My father spent a month on the skilled nursing floor after having open heart surgery. I was a regular visitor - almost daily. Every staff member that I came in contact with was pleasant and genuinely cared about my fathers well being. This place goes above and beyond based on my experiences with other similar facilities.

When we moved my mother up here from Arizona and were looking for a retirement community in the East Bay, this was hands down the best. Unlike other facilities that we visited, there was an air of vibrancy the minute that you entered; even people who were using walkers were energetic and engaged. Residents take an active role in running the facility. The food is very good. Not what one would expect in an institution, copious amounts of fresh produce and cooked-from scratch entrees are always available.I like my mothers doctor (onsite) very much, and feel that overall, she has access to excellent health care (a big concern on our part). Before moving to St. Pauls, my mother had been living in a continuing care facility in Prescott, Arizona, that allowed her to isolate herself after my stepfathers death from Alzheimers. In addition, most of her close friends had moved away to be closer to their children.We were concerned when she moved up here that she would continue to isolate herself, despite coming over weekly for family dinner every Sunday. However, in addition to providing regular arts and exercise programming, at St. Pauls the meals and events are designed to encourage socialization - its a community that doesnt allow one to isolate oneself. My mother has made several good friends there over the past three years, and is far more lively and engaged than she was before she moved here.I could not be happier. It is expensive, but if you can afford it, the price is more than worth it - at least it was for us, as I have seen my mother blossom there!

I have relatives living here and am very impressed with the facilities. Very well maintained building with comfortable apartments.Food is very good and the employees are polite and helpful.
