20 per hour that was unexcused.School policy was to not have your phone on you throughout the duration of being there, and only to be kept in your locker, you could only go on your phone when on break. This I understand, I will admit to breaking this rule a couple of times while at my locker, as did most students. HOWEVER, I did not break any other rules, I kept to myself, caused no issues or drama. At my exit interview with the owner she was very pleased with my work and attitude as a student there. She even mentioned to me how she appreciated that I was not involved in any of the drama and that I was a good student and she was proud of me. I have no ill intent toward the owner, I am only speaking on what I know and my experience being there. Good students leave good reviews and bad students leave bad reviews as said by the owner... Im not sure whether you can consider this review good or bad, but the owner considered me as a good student. This school has great potential, and the curriculum is excellent. However, I will say that the approach of teaching this curriculum is poor. The staff is very laid back and not so worried about giving you all the knowledge and information on all the chapters we were supposed to learn. Everything was unorganized, there wasnt a day being there where someone knew what we were actually doing. I am grateful for being able to attend this school and I am EXTREMELY grateful for the friends I have met through this program. However, for the cost of SMI I feel like there could be a lot of improvement.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at SMI. The instructors, support staff, and students were extremely helpful and encouraging. I graduated with a very strong aesthetics foundation and several certifications from the extra classes SMI offers. Looking forward to my future in aesthetics!

This place is great! The pricing is affordable and my tech Misti was the best! She was very nice and informative, always telling me what she was doing and the benefit of the products. The environment was clean and calming, so I was truly able to relax. I definitely recommend Mistis services and will be returning for another facial and possibly additional services as recommended. I have told all my friends to book with her as I know they will not be disappointed!

I am so glad I chose this school. My instructors were great and very knowledgeable. The students I was with were friendly, helpful, and extremely supportive. I also highly recommend looking into their extra classes as they are extremely beneficial.

Best decision I ever made was coming to this school! The instructors really push you to do your best and you can tell they care about each student. The small class sizes make it easy for the instructors to give you that one on one teaching time to answer any questions you have! They also offer A LOT of continuing education classes! Ive done eyelash extensions, dermaplaning, Brazilian waxing and advanced peels and they were all amazing and beneficial! Go to this school if you are serious about aesthetics!

Went to the skin and makeup institute to use their spa services, specifically to purchase their Essentials Package. It was awesome. Apparently they are under new ownership now and they have completely restaffed. Their spa is beautiful, relaxing, and the gal that gave me a massage and applied my European facial was very professional. I would recommend the Skin and Makeup Institute to any of my friends and family. Very clean, very relaxing and very professional.

I am a former student of the Skin & Makeup Institute. The education was good; the tuition however, does not include a few major classes the school charges extra for. Any chance the school can make a profit off of you, they will. Ms. Jackie, the director/owner of the school, treats everyone like garbage - including her employees. She singles students out and belittles them. I constantly felt like I was walking on egg shells around school. The experience would have been much more enjoyable if, as a student, you were treated with more respect. I’ve also seen shady things happen while attending school: A students skin care product was broken while she was not present. The school tried to cover the situation by replacing it with a quarter-full product. They also forged her initials on the bottle as if it had never happened. Things like this were all too common. Please do extensive research when deciding which school to attend.

I am a student at The Skin and Makeup Institue. I am very happy happy that I chose this school. The students are friendly and all very eager to learn. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and have a ton of experience! I am treated like an adult and also expected to act like. This is crucial in preparation for a career. I have found all the instructors to be approachable and genuine. The school was also very accommodating to my schedule which is very busy as a mom. I know with out a doubt I have been prepared for a career in aesthetics. My experience is the full service spa there had and will continue to be invaluable! I took a private loan out for my tuition and was fully aware that a lot of the “extra” classes cost extra, and I planned accordingly. Jackie and June went out of their way to accommodate my schedule and needs as a single mom. Come in and see the school and spa for yourself! You will not be disappointed.

I have NEVER been a student or client at this place. Upon reading all of the responses from owners, et al, it is apparent there are/were juveniles operating this school. Their responses are hideous for a business. Immature and combattive, rather than open to constructive criticism. Their attitudes are narcissistic. Please, tell me they are in no way involved in the daily operations of this business as of now. I am interested in taking classes for MUA, esthetic.

They have helped me blossom because at first I was super shy and scared to do anything and all my instructors pulled me out of my shell and They gave me the confidence in myself that I didn’t know I had. I have been a customer at the Skin & Makeup Institute. I hear often from the students how grateful they are to be going to this school. They always talk about what a great education they are getting. By the way I had the best facial there at 1/4 the price the resort spas charge. (Only $35.00 for 50 minutes of heaven)

All of the negative reviews I have seen are completely accurate when discussing the appalling attitude of the owner. She belittles and disrespects students and employees alike. The rules can change at any given moment because it is her school and she feels she can do as she pleases. I think the owner/owner’s husband’s responses to any negative reviews they recieve on here are pretty telling of the type of people they are. The education was alright but it’s not worth dealing with being treated like garbage.

If you want the best education around then you’ll defiantly want to attend The Skin and Makeup Institute, they have the best set of instructors around who will supply you with everything you need to know about the skin. They are all incredibly kind and intelligent people who want the best for you and do everything they can to adapt to your learning style. They also teach a lot of add on classes/ certificates that other schools don’t offer!

I saw this review on google and it upset me so, I had to respond. I’ve been to the Skin & Makeup Institute and it is one of the highest quality aesthetic schools in the nation. The only thing I can see that was accurate is when she said “The students that do go to this school do end up with a great education”. You pay for what you get, quality costs more. She looks like a disgruntled past employee with a poor attitude. I had to say something!

My daughter bought me a European Facial for mothers day and it was lovely. I had never been to The Skin and Makeup Institute before so this was a first for me. When I walked in I noticed how nice, relaxing, and peaceful it was in there. When I was called into the spa to begin my facial they had such a relaxing environment I practically fell asleep while the spa person worked on my face. I walked out of there feeling like I was floating on clouds. The staff is polite and warm, the place is very clean and professional. I will definitely be going back and recommend them to any ladies out there looking for a spa.

A sibling of mine is a student at the skin & makeup institute & they give the best education in the game! I have never seen someone gain so much knowledge so quickly, & genuinely enjoy going to class & learning. Their spa is open to the public, I’ve had a few treatments there & they have all been FABULOUS! The instructors are very encouraging toward the students & very friendly to clients. It may be a bit pricy (tuition wise) for some people, but the education & skill the students seem to develop is 100% worth it! I highly recommend this school for aspiring estheticians/makeup artists AND new clients looking for inexpensive & quality treatments!

I was interested in a few courses they offered and wanted more information and to tour the school and get a feel for how they teach. I called the school two weeks in a row with no return phone call. I then left a message stating I would be contacting the owners or the corporate office to let them know how they were conducting business. The very next day I received a very rude and snappy email sent from the schools director who said they dont answer to anyone and that if I wanted more information that I had to come in on the days they were open and they would provide that then. VERY rude and NOT ANY WHERE id go to get any type of education. Who ever owns this establishment needs to do a serious clean up at this location.

I had a great experience here getting my brows and lashes done by student Claire! I was treated with nothing but kindness and the services was amazing!

Choosing SMI for my education and training in Aesthetics was a great decision for me. The instructors are genuinely passionate about skin, as well as giving us the tools necessary to make a difference in clients lives. I have developed friendships with caring, authentic people that I know will extend past graduation. The way the program is tailored made it possible for me to be a student by day, and still be an involved parent by night. I am grateful for all that I have learned, and would encourage anyone interested in Aesthetics to give it a try at SMI!

As a recent graduate from The Skin and Makeup Institute, this is by far one of the best schools that I have attended. The instructors are passionate in what they do and what they teach. They work very hard to make sure that their students succeed! SMI offers a lot of different classes such as, Brazilian Waxing, Professional Makeup, Dermablading, etc. A few schools I looked at before attending Skin and Makeup Institute, did not offer add-on classes for my education. At the Skin and Makeup Institute, you learn how to do a microdermabrasion and perform a chemical peel successfully. You get a lot of hands on time to practice everything you learn. The instructors are always around when you need help. They are there for you and your education! This school has a HIGH passing rate for State Boards! They offer THREE practice runs through the whole state board exam to make sure you will be ready when you graduate. Coming from experience, I just took my State Boards and sure enough, I passed! Its all thanks to my instructors who have taught me and helped me through. I highly recommend attending The Skin and Makeup Institute, not because I attended there and I am saying you should, but because I honestly do believe that this is by far the best school to get your education from!

I am a recent graduate from SMI. This place taught me all I know and for that I am grateful. However , this is a private school , therefore Jackie can make rules, add new requirements as she pleases. Jackie and Karen are like teenage girls gossiping about students and lets everyone know everybodys business. I also felt discriminated since I am a Mexican young woman, I would speak to my other classmate in Spanish. Dont talk like that Why do you talk like that She even made a new rule especially for me to sign Any other language other than English is not acceptable. I did not sign that. I bought my wife a european facial from the skin and makeup institute for her birthday. She said she loved it. The staff was warm and friendly, the service was excellent, and the experience made her feel like she was walking on clouds. She came home and told me it was one of the best bday presents I could have given her. Definitely recommend the skin and makeup institute and now i know where ill be getting future gifts for my wife and daughters.

If i could go any lower then one star I would. The first time I walked in a noticed a blond older lady named Jackie who talk down to her staff and acted as if they were stupid. After i witnessed this horrendous attatude she had the audacity to turn to me smile and say how may I help you. As if i was oblivious dident just watch her being disrespectful and rude. She also had a very bad vibe I would never recommend this place to anyone. Also, they payment for a student to doa facial cost more then it should. Very dissatisfied and actually irrated this place still has businesse, its a disgrace to all skin and make up.

I was very interested in one of their courses. I called the school with voicemails left repetively and emailed requesting further information several times. I was contacted once and was told everything would be sent the next day to me by email. Two weeks later with more msgs left and emails sent, I still have not received any information on the course I am very interested in.I question their ability to function as an accredited school with this business operation. I am an individual who has been working in the medical and business field for 20 years looking to add another facet to my career. I strongly recommend the school business operation manager to critically look at their process and make several improvements such as timeliness of response to prospective students/parents of students.I am looking elsewhere for my training as I do not have confidence in the schools staff.
